Re: Bitchin' - week of 9/2

  • IV therapy was an hour and a half late for my GD test. I haven't eaten since dinner last night and I'm staaaaarrrvingggg!

  • @hkom I hope they didn’t have you drink the stuff and then were late.  Seem unacceptable either way:(
  • Ugh, that's the worst @hkom! Last time I went to the hospital (maybe a month ago?) they dragged it out for 8hrs because I was low priority & wouldn't let me eat or drink. Felt worse when I left than when I came in from the hunger!

@hkom thanks for the validation haha. I don't know why it has me so irritated, but here we are. Maybe we'll have breakfast for dinner. I hope you get something relatively yummy to eat soon too!
  • @hkom That is ridiculous! I feel like some hospitals just go at their own pace.
@morgantu I would be annoyed too. Can he make them for you for during the week?
  • @hkom- have to say, after catching up on the bed rest thread- I'm so impressed with your strength and humor in your situation. Your baby is one lucky little one to have such a strong mama. The GD test already sucks thanks to that foul drink, and even more so if you have to wait on it- I'm sorry your'e stuck on the hospital's crappy schedule.

@morgantu- I totally feel you on the pancakes situation. Not only because pancakes are like dessert for breakfast and there is nothing better, but to me, when someone says they're going to do something and then doesn't, it is such a pet peeve!

My bitch is that after doing a few hospital visits here, I've come to find out that it's pretty uncommon for husbands to be able to stay overnight in the recovery rooms after birth. It's possible if you have a single or family room (which cost extra, but not much, and everything else is covered by insurance) but there are only a small number of these, and you can't reserve them ahead of time. I'm freaking out at the thought of having my husband leaving so soon after birth, especially since the nurses often don't speak great English and he is definitely the stronger German speaker.

In the States, it's common practice for the husbands to stay overnight, no? As a FTM, I'm not sure if this is true or if I am basing it off of movies/TV shows I've seen...
  • @deutschmama as long as the post birth/recovery rooms are private partners can stay too. I don’t know how common a private room is, but the hospital I intend to deliver at says they only have private rooms. I think some of the bigger cities is where a room might not be private over here. I hope you can get a private room!

@deutschmama The Hospitals around here have (uncomfortable) chairs or sofas for your husband to sleep on. Do they not have those there? Also, how long do they keep you?
  • @deutschmama Thank you!  They finally got everything done and I got to eat, so I feel much better.  Plus my mom is bringing me outside food for lunch!

That is crazy they don't let husbands stay overnight!  I bet it's so much more stressful to you with the language barrier - I'm sorry.   It seems like it's the norm here.  Someone from security comes into my room every evening to see if a guest needs an overnight pass.

  • They let my DH stay overnight even though we had to share a room one night we were there. I think the expectation is someone stays with you. I’m sorry that might not be the case for you
  • @hkom I hear you on the disorganization/lack of respect for people's time in hospitals.  Last time I was in the hospital for a kidney infection I was in there two full days before a doctor came to see me.  They only came because I was threatening to just leave.  I was admitted through the ER so I saw a dr then, but didn't see another until I was discharged.

  • @kadeephd That's insane.  I at least see a doctor every day here, even if nothing is happening.  There is no telling when they will come to see me, sometimes they come in at 8 am and sometimes not until 8 or 9 pm, but that doesn't really bother me too much because I'm haven't really been having any issues.

  • @hkom @kadeephd it's also my pet peeve when people don't respect your time. I'm sorry these happened to you.

@deutschmama can you ask if they can make exception for your husband to stay overnight given the language barrier? I know some of the hospitals I've been to make exceptions in cases like this since it helps the staff too.
  • @echo-charlietango That is a brilliant idea!

  • @hkom ugh waiting on anything in the hospital sucks and it sucks worse as a provider to have to tell patients you have no idea when it will actually happen. I have a whole slew of responses and jokes but often you still feel a little helpless.

My bitch is that my son and I both woke up with a cold. My husband is out of town so no clue how this week is actually going to happen... ugh
  • Lost another IV!

  • @hkom Ugh! I hope the evening crew is talented and can get your new IV set with little hassle - FX!

@LLynde5 You have my sympathy! Taking a potty training toddler in public is so stressful! They always have to go at the worst time or they miss the toilet altogether. Can you have him take the receipt back and have them add the coupon? Usually, my store is pretty willing to adjust, if needed.

    @hkom I’m really sorry! Blown IV’s suck!

I can’t remember if I’ve already suggested or not. Some hospitals can place a midline IV. It’s not a central line and should last longer than a peripheral. Just a thought.
  • @Activebaby I'm not sure why they aren't doing that, but I suspect it may be because I'm not actually receiving anything though it?  But I honestly have no idea. Would that make sense? It just needs to be there just in case.

  • @katy0990 I would think they would give the 20%.  I sent them an email, so we will see? But to get the gift card I would have to return the diapers and add an item and I believe the sale has ended now.
  • @LLynde5 Sounds like you deserve an evening to yourself to shop solo!
  • @hkom I was clearly tired reading this last night because I thought you lost a 4 at first and was very confused. Haha.

Sorry about the iv status. My sister had to have one placed in her ankle once! She was dehydrated and her veins kept rolling.

Bitching about it being the first day of school for my kiddos and me having to spend it doing this retarded 3 hour glucose test. I feel so sick already and it hasn't even been an hour. UGH  :'(

@hkom I'm so sorry about you losing another IV! The worst!!

@texas_t sorry costco was closed :-( That's always frustrating to get your hopes up when you actually want to do something productive!!

  • Y'all have some really good bitches and it's only Tuesday! @hkom O.M.G. about your IV! I'd be so irritated! @ab_canada I'd complain to the company! That's so obnoxious!

My BF is minor regarding y'alls. Costco was closed yesterday so we didn't get our chest freezer. Booooo.
