I think meal delivery kits are the dumbest trend ever. I tried it once and it was super expensive and came with about 10 ice packs and 3 pounds of plastic and boxes. I don't understand how enough people use them that there are 3 or 4 companies doing it and I have a theory that as soon as everyone in the country who can afford it tries it once they will all go out of business. The commercial where the busy single mom says it helps her stay on track is B.S. Order Dominos and buy a salad kit and call it a day.
Reasons they are stupid: 1) They are expensive 2) The portions are small and don't create leftovers 3) The recipes take 45 mins to make and are complicated 4) They create tons of packaging 5) If you like to cook you would have ingredients at home 6) If you have $ and don't want to grocery shop or cook like a real person just order food 7) They are stupid
I completely agree @greenhillgirl I have never tried one, but I have priced them out and they are ridiculously expensive. I’ve also seen some of the recipes and my kids would not eat anything like that.

@greenhillgirl@DLpanda08 I agree too! I did it once, and it was a lot of work and waste for a small amount of food. My husband won’t eat most of the recipes either, and the ones we got were barely enough to keep just him full, let alone both of us. Definitely won’t be trying again. If I’m feeling like I don’t have time or am not up to shopping I would just do grocery delivery and/or takeout.
We use the meal services about once a month (maybe less). We typically use Hello Fresh and have had good experiences. It is on the more expensive side and would not be practical for a family of more than 3. I go through and find recipes or meals that sounds good and will order it that week and skip the rest. Sometimes it's nice to have something different than the same old same old that we do every week. Although, the packaging drives me crazy! At first I liked the ice packs but now I have 5 million of them.
We use Home Chef every so often and really enjoy it. It gets us cooking things outside of what we normally trend towards and then we can remake the recipes we like the most. I will agree that the packaging is a pain, though!
I don’t trust people if my dog doesn’t like them. Both of my pups are super friendly and gentle, so if they choose to avoid you then I probably will too.

3D ultrasounds are super creepy (yes, I’ve had one). And no, that blobby photo of your baby in utero does not look like your husband.
Now I’m picturing a man who looks like one of those 3D ultrasound photos.
When my SIL was pregnant, a 3D ultrasound pic was passed around at her baby shower, and several people said the baby looked like my husband. DH was so offended. He said, “Is that really what people think i look like?!”

@greenhillgirl I'm with you on that. I was dogsitting at my friend's place for a week and he ordered me blue apron for those days (which was very kind of him). The recipes were actually pretty good but they still took a lot of time. I find it much less annoying to go grocery shopping than it is to do all the annoying prep work of chopping/grating/etc so it really provided no real benefit to me outside of the special circumstances of not being in my own home. I would never pay money for them on my own. On my lazy days I stop by the pizza shop on the corner and get a slice and a side salad for like 4 dollars.
I could see the appeal of the meal delivery kits if they did the prep work for you. I hate doing all the prep work while my toddler yells at me that she wants to help, but cooking allows me more flexibility to control ingredients so it fits my diet than ordering out.
I'm in agreement with the meal delivery kits -- I actually like to cook and they're still horribly difficult. We use an app/website called eMeals that creates recipes for you every week based on your diet (Paleo, Kid Friendly, Budget, Gourmet, etc) and then you can export the whole list or just a few as a grocery list and even send it directly through a grocery site (like WalMart Pickup or Kroger ClickList). It gets me out of recipe ruts and is pretty easy and affordable.
+1 to being confused about meal delivery kits. My husband wouldn’t want to eat any of it and it seems like a lot of work for minimal payoff.
And i agree re: 3D ultrasounds but also I don’t really understand why people want them at all. Maybe I can see how seeing the baby would help people “connect” more but it’s not like you’ll love it less if it’s ugly (if you’d even be able to tell on the u/s).
My UO is I think lifestyle blogging is weird and I don’t understand people who regularly follow and emulate the lifestyles of those people.
I hate when people set off fireworks. I live in a high wildfire risk area and there is a lot of dry brush around, it's not worth it.
I agree! Between wildfire risk, the risk of damage to homes/property, and the impact on combat veterans suffering from ptsd it just isn’t worth it. Why not just leave it to the professionals or watch on tv?

+1 on fireworks. I live in Utah. We already have a ton of fires going on and so it's just not worth it. My kids love it and my husband loves it. I just get annoyed. Especially after a certain hour. (which is like 10 for me. Lol) I'm the crotchety old lady that yells at kids to get of her lawn. SNS.

I live in Utah, too, and it is so dry, even in the neighborhoods. We had a fire truck in front of our house last night because my neighbors accidentally lit their bushes on fire. Luckily the fire department put it out before it spread to their house or to ours.
@sparkymcgeee I’m that way too. After about 9pm I don’t want to hear loud noises in the neighborhood and I have zero guilt reporting people to the HOA for pulling that kind of crap.

Totally agree on the meal kits! My BIL and SIL use one pretty regularly and whenever we have a meal from their kit with them it takes forever to make and I'm starving by the time it's ready. If you want to replicate the meal there are usually lots of expensive ingredients you have to buy, so I'll just stick to meal planning and the good old grocery store, thank you very much.

You can give them all to me! Hahahaha I put small ones mostly on DD but she does own a couple of big bows. She had no hair until recently so the bows actually worked out well for us. I think they’re cute but understand that they’re not for everyone!
I liked the newborn stage a lot more than the toddler stage.
Oh man, my toddler is crazy, but I’ll take it alllll day over the newborn stage.
I think it’s because I got more down time with a little baby. With my toddler, she’s always there talking to me, touching me, wanting to see what I’m doing, and I have to have an eye on her at all times. I’m very introverted and so I find it 12 hours a day (or 14 if she doesn’t nap) of that overwhelming. Plus she was a crappy sleeper so lack of sleep was not confined to the newborn stage.
I liked the newborn stage a lot more than the toddler stage.
I have to say, I disagree. I feel like pregnancy and the first 6 months to a year of the baby’s life is the price I pay to have children. I like kids way more than I like babies.
I fireworks! I don't think they should go off at all hours of the night but if it's the 4th of July or new Year's I expect to hear and see fireworks all day and until 11. Because let's face it. It doesn't get dark until 10. Yes we have dogs. They don't care. It's two days a year.

Serious question: why the eff do people set off fireworks in broad daylight? What's the freaking point of firing something you'll barely be able to see?
I'm ok with some personal fireworks (within a reasonable ~830-930 window) as long as people aren't complete morons about it. Our neighborhood has narrow streets and tons of trees, so shooting of fireworks by us would be dumb (and pointless). Likewise anyone living in a drought/ fire - prone area. But there are plenty of wide open neighborhoods where it shouldn't be an issue (again, as long as people aren't morons about it).

The problem (at least where I live) is that people don’t keep it to just the day of the holiday and they don’t keep it to reasonable times. We have fireworks and celebratory gunfire for about a week before and after any major holiday sometimes even at 2am. It’s ridiculous.
I love the fireworks shows at Disney and professional ones, but I don’t trust people in general not to be complete idiots with explosives.

YES. I loved the newborn stage and baby stage. Not to say it was easy, but I loved it. I felt like everyone hyped up how hard it would be to the point that I expected a newborn to be utter misery, but for me it just wasn’t at all.
The toddler stage, like 14 months to 2 1/2, was brutal. It’s hard to do anything, you never get a break, you have to watch them every second. My husband and I argued more than we ever had during that time. I am dreading doing it again. In my opinion, three and now four have gotten sooo much easier.

I cant imagine how bad it must be for veterans. Last year, we had 2 instances of gunshots near our apartment (and we dont even live in a bad area). The first night I heard people setting off fireworks, I had to ask my husband to make sure it was fireworks and not gunshots again. Still freaks me out a little bit every time I hear noises like that from outside. But for veterans with real PTSD, its probably really bad.
@sarahsaurus-2 it’s awful. My brother is a combat veteran with severe PTSD from his time in Afghanistan. He specifically works the night shift and volunteers to work holidays so he is less likely to be home when the fireworks go off.

@galactickates, I love fireworks, too. I don't like amateur ones, though. They're usually not impressive and they're super dangerous, but firework shows are awesome. I used to live in Pittsburgh, and they set fireworks off seriously all the time.

I totally agree on the meal kits!! We tried Blue Apron twice, only liked 2 of the overall 6 recipes, even though they looked good on paper. For each meal I had to add more of my own veggies, since they don't give you much at all, and I found that I had 80% of all the ingredients in the house anyway, and I wouldn't mind going to the store for those other few exotic ones. My own recipes are more healthy anyway. The price was $10/serving, and if I'm going to pay that much for a meal, I would rather spend a few extra bucks and go out to eat or do take-out and have someone else do all the work, make it even better, and not have to clean up.
@kns1988 same! It really doesn’t bother me. I know he can’t physically be pregnant but I figured people know what we mean. We’re expecting [a baby together].

Yes! Sounds like you live in my neighborhood lol. Almost all of my neighbors set them off in their driveways or in the street literally right in front of my house, so they go off right in front of my kids' windows. Goes on all night, and multiple days. :eyeroll:
