I didn’t sleep well last night and feel completely useless today. Thankfully it’s my day off, but I really want to be getting our room ready. I’m awful at relaxing and it’s making me anxious, but I also know I can’t move any of our stuff myself. I feel like I need comfort food.
Because of our move and my husband's job transition, I'll be done working at the end of the week (and the chances of finding a job now that will let me take leave in two months is VERY slim) SO I'm going to basically be home alone all day everyday in a new city where I don't know anyone starting next week until the LO is here. Anyone have suggestions of productive and inexpensive ways to pass the time? I do realize I'm lucky to not have to work up til I deliver, I just don't want to end up being bored and alone.
@frenchfrymama@stephanielyn1991: Volunteer for a cause you love? See if you can take or audit a short class at a local JC or arts center? What are your hobbies/interests?
@frenchfrymama are there any hobbies or crafts you like to do or used to do? Also research moms groups in your new town so you have a group to do stuff with when baby comes. And finally, decorating and organizing your new home should occupy some of your time
@frenchfrymama@stefanielyn1991 just a few suggestions: visit local centers/places that are free like the library, find local farmers markets, explore mommy groups at local hospitals/churches/etc, check local community college for free/low cost classes, find other things to do from local coffee shop flyers, if you’re religious start attending a small group study. If you want to learn to knit or crochet a lot of times local yarn shops will have classes during the day. I’m jealous of all that free time lol
@frenchfrymama@stefanielyn1991 besides community college, there’s often adult/continuing education through the school district - think whoever would be offering ESL or GED classes. I really want to take Italian classes at $10/class two towns over but can’t get the time to.
Musically inclined? Check your religious home for choirs/instrument groups. Check for local choruses or community bands. Ask to attend a practice.
Athletic or gonna try to be when your babe comes? Try out dance/yoga/Pilates studios with childcare or mama and me classes. (See if they offer intro pricing.) Explore the YMCA. Find out if there’s a stroller strides group in town. Ask the bike/running/whatever shop if they recommend certain routes, or have group meet ups. Walk the local weekly 5K route!
Start taking notes on what seems baby and toddler friendly: drive through coffee, cafes with stroller friendly aisles, storytimes, farmstands with animals, nature centers, aquariums, kid museums, museums in general that have kid exhibits, pools, music classes, where there are and aren’t sidewalks, state and local parks, sports fields to run around in, good photo op locations for family photos, etc. Check the local tourism office or chamber of commerce for ideas.
I’m trying to make a point of going out daily with DD for my Airbnb accounts but it’s useful for me just to know where I can take DD when we need to escape the house.
People who are 8 months pregnant are not meant to be hunched over all day applying lashes. My back and neck hurt so bad. I spent the last two days getting certified in lash extensions. Almost every time I bent forward to apply the lashes to a client the baby jabbed me in my ribs. I honestly need to call it quits for awhile on everything and just relax until April, but it’s so hard here’s a before and after of my second set on a person. I definitely need more practice which is going to irritate this baby even more
Well plumber came out today (second time in 2 weeks). Found a leak in a pipe, which has also been leaking under our house. We called insurance and made a claim. Now have to have a gazillion people out to determine if subflooring is damaged, if insurance will cover it, etc etc. And I can’t use my shower between now and when it gets fixed. And depending on the state of the flooring we will possibly be out of our bedroom as well if there’s actual damage. Oh, and my husband leaves town for the weekend on Thursday. Ughhhhh. I know realistically that these are total first world problems and we have another bathroom and even a guest bedroom where we can sleep if we need to be out of our bedroom. But this blows.
@ysotte your post is as scattered (clean! Relax! Comfort food!) as my brain is today. I hope you got some of those things accomplished. As for me, I’m ready for the day to end.
@ysotte, I've been hitting the comfort food hard lately and I know I should cut back but... ugh. Right there with you on feeling exhausted and awful, and I'm the same way with being unable to relax if things need to be done.
@professormama, that's still stressful, first world problems or not! I hope the rest of the week goes smoothly, take an hour to have a bubble bath or read a book and chill out before your hubby leaves for the weekend?
I don't remember being this uncomfortable with 7 weeks left to go last time around... sigh. I keep vacillating between "holy shiitake, 50 days left, that isn't enough time!" And then "7 weeks?! That's so long, how will I make it?!"
@professormama, I worked up to two days before delivering my first son (and would've worked the day before but it was a weekend, hah). This time, I'm dreading going right up until my due date and half hoping I go early just so I can go on leave early... .
@professormama oh no! It always seems like the worst possible things happen at the worst times! I’d be frustrated too. Hopefully it’s an easy fix and doesn’t become a stressful situation. Fingers crossed for you!
Having ample free time isnt all its cracked up to be. I don't drive so I'm pretty much housebound. I'm not working so I dont have extra money. So it's really just me alone everyday feeling useless. Nothing really sounds interesting so I just sleep alot. I miss working and having a purpose. I am grateful tho to not have to work as most days I feel crappy. Kudos to you ladies working till you pop! On an entirely seperate note im asking for prayers. We just found out my SO's mom has a brain tumor and only has about a year to live if she gets the surgery. It's been an emotional day.
@kangstadt I don’t remember being this miserable last either. I can’t sit comfortably, none of my clothes are comfortable, I’m so done. And I’m planning to work as close to my due date as possible since I’ll make more money working then on leave.

I’m planning to work until I go into labor or I reach my due date. With my first I was pulled out of work almost 4 weeks early and was going out of my mind only 2 weeks later. With DS2 I was on a conference call at home when I started to feel contractions and I had him less than 12 hours later.
With baby #1 I worked until 2 weeks before my edd and went into labor the day after her dd and had her 4 days later. I couldn’t do my job anymore at that point though, I couldn’t walk up the hill to work.
this baby I’m basically a project manager for short paint projects and April is a super busy month for guests so we rarely paint. I’ll answer questions via email and have some paperwork to sort out but I work maybe 1-4 hrs a week. Otherwise I have the house and a toddler so I’ll be busy until labor probably.
@stefanielyn1991 what an awful diagnosis for your MIL. I wish her peace and comfort, and the same for your family as you support and grieve her.
also, the phrases you’re using about your own life sound depressive - please talk to your provider about that. An infant is unlikely to help you feel better if you already feel trapped.
There’s a Sip of (my town) event this week and I am so grumpy about it. Not only do I want to go to the art museum and sample all the wines/beers/specialty sodas, the appetizers that the restaurants are bringing look amaaaaaazing. I can’t really justify $50 for apps though.
@stefanielyn1991, I'm so sorry to hear that. Sending healing thoughts your way as you guys navigate this difficult time. I also second what @lyse01 said, you should talk to your provider about how you're feeling since it could be a warning sign of PPD as well.
@lyse01 , if we weren't broke, I would totally justify $50 for food to myself somehow, haha. But I also spend way too much money in the grocery store every week.
Sorry I've been MIA, yesterday I had off so I don't think to get online as much when I'm sitting at work (maybe I should work more when I'm at work....eh.) So we are supposed to get more snow tonight, which means a probable snow day tomorrow. I will have DD (2.5 years old) and I will need to entertain her most of the day. What are some easy things to do at home that I won't have to go out and buy anything tonight? She's not great at entertaining herself for long periods of time but she did play with her babies alone for about 30 minutes yesterday, which is a huge win for me.
@harveyisaboysname I did a lash course a few years ago but I can’t imagine doing it while full of a baby! I think your lashes look better than my first sets though! It’s such a great home business - good luck!
Speaking of, I plan on being vain and getting lash extensions, my hair highlighted, and a gel nail polish manicure before baby comes because there are going to be so many pictures and I don’t want to hate every one of them....
@professormama I totally feel you on 1st world problems. We were without a dishwasher for about two weeks while we were waiting on parts and repair. I had to resist the urge to use disposable everything. Fingers crossed your shower solution comes soon. @stefanielyn1991 thoughts and prayers for your SO's mom. I know this has to be such a difficult time for your family.
+1 for the work as long as possible group. I get no paid time off (aside from the two weeks vacation pay I have saved up), so I will be teaching right up til my first contraction.
Hi All, been MIA since Friday since I had the day off yesterday.
Feeling overwhelmed today, lots of work stuff to do, not sleeping. I didn't take anything on Friday and Saturday to sleep and work up AT LEAST 10 times each night. Last night I took unisom only woke 5 times but only have 5% deep sleep (according to fitbit)
But good news is we are having a heat wave and we went to the water park this weekend and it was so much fun. Got everything in the nursery set up and furniture secured.

@stephanielyn1991: That is such hard news. Prayers for your SO's mother and for your family! And I hope you can find a daily schedule that works for you right now. It sounds like you're being hit with a lot.
@professormama: That sounds unfun! Also, regarding first world problems, didn't we decide vis-a-vis complaining that pregnancy is uncomfortable that the whole point of this forum is that it's a space where we can be honest about our feelings without needing to consider a universal audience? So definitely no apologies necessary. I doubt any of us think you are not taking a broad view of life!
My poor DH has been getting bit hundreds of times in bed over the past week or so (and I've been bit ZERO, what? but I'll take it). We really don't think it's bed bugs for a variety of reasons, but it's been driving us nuts so we've took the standard precautions this weekend just in case. It's been a lot of work to move/clean/bag/spray everything, but it seems to have solved the problem right away. It's crazy to think, though, that by the time we unbag our bedroom rug it will have a bassinet on it!
In other news, my funding for this semester FINALLY got released! It should be here in 2-3 days, just in time for me to not panic irrationally and cancel DH's fancy birthday dinner. We do okay on the balance, but the money is almost 3 months late and we were starting to have cashflow issues, so it's a big relief. I think I'm going to get In-N-Out after I pick up DD to celebrate!
Back at work after an entire week off, 3 hours in and already wishing for maternity leave. I don't remember being this miserable with number 1 either. Last night was the first night that I had extreme trouble sleeping. I was up 3 times for heartburn, plus I was extremely hot and couldn't get comfortable all night. Nothing helped. 7 more weeks feels so far away but I know it's going to go so quickly. I am also working all the way up until I go into labor so I'm trying to take everything in stride and not complain too much.
@angelob88 - I was way less miserable with #1. Part of it was that I was just really excited and had plenty of time to rest. This time I am trying to manage a toddler too and it makes it MUCH harder. I am forcing myself to do a lot on the weekends bc I only have 9 weekends left and want to do fun stuff with DD before DD2 comes!

@stefanielyn1991 I am so sorry about your news. I hope you can enjoy time with her and make lots of happy memories.
I'm with the group of being done. I feel like such a wuss and complainer being so sore and almost incompetent so soon but I've totally had it. I have a doctor's appointment today and I've been dealing with this cold from hell for a week, crazy pelvic/SPD pain and now a headache that's been holding for a couple days. I'm thinking at the most another 3 weeks at work then I'll throw in the towel. We have someone coming in for an interview for my position this afternoon and I really hope she's the one and can start ASAP so I can train her and not feel badly about leaving early.
This weekend I busted my butt painting the nursery and getting everything together. H said he wants to put the crib together since I did the girls' cribs and took that away from him, but he doesn't have the same sense of urgency as I do. The room is ready except for the crib and change table still in their boxes. That peeved me off something awful. I know we have time, but I want to cross it off the list and be done with it. And it turned out gorgeous so I have to take pictures for the nursery thread!!!

@stefanielyn1991 I'm so sorry to hear that news. That really, really sucks. Regarding you being at home, do you live in a pedestrian friendly area? If I didn't drive I'd have a hard time where I live now, but in my previous city, I'd walk everywhere. It was kind of my saving grace. I hope you can figure something out to perk yourself up!
This is very random: I was just in the break room at work and overheard a girl talking about how her sister just gave birth this past weekend at 33 weeks along. So I asked her about it, and she said her sister didn't even know she was pregnant!!! I've seen it on tv shows but never heard about it in real life. So f'n wild......
Sorry I went MIA on you ladies! Noah and I are doing great! I finally posted my birth story on the announcement thread. I haven’t had the chance to write it out until now. But, I’m currently chilling in the NICU with a healthy baby on my chest so felt like it was the perfect time. It felt good to get it all out! Sorry I kept y’all waiting. 💙
@kyashley1227 I'm glad Noah is doing so well! It's amazing he is already off the ventilator and breathing on his own and great that he is able to have your milk! Congrats on it coming in. :-)
DH and I decided to not have social media once baby is born. We plan on cutting it out entirely to spend time with her and each other. I think it's a great idea but it also will be a big change!
+1 to being done. It definitly wasn’t this hard or exhausting with my first two. With the SPD, Braxton Hicks, and insomnia I’m going to be a zombie before this one gets here. Plus both my kids have sinus infections and of course only want mommy in the middle of the night. And I’m pretty sure DS is no longer going to take naps, which was my saving grace this pregnancy. He’s only 3 and his sister (5.5) still takes naps when not at school
