  • @blueberrymomma- t's funny how we built up something in our heads that will be difficult and then it turns out easy! I do it all the time!

  • Well today was rough. The one bright spot was seeing my baby on ultrasound. That was amazing.
The down sides were basically everything else. At my OB apt, the doctor was in and out so fast I don’t think I even saw her for 5 minutes. Is that normal?
Also, my pregnancy app pissed me off (petty I know) because it was so stupidly fear mongering about caffeine. I downloaded a new one -Ovia. Seems better.
And I’m super sick and everything is terrible
  • I'm sorry @professormama :frowning:.  At my first appointment, I actually saw a nurse and then a resident.  The attending physician was in and out in two minutes after I spent a decent amount of time with the resident (who also did an ultrasound for us).  Did you see anyone else before the OB?  Sorry it was a disappointing visit.

  • @kangstadt saw the nurse for long enough to take blood pressure and weight. Saw the ultrasound tech. That’s it. No other consultation. Not that I needed it. But it was weird. I just don’t love this ob. But I live in a small town and I think she’s my best option.
  • Today was rough.

I love decorating for Christmas. But I wait till black Friday to put decorations up . Gotta enjoy my fall stuff.

I have no problem telling people our name options. I think it's good to get a general feel for how the general populace reacts to a name. If a name carries baggage, I'd like to know before I name my kid that. Most difference of opinions on names comes down to taste, and well and some point you kinda got own your taste.
  • @professormama I don’t see my OB during ultrasounds, just the technician. When I have my regular appointments my doctor spends plenty of time with me and answers all my questions
  • When when my OB does an ultrasound it lacks finesse and the pic is blurry. Haha. The techs are so much better.
At our hospital the OB doesn’t deliver. Actually all the people in delivery are unfamiliar/work in delivery. Midwife, delivers unless it gets dicey and you never meet them ahead of time.

I liked having my doula because there was someone someone knowledgeable and familiar there.
  • @kbirchtree Yes this, it's hilarious! My RE was an expert at ultrasound tech, and now to go to my midwife/OB and the photos are horrible. At least we got to see the baby move on the screen.

My midwife was so rushed at our appointment yesterday, but she really tried her best to do everything we asked and answer all our crazy questions. It's such a change going from appts at a tiny practice to a huge one!
    Me: 29 DW: 44
  • Welp, I really thought I was starting to feel better (and most of the time, I am), but this morning I blew chunks in the work bathroom and got it all over my shoe. Like, the worst, most volatile throwing up I've had since I've been pregnant (granted, I've only thrown up a handful of times). It SUCKS.
  • Aw that sucks @rennie1108 I did that too all over my carpet and barfed again having to scrub it all out, Isn't sudden onset nausea just wonderful   :s
  • Haha @kaleesi93 it really is SO wonderful! That totally sucks you did it on carpet!
  • I fell down the stairs yesterday while holding my 10 month old.. scary! My only thought was protect him and baby. Luckily they are okay but I ruined my ankle. Worst sprain I could have and I cant move it or put weight on it. Crutches for at least a week. How am I supposed to carry my son around? :(( stressed
  • @elmich3 Oh no!  I'm so sorry that happened, but thankfully the LOs are okay. I was on crutches for 6 weeks over the summer.  I got by by literally pushing my daughter from room to room in her stroller and wearing her (sparingly - not the safest choice).  Good luck!
  • Oh @elmich3 that is so scary!!!  It's amazing how those mom instincts kick in!  I hope you recovery quickly.  Yikes.

  • @elmich3 that is super scary! I hope you heal fast!

@professormama I think that's pretty normal for OBs in general or even midwives at hospitals. All of my appointments I saw my provider for I swear less than 5 minutes, it was so non-personal and I never felt like I got to know them. I'm going through a birth center right now and all of the appointments are scheduled for an hour to fully go over any and all questions/concerns and build that relationship. There aren't any nurses or anything you work directly with the midwife who is going to deliver you (2 at the practice and at least one of them attends the birth). I feel so much better about this pregnancy experience and I'm not even fully a third through.

  • @rennie1108, yep, this week is the first time I've thrown up also.  I'm hoping it's not a sign things are getting worse!

@elmich3, that's so scary!  I sprained my ankle really badly walking in the snow carrying my son, and somehow I managed not to drop him.  Maternal instincts for the win?  I hope you heal quickly!

@angelob88, I wish we had that option here!  It sounds so much more stress-free.

  • How do baby showers work? Am I suppose to do that myself? Or is a friend or family member supposed to handle this?!
    Baby registries are overwhelming.
How do I know what I need?!
Also my Father in Law who lives with us is still smoking! He does it in the garage but it’s attached to the kitchen. It’s making me ill. He said he’s trying to quit but I can’t tell. Ugh!
    sorry...

Showers are thrown for you generally.
You have time. You don't need to register for everything right now.
Ask other Moms for their advice, Google search forum posts, and I'm sure in time more posts will pop up on here for you to reference.

You Have plenty of time for this.

FIL needs to smoke outside for now on.
  • @Bringmemylongswordho Thank you. I’m just frazzled at the moment.
After we announce I’m hoping things settle into place a bit more.
  • @elmich3 noooo I’m so sorry! I have had many sprained ankles and one that ended up in an actual cast. I loved my scooter that I kneeled on, because I could control with one hand and hold things like my dinner plate with the other. Ask around your friend group - someone may have one in storage that you can borrow for two weeks or so. Also, just embrace living on one floor and get some clothes and such downstairs stat.

@izzymarie80 some of the other BMBs are doing product spotlights to get reviews and recommendations on particular things (bottles, bassinets, diapers, baby blankets, etc etc). We can start that up here - I asked but there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of interest.

Emily Post would recommend that a baby shower would be thrown for you, ideally not by an immediate relative (mother, father, husband). But, I think people are generally somewhat flexible about who throws the shower.

Baby registries are overwhelming. But you don’t need quite as much as they make you think. Amazon and Bye Bye Baby, and others  often have suggested registry items or checklists to fill out. As long as you have a car seat, a place for the baby to sleep, and some diapers and wipes, you’ll survive

when you feel really panicky just remind yourself that people have been doing this for thousands of years, and you can too!
  • @elmich3 yikes sorry about your ankle but glad bubs is ok. I second a scooter. I’ve never used one but they people I see with them always look so much more comfortable.

Usually a friend or family member throws you one.

Baby registries, amazon has a nice reward box (if you are prime member) if you fill their registry out. You can also just go into target and do one. Both give you discounts for after a certain date to get a bunch of stuff at once with 15% off. It’s nice for some of the things you may need. You can also throw groceries and household needs in the list right before you go buy it all and use the discount that way. There are lots of list starters and they guide you.

As as far Smoker in the house, if he is really interested in quitting I’d suggest a vaping device and slowly lowering the nicotine that way, it really helped my brother and his friend. It’s not as bad to be around and had no bad odor. It’s a good step at least. And he can lower the dose of nicotine while still having the same amount of “smoking” time.
  • @lyse01 I would love to see the product spotlights and recommendations. I’m completely clueless about baby stuff.

@professormama Thank you! I really worked myself up about all this but you wouldn’t believe how these message boards help.

@kbirchtree I didn’t know that about the registries. That’s great info! Thank you!
Also, we bought FIL a vape thingy and he said he’s using it but there is no evidence at all. DH is going to talk to him about it. I feel bad about pushing him to quit so hard but this is his Grandbaby and for the health of all of us he needs to!

    Again, thank you ladies!!

  • I think I caught a stomach bug or morning sickness has decided to strike at almost 13 weeks. I threw up multiple times at work today and I’m absolutely miserable. You ladies that have been sick this entire time - I’m in awe of you.
  • @sdelg09, ugh, that sucks and I totally agree.  Ladies who've dealt with puking this whole time amaze me.  I hope you get some relief soon!

I've thrown up three times this week and I'm miserable.  Hoping it's just a combination of head cold/mucus and constant preggo nausea.

  • @kangstadt we’re almost in the second tri. Let’s hope this stomach stuff ends soon!

I made the mistake of wearing heels to the spa today. I thought I just had one facial client so I’d be sitting down. Nope. They stuck me on the brow bar. I redeemed myself from my brow mess up by creating some beautiful brows though! My feet are now very sore and swollen  :'(
  • Anyone else anyone else gag while brushing their teeth?
  •   @kbirchtree Yep. My gag reflex is hella sensitive when pregnant. Brushing my teeth is like Russian roulette, gag, gag, gag, throw up..?

  • Thank you for the well wishes! DH has had to pretty much take over with DS as I lay on the couch and while he works, my mom has taken him. So appreciative but I miss my son :( I will definitely have to look into a scooter (crutches stink) and hope it heals enough that I can take care of DS on my own. Hes just at that age that he still needs to be carried but I cant.
  • I have to call in to work today. I’m really upset. I can’t get out of bed without puking, but I’m perfectly fine when I’m in bed. I feel awful, because I requested tomorrow off for my NT ultrasound and then I’m off the next two days after that. They knew I was sick yesterday, but still. But I can’t be vomiting this much at such a customer-heavy job. I barely got anything done yesterday. I do a lot of lifting and heavy work and DH says I need to slow down. I’m just so anxious about it. I LOVE my job, and I have the best and most understanding supervisor. But I’m still fairly new and I hate letting anyone down.
  • @izzymarie80 first Product Spotlight is up!

@sdelg09 yuck. Feel better soon. You too @kangstadt!
  • Okay, so DD fell out of nowhere onto her forehead and started crying (she now has a nice pink bump). After a few minutes of not being consoled by DH or me, I whipped out a boob to nurse and she calmed down.

I am confident in this method of comforting my toddler, but MIL decided to share that she was always taught to not do that because they would associate food with comfort. I commented that I think opinions are more varied now, but now that I’m trying to pull up proof (besides lactation consultants that are also pro-attachment parenting, which she won’t find credible), I can’t seem to find the right google search term. Help. Anyone have any decently researched/reputable sources that touch on this?
  • @lyse01, I don't have sources, but just wanna say I would do exactly the same thing in that circumstance.  Sometimes nursing was the only thing that calmed my son down if he took a tumble.  I believe the hormones and such that come from nursing help soothe the kiddo more than just a cuddle or kiss.  Wish I could provide the research to back it up for you though!

  • @lyse01 Kelly mom is the best resource on breastfeeding that I know of. Here’s a link that includes a ton of info on breastfeeding as pain relief.

  • @professormama concur - and found it once I remembered analgesia as a search term! I followed up in this week’s Randoms.
