As if we didn't already have enough baby-related excitement today, my H was just able to feel the baby move for the first time. He had the biggest grin on his face! Cue my heart exploding with all the feels! 💖💖💖
@PenelopeSnuz77 Fun fact! Humans have evolved to birth babies that resemble the father. We obviously know who the mother is - remove surrogacy and egg donation from this equation - but a father, traditionally, could never know for sure. When a baby is born looking like the father, there is a decreased chance of infanticide, because the male is less likely to kill offspring that resembles him. It improves father bonding as well. This isn't to say the baby won't eventually resemble the mother, but it typically (i.e. not always) will resemble the father in those first few days/weeks.
I learned about this in my anthropology courses in college and always found it fascinating!
@meagan-t I’ve heard that as well! but tbh, as much as MiL tries to convince me they looked “just like him!,” both boys were my spitting image as a newborn 😂

same as mine- she was already whipping out my husband's baby book to "show me"

i was/am secretly glad that my kids mostly favor me because my H was a fugly child 🤣. He didn’t grow into his features until college).

I have a whole list of US
junk foods that I pay through the nose for in order to indulge in them
over here. (It doesn't help that my research institute tells us how bad
sugar and processed foods are for your brain, your heart, and your gut
on the regular....). Anyway. I've found German amazon
is a very good source for cheetos, cheezits, twizzlers and goldfish, but
sorely lacking in acceptably priced lucky charms and chewy gobstoppers.
Enter
ebay. I scored 10 packs of chewy gobstopper goodness for like 15$, and
ebay gave me 5$ back so I am firmly in "OMG almost StopnShop pricing"
heaven.
DHL just told me they dropped the package off behind our trash cans and I'm suddenly in a huge hurry to get home NOW.

DD1 looked just like me as a baby, DD2 was 100% like FIL (made for kind of awkward nursing sessions in the first two days, but I got over it).

My DD looks just like hubby, always has (though sometimes she smirks like my mom use to). My MIL always compares her and her father. Sometimes I feel like I have to remind her that he didn't birth her. I'm apart of her DNA too ya know! I like to tell her about the times DD looked like someone from my family and watch her reaction lol.
@prpl11butterfly Your DS sounds like the sweetest little guy! Between this "forever" comment and never wanting to see his mama sad... eeep! So cute.
@obsessedwithoranges So very sorry about all the stressful news you've received. Praying for you hard, lady. And really hope you get some concrete results asap.
*Cue special snowflake intro music* Based on the last U/S I think that this baby has my jaw and my (unfortunate) large forehead. I like to think that Rihanna made five-heads fashionable though.
My mom had surgery yesterday to remove her gallbladder (pretty bad gallstones). While they were in there, they checked out a spot on her kidney that had showed up in the CT scan. Turned out it was cancer, so they removed her kidney as well. She shouldn't need any after care for the cancer. It hadn't spread or metastasized anywhere.
I just got off the phone with her. She's pretty hopped up on medication but I could tell he was struggling with the kidney issue. Bless her, she kept telling me not to worry about her and was sobbing and reassuring me she'd be down for DS's birthday in June.
She's doing fine. Recovery is going as expected. They will likely keep her another night to help her manage her pain.
This all makes me think of my grandmother who died in Feb. My grandmother had the same kind of "cancer streak". They'd basically find her cancer by accident and remove it. And ironically enough, the 5+ cancers she had weren't what killed her.

thank you everyone for the reassurance and the answers to my movement question - and I apologize in advance for not tagging all of you but I struggle with the Bump app I can't even begin to explain how grateful I feel to have this board right now! I was worried about movement because the baby has always been super active on ultrasound, my placenta is not anterior and is actually low-lying and I am also a small person (all factors that I thought would mean I'd feel the baby sooner)... but it seems like it does run the gamut from now until 20 weeks so I'll try to relax. PGAL brain is hard, y'all!
@kindbytealikat@jan101757 so glad to know there are others I can talk about potential IUGR with. My dr said that the two blood test coming back elevated AFP are not false positives and I definitely do have elevated AFP. Since the u/s did not show any neural tube defects it is categorized as unexplained elevated AFP and we'll be doing growth scans/ doppler checks as I get further into my pregnancy.
@galentine what a lovely and emotional day for you and your DH!
@nachellebeck13, sorry to hear about your mom, but how lucky that they found the cancer by accident and could nip it in the bud! I hope she has a swift recovery ❤
@nachellebeck13 so sorry your mom and you are going through this. It's a relief they found it and it hadn't spread, but I know the worry that any kind of cancer can cause.
Natera has me completely confused. I got an email that my estimate was ready, but when I go to look, all it says is I’m all set to pay through some company that is not my insurance company. I’m super confused
@galentine the fact you said this correctly makes me like you even more!!
@nachellebeck13 I’m so glad they were able to find this SO soon and take care of it. Sending good vibes for quick healing and never hearing the “C word” again!
@galentine Oh that's a good one! My SIL says that all the time. There's also "take it for granite", "it's a mute point", or "I could care less." All so cringe-worthy!
ETA whoops I see @marbellie got one of those already!
Kind of along the same lines: I had a former boss at my last job who could not distinguish between "lose" and "loose." This man was a Senior Vice President and would send emails saying "If we don't take care of this we are going to loose this customer. We can't afford to loose this customer!" I used to crack up every time it happened.
@jenferlee82, I always crack up at lose/loose too. Lose is frequently used in serious situations (losing a customer, losing a person to death) and it makes me laugh inappropriately when loose is used incorrectly in a serious context!
We have a small break room at work that is adjacent to (or "before," if you will) a larger meeting room. The small break room is known as the anteroom (ante being the prefix meaning before). SO MANY PEOPLE at work send emails like, "There are cookies in the anti room!" How can a room be anti room? That doesn't even make sense. I crack up every time!
Slightly different, but similar topic, this is my favorite friends word mixup of all time (I am super sad there's not an actual gif of this out there!!)

Stuck in quote box - anti room is HILARIOUS! "You know, the room that isn't a room - the anti room!" I legitimately laughed out loud reading that.
