Symptoms week of 8/20

Re: Symptoms week of 8/20

  • @baya5, that's interesting about the magnesium.  I take a prenatal vitamin, and at one point my doctor prescribed riboflavin supplements to supposedly help with my migraines, but I never noticed a difference.  I've always been prone to them, especially around my cycle, so I feel like they are mostly hormone-related rather than a deficiency.  I'll ask at my first appointment though!  I definitely don't want to take my sumotriptan that I have (I barely take it normally, usually try Tylenol and Advil first).

  • So I had strawberries in a baggie in the fridge at work. They had been in there since Monday and on top of a baggie of jalapeños. I took one bite of a strawberry and could only taste jalapeño. So gross.
  • Magnesium can be a total lifesaver, I have ancient minerals magnesium oil in a spray bottle and it helps so so much with crampy legs, headaches and sleep quality.
I wish there was a cure for crappy nights but this definitely helps, and is gentle enough that I don't have a medical sleep hangover the next day like over the counter meds always give me.. I read that magnesium is the unsung hero during pregnancy so I'm glad I invested
  • I’m Team Magnesium, too, after discussing w/ your doctor. It also helps keep things moving along.

The past 5 days, I have increasingly become tired, cramps, and hungrier than a hippo. I go from not wanting food to Level 10 hangry in moments. Bless my saint of a coworker who brought me Smoothie King today.
  • The cravings are hitting hard today.  I work for a food company that happens to own Snyders-Lance, the maker of my favorite honey mustard pretzel pieces.  I really had a hankering and a quick trip to the company store later, I have killed nearly half a bag.  Sigh.

  • @socks2819 we have a company store downstairs, but we have ZERO savory snacks. I'm 100% set on sweets but of course...I'm basically never craving sweet.

  • @MRDCle Ugh, we own so many snack brands (hello Pepperidge Farm!).  I'm so gaining a million pounds this pregnancy.

  • @socks2819 those are the best!!! That is dangerous to have such easy access to them!
  • @socks2819 I want goldfish now! We own several ice cream brands so I can see myself gorging in a few months if this pregnancy goes along like the last one.

Ha! Not me personally. I also work for a foods company and THEY own several ice cream brands. So our company store and cafeteria has ice cream bars and pints and stuff.

  • Goldfish were my primary craving during my last pregnancy! I was a special ed teacher and my assistants had to make sure there were always goldfish in our room for me, and they served them at my work baby shower!
  • @MRDCle @wearegroot Happy to hear we have happy customers! And OMG if we made ice cream, it would be all over.

@professormama I'm with you there, I'm not even eating junk but I still feel yucky like my stomach is sluggish and heavy, I think it's probably just because digestion is slowing down. So far it doesn't last very long, I'm armed with probiotic, digestive tea, and chlorophyll! Papaya enzyme chewables are so good for after eating complaints, can you get some? Mine were midwife recommended so they're safe
  • @professormama ugh, YES!!!! It sucks. Yesterday I ate half a burger and (I’m sorry, this is SO disgusting) I started coughing and straight up puked half the burger out into my hand with no warning. Didn’t feel nauseous or anything. My body is straight up rejecting half the stuff I put into it, and I’m nauseous after EVERY meal, whether I throw up or not.
  • Today’s cry: DH asked me if I want to go to the mall. My response? “But I’m too pimply to go to the mall. Pretty people go to the mall!” Cue instant tears.

Every time I whine about “not feeling pregnant” my symptoms get worse. My new, super fun symptom is puking after I eat. I wouldn’t call this morning sickness, because I am not nauseous before, it starts with coughing and I don’t feel better after. I feel TERRIBLE when I was usually feeling decent before. I think it’s just really awful reflux. I’ve alwas struggled with gerd but this is just gross and embarrassing. Add this to the constipation and fatigue. Yay
  • @sdelg09, bleh, that's absolutely no fun.  I'm hoping it doesn't reach that point with me.  I made food last night, was looking forward to it while I cooked, then took one bite and had to force myself to chew and swallow.  I only made it through about a quarter of it before I gave up.

Does your doctor offer any options for acid reflux/gerd that might help?

  • A weird symptom I had forgotten from my last pregnancy: my hands/arms keep falling asleep while I'm sleeping.  I wake up to pins and needles about nine times a night!  I know it'll get better once I start using the body pillow, but I can't do that to my poor husband just yet!
  • @sdelg09 omg that story reminds me of the last time I was pregnant. Puked soup into my hands. At least you caught it!! So gross though.
  • @Ellie433 That is the worst! I am so sorry. I had that with my first one. Hang in there. Mine eased up in the 2nd Tri and by the 3rd I was hardly sick at all.

I'm starting to feel the nausea in the mornings now, though it's very mild. My boobs are also now mildly aching and definitely filling out my bra a little more.

  • @ashtuesday Yes! I’ve been having that, too this time. I don’t remember that with my last pregnancy, but I got pregnancy induced carpal tunnel about halfway through, so I’ve been nervous about that happening (and even earlier) this time. Glad to hear it’s not just me.
  • A little over 5 weeks with the third-- feeling basically hungover, hungry but nothing sounds or tastes any good. I feel kind of nauseous but not as bad as I know it can get. Some cramping, lots of bloating, tingly boobs. This is how I felt with my last two pregnancies which makes me feel good mentally but definitely not physically.
  • So the rhinitis has started up.  Here's to nine months of not being able to breathe!

  • @wearegroot I didn't know that was a thing.. I've just healed my carpal and cubital tunnel and broken elbow just this spring... fingers crossed I don't get it all over again..  :(
  • @mamalineh, I just told my DH this morning that I feel hungover with this pregnancy :expressionless:.  So not fun!

  • @mamalineh @kangstadt I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!! It's so weird!!! I gave up alcohol the moment I found out, and some mornings you'd swear I went on a bender or something.

  • Oh pregnancy hangover is def real.  My normal symptoms plus DS waking me up at 4:45 and I feel like I'm back in my party days.

  • @sheknows6, @MRDCle, yep.  I had to get up at 6:30 with my nephew (I'm spoiled and my DS usually sleeps in til 7:30 or 8).  Now I feel like I got hit by a truck.

sdelg09  I shouldn't have kept reading after your "this is so disgusting" warning... I am reading the thread at work and just had to run to the bathroom because I got sick. I'm not going to be able to keep this pregnancy under wraps for much longer if I keep that up.

Also, I don't normally have that weak of a stomach. Especially not from just reading something. Maybe I'll take warnings a little more seriously from here on out. (But probably not.)
  • @kangstadt  I’ve been taking tums because I don’t think my usual meds are safe, but so far they aren’t working.

@chrissdee that’s awful and I’m so sorry! I never used to have a weak stomach before and now I do, so I understand.
  • sdelg09 totally not your fault, you did give fair warning! I just wasn't expecting myself to have that reaction.
  • Heard Whitney Houston's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" this morning. And it made me cry. Also, I have sudden TMJ pain on my left side from yawning all the time...

Same. @sheknows6 All same. Except instead of soda I got angry he didn’t zip the suitcase (we were traveling) and yelled at him to “zip it!”
  • I’ve been so emotional, which is definitely not me. We had kindergarten orientation last night and I almost burst out into tears. I did cry later that night. I’m so worried I’ll be an emotional wreck on the first day next week.
i also started crying on the phone when my kids eye doctor called to change their appt and told me they were seeing a different doctor this time (side note my kids have a genetic eye condition and their regular doctor specializes in it)
  • @wearegroot Thanks! I don't know why, but that makes me feel better lol.

  • I'm definitely on the puking train now! I hope it doesn't get any worse.

I have a pack of Medline emesis (vomit) bags from Amazon that I hope will be Lifesavers.

    Gross warning ;-)

I hurled publicly in the waiting room at urgent Care on Monday (actually there for what turned out to be lymphadenopathy...thanks pregnancy!) (I had an emisis bag at least though). Then again out of the blue after my snack last night (at home...but I didn't make it all the way to the toilet and started puking on the bathroom floor).

    Yup.
  • My sense of smell is so strong, I swear I can smell my boogers. It's an issue.

Also, every day I tell myself I'm going to cook a good dinner but every night on the way home from work my husband says, "Qdoba? Subway?".

...sigh... yes, bring home all the food.

So I'm going to be huge and broke.
  •  @molecularmolly when I was pregnant with DD I ended up puking while driving in rush hour on the freeway. Thankfully I had the foresight to grab a garbage bag and put in my lap being held open with the steering wheel. I didn’t get anything on me or in my car which was a nice surprise.
    this is my backup acct.
