I don't have any tattoos or anything pierced for that matter (needle phobic here) but if I were to get one I have always wanted to get a very small four leaf clover behind my ear as a good luck charm that I can never lose. It would probably only be visible if I wore my hair up.
I just got my first tattoo a couple months ago, it's on the inner part of my upper arm, it's an infinity symbol with my son's name, date of birth, a red heart and heartbeat. Pic in spoiler.
1. A small shamrock on my hip/lower tummy.. yeah, I was 18. 2. A harp on my mid back a la Guinness. 3. Celtic knotwork on my upper back. I love this one, but I actually don’t even have a pic of it. If I can find something similar I’ll post it. It has two upside down hearts in it.
I am really into Celtic Trees of Life right now and would like to get one of those. I haven’t settled on a design or location, plus DH doesn’t love my tattoos. He would never say I couldn’t get it, but I don’t think he’d be thrilled. Pic of something I sort of like, minus the cardinals, in (I hope) spoiler.
Edit.. sorry guys, I can’t seem to put it in spoiler on mobile nor can I edit on desktop?? What a n00b
I got mine about a year and a half ago. I always wanted a tattoo but wanted it to mean something. I got an elephant holding a poppy- the elephant represents my grandma, who I was very close with. The poppy is for my grandpa who was a WWII veteran and always gave all of us those fake poppies. I miss them both! I was nervous to show my mom because she has always been so anti tattoo, but she cried (they were her parents). Pic in spoiler
@creamcheeseplease let me guess...are you Irish? That tattoo would be really neat! DH likes mine just because he knows I like it, but he isn’t a fan of tattoos. In fact, I didn’t even tell him I was getting it (I was visiting a friend in Canada and we had been planning it for months 😂) until I got it done and was like SURPRISE!
Hahaha how could you tell @b_1029? :-) your tattoo and it’s meaning are beautiful.
I didnt even write the meanings but.. my shamrock tattoo has no real meaning, I have the same harp as my BFF, and my knotwork is just something I loved. The tree of life ties into my love of genealogy and family history, and I love the meaning behind the tree of life in general.
I have a shamrock with Celtic knots in each of the leaves. It's on my upper back between my shoulder blades. My daddy and I were going to get shamrock tattoos for my 18th birthday but he unexpectedly passed away 3 days after my birthday. I have a picture somewhere but I can't find it right now.

My back is actually almost covered. I have Celtic trinities that form a circle, then a tree of life with roots around that, a dove on either side and then Bible verses on ribbon on either side as well.
No tattoos and I've never really thought about getting one. Something about the idea of it being permanent scares me. Then again, I didn't really like the idea of ear piercings and never got them until I was 20ish. I think the only time I would consider getting one would be to commemorate a tragic loss (of a child, sibling, or husband).
I have a dragonfly on the top of my back. It had no meaning, but a dragonfly is the “symbol” for my autoimmune disease that I was diagnosed with later in life.
i have always wanted others, and still plan to get more, but something comes up every time I try, like health issues.
TW my next is going to be a music note and my brother’s initials maybe date of birth and death. I had to cancel getting it because I was pregnant , then because I was getting chemo.
1. A lizard on my shoulder with its tail wrapped around my arm; 2.-4. Three characters from my favorite horror movie on my upper back; 5. Hearts that start at my ankle and wrap around my leg, ending on my shin; and 6. A half-sleeve of the Joker and Harley Quinn.
Do they mean anything? Some of them do. Others are just because I wanted to decorate my body. I went to art school so I love art.
I got my tattoo as a way for me to remember my friend, that life is fleeting and I need to love myself first and foremost. Life is too short to be sad and love is all we need.
*TW - death mentioned*
My friend died in a tragic drowning accident when I was in college. He gave his life to try and save his cousin (who also perished). We don’t know how long we’re on this planet so I try to live everyday with no regrets. He was a true hero, so selfless and a wonderful human being. I only hope that I am making him proud today.
I have 2. A butterfly (your all shocked, I can tell....) on my shoulder blade. And, on my lower back I have 2 hibiscus flowers with both of my grandfathers initials and dates of passing. I originally got it with my dads dads initials but my moms dad loved it and asked if he could have the other flower when he passed. I made good on my promise 😊.
I also want to get a few more. The first is an oyster w/ pinkish blueish pearl on my inner wrist (this spot has some self mutilation scars) to represent that and my losses. I also want to get my cats paw prints up my side. Every night she walks up my leg and lays on my side. This one will wait until she is no longer with me though.
I have a butterfly tramp stamp that I got when I was 21 with my friends. DH also has tattoos too and doesn’t mind them as long its not across my forehead or something
I’ve been thinking of getting one for my lost babies. I love angel wings but also found a great photo idea online.
i think the picture is in the spoiler! Sorry if not!
I have two small tattoos. 1. On my hip which I got with my twin sister when we were 17. It's the Gemini astrology sign that sort of looks like this.. but the ends are a bit more curly and pretty. We were supposed to be born on June 16 which would have made our star sign as Gemini but we were born early so we are Taurus. But we liked this best.
2. Got a Japanese kanji that means "little sister" with my best friend (at the time)... I don't regret it because it reminds me of good times. This friend was the one that introduced DH to me. Without her, my life would have been totally different!

@B_1029 aww I have such a soft spot for grandparents, your tattoo is perfect! @celticknotfire that gave me chills. @lillywonderland I'm so sorry for your loss, the tattoo itself sounds really simple but the meaning behind it is beautiful. Also, completely unrelated but anytime anyone is SITB I think of this:
AFM, no tattoos yet but I always said that someday when I get married I'd have the Japanese kanji for my last name tattooed on my body somewhere if I decide to take MH's last name. We've decided that I am probably going to hyphenate it because otherwise we'll have basically the same name (they're homophones).

@stephanie123456 i love that you & yr twin got gemini tattoos! i'm glad it's on yr hip tho so ppl don't ask you all the time if you're a gemini, though i like that it's that bc of the twin thing AND that you were supposed to be born then. @radiohd18 is the one in the spoiler also yrs or one yr planning? @prpl11butterfly of course you have a butterfly! & i remember reading about yr oyster idea recently & i really love it. @riff323 & @brookert615 yall win for most covered. =P @holly321 i kind of get annoyed when ppl assume a tattoo *has to* "mean" something? it's allowed to just be pretty! @b_1029 LOVE that elephant omg. @creamcheeseplease yes, that tree is pretty & seems like it would work well w/ the others you have!
i have a ram skull with a flower crown on the top 1/3 of my back & a diamond with the alchemic symbol for water crossed over it above it. i based that one on a drawing i found on pinterest & loved but inserted stuff that was meaningful to me instead
also, DH's birthday aND anniversary present for 2018 for me was my chestpiece. it's maidenhair fern & cypress, two of the plants that grow in our yard here that i love. (pic deleted 💚)
I love all your tattoos! I'm going to put a *TW* on this whole thing.
@marebear15 Much like you, I never thought I would get a tattoo. Never even had my ears pierced. Then I had DS, and our journey with him totally changed that. Before he passed, I felt like I would want a tattoo to commemorate him. Then, after he passed, I definitely wanted a tattoo for him. I just got it done last week

It's in the shape of a heart to symbolize his heart defect. I love how it turned out! I expected the process to be a lot more painful than it was. I can totally see myself getting more someday.

@prpl11butterfly The pain was much less than I was expecting. I mean, it feels like a needle on your skin, but I didn’t have any problems. Honestly I think the itchiness I have now 5 days afterwards is worse lol.

I don't have a tatoo, but I think if I were to get one, it would be a tiny green heart with a semicolon in the middle. It would be a reminder to me that even though I live with anxiety and depression, I am a damn warrior and I am both worthy and capable of love. Green is the color of mental health awareness and the semicolon means that we keep fighting. Not sure where I would get it.
@radiohd18 the tattoo in your spoiler (or similar at least) was on my short list. Love it!
DH and I got matching tattoos on our wrists to honor our first mc. It's the blue and pink miscarriage awareness ribbon with the date of birth. We've talked about adding the date for our second one as well, just haven't done it yet.
I have three tattoos - one on my foot, my low back (I'm 37, so it wasn't a tramp stamp when I got it...) and one inside my ankle. *TW* I want to get one for my losses and I love some of the bird tattoos, but depressingly, I've had too many losses at this point. It would look like a damn aviary. So I might get one with a dandelion and five seeds blowing away. *End TW*
@SpongeWorthy I agree! I have always found the itchiness/sunburning worse than compared to the actual needle pain, which is somewhat enjoyable somehow. Though, having to sit still for a long time is what I always forget is the worst for me haha.
@kagesstarshroom I agree the itching was harder than the needle for me because it lasted a few days. I think the work I had was 2 hours tops? The needle, for me, was like really annoying pinches or tiny stings but nothing overwhelming or worth stopping for. In retrospect, it’s nothing compared to other pain I have experienced in my life.
