Re: Questions 7/27

  • Anyone else get a weird ear pop when they swallow? Not intense at all but kinda weird considering I haven’t been swimming or on a plane recently. Doesn’t hurt and it’s in the left ear. It did it randomly for a few days but today it’s been all morning!  :#

  • Might be sinus related, @laurasauruss. Drink some fluids and take it easy, you might be on your way to a sinus infection.

@laurasauruss I’ve been getting that on and off, too. Also usually left ear. Or occasionally it will just feel stuffy/muffled. Usually goes away pretty quickly with drinking water. I notice it more when I’ve been doing lots of yoga down dog and forward bend type things. I assume it’s just an combo of the extra congestion and extra blood flow?

  • My left hand has been falling asleep on me while sitting at my desk. It did it Monday or Tuesday, and again today. I didn't have the issue at home yesterday. anyone experience this?

@sammierose464 carpal tunnel issues? I already have issues with it but when I’m pregnant it’s almost unbearable. Lots of tingling and my hand and wrist falling asleep.

  • @tlmill that's what I'm thinking it might be. It's happened while sleeping for a while now, so I have my chiro adjust it and it helps. I'm going tonight so hopefully it will help.
  • @sliztee ahhh crap. I have been feeling a bit congested but figured it was normal, though this time it's more phlegmy in the throat as well.
I see my midwife on Monday so I'll bring it up in case I still feel it. Thanks for the tip!!

I have a nerve disease and symptoms like this all along. My doc told me we retain more fluids in pregnancy so any pressure on our nerves in hands, etc. can results in numbness more easily. Fun!
  • @sammierose464 I got pregnancy induced carpal tunnel with my first two. I haven’t yet this time around, but I’m fully expecting it.
  • I had carpal tunnel when I was pregnant with DS. So far it's pretty mild but I'm expecting it to get worse.
  • When do you stop travelling? 3 hour trip away from home at 37 weeks? I've delivered my other two closer to 39 weeks but who's to say what this little one is planning.

  • @tropical1982 I don’t know! I’ve ended up delivering at 37 both times! Maybe your doctor can give some guidelines. I was about two hours from the hospital at 35 weeks with my daughter and I cleared it with my doctor first. But I was showing signs of preeclampsia at that point and wanted to make sure it was okay.
  • I'd be cautious at traveling at 37 weeks. Personally, I wouldn't want to be that far away after 35 weeks just in case. DH is even looking at some motorcycle trips 2-3 hours away mid-Sept and I'm not sure if I feel comfortable with him going (even if I stay home).
  • DH has a bachelor party 3 hours away when I'll be 36 weeks. Figured since he is driving, he can come home or cancel if I go super early
  • Yeah DH says he'll just haul ass on his bike back home. I told him no way for the one in Indiana (we're in MI) the first weekend of Oct (I'll be 39 weeks)
  • H has a 3-day conference about 2-3 hours away when I'm 36 weeks. He kind of wants to get out of it, so he's maybe going to use me as an excuse. Never know what can happen!
  • Also forgot to mention DH is presenting at a local conference about 1.5 weeks after my due date lol. As long as I don't go too late, I'm ok with it. Really, my mom will be there to help, and now he has a shorter work day (because who really works a full day at a conference?) and then he'd have more vacation to take with me and the baby later. It's always something he can back out of if I'm gonna be in labor then lol.
  • My doctor just wrote me out of a 2 week class I have in Boston for the next 2 weeks.. I'll be 32 and 33 weeks but its 3+hrs away (all interstate) and he said it isnt worth the risk of being that far away which I agree with. Granted I'm having twins so anything could really happen but that means that the farthest I'll ne comfortable going from now on is the in laws and there an hour and a half away.
  • I may be a little crazy, but i told DH that starting Labor Day weekend we are staying home... which i'll only be 32 weeks. Honestly i just don't want him to plan trips so that we have time at home to finish projects and not be stressed in the last few weeks of my pregnancy. I would be very nervous traveling a 37 weeks!
  • I am traveling by car 8 hours at 31-32 weeks. I should just be the passenger. My midwife said do it :) work conference that I want to be at.
  • My sprinkle is week 34 I think. I’m driving 2 hours to ct... and already regretting it.

We don’t travel much, but when we do we usually drive. We drove 5ish hours last week (27 weeks) and I thought it was fine. I was a little uncomfortable sitting towards the end of the drives, but overall felt good. Now, I just flew yesterday to my sisters which is a 1.5 hour flight at 28 weeks and I will say Im really glad I don’t have to fly again after I fly home tomorrow! I just felt crowded and like I didn’t have enough space. In general everything was fine, but it was really difficult to get to my back pack for my book, water, snacks, etc., and to get in and out of the seat when I had to go to the bathroom. The end armrests don’t raise which has never been a problem, but I don’t squeeze anywhere easily anymore! I’m really looking forward to just being home next weekend and the rest of the time until our little one is born.

ETA: all that being said, my doctor told me it was safe to travel (fly) until about 34 weeks and she wouldn’t recommend it after 36.

  • I really really wanted to go to this conference for work this year (would be next week when I’m almost 32 weeks) but I’m in Ohio and the conference is in Cali so it’s a lot of travel followed by 3 days of sitting in very uncomfortable chairs and lots of networking events standing in hot crowded rooms... I could go, but I don’t think I’d really enjoy it.
  • That doesn’t sound too fun at 32 weeks @lolo_0924!

My last trip will be at 31 weeks for vacation on the other coast, then I’m staying put. Missing recruiting in Boston this year  and a work trip to Barcelona. A little bummed but it is what it is!
  • A little late to this, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable being 3 hours away at 37 weeks either. With DS, I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about it, but then I unexpectedly went into labor at 36+6, so I’m glad I was never too far away. This time I’m going to be staying local much earlier than that just in case.

@spartan4life pro tip for flying - the end armrests usually do lift up, but there’s a button on the underside that you need to push at the same time as you lift in order to raise it. It’s a safety thing I think in case of emergency, but every plane I’ve ever been on has been like this.
  • @pumpkinpancake Thanks!! I tried to lift it and couldn’t get it, but didn’t know about the button underneath. It makes sense that they should be able to lift.

  • @spartan4life I’ve had too many flights recently that end up with me wearing a sleeping child in the boba carrier, and having the ability to lift the end arm rest and gently lower myself to sitting on the end of the aisle is a godsend when I’m tired of standing like that.
  • A little late but...SO went away for the weekend when I was 36 weeks with DS. He was 2.5 hours away. I was a nervous wreck but he was going no matter what. What made it worse was that he had no way to get back until Sunday afternoon (he was gone from that Wednesday) and he was trashed most of the weekend anyway. I got into a minor accident the morning he left, my dad had a stroke that same afternoon and my dr took me out off work due to health reasons. Let's just say I was a mess that weekend.

This year he wants us to go with him. I'll be 35 weeks that weekend.
