What is everyone doing to ring in the new year? We are going to a friend's house to have a game night along with another family. Our kids are all close in age and good friends. It should be a good time!
@fatmonica We are just staying in. We got some snacks and fake champagne to toast at midnight and we're just going to relax on the couch I think
I have a very random question, and may not get any responses, but does anyone out there live in the North Georgia area? We are contemplating moving and I was curious how the towns in those areas were for raising kids. We go every year on vacation, but I know that moving there we would need to consider the needs of our new addition also!
@fatmonica we're having a friend and her kids over for a game night lol. But we've all already agreed we're probably not making it until midnight.
Same friend came over last night and we had a girls' night and only lasted until 10:30 before we both felt like we were going to pass out 😂 it cracks me up, because this is a girl I used to party with, so we went from staying out every weekend until 7am to bed by 10 😂
Just hanging out. Hoping to make it to midnight H and I are both feeling a bit under the weather so we'll see. He's out getting our car serviced so I may ask him to stop at Target on the way home and get some of that Welch's Sparkling Rose I keep seeing. I initially ignored it because I'm so over sparkling grape juice/cider but apparently the Sparkling Rose is actually pretty delicious!
We have a houseful with the ILs, SIL and her husband and kids. We’re staying in, making a huge spread of snacks and appies and plan to watch the World Juniors game (CAN vs RUS) tonight then play games. We will probably do a countdown at 10:00pm (or earlier) for my kids and then see if the rest of us last until midnight
We bought cured meats and brie for DH and I tonight and we plan to watch Six (a History Channel drama series on Navy seals) on Hulu, maybe making it to midnight. The girls will be going to bed at their usual time after we do some confetti poppers we bought at Walmart. We're such party animals 😆
So DD1 got a Walmart gift card for her birthday. DH found a FurReal Tiger online at a store a few towns over on "rollback" from $129.97 to $30, we thought for sure it was a misprint but went to check it out just in case. It wasn't a mistake! She is *obsessed* with big cats (as in almost every single present she got for her birthday and Christmas was related) so it was an insanely perfect deal! Both girls are currently playing with it while DH gets them lunch.
I have zero desire to make it to midnight tonight! I do have some fake champagne, but I am really not interested in New Year's. Tomorrow we are going to my parent's for lobster and New Year's day dinner, though. I am looking forward to that!
I have been falling asleep between 9 and 10pm, so I think we are going to stay in and hang out tonight.
In other news, I am getting grief about probably missing a family event that was planned for early April (I will be 33 weeks). It is a 13 hour drive that they want to do on a Friday and then return home on a Sunday. I hate that drive under the best of circumstances and really don't want to travel that far. How do you all feel about third trimester travel?
Our friends like to go all out. This year is a prom theme, 80’s or 90’s prom. We are supposed to dress up and go to dinner and then back to one of the friends places to ring in the new year. I’m a Scrooge and I don’t want to go to this nice restaurant, all dressed up in some costume, take pictures and bring attention to myself. And being pregnant and going to Goodwill to find a dress not my idea of fun. Mil agreed to watch the girls till 10, so I will be coming home and Dh can stay. They are even having a contest for prom king and prom queen and there are sashes!

@DuchessOfCambridge the sparking Rose is definitely worth trying! It’s the only sparkling cider I’ve had and liked (I actually got up and double checked the label a half glass in because I was doubting it was really nonalcoholic!) my acid reflux is back so a bubbly drink doesn’t sound appealing to me today, but I liked it when I had it.
@eatinwatermelonseeds yay! Finally! @anonellis that's good to know, H is picking it up on his way home! @cwell2016 is flying an option? I would be very uncomfortable in a car for that long in third tri. It's doable and I'd consider it safe enough but I just wouldn't want to. If your family gives you way too much grief about it, just say your Dr said no.
I've decided next year we will have a Noon Year's Eve party for all the babies. We know enough babies now that it would be a good crowd plus there will be more by next NYE! Kind of wish I'd thought of it for this year though, ha.
@cwell2016 I have been told no travel outside of an hour or so of our hospital after 32-34 weeks. I was hoping to go on our Madison field trip with my students but my midwives have told me no.
Side note: I found an AMAZING baby registry website called BabyList. You can add items from literally ANY website! I have added things from amazon, Etsy, Audrey’s Bear, and other cute clothing websites as well as transfered our Target registry onto that site. I love being able to add literally anything to it!
@cwell2016 I would not want to do a long drive at that point in my pregnancy. In my previous pregnancies, after 30 weeks, I got a ton of BH if I was in the car longer than an hour. Could you tell family that mostly you will not be going but that when the time comes if you are feeling good you may consider it?

I'm still on "vacation" with my family. We are staying at a beautiful Airbnb and I have be transformed into the family maid. I'm not a neat freak by any means but I cant stand leaving someone elses place a mess and wont eat out of a dirty kitchen. Just call me Cinderella
@cwell2016 we drove 4 1/2 hrs to get here. At 21wks I was kinda miserable in the car already. I will avoid travel as best I can until Lo gets here. Ftm so no knowledge of safety just comfort.
DH just called and he found a pink and leopard dress at goodwill. He says I have no choice about the matter and I’m wearing it. Do I refuse to wear it and be the only one not dressed up and make Dh mad, or do I embrace the crazy and just go for it? I wish I could just have fun and be crazy and excited about something like this. I have been also informed I need to appear with some crazy hair.

@cwell2016 I would personally pass. With DS I did a 2 hour car trip around that time and was miserable. My doctor also doesn’t like me to go far starting around 34 weeks.
We just got home from being gone for 7 days in Ohio last night and DS has an ear infection so we are probably going to bed at like 8. We are super exciting.
Just bought a Christmas tree since our prelit died this year. This is a 7ft prelit with color changing lights. Regularly $250, got it for $73. I'm so excited.
@eatinwatermelonseeds whoa, what a deal! We just bought at 7.5 ft prelit but nearly that good of a deal. I am so excited to have a tree that I can’t see the inner pole on next year 😂
@robyn2201 I'd go along with it but I also love NYE! @mrskoz428 I used Babylist with my first pregnancy and it was awesome. I don't care for the Babylist store itself but it was so nice to have everything in one place and, like you said, add things from Etsy and other places. So convenient to give people just one link.
I randomly threw up for no reason. And I threw up a lot. And I peed myself a little due to the force of it. Nothing says Happy NYE like a little incontinence 👍😐
We are just staying in tonight- got some sparking cider and noise makers- don’t know if any of us will make it to midnight though! My 5 yr old is determined to try though!!
@DuchessOfCambridge I just threw up too. I was worried I was getting sick, but then I ate dinner just fine.
I did one of those sensory deprivation float tanks this morning. I had a Groupon and I thought it would be a good way to relax my pregnant muscles and unwind. Well, I didn’t realize it would activate my seasickness. I had to get our early. I will say that it felt really good when I was floating on my stomach and my hips and legs all loosened quite a bit. But it was not worth the nausea. I felt fine and we went and saw a movie (DD had day care and I was off! Whoooo whoo!).
But it then I came home and googled floatation tank and sesickness and 10 minutes later, I was vomiting.
Now we we are watching Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen on CNN. Our favorite NYE coverage. They are totally random and hilarious. I’m going to eat some chocolate ice cream.
@cwell2016 I personally have no issue with 3rd tri travel, but that long of a drive for such a short weekend would make me pass too. If I’m road tripping in the 3rd tri I stop a lot, to use the washroom or stretch, so 13hrs becomes even longer. I did 10ish hours each way at 36 weeks with DD1 for a funeral and it really wasn’t bad at all. But we weren’t in a rush, took our time and had 3 full non-travel days in between arrival and departure.
Thanks for the advice everyone, I definitely think I'm going to pass! It is my brother-in-law's army retirement and has been scheduled for awhile, but flights to Wichita are astronomical and that drive is misery on the best of days.
@chloe97 I thought I was maybe sick too but then I had an entire sub and a bowl of cereal for dinner, so I must be fine 🤷 I have had morning sickness issues since 15 weeks but maybe this was a weird mini return of that?
We celebrated NYE in NY time, so at 9pm we watched the ball drop and toasted to the new year 😂
Adults played games while the kids fought and made us crazy (and occasionally played nicely without anyone ending up in tears), then we had a fire and made smores. Realized DS had never had a fire or toasted marshmallows. It was hilarious to watch him. At one point I was like "are you having fun?" "Yeah. I love chocolate." 😂 Then we watched the ball drop on YouTube and toasted the new year. Everyone left shortly after that, so we finished up the good doctor and now I'm laying in bed wrapped in my pregnancy pillow. Really good night.
DH decided to pick up some extra hours today. I’m bored out of my mind waiting for him to get home. He started at 6:00 am. We totally need the extra money but I really want him home.
@mrskoz428 and @DuchessOfCambridge we were looking into BabyList instead of having multiple, separate registries, but it seemed like you'd lose the completion discounts at each individual store if you don't add items to that registry. I know the site gives a 10% discount on their store, but if I stop adding to my Target one, I probably can't use the discount at the end, could I? I'm doing more research to try to simplify things!
DH got all snippy with me when I told him I didn't want to take the outside Christmas lights down at that exact moment. I spent almost 3 hours outside in the cold this morning with my CrossFit crew and I had just taken a hot shower to warm up so I didn't want to go outside and get cold again. He gave me attitude and I heard him mumbling under his breathe. Dude, stop trying to pick a fight! Also, I took all the ornaments off the tree and disassembled it so at least I wasn't doing nothing

ETA easy crazy hair suggestion: Little buns everywhere.
