Re: Week 1 Check-in (9/10-9/16)

  • Due date: 3/6/19

Any appointments? Questions?: No appointments this week or questions

Rants/Raves?: Rant: my doctor's office has had my Counsyl results for who knows how long and hasn't bothered to call me. I only know because I contacted Counsyl to see what "under clinical review" meant and when I could expect that to be complete.  They didn't pick up the phone or return my call Friday, so I intend to stalk them this morning. This is the only thing that stands between me feeling comfortable sharing that I am pregnant with my kids, friends and family and people at work.

How are you feeling?: I actually don't feel too bad, except I am sore from the gym now that my nausea has subsided. I am really, really tired all the time though.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. I never had any growing up!  My family now always goes together to cut down a Christmas tree in Dec. As much as I hate being outside in nature in the cold, I like it.

@chocolatelemons yeah for new cars!  Me personally, unless I am pressed for time would just keep it. But that's my PGAL brain wanting to keep tabs on everything as often as possible to make sure everything's Ok.

  • @BuckeyeNut05 My doc's office had the test results for 24 hours before they were released for me to check for myself on Counsyl's site. (I missed my doc's first call to me during a meeting and they had a really hard time getting them to call me back, so I understand the frustration.) I'm not sure if the release settings are different for everyone (or set by your physician), but worth logging in and checking!
  • Due date: 3/2

Any appointments? Questions?: Not until 9/24 and it's just a quick routine prenatal exam.

Rants/Raves?: Rave: Had a bunch of friends over (several from out of state) to celebrate DH's birthday and two friends who have the same birthday and one born 4 days earlier. It's always great to see everyone and it was a lot of good laughs.

How are you feeling?: Overall, pretty good. A little nipple soreness comes and goes, occasional hiph aches, stomach is definitely expanding although I think it's still small enough that only DH and I would notice.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has: My family usually goes to the movie theater on major holidays since we rarely go otherwise.

@heytherefriend yes, they told me they'd be auto released on 9/13.  I had blood drawn on 8/28 and I am just over waiting if they've had them and are just waiting for them to auto release. Esp since they told me I would hear in a week at my draw.

Edit: I called first thing this morning and I was negative for all 3 chromosomal abnormalities!  :)
  • @chocolatelemons My prenatal check-up a have been once a month. If yours are like that too, I personally don't think it's a big deal if you don't go to your last OB appointment when your next check-up is a week later but that's based on me and my circumstances and I don't know about yours. Use your best judgement and go with that. If you're asking, I'm guessing you'd rather not go.
  • Due date: 3/5

Any appointments? Questions?: Not till 9/20

Rants/Raves?: @chocolatelemons  That’s great! We’re shopping for a new car and I’m jealous that you’re already to the fun part of taking it home

How are you feeling?: Generally pretty good! This cold is better but my asthma is still being a pain in the rear. Biggest symptoms now are dizziness if I get up quickly and lower abdominal cramps

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. Paintbrush cookies for Christmas https://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/paintbrush-cookies/71c57baf-3047-4fd7-b03e-f0488e9decc1
  • @mayoduck I ended up canceling which works out because my son has an ear infection  :( and now I’ll be able to take care of him.

@mamaoftwomonkeys I’m so excited! We had been looking for a bit, but yesterday I was at the point of being so done with dealerships so we pulled the trigger. Not sure what you’re looking for, but we test drove the crv, rav4, rogue, and Ford Escape. So if you’re looking for input, feel free to ask.
  • @teachermama4 I think we're due date buddies!  :)
  • Due date: March 2.

Any appointments? Questions?: Eek! We just bought our tickets and will be back in our permanent location in early October! I had already booked an appointment for late September, but I knew that was just a placeholder. So now that we have tickets, I called this morning and changed it to right after we get back! So my first appointment is Oct. 4!

    Rants/Raves?:

Rave - yay! We have tickets! We've been traveling for H's work all summer, including several long stints with my inlaws, and H and I are so ready to be on our own again! I love my inlaws, but we are definitely at the getting annoyed over every little thing stage. We always knew we were coming back in late September/early October, but it's so much more concrete now that we bought the tickets! Also, D seems to be better finally. She had a fever and then roseola and was teething and she has been CRAZY for several days. Crying and screaming for no reason. Wanting picked up but then wanting down and then crying when you put her down. She's been good so far today.

My rant would be that every little thing is annoying me about my inlaws, haha. Only three more weeks!

How are you feeling?: Decent today and yesterday. Still dealing with substantial SPD/achy/something pain off and on. Not today or yesterday, thankfully, but it was bad for a couple days before that. Also, it changed and was more sore and higher up on the right side for awhile. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has.

H and I started the tradition of going and getting our tree. I grew up with a fake tree. I also have decided to make stockings for all my children. I made H's and D's, but not mine because I have a really nice one my mom made for me.
  • Due date: 3/6

Any appointments? Questions?: OBGYN monthly checkup on Wednesday - I'll be exactly 15 weeks!

Rants/Raves?: I actually just posted a huge rant in the "Questions" thread. I'd love additional opinions. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12731599/question-need-help-post-here#latest -- As for raves... We got the confetti cannons that my neighbor was kind enough to order for me! SO excited to think that the "boy or girl" question will be answered in less than two weeks. The wait is (and has been) grueling.

How are you feeling?: Really good! Stretching pains every now and then... otherwise I'm riding that 2nd trimester wave of feeling awesome. Thankful for that.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. - Growing up we'd split holidays - Thanksgiving with mom's side, Easter with dad's side, etc... but Christmas has always been one giant family fest. My mom cooks for at least 60 people and we have both her side and my father's side under the same roof. I love it so much!
  • Due date: 3/2 (what my OB is officially going with)

Any appointments? Questions?: We have a private ultrasound on 9/19 to find out gender. Only my mom and DH’s mom will know so they can plan the party but gender reveal party won’t be until 9/30. CANNOT WAIT! Next OB appt is 9/25.

Rants/Raves?: Rant: Work has been so busy! I’ve had new 15 patients in 4 days. That might be a record (I’m a PT).

How are you feeling?: Hating these headaches. They’re from my neck I’m most sure (see job above) but they are so much worse now that I’m pregnant. Nausea is still hit or miss. Oh, but my energy level is much better.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. My mom started this tradition after her and my dad divorced. On Christmas Eve, we put on our pajamas and go ride around looking at Christmas lights. We live in a pretty rural area and some yards go all out. I love it!
  • Due date: 3/8

Any appointments? Questions?: appts are both next week.

Rants/Raves?: I haven’t puked in a while so that’s a plus but I still have some serious aversions and my gagging is still annoying. And my hair is falling out like crazy  :'(

How are you feeling?: still trying to shake this cold. Waiting for my 2nd tri energy boost.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. My grandmother used to make us new pjs for Christmas every year and we’d get them during a little get together on Christmas Eve. Since she passed my now gets us and her grandkids pjs for Christmas along with a Christmas movie or book, popcorn and hot cocoa. She sends it in a Christmas Eve box since we’re all spread out now.

    Due date: 9/7

Any appointments? Questions?: Not this week

Rants/Raves?: Our basement flooded over the weekend (we rent) and the landlord had her maintenance man out early the next day but my DH was up most of the night dealing with it in the basement. It also put our pilot light out on the water heater so we didn’t have hot water last evening. Ugh! It could have been worse so I’m looking at the bright side but still irritating.

How are you feeling?:  Still nauseous at 14+4 ugh it’s so frustrating!

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has.
So many but one of my favorites is a “controversial” one ... my mom I go Black Friday shopping. We have done it since before most people knew it was a “thing”. I seriously remember going with my mom and brothers when we were very young. We would run from door to door of the store to get as many coupons as we possibly could lol! I honestly don’t ever remember not going.
  • Due date: 3/1

Any appointments? Questions?: No appointment until later this month.

Question: I don't think I've really gained much weigh so far and I'm 15.5 weeks. I weigh myself every few days in the morning after I wake up and I've maybe gained a pound or two since becoming pregnant, but I've been told I should be gaining a pound a week in the second trimester and I haven't seen the scale move in the last few weeks. Should I actually be trying to eat more to gain weight? I don't count calories and eat when I'm hungry (and I eat plenty!) and I guess I thought that most of my weight would just come from baby-making related things (more blood, growing human, etc.).

Rants/Raves?: Good news is my family has calmed down a little bit after I broke the news to them about being pregnant/getting married. My mom and her sisters were SO excited, which was really nice, but I was getting completely overwhelmed but the attention and questions. I had a good week of focusing on my work and got to put everything else off to the side which very, very nice.

How are you feeling?: Okay overall. I already complained about this in another thread, but my new awful symptom has been hemorrhoids. I'm also getting super frustrated with my need to pee every half an hour. Even a little bit of urine causes so much pressure in my lower abdomen. I thought first trimester peeing was due to hormones and third trimester peeing was due to a big baby and second trimester wasn't so bad?

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has: My mom's birthday and her older sister's birthday are both on Christmas, which is totally weird. My family has always met my aunt's family on Christmas at a Chinese/Japanese restaurant on Christmas day and we're still doing it today. Nobody ever felt like cooking on Christmas day and Chinese restaurants are the only places open so it's just turned into a tradition.
  • @bug_hunter I haven't gained much weight since bfp either. I'm in the middle of week 15 and have gained maybe 2lbs but then I fluctuate by that amount normally. If you are eating when you're hungry, I wouldn't worry about it unless your doctor brings it up as a concern. I hope you find relief for the hemorrhoids and frequent need to pee! My need to pee has definitely calmed down in the second trimester so hopefully yours will too!
  • Thanks @mayoduck! I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't really gained weight. I'm not overly concerned and I'll ask the doctor in a few weeks at my next appointment. I just feel like most people are discussing the opposite issue (gaining weight/showing early) and it just started to feel weird seeing basically the same number on the scale as I did before the bfp.
  • @indigoheightsblog So exciting to find out what your having! Hope you post pics,  your target announcement pics were so cute!

@bug_hunter I just saw we are due date buddies! I wouldn't think you need to be concerned about weight already. You have plenty of time for that lol just my opinion. dito what @mayoduck said about your dr being concerned. In the mean time I'll just be over here gaining weight for you both.. I can't bring myself to get on a scale at home. My pants tell me all I need to know! hahah

    Due date: 3/1

Any appointments? Questions?: Appt 9/19 and I'm so ready to hear that sweet heart beat again!

Rants/Raves?: Still waiting for that second trimester "wave of energy" people talk about. I still haven't been to the gym in weeks only long walks with the dogs.

How are you feeling?: Still tired. I would love it if I could nap during the day. Growing pains on and off, especially when I move quickly or turn its kinda strange. Body changes are harder for me than I expected. I worked pretty hard over the last 2 years to get fit and I feel like all the cellulite is back with vengeance... I'm beyond overjoyed to carry this sweet one so its hard to tell anyone how I feel about my body. Not even sure it makes sense typed out.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has: My grandmother loved to make special Christmas cookies they are like sugar cookies with orange and spice. She had tons of cookie cutters and we would spend an afternoon baking and icing them. We make some super thin and decorate the tree with them. makes the room smell so good.
  • @chocolatelemons right now we’re looking at a Volvo XC90 but definitely open to suggestions;)

@indigoheightsblog I am totally with you that another appointment seems ridiculous! If your husband isn’t a carrier it seems to be a total waste of time and money

@mayoduck and @bug_hunter I’m totally with you in the hardly gained any weight category. I’m 15 weeks today and gained two pounds only.  It’s a little disconcerting for me because with my last pregnancy I had already gained close to 15 at this point! (I’m attributing the difference just to symptoms. Last pregnancy I was just hungry constantly, while I had pretty constant morning sickness and food aversions  with this pregnancy )
  • @bluebell08 i definitely will! i'm doing an entire blog post on it. last time i posted the post it got taken down, though, so i'll have to find some secret way to share it all with you guys without the bump admin getting involved :)

as for weight gain.... i'm gaining weight for you guys too!!! i gained 11 lbs during first trimester!!!! UGH. luckily i will say i anticipated gaining everywhere (chins, arms, legs, butt) and so far i am "all belly" and everything else looks mostly the same. praying it stays that way for the duration, though not likely.
  • Due date: 3/3

Any appointments? Questions?: Next Friday, Sept 21st

Rants/Raves?: So I was getting over all the 1st tri symptoms a couple weeks ago and then ended up with an awful virus last week. I am somewhat recovered now from that. But the symptom that persists is a lack of appetite. I did not have this with DD, I had quite the opposite. I am repulsed by all meats, I only eat a little bit of anything when I do eat a meal and I'd rather drink liquids or eat soups. I'm not nauseous anymore, I just don't feel like eating anything and nothing ever sounds good when I am slightly hungry. I'm kind of over it.

How are you feeling?: This kind of goes with above. I have an aversion to all foods at the moment and I'm really tired. Still have a cough from my virus last week, which has not been fun.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has: This has been a struggle for DH an I for 10 years now. He is still very stuck on his family's traditions that he does...with his family, so it's been hard to make our own. We do go to church together, just DH, DD, and I on Christmas Eve and then I also insist we do Christmas morning at home alone. So those two things are the main things we do. We still do two holidays with both sides for everything else....I can't get DH to give it up.

  • @bluebell08 Nice! I'm hoping the kid is born in March, only because there are no March birthdays in my family yet but several February ones. It totally doesn't matter and I'm sure when the time comes it'll be the least of my concerns, but for right now I'm rooting for March haha.
  • Due date: 3/1

Any appointments? Questions?: 16 week appointment on Thursday. I'm anxious. I'm trying not to be, but I'm not sleeping well and that's not helping.

I'm with those of you who haven't gained weight so far. I'm actually down a pound from my pre-pregnancy weight and I haven't had much morning sickness so I can't blame it on that. I assume it will catch up eventually. I started 6 pounds heavier than with DD so maybe I'm just still getting to my baseline. My goal is not to go over what I gained with DD, but who knows how that will all shake out. As long as I'm eating healthy and not stressing out about it, it seems fine.

Rants/Raves?: Work is really stressful right now. I'm in management and 95% of the time, it's pretty easy and great. Right now it sucks. I've been dealing with personnel issues nonstop for over a week. I feel like I want to slam my head against the wall. I don't have the capacity to stress about work and my appointment on Thursday. I need to find a way to chill the EFF out.

How are you feeling?: I feel like my body is collapsing under all the stress. I've been MIA from here for about a week because I just can't handle life right now. I took yesterday off because my stomach was so upset, I'm pretty sure from the stress. Other than that I feel fine. The bloating has finally subsided a little bit. Hopefully after Thursday's appointment I will be able to breathe a little easier.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has.
There are so many that I love! The traditions are my favorite part about the holidays. One of my favorites is that we decorate our tree on Christmas Eve. The whole family does it together. We put on Christmas music, eat cookies, and laugh at all the ornaments we made as kids.
  • I wouldn’t worry about the weight at this point. Last pregnancy every time I went in I was up 1-3 lbs or down 1-3 lbs. if I had a change at all. This time I’ve already lost 9 lbs due to nausea and vomiting. My midwife has never mentioned my weight loss in either pregnancy.
  • @novelblessings the aversions and lack of appetite are my biggest issues right now too. At dang near 15 weeks I was hoping this would be gone by now. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

    Due date: March 7

Any appointments? Questions?: Just had an appointment on 9/6. Everything went great and we got to hear the heartbeat again! It was my husbands first time, so that was a great moment.

Rants/Raves?: Rave: MH is simply the sweetest when it comes to the baby. He constantly tells me I'm beautiful, brings me chocolate, and talks to my belly (I am not doing this yet haha, but he's 100% into it). He will be a great dad. Rant: I really wish we would have moved BEFORE I got pregnant. I'm usually so on top of everything, but we are moving this weekend and between that and my elevated role at work, I feel like I am driving the hot mess express. Haha.

How are you feeling?: Better. Exhausted, but we have a lot going on. Having some back pain and not sleeping well, but not sure if it's pregnancy or stress. Started back doing some stretching yesterday and that seemed to help. Planning on getting back in the gym now that the MS is disappearing.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. As a kid, it was participating in the Christmas play at church then driving the see the lights in our local park. One of my favorite days of the year (other than Christmas itself, obviously). MH and I have only been married for a little over a year and previously I spent the holidays with my family (he typically has to work), but I am really looking forward to starting traditions of our own :)
  • i'm such an airhead.... my appointment is TOMORROW (thursday). slightly disappointed because i was excited to go today, but what's one more day right?

  • @indigoheightsblog Oops! At least you didn't think it was a day later than it was and potentially missed it!
  • Due date: March 2

Any appointments? Questions?: Just had an appointment Monday. It was great hearing that heartbeat again and LO moving all around in there but my Dr. told me I have a UTI. I knew it (sigh). I hope the meds actually get rid of it, because they didn't do a lick of good when I had a series of them at the beginning of the year.

Rants/Raves?: Rave: My local Y is starting up a Mommy & Me exercise class and I am so excited for this. I haven't been to the gym in weeks because of fatigue but I am starting to feel a bit more energized now. The class is for moms to bring their little babies in carriers or for expectant mommies. I have been too chicken to go back to the boot camp class I was taking part in before pregnancy. This is perfect for me because I need the scheduled class to get me to the gym! ;)  Rant: My volunteering at DD's school is taking a toll and stressing me out. I'm VP of the home and school assoc. and next year I'll be in charge.... with a baby in tow. Ugh. All I can do is continue to tell people they better step it up and help me next year!

How are you feeling?: Besides the UTI and the school stress, I am so excited for cooler fall weather!

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. We had several growing up mostly centered around food and spending Christmas Eve with one side of the family and Christmas Day with the other side. MH are still trying to establish traditions with our kids. Moves and faraway siblings have made this difficult but we are starting to get some established. I always had fake trees growing up but we have had real ones the past several years. This year we are going to attempt a live tree that we can plant in the yard after Christmas. We hope to line one side of the yard with them over time. We always have Christmas morning at our house now that the kids are getting old enough to remember. Then we go do our visiting!
  • @bug_hunter I lost weight during the first and part of the second trimesters, and only gained 12 pounds total during my last pregnancy. If your OB is not concerned about the weight gain, I'm sure you are fine.
  • Thanks for all the responses on weight gain, everyone! I figured it wasn't anything to be too concerned about but I definitely feel better reading about other people's experiences.

I've read a lot of "what to expect your second trimester" articles and they all act like I should be noticing more dramatic weight gain now but I'm starting to realize that these are all written as broad generalizations. This line between first and trimester isn't as obvious as the articles always make it seem and experiences can be dramatically different!
  • Due date: March 8th

Any appointments? Questions?: Had one yesterday. No ultrasound but did get to hear the heartbeat finally, yay! The doc is pretty relaxed and doesn't consider me high-risk despite my age and the abnormal NIPT screening, which I find reassuring. Next appointment is the amniocentesis in 2 weeks, but I'm debating whether to actually do it. The doc said there's no medical difference whether we confirm the suggested abnormality prenatally or at birth (we've made it clear the result won't affect how we proceed with the pregnancy). Honestly, I'm just being a big wimp; I'm really scared of that needle  :s

Rants/Raves?: MH has gone to every single appointment with me so far. On one hand it's great (yay, rave!), on the other hand, the stubborn independent streak in me feels like he's taking over my pregnancy :# (he asks the doc way more questions than I do ha).

How are you feeling?: Nausea and fatigue are lingering, was hoping it'd let up in 2nd Tri. I think the lack of exercise is contributing, so will push to be more active.

GTKY: Name one holiday tradition your family has. Decorating the Christmas tree has always been a big event with my family. My dad would get a fire and Christmas songs going, my mom would make us all some hot chocolate (spiked eggnog once we were adults lol), and then we'd unwrap the ornaments and hang them one by one. Each ornament, collected through the years and some even passed on through generations, has a story behind it and it's fun to recollect these stories. Our tree is hardly one to display with all the mismatched ornaments, but I love it anyway  :)
  • @navete our tree has a mishmash of ornaments too! Themed trees are beautiful but there's something about a tree full of memories that has a special charm.
  • @navete, that's my H, except I don't mind. He is very analytical and tends to have very logical and interesting questions. The ultrasound tech at the anatomy scan said he asked questions she'd never been asked before!  :p   :D
  • edited September 2018
@bug_hunter I’ll echo what everyone else has already said. I really wouldn’t be worried about weight gain this early. My first pregnancy, I gained a total of around 20 pounds but the majority of it was in the third tri. I couldn’t believe how much I gained then- haha. I literally gained 5 pounds in one week without trying.

I have the same due date as you and I just weighed myself. I am 1.5 pounds heavier than I was at 8 weeks. So, I’ve gained very little and tend to fluctuate by 2 pounds anyway.  Remember, 15 weeks is still pretty early. If you’re like me during my first pregnancy, you won’t really start noticing until closer to 25/26 weeks.
  • @navete that’s how my tree was growing up too. And we’d do the same thing - everyone had to be home to decorate it together. DH and I tried themed trees for a couple years but since having the kids we have their handmade ones from school and others we’ve collected through the years. It’s not perfect but it represents our family and we love it!

  • @navete I would be scared too. Just remember, there are no bad choices, only the right ones for you and yours. Especially if your doctor says it doesn’t make a difference. I hope you can find some peace with whatever decision you make.
