@cammie0526 Cooked fish. Started in the first tri and lasted till LO was 2 yrs. I just started being okay with eating fish again. I hope it doesn't happen a second time (Weirdly, I could do sushi. Something about the flakiness of cooked fish I think, and the smell.)

All the aversons happened around 8ish weeks and I could only eat rice and beans for a week. Everything else made me want to puke. It dissipated two weeks or so, but it was during thanksgiving.

@eller-2 my understanding is that our babies are still in our pelvis bone area, very protected. Unless you're high risk, you should be fine picking up and holding your LO. Just listen to your body and if it doesn't feel right, give yourself a minute.

@eller-2 I haven't been able to ask officially yet but I've been lifting my 38 lb toddler a ton and carrying him around. People lift way heavier these days at the gym now days if they have already been doing it. DS did accidently kick me in the stomach while on the bed the other day. I think it is just part of being a stm.

@eller-2 Everything I've read about this says pretty much the same thing: that the pumpkin seed inside you is super well protected that it would be super hard for something like that to mess anything up. I TOTALLY understand this sort of fear, though! I don't have LOs, but when I got waxed earlier this month, she pressed on me a bit, so I was freaking out. And no matter what I read about how protected the seed was & how n-o-t-h-i-n-g she had done could have in any way messed anything up, I still was like omgomgomgomg.

@eller-2 I've been assuming that lifting DS now falls into the if you've already been doing it then it's fine to keep doing it exercise guidelines, though I am anxious about hoisting him in and out of his carseat later in pregnancy (he's not always the most cooperative!).

Has anyone found that b6 and unisom make your morning sickness worse instead of better?

My husband has passed a cold to me. Ugh, I'm terrible at being sick when I can have meds let alone when I can't. Anyone have safe home remedies?
And do I need to be freaked out because I'm sick while pregnant?
  • Options
@cheshyre319 A cold won't hurt anything. It depends on symptoms but extra vitamin c can help, hot ginger tea with some honey, raw garlic. I take elderberry syrup too when sick if you have access.

Question for STM/STM+ (or I guess FTM who know someone): has anyone had an experience with the Sneek Peak early sex DNA test? Seems like it could be great considering it’s $79 and claims 98% accuracy.
  • Options
cheshyre319 nothing to be worried about if you have a cold. From my understanding, our immune systems are taking a bit of a hit just by being pregnant. Take care of yourself and take some approved meds if necessary. I love me some netipot this time of year with a regular mucinex (I get congestion more than anything with a cold). Elderberry, like @janat1717 said, is a great little booster.

Thanks, @dolewhipper, @janat1717, @kagesstarshroom and @ternsetc for putting my mind at ease!  @kagesstarshroom, I hear you on the omgomgomgomg reaction. Mostly in the middle of the night, when I seem to be wide awake and overthinking everything (after being so tired all day - yay early pregnancy :))

@cheshyre319, I'm sorry about the cold.  I want to crawl in bed and avoid the world when I have even a small cold in early pregnancy - hard when you're used to medicating those symptoms, and when you're already exhausted and feeling off.

@eller-2 my first two are 15 months apart.  I was carrying my son in his infant car seat through most of the pregnancy and carrying him all the time.  No issues or concerns from my Dr and even if there was, a mom has to do what a mom has to do.  I couldn't expect him to crawl into day care, ya know?  I go by listen to your body.  You will know if you lifted something that was too heavy.

I have a question about boobs. I'm a 34DDD, so pretty big in the chesticle area. Are they going to get even bigger? How do I keep them from flopping all around?? Will they deflate and hang to my waist after I'm done breastfeeding??? Tips/advice from well-endowed ladies are welcome, please!!
  • Options
Thanks, @monkeysmom80.  Hopefully I won't run into "this feels like too much lifting" in everyday life.

@themadcamel, I don't have any great advice, but I started at a similar pre-pregnancy size.  I went up about a size mid-first trimester, and then another size or two by the end of my last pregnancy.  I found the bra strap extenders super handy, because I hate bra shopping, and towards the end I just wore comfy wireless nursing bras (even though they weren't the best looking under clothes).  And actually wore the same the entire time I was breastfeeding/pumping.

My kid decided he was done breastfeeding the same week I got my BFP, so I can't tell you what my new normal would have been, but deflated is a pretty good description of the status quo :/  I am back in my pre-pregnancy size bras, but none of my old favorites fit me well because the boobs definitely sit differently in my case.

I went to the doctor today for what should have been an 8 week ultrasound but they said I was only at 6 weeks.  So now I am trying to figure out the due date & all these due date calculators are still telling me I am 8 weeks on account of my LMP and conception date.  I am so confused now!!  Anyone else run into this issue or have any advise?  I think I am due towards the end of September now which is fine but all this date & week stuff is so overwhelming!  :s
  • Options
@jeepwave, I'm sorry you are dealing with uncertainty/feeling overwhelmed.  Do you typically (or sometimes) have long cycles?  I have always been a week to 3 weeks behind what they would have said based on my LMP, because of long cycles/late ovulation.  Are they having you come back in a week or two to have another ultrasound?
  • Options
@jeepwave do you know when you ovulated, or how long your cycles may average? I have a short cycle (24-25 days) so it's likely my edd isn't correct either.

Don't worry till there's something to worry about :)

@themadcamel I went from 32d, to 34/36 ddd, to a wonderfully floppy pancake 32c. Don't spend too much money in bras, especially if you'll be breastfeeding. I breastfed for a long time and I feel like I have a size bra imaginable. The extenders are awesome! I'm excited for my porn star boobs again.

I asked in my weekly, but figured I may get more responses here.

Anyone use Vitex/ Chasteberry to help get pregnant? If so did you cold turkey stop taking it or wean off? I scared to mess up my progesterone levels if I just cold turkey it. My OB told me to stop taking it, but they also didn't know what it was.
  • Options
@dolewhipper I used to take vitex, but ended up on progesterone meds so I stopped it. I think my naturopath was going to keep me on the vitex but I can’t remember exactly. Is there a naturopath that you can try to get ahold of? They would probably know better than the OB, especially if your OB had never heard of it before.

@themadcamel I went up several sizes, especially after birth with breastfeeding.  After breastfeeding 2 kids, they are not as perky as they used to be but the don't look like old socks hanging.  They also went to pre-baby size.

@eller-2 @dolewhipper thanks for the tip on the bra strap extenders. I will look into those!
@monkeysmom80 well at least they don't look like old socks! Good to know that yours went back to your original size.
Do you ladies sleep with a sports bra or bra during pregnancy? I'm wondering if I should. I usually don't like to wear a bra at all when I'm at home.

@jeepwave you could be measuring behind the EDD based on LMP if you ovulated later. Due dates based on LMP use day 14 as O day, but you might have actually O'd much later than that.

@themadcamel I'm usually a "take my bra off at the end of the day" kind of gal, but now as a PG lady, I am a "wear a comfy bra all day long & sports bra all night long" kinda gal. Started out as 32DD over here, & DH insists they're already "a lot bigger" & that he "would know" lol.

Going along with the boobs/bra questions, I'm in the other camp - 34b on a good day (pre-pregnancy). Any recommendations for good nursing bras STMs have used in the past?

@cammie0526 32a here. I got a “cheap” 3 pack from amazon ($28 for 3 bras) It did the job and I liked them. (Link in spoiler). I also got some bralettes from Wal-Mart that worked well for BFing. I’m currently wearing the sh*t out of them because underwires suck.

@themadcamel My boobs got smaller after I stopped BFing, but they’re still of the same perkiness. Who knows if they will do the same after #2.

Thanks @eller-2 @dolewhipper & @themadcamel definitely feel better!  I was on the pill for so long then when I got off my periods were slightly irregular so might be where the discrepancy is.  I am scheduled for another visit in 2 weeks when I should be 8 weeks.  It was nice to see that little blob and heartbeat early though!!

@eller-2 Yeah, baby is pretty well protected now. I have two and I know my son accidentally jumped on me a few times but I learned to be careful with my belly. My younger son is totally fine. :)

I think if you can minimize picking up, but I still carry my one year old around. My grandmas had 7 and 8 kids, a year apart. I’m sure they had to do some heavy lifting and they are ok. I mean, I don’t go looking for it but when the kids need you, it’s hard to do otherwise

@themadcamel I have a large chest, and I was worried about the same thing. My boobs didn’t grow that much in pregnancy, but they blew up when my milk came in. Engorgement, woof. Started at a 34DD, and went to 36DDD pregnant - I  bought two nursing bras at Soma that I wore all pregnancy and nursing. I also wear soft and loose sports bras at night. Now that I’m almost Weaning my son, I’m probably around where i was but still a bit bigger, breast wise. My boobs have lost some perk but aren’t totally saggy.

I have no idea why my post repeated itself 4x. So sorry ladies. I also cant see how to delete them :( I've decided I cant use my phone for this. I was trying to reassure the mama that had an early ultrasound that has to go back on 2 weeks.

@jeepwave I am in the same boat. I had the implant in before TTGP and my periods were all kinds of crazy so my EDD is probably off too. My LMP was 12/8 but I was temping and they say I didn’t O until 12/26 so that would make my EDD a whole week later than the calculators say.

For those of you who are being monitored by an RE during this pregnancy - how often are you being seen for ultrasounds/blood work? I'm going weekly and it feels excessive. The time I spend in that office and the money I am paying insurance is draining. Last week we finally saw the heartbeat but I think it may be wasteful & potentially risky to keep going weekly for the next 3 weeks... thoughts??

ETA: I got pregnant via meds, not IUI or IVF if that matters
That definitely sounds excessive to me, unless you need it for anxiety reasons. This is my second RE-monitored pregnancy -- and their standard is beta hCG at 14 DPO (9dp5dt) and 17 DPO (12dp5dt) and then nothing more until an ultrasound at 7wks, unless there're problems or there are anxiety issues to address. (They're happy to pull extra bloods or do more ultrasounds if you request 'em.)

WRT the boobs -- I was a 32G before my first kiddo. I'm a 32HH now. T_T I'm kinda scared of where I'll be when breastfeeding this one...

Doubleposting to ask -- I'm seeing a lot of folks are putting their entire signatures into a spoiler tag. Is that a new culture thing for our board specifically (and therefore definitely a thing I ought to do), or is it more in the personal preference space (and therefore OK either way)...?

@soralette For me, it’s a personal preference. Many people here have either experienced losses or have had friends here experience losses so IMO it’s just a courtesy so you’re not flashing your KU status or loss history around if you’re posting on multiple boards.

@soralette I am in the same size category as you and I am absolutely terrified of what will happen with this pregnancy.

I feel like there's no good answer to this question, but I am going to post it anyway: Peppermint tea, yay or nay? Most sites say it's fine, but of course I've stumbled across a few that are like "maybe not" or "no" & now... I feel like it's not worth the risk bc nothing is--but most other herbal teas are off the table, and I have a big ol box of the peppermint. Anyone here know anything about why peppermint tea is so... controversial! during pregnancy? I feel like I need the advice of an 18th century herbalist who the village thinks is a witch lol.
  • Options
@kagesstarshroom IDK why it’s not “okay” during PG, but I can 100% say that during BF’ing avoid it (and menthol/spearmint?) because it dries you up. I had the worst cold during the winter after DS was born and my supply never recovered from eating (what felt like) hundreds of cough drops.
  • Options
@kagesstarshroom I used peppermint oil to help ward off nausea last pregnancy, a cup a day should be fine. I'm curious to see what the reasons for "no" are.

I wouldn't suggest drinking it closer to your edd though because it's a milk supply killer.
  • Options
@kagesstarshroom I've been drinking it to help with nausea. Mint things have been super helpful, but I have to avoid sweets due to high blood sugar.

@lillywonderland Oh, good to know. I'm not a huge herbal tea fan to begin with, so I will most likely not be drinking this later anyway.
