Had oral surgery this morning. I'm not looking forward to the numbness wearing off. I had an impacted wisdom tooth that was starting to cause problems and didn't want to risk infection.
I am happy I did it how rather than after. I can’t imagine coming home to a newborn and two kids on summer break like this.
You know your sciatica and RLP have gotten bad when you need to check on the bees and your suit is upstairs so you sit and ponder which is worse, getting stung by bees or walking up the stairs...
In case anyone was wondering, I only got stung once. I'm calling it a win.
Wife. Boy mom x6. Expecting #7. Wannabe homesteader. , 💙💙💙💙💙💙
I just went to grab lunch. It was 0.25 mi from my office. I planned on eating it at my desk. By the time I got there, I was too tired to walk back and had to eat at the restaurant.
I think the nesting bug is starting to set in. I'm about to go on a cleaning rampage while the kids are sleeping. Has anyone thought about big brother/sister gifts for the hospital?? I spent too much the last time and don't want to do that again but I do want to get a little something for my boys from baby! Anything anyone is planning?!
Guys. My 4 yo old is acting horribly. Won’t cooperate with anything and it’s so out of character. I think it’s a mixture of baby anxiety and me being busy at work. But I can’t figure out how to make it better. It’s so awful....
and also +1 to all of this. I used the toddler potty to paint my toes and that helped. And I’d totally take my chances with the bees at this point.
@ketomommy no judgement, that's a great idea!! I've been trying to think of things to entertain my two while I'm attending to baby also!
@Happyin14 can you try a special outing with just you and her? Even going to the park or a little craft at home where she has your undivided attention? Sorry you're dealing with that, I know it can be so draining!
@ccmama3 I haven’t bought anything yet but I still remember getting a simple doll from my mom when my youngest sister was born (I would have been 3.5) and thinking it was “from the baby” and sleeping with it every night after...I’ll probably do something like that, under $20
Over the weekend I had DD (3.5) choose her gift for the baby which she has been “taking care of” since then. It was a $12 dog stuffed animal so again super small.
I woke up this morning with tears running down my face. I can barely remember the dream I was having but it something with my mom, my sister, police.and my car. I think they were playing a trick on me but wouldn't stop and tell the officer the truth. I was so mad at them. These vivid dreams are no joke.
@foodislove, I *can* reach my toes, but is it comfortable? Lol no. I was thinking of splurging on pedicures for the rest of this pregnancy, because I (and we!) deserve to be comfortable and have nice toenails!
I am a sucker for a pedicure anyway - I could fall asleep in the chair I love them so much! I always plan one right before it’s baby time and call it my ‘delivery room pedicure.’ I’ve gotten compliments in the hospital!
@pizzaplz@foodislove I had a pedi two weeks ago for my maternity shoot and I plan on getting two more this pregnancy--one right before my baby shower and one right before my CS. About the same cadence I'd need to clip my toenails anyway
@pizzaplz@foodislove pedicures from here on out for the win! I get the shellac and it lasts for WEEKS! The last time I had a pedi it was on my birthday 3/7. No chips or anything! I would highly recommend it! I’m aiming for mid June before I get it done again.
Way to go on only getting stung once @nopegoat! I’ve gotten into the mentality where if something is dropped on the floor, that’s it’s new home.
@ccmama3 What in the world do you get a 17 month old for a gift from baby?! Oh man, I’m so clueless! Needless to say, I haven’t even thought of this!
@ccmama3, @jenniferjoy37, and anyone else looking for gifts for an older sibling, have you ever looked at the website Savvy Auntie? I started using it when my niece was born to get ideas for fun, age-appropriate gifts. They have plenty of great suggestions. Im planning to refer to it for my own kid since i have no idea what kids at any age would want to play with!
@jenniferjoy37 that's about how old DS1 was and I had gotten him a slumberkins, a book, and reusable Melissa and Doug puffy stickers. Maybe something else too... I can't even remember! DS2 ended up in the NICU so it didn't even go as planned as far as giving it to him, and he didn't (still doesn't) care about the slumberkins so it was a fail haha!! This time I'll have an almost 3 year old and 17 month old again. I was thinking one simple thing for each of them but not sure what yet!! @frenchbaby18 oh that's so sweet!! I want to take mine to pick something out for baby too! I think my oldest will love being a part of everything this time around.
@pizzaplz I’m going to have to check out that website! Thanks!
@ccmama3 DD LOVES books, so that may be a good start. She just has SOOOO many of them already. I’m sure you already have so many stuffed animals... could you make them matching shirts and a onesie to wear when baby comes? I’m having a friend from my last BMB make DD and DS a matching outfit for the hospital.
Planning on a pedicure next week with my mom for mother’s day!
@ccmama3 the nesting bug hit hard this weekend! I dropped off 4 bags of donations this morning, and still feel like the house is too cluttered! Trying to remind myself to focus on one task at a time because even though I did a lot yesterday, I pretty much just jumped from thing to thing and don’t know that I actually crossed anything off of my list lol
@asupernovablizzardstorm OMG yes. Mine have been so weird. I haven't managed to remember that many to enough of a degree to put them in the dreams thread, but they have been vivid and weird AF....
Also, pedicures FTW, so many people have mentioned it I didn't tag, sorry. But yes. I also get waxes, which helps with the fact I can no longer see my lady bits or bend over long enough to do a decent job on my legs.
Have any of you traveled solo 30+ weeks pregnant? I'm going to NYC solo in a couple weeks, just for a weekend (thankfully), and I've made some adjustments/plans for safety/sanity already (car service for airport transport, not staying in the heart of the Times Square/other crazy areas), but anyone else have suggestions? I know I probably need to stand up 1-2x on the plane, even though I have a stop both ways so it's 2 2-hr flights each way...
@greeneyedgirl12 - Do you have any compression-wear? Between the flight and the walking you’re sure to do in the trip, you may be glad to have some! I just have a pair of what look like men’s dress socks that are the lightest compression available, and I can tell a HUGE difference when I wear them.
@greeneyedgirl12 I had two standing breaks on my 7-hour flight to Hawaii a couple of weeks back. I think the potty break you will likely need will take care of your 1 or so standing breaks on a 2-hour flight. There probably isn't much more time than that to actually BE standing. I recommend an aisle seat so you don't feel guilty about getting up if you get uncomfortable and just want to stand.
I gave up on trimming my toenails because I couldn't really reach at week 26. I went in before the babymoon. I'll probably go in about once a month from here on out. Once in May, once in June, once in July.
@ketomommy this has been one of the dangers of working from home while pregnant. I keep falling asleep when I don't mean to. My house is just so quiet and then I get tired and boom, I'm out. I just accidentally took a two-hour nap! So then I end up having to work a bit into the evening to catch up on my two hour nap time. Not that I actually did anything for work today. I miss motivation a little teeny bit. I have 3 huge projects I'm working on and I didn't touch any of them today.
Our nesting project right now is doing the tile in the hall bath. We hit a couple of snafus as we were trying to get it done a few weekends ago. We spent this weekend repairing things after that snafu. Now we are back on track and should be able to finish this project in about 3 more work days. Yay! Two more days to lay tile, and one day for grout. I'm not counting the days I'll also take to paint the rest of the room (why do people paint bathrooms with flat paint? I will never know!) and paint the cabinets to go with the new look of the bathroom. I'm excited to see how it will turn out! It's going to be such a big upgrade to this house when it is finished. When we bought the house, we had three 3/4 baths. Two with standing showers, and one with just a tub. After this tile work is done, we will have two full baths and the one 3/4. Huge upgrade for the house that will bring us some listing value. And also improve the functionality of the house while we live here (which is hopefully for many, many more years because I love my house).
@happyin14 Been to NYC a bunch, just never solo and/or pregnant. I have a friend due like 6 weeks ahead of me and it’s her shower. So that and seeing Dear Evan Hansen and eating all the seafood and better food than I can get and probably shopping, much to DH’s dismay.
@greeneyedgirl12 - DH and I saw DEH in the fall! It's soooooo good! I'm jealous that you get the super-young Evan; I think he is awesome! We had Taylor...who was not.
@greeneyedgirl12 +1 to compression socks - at least for the airplane!
I was in NYC during the 2nd tri on my own and it was one of my favorite trips there - mainly because I planned lots of breaks in my days for resting at fun places instead of constantly moving and doing things! Also I had soooo much fun shopping for baby stuff there because they have lots of great flagship stores! I got an adorable aiden and anais NYC taxi cab printed muslin sleep sack that I’m very excited about!
I guess I’m always a big city mom so very used to the usual annoyances (no seats on public transportation, people everywhere...). Once you just accept them they become less annoying
Here's a question... I finally got around to getting on my practice's website to see the Dr who will be doing my surgery (it's a large practice). She finished her residency last year. Maybe this shouldn't bother me, and I know they all have to start somewhere... but I had 0 anxiety about a 3rd C-section until I realized I might be like the 4th one she's ever done. (slight exaggeration, I'm sure)
Is it ridiculous to worry? Is it rude to ask how many she's done?
@greeneyedgirl12 On the compression sock topic - I bought these for my last flight, and I also wore them last weekend when I noticed a little swelling in my feet, and they helped. I also liked that I could still wear sandals with them since it's getting warm out. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0138IS4CG/
@jennm0724 We're going tonight! A friend recommended I download an app called RunPee that will indicate a non-vital part of the movie is about to start so I can run without missing an important part. Also gives you a synopsis of what you are missing while you are on the toilet!
You gals know I'm a professional working full time and I'm earning a second grad degree in the evenings.
Last night we were in class working on our final presentations, and a man in my cohort asked whether my presentation was ready to go. I replied that one line of my code was giving me an error but I'd figure it out this week. His response was, "Well you can always just play the pregnancy card."
Excuse me, What?
I shook my head in disgust at him but was speechless in the moment. He is working full time, has a stay at home spouse, and two children. Here I am working with a professional spouse working full time, about to have my 4th baby. I am not playing any "cards." In fact, I would argue I am doing more while exhausted/nauseous and taking zero short cuts without a spouse at home managing my household. I am just over the sexism, ladies. Fuck it all.
Oh man, @Cbeanz that would royally PISS ME OFF! I hate how professional guys with a wife at home think they have it just as rough as a professional woman. I am all for equality among the genders, but there are certain things that are fundamentally different, such as bearing children. Now, in contrast to your very feminist post...
You all know I'm a lawyer. I'm in litigation which means I do a lot of fighting for a living. Pregnancy and litigation are not a good combo. I get super fired up over the other side's argument and take their tearing apart my argument very poorly. It's an emotional roller coaster between calling opposing counsel fucking morons (not to their faces...yet...) and fighting back tears because, surely I'm going to lose... Sometimes I'm SO tempted to pull the pregnancy card in hopes of getting a little sympathy.

OB is one of, but not nearly the only ((M.D.) DH says it's a lot of the surgical specialties) where you have to practice/do procedures semi-supervised before you can take the practical exam. (https://www.abog.org/specialty-certification/specialty-cert-exam-intro-app-process/specialty-ce-eligibility-requirements).
So, between the two, I wouldn't be too worried.
ETA: and of course, LO just decided it’s the perfect time to repeatedly kick me in the bladder...
