So, yesterday evening, DH noticed that our back door was ajar. It almost looked like it was closed, but it wasn’t, so I didn’t even notice it all day. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal except that we never use the back door. DH said that it’s been at least a week since the last time he went out there. So now both of us are freaking out about it because either the door has been open for a week and available for anyone to come in or something or someone was able to open our door recently. We thoroughly searched the house including our attic for any signs of anyone being there, but I still don’t feel safe at home right now.
Oh, @kjr9519, I’m so sorry - there’s nothing worse than losing the feeling of safety in your own home. I hope it’s nothing - maybe it just wasn’t latched properly and the wind pushed it ajar slightly (I know the wind has been brutal here the last week), but not knowing is much worse than anything else. Do you guys have a security system or have the budget for one? Maybe just a motion camera at that door? It might give you some peace of mind.

@kjr9519 ekkk. That would be super freaky. That was smart to search the attic and everything. Maybe getting a deadbolt for it or just like a chain lock above the normal lock would help you? I know I like having two locks on our doors at home for extra piece of mind.
@kjr9519 that feeling is just the WORST. That sucks to have to deal with it! I would feel so so weird after that. Hoping some time can help you feel a little more secure. But yikes!
@kjr9519 I would definitely be investing in some extra locks. I'm really glad you DH was home when it was found so that he could check the house with/for you. Hopefully it was nothing and you guys have nothing to worry about.
@shamrocandroll I’m sorry for your loss @whitney812 that sounds scary! I’m glad your DD is feeling better @meatballs37 I’m a terrible sleeper and need at least an hour to fall asleep so napping is out for me. DH can fall asleep anytime, anywhere, it’s so annoying!
Thanks everyone! We have a deadbolt that we’re not the greatest at using, but we’re definitely going to be using it now. I’ll start looking for a security camera online today. They’re really not that expensive, and I’m sure it would make us feel a lot safer.
@meatballs37 it's quite the opposite for DH and I - I can fall asleep virtually anywhere, anytime, practically on command. Him not so much. My problem is that once I'm asleep I'm such a deep sleeper, I could probably sleep through the zombie apocalypse. This freaks me out a ton, especially being a FTM, that I will sleep right through babies cries.
@wearyfuzzball I can also sleep through anything.... minus my babies cries. I slept through a hurricane blowing out a window in my house, and yet I wake up to the slightest whimper of my toddler (still at 16 months). I was so scared I wouldn’t wake up to baby either, but you do. The way they cry affects our brains in a way that is completely unique to our babies and it wakes you up.

@tuxielove93@wearyfuzzball especially if you’re breastfeeding....if baby starts crying even if your ears don’t hear it your milk ducts will 😂 wake up in a puddle lol
I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat but I also hear everything while I am sleeping. I can tell you exactly where the dog is in the house and what she is doing at any point during the night.
I hear phantom cries some nights. It's so frustrating because it keeps me from falling into a deep sleep. It usually happens when my kids have been up more than once in the night. It's like the sound of their cries was burned into my brain.
@emeraldcity603 Ah, forgot about the phantom cries! It took me until he was one to mostly stop hearing them. Man I remember those early days were the baby cry would wake me and I'd be running to him before I realized I was awake. My husband would give me the you crazy look as half the time he had him and he didn't need to nurse. So scared of those early days.
I heard a dog or cat outside the other night crying and it woke me up because I thought it was DS. And he wasn't even home that night, he was staying with my dad!
So we closed on our house! At least one little source of anxiety is gone. Now I just have my first u/s tomorrow and we move tomorrow.
It was kinda funny because we had the ADT guy come out tonight because we want to switch our security system over to the new house. Well while he was here going over stuff with us, we heard a knock at the door and it was another ADT guy! (Actually an ADT Authorized Dealer, so not directly from the company). But it was awkward like oh.....hey.....we already have an ADT guy here.....lol. I don't know why I found that so hilarious.
DH got up with the baby all night last night. I so needed all that sleep. The night before I was up with all 3 kids (at different times) from 1:30-4:30. I was a cranky mess after that too.
My coworker just came in saying she still feel sick and was feverish this morning and that she debated staying home because of me. Go home woman!!! I gently/joking told her to but she is still here
@jhems776 - uhhhhhhh, its cold/flu season woman! Has she had her flu shot?
Speaking of, anyone get their flu shot yet? I've put it off because they always make me feel sick and I can't stomach the idea of feeling worse than I already do right now. I'm hoping to wait until maybe 11-12 weeks? Is it worth waiting? Or do I just suck it up?
@harrierwife She did get it at least but I think I'll say something again soon. Our work has someone come in and it's free. I got mine at like week 4, go get yours asap! Every day it spreads and the early you have it the better.
@harrierwife I got mine about a month ago. They have a version they give pregnant women that's different than the regular one. Not sure if it will still make you feel crappy though.
@harrierwife I got mine last week at my first OB appointment! Go get yours! I felt a bit fevered and sore for about a day after. I’m sorry they make you feel sick
@jhems776 That drives me nuts! We had someone come in sick last week and got like 5 other folks sicks. Thankfully, we are able to work from home and my boss is very supportive of us working from home when we don't feel well. I have been able to bank on that this week to deal with the misery of MS at home.
I have not received my flu shot yet, but plan on getting one. My mother has a suppressed immune system (due to a double lung transplant) so I always get one, not only to protect myself, but her. Hoping to bring it up at my appt on Monday.
I was upset they didn't give me my flu shot at my first appointment, they have it scheduled for my second appointment on 11/19. I couldn't see what the big deal would be sticking me right then, but clearly my practice doesn't like to veer off schedule. The county comes in and gives free shots at work, but they came the day I was out at the doctor! Oh well, just a couple more weeks, and everyone at work and my family has one now, so I feel a bit better about that.
I got my flu shot. The whole family has except the teenager. He will get his as soon as I can get him to the pediatrician's office.
We had a Halloween party planned for today but it was outside and because it's raining it has been cancelled. It was going to be so much fun. Now my teenager wants 3 of his friends to come to the house all afternoon so I will be surrounded by teenage boys. I will say, they aren't quite as annoying as middle school boys but still.
This year was the first time i got my flu shot @kjr9519 we used to live in not the nicest of areas in a townhouse and i left my key in the door one night... complete with car keys with the car parked in a numbered stall. . Nothing happened but when we moved into our house we got vivint so we can control things from our phones. Piece of mind
We are moving today and its pouring rain of course. The internet and TV are all set up and the security system guy was supposed to be here already....not sure what happened there.
@sparklingdiamond we moved 8 days before Christmas and hosted 16 people on dec 27 then left on 2 weeks holidays lol ... i had painters and furnance cleaners in on same day. cable and internet and security system installed same day.i hope to never move again. Hope the rain lets up
@sparklingdiamond i am from the texas of canada (alberta) we have snow on the ground for halloween lots of times.... its actually pretty nice here today! If he cant trick or treat buy discounted candy tomorrow for him lol
Fill in the blank: the best place I bought casual maternity clothes without spending a fortune was _______.
(I'm a FTM so need to get something and would welcome recommendations... but I'm cheap when it comes to clothes and there will be enough expenses with Baby that if I can avoid spending a ton on maternity stuff, so much the better... and my work dress code is "please wear both a shirt AND pants" but that's about as picky as they get.)
