@jenferlee82 physically go out and try carriers before committing. Not all will be a good fit for you. I prefer Tula over others, but H uses an ergo. I loved ring slings with my first, but I didn’t like them at all with my second.

    Excellent advice, thank you!

Oh, and I've found that a little caffeine helps my headaches immensely, so maybe try that in the interim!
I started having a cup of coffee every morning for the last week and I’ve only gotten one headache since I started that, and coffee made it better. Hope it helps others too!
  • @cmbt2 to piggyback offf this, any advice or preference or tips for picking out ring slings? Once Z maxed out weight for the ktan I was pretty exclusive with my lillebaby carrier but I always wanted to look into a ring sling, especially when they were more mobile and just needed carried part time. I was overwhelmed pretty quickly from my sewing group about safety requirements though and gave up the search.

I wouldn’t do stretchy material- definitely go wrap conversions. See if you can get a bamboo or similar blend of material. The straight up cotton (I think it’s cotton; whatever the standard material is) wraps are really, really warm. All manufacturers should tell you what length to get based on your size. I preferred those with stitching that could be spread vs pleated on the rings.

Etsy has a ton of wrap conversions, at least, the last time I looked. There’s also ones that aren’t conversions, just fabric, that are better for tiny babies. Whatever you chose, make sure they use safety certified rings and double/triple stitching on the rings

  • So I talked to my Dr at my appointment and she's gonna refer me to the PT that specializes in pelvic issues but she thinks I should wait til after the baby comes to do it. But she set up a referral so hopefully that helps! I found the weights, gonna buy them this weekend! Also, has anyone else had the numb hands/fingers? She told me to get braces like for carpal tunnel and wear them at bedtime. Any other suggestions?? Also for the baby wearing, I did t do it much with either baby, but I had a moby that was good for itty bitty for me and then an evenflo I loved! We use our strollers alot here. Especially with 2 mobile fast toddlers😂 I want a lillebaby this time too! I want to try to wear this one and strap my other two in my Jeep side by side😂😂

@andromedacorrine2 compression gloves. Braces did nothing for me other than irritate me. The gloves forced out the water that was causing the swelling for carpel tunnel. I wore them throughout the day outside of bathroom and eating Times. And yes, both times (and now), it’s started with numb feelings in my hands. The bright side is, if it’s pregnancy swelling induced, it should subside a few weeks after birth once the water retention subsides.

It’s already starting in my dominant hand this time around, but I’m also dealing with swelling in my legs, so not surprised this is following suit.

dont be surprised if you’re looking at tarsal tunnel down the road, too. I had that both times as well (knee high compression socks work wonders for the pain)

Oh thank goodness I'm not alone. I never had this with either baby but I also weigh quite a bit more now and I have noticed myself swelling early on which I never swelled with either baby before. It had me scared cause I was waking up in the middle of the night with both hands numb. I do sleep with my arms under my head so I've tried to stop that to help. It takes forever to get my fingers awake!! And my hands twitch, they always have and now that's worse too! My right thumb twitches so bad and sometimes fixates into the palm of my hand 😔 aye it's infuriating!!!

Nope, not alone! It’s a lesser discussed pregnancy symptom but is totally a thing. With DS1, it didn’t start until 36/37w. With DS2, it was right around the 2nd tri/3rd tri switch. I had a workmate who recognized my gloves for what they were and figured out why. He told me his wife had it with their first but not the rest.

I retain a lot of water during pregnancy. I also like salt a lot, so that doesn’t help matters. The water retention is generally what causes carpel tunnel during pregnancy*. The compression gloves force out that water to reduce swelling.

I also do a lot of pencil/pen holding and needle holding (cross stitch) which I find can exasperate the problem when it’s realt bad.

Unfortunately, this falls into the “must deal with it” category and the “it may worse before better” category, but there’s things that can help to mitigate the pain.

*i only speak to what I know about pregnancy induced carpel tunnel. I know nothing about what causes it outside of pregnancy

  • Questions: Any STM+ have recommendations for double strollers? DD will be 2 when baby arrives.

We scored the Uppababy Vista on CL when I was pregnant with DD2. DD1 was 3.5 when DD2 was born and loved the stroller (a bit too much - at some point it's like get out kid, you can walk just fine). We added the board and am already looking forward to using it again (our go-to stroller right now is the bob because by now DD1 is 5.5 so we REALLY don't need to be pushing her around). Since we use public transportation a lot I didn't want a side by side stroller and the Vista has held up amazingly well.

@greenbean-2 We have the Baby Jogger City Select double... it's like pushing a train! I wanted a tandem double stroller initially, b/c I thought the side by side was unrealistic to take to stores, the mall, restaurants, etc, but honestly, I rarely take our double to public places unless DH is going to be there to push and steer it. We mostly use it around the neighborhood now. DS1 had just turned two when DS2 was born. Their weight distribution just made it hard for me. But we also got the skateboard glider/attachment, which DS1 still loves. If I had to do it over again, I would get the Phil&Ted's double, with the seat on the bottom for the older child to hop in and out of.

We had the Phil+Ted dot for awhile, albeit before DD2 was born, also because city living and compactness and stuff. I can only speak for the dot, but I thought it was a bit bare bones (sunshade very small, not good recline options, etc). The other models look a lot more thought out. (Especially since ours was from 2014 and I'm sure they've tweaked their stuff since then).

@nnaelilak Happy to know I'm not the only one, though I wish you happiness/contentment, too. Let me contradict myself slightly here... but two boys is AWESOME!!! They are the perfect little playmate set. It's the loss of a wish that will never be (most likely) that I am struggling with. But two little bestie brothers is wonderful. I'm kind of wishing I had been satisfied with just my two, b/c now I feel like I'm going to disrupt what they have goin' on. Anyway, if that helps at all... <3
Speaking as someone who has two girls and was hoping for a third so had a bit of boy blues herself, I get it. I'm coming around to the idea of a boy and getting more enthusiastic with every day. All feelings  are valid and as soon as the bigger kids see the baby I'm sure I won't be able to imagine it any other way <3

  • @cmbt2 thank you so much!! It's been crazy. I have noticed I have an up take in salt so I'll have to cut that out!!! I'm gonna get some gloves this week and it helps I'm home four days a week cause then I can wear them around the house! Everything is very different this time round 😂

I give up on quoting. @andromedacorrine2 these are the gloves I have. I tried copper ones and they didn’t help at all and fell apart easily. These ones still look new despite washing every other week https://www.amazon.com/Compression-Arthritis-Arthritic-Rheumatoid-Osteoarthritis/dp/B000N4G8IQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=compression+gloves&qid=1555599361&s=gateway&sr=8-6

  • @cmbt2 I have an awful time with the quoting thing too. But then I have to scroll so far to figure out who I'm tagging😂😂 and thank you so much, this is so helpful! I just want my hands to stop being numb. I'm an artist so I paint and draw a lot and I love to write so I type and hand write. Plus I work factory so I'm sure I have carpal tunnel these days 😔😔😔 this extra water weight isn't helping any!
