I'm having a hard time believing Thanksgiving is next week. It's my favorite holiday and this year has just melted before my eyes! I'm a little sad about it this year though. DH ordered some food from his work's buffet so we don't have to cook except a few dishes they don't offer. We went this route because he has to work from 2p-2a on thanksgiving so we'll be eating "dinner" at noon, then it's just me and the kitty for the rest of the holiday.
@babyroma I hope you find some hygge to get yourself all cozied in celebration. Taking it easy can be an art!
I keep saying I'm going to do fancy things for our Thanksgiving potluck at my sister's this year, but as it's coming up I'm thinking more and more that premade food from Whole Foods dumped into a casserole dish will suffice... Of course I'll spring for the fancy pumpkin pie, but past me who thought she was baking must have been out of her mind LOL
@babyroma Thanksgiving is my favorite as well, and I have to work 0700-1500 this year ☹️ My family does the big event at lunch, then sit around playing games and stuff, then casually eat leftovers for dinner. So I have to miss the main event.
We alternate Thanksgiving every year because our families live 3.5 hours apart. It’s our year to go to my husband’s family which I am never excited about. After a few hours everyone goes home, and I miss shopping with my sister.
I also needed to share this gem. My almost five year old daughter just came into my room and said, “will you go pause my movie so I can go poop? I’m just asking because it might take a long time.” 😂
We have hosted Thanksgiving for the last few years. Luckily my dad smokes the turkey and brings it over. I went shopping for all of the other stuff yesterday, looked at it all sitting on my counter and wondered what the heck I was thinking. I hope I have the same motivation I had when making that shopping list when it comes times to cook it all. Standing on my feet for too long is definitely getting harder and I know I'm gonna be dead tired by the end of the day.
I’m almost in my 3rd trimester and still can’t believe I’m pregnant. It was a pleasant surprise. I was so happy when I found out, but I am starting to get so overwhelmed. Thanksgiving being next week has increased my anxiety because the holidays were the next hurdle to get through before the baby arrives. DD2 was born at 37 weeks so I’m thinking that it’s possible that I only have 2.5ish months to go. And I can’t even get my two year old to stay in bed at night. Ahhhh
okay. So I'm acknowledging that this is probably better suited for the question thread, but there's a really great conversation happening there about delivery room guests that I don't want to detract from. And @doodleoodle you gave me an in with your two year old.
So we'll be transitioning my toddler into a "big girl bed" (she's two and 4 months) and I have no idea what to expect. Has anyone else made the transition out of crib? I'm guessing it's going to be an ongoing battle to keep her in the bed, but I have no idea what to expect. My feeling was that it's better to transition her now so that she doesn't feel like #2 kicked her out of the nursery. But now I'm feeling anxiety! Any advice from STMs+ is greatly appreciated!
@lanie1000 DD1 never got out of her toddler bed. It never occurred to her. DD2 won’t stay in it and she’s been in it for months. The biggest piece of advice I have to give is to let her pick out new sheets and get her excited about it and then keep your routine the same. If she gets out of bed walk her back, tuck her in, give no real extra attention. My husband started singing to DD2 every time she got out of bed and now she won’t stop. Godspeed to you 😂
We hosted Thanksgiving last year and we are hosting again this year. It’s just us, my parents, and brother. They all play with DD while H and I make all the food. It’s still easier than traveling, DD is a horrible sleeper anywhere else. Also feeling the crunch time to prep for baby because the holidays are going to fly by and then it will be 2020!
@lanie1000, I don’t have any advice since DD is 2 years 5 months and we are “crib for life” around here. We bought a 2nd crib for baby just so that we don’t have to force DD out of hers (and hers converts to toddler bed). I have heard that you should completely baby proof the room and treat the whole room as the crib. Meaning your kid can sleep anywhere in the room, don’t worry if they end up sleeping on the floor, they’re fine. Also, some people put a baby gate in the doorway or child proof door handle on the inside to prevent their kid from leaving the room.
@doodleoodle my last five babies all cane at 38 weeks. That’s only 11 weeks from now and seems like no time at all. I am getting so excited. The holidays were basically the last hurdle I had in my head and then we wait for baby. I can’t believed we are getting so close.
@lanie1000 when we transitioned DS1, he was a little over two. We had to put a door handle cover on the inside of his room so that he wouldn’t get out. But he was happy to have a big boy bed.
@lanie1000 - I echo what @doodleoodle said. when we transitioned my daughter to a toddler and then a big girl bed (we wanted to use the toddler mattress for the crib) we made it a HUGE deal about how now she is a big girl, took her to Kohls and let her pick out her new big girl sheets, and it NEVER occurred to her that she could leave the bed until we told her to. She also has a ton of fun pillows and can keep lots of friends in her bed (twin size). The few times she tried because she didn't want to go to bed, I told her unless she gets in bed she does not get a song and I was going to leave her in her dark room alone. I know that sounds harsh. She can finally just reach the door and open it (she is short but will be 3 in a few weeks, our doorknobs are old and small and hard to turn) and can't turn the light on so that all helps. I was glad we did it over the summer so when we put the crib together in the nursery there was no jealousy. She did say that used to be my bed, but she loves her big girl bed.
It seems like every time I buy something for the nursery I get something for her room so she loves her room more. So far she has frozen decals everywhere and a new picture that says "Be Yourself, Unless You Can Be a Mermaid, Then Be a Mermaid". She loves mermaids haha.

@lanie26 it has still never occurred to my 3 year old to get out of bed on his own yet. He was only 19 months when ds2 was born so we bought a second crib. Both convert into a full size bed frame. We switched him to the toddler bed around 2.5 after we potty trained. He had seen my friends daughters toddler bed and had started asking for a big bed like her or I might have kept him in even longer lol ds2 is wild and I’m surprised he has t climbed out of the crib yet- probably bc he ends up in our bed most nights but I know there is no chance he will stay in his toddler bed when we make that transition. We’re buying this baby a crib but using ds1s mattress and giving him the full mattress in the guest room.
Argh...I'm wondering if I'm going to have to redo my 3 hour GTT. Yesterday the dr said it seemed like they didn't process the results correctly. But I don't think they did them right in the first place, which let her know in the follow up to that email. They didn't take a fasted blood sample first and I ended up drinking 2 of the drinks. I was so frazzled that day (huge deadline at work, missed the actual appointment with the doctor, among other things going on) that I didn't speak up to say hey I don't think this is right. Partially I guess because I assumed they knew what they were doing and I couldn't remember exactly how the 1st 3 hour test went back in July. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from the doctor with an update.
My co-worker is going on week 3 of clearing her throat constantly. She still has a cold but damn, today is bad, it is every 30 freaking seconds. I can hear her eating some drops. Girl, what you need is MUCINEX to get this all out. Sometimes she will even chock on her own mucus. I am ready to claw my eyes out. I can tell other people are bothered too. In other news, I tested my cat's blood glucose last Saturday. It was at 593 4 hours after his insulin shot a week ago. Last Saturday, it was at 267. The vet wants it under 300. I was so freaking happy. It seems like his body is finally responding to the insulin.

@rikiteacup I've been thinking of you this week because my coworker has been sniffling every 20-30 seconds. I want to scream at him to blow his nose/strangle him but instead I've been attempting to drown it out with Spotify...
Thank you so much for all of your tips and experiences. I'm hoping she'll follow in some of your kids' footsteps and stay in bed until we come get her. But I'll plan to have a baby gate in front of her door. She loves opening doors and turning lights on and off so I'm sure we'll have our hands full!
Thanks ladies. I guess the silver lining is she said the last 3 readings were in normal ranges. It was just the fasted that was weirdly high...which as I mentioned, they didnt take..
My random for this week is that I wish people would stop telling me how small I am or how I don't look 7 months pregnant. I am sure it is very well-intentioned, but it has the opposite effect to what was intended and makes me feel extra huge since I am extra aware these days about the extra weight. Not even in a super self-conscious way... I have just gained quite a bit of weight and do look 7 months pregnant and very round.
I was talking to one of my girlfriends about this recently and felt rather vindicated when she told me that she thinks the only appropriate size-related remark is "you look so good!"
@mandk1233 I hate when people tell me I don’t look pregnant or I look small. It defeats how proud I am of this bump!! I agree with your friend, and I think most pregnant women would too.

@ibabyloveb87 exactly! Also it seems to be the people I don't see often that do it (such as my dentist yesterday). One of those, "if you think this is small, you obviously don't remember how small I am usually because trust me this is all baby these days* things.
@mandk1233, With my first pregnancy everyone told me how small it was it made me so paranoid that baby wasn’t growing well. So much so that after a few minutes of skin to skin contact when she was born I asked for her to be weighed because I need to know how big she was. She was totally fine.
This time around I am bigger earlier and I have heard those comments too 🙄
@mandk1233 I had people saying “oh you look so small though!” Which just seems fake to me because I’ve gained 40lbs and I’m not small, I’ve got an almost full sized bump at this point. But then I get the “wow you’ve doubled in size since I last saw you!” which doesn’t make me feel better either 😂 I agree that “you look great” or just NOTHING about my size/shape is the only appropriate comment.
@mandk1233 haha with my first pregnancy I got the "oh you can't even tell from behind" and small jabs, this time it's like WHOA you really ARE pregnant so agree the best thing for anyone to say is wow you look beautiful haha.
I had my GD test this morning and had a really hard time keeping that drink down. I felt dizzy and just YUCK. But the GOOD NEWS is that the baby was head down today. As a breech mom for #1 I am soooo happy. I am trying to keep proper posture and will keep doing my exercises so I hope she stays that way! I'm glad it's nothing wrong with my uterus. I felt her flip over last night after doing inversions. I know she's still small enough to flip back. I've noticed that my belly rests on my legs now when I sit (SO BIG!!! I don't remembering this happening ever with #1) so maybe she is staying where it is warm.
BFF who is 32 weeks with #2 told me that her baby is still breech and I sent her to spinningbabies, I hope she can turn her baby too.

@mandk1233 I heard one woman say that a lady told her “you are carrying beautifully!” and that made her feel good. I thought that was a nice comment to use!
