Re: July Randoms

  • I have a quick and SUPER random question. Might also be TMI. Lol. I am in desperate need of a new nursing bra that is supportive for large breast. Any suggestions? I am over the three flimsy ones I purchased from Target that offer me absolutely ZERO support. I definitely need it!

  • @DDRRT1982 if you plan to take pain meds, make sure you stay on top of them around the clock or you'll never catch up to the pain. But those 7 pounds probably will come off!
  • @fullofhope25 I think I've read places like Nordstrom you can buy a normal bra and they can alter it into a nursing bra.

  • fullofhope25  I bought two nursing bras at Motherhood Maternity that I like. One is an underwire that looks great, I must say, but isn't comfortable enough to wear all day. Good for date night. I think it's actually the demi, but I'm not sure.
The other is this "seamless" one. It is supportive enough for day to day activity and still comfy. It comes in plus size, too. It also comes in "full busted," but I'm not sure which one I have.

  • DH gets up at 6 or 7 am with V. Usually she's ready to be up by then and he's too tired to deal so he lays on his side in a curve around her on the futon and lets her play with her feet and his shirt and whatever. I guess she's not as loud as other babies. I'm always like "Awww" and simultaneously  "God, that is NOT safe sleep habits aaaahhh."

  • Got them out today.  I surprisingly feel well.  My top don’t even hurt, but they were all the way in and it was probably more like an extraction.  My bottoms were mostly in, just crooked, so they are more sore.  I definitely anticipated it being worse.  Staying on top of my meds has helped.

i don’t really use nursing bras anymore. I just pull my boob out of regular bras and don’t have an issue.  However, when I did buy some nicer looking ones I bought motherhood ones.  They lasted a very long time and looked like normal ones.

  • Vinny gets her second round of shots today. :(

  • I just weighed Samantha and she is already 17.5 lbs.  She’s growing so fast!  My other daughter was chubby, but Sam is probably two pounds heavier than her at the same age.
  • Well, I officially failed the glucose tolerance. However, my fasting number was in normal range but my 2 hour was 2 points from the top of being prediabetic and I have been working really hard at losing weight and eating better. Now I have to take it again to confirm the results which is the worst thing I have ever heard. That stuff is SO nasty.

  • Okay so I'm super confused about starting solids. When do I offer him food? Like every meal? Just in the morning/evening? I'm so lost!

So sorry @megpeg.  I am sure if you keep working on your health you can improve the results.  You can do this!

@sgrn18  I always offer real food at dinner because we always eat dinner together as a family.  Otherwise, I just offer foods when they are appropriate and available. I go by the philosophy that food is for fun until one, so I don’t really stress out about doing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the baby.  The next few months are about trying things vs nutrition for us because BM will still be her primary source of nutrition until one.

  • @DDRRT1982. Thank you! I was thinking just starting at dinner and working my way around to other times. We are still BF and pumping so I'm hoping to make it to a year too! So far my supply is steady. I'm hoping I can keep it up.
  • I'm waiting until 6 months to introduce solids. I did that with my first as well after reading about the virgin gut theory (and I figured worst case it wouldn't hurt to wait till then).

I used the site below a lot for ideas/info about making your own baby food. Personally I just kept it very simple for what I 'made' (mashed sweet potatoes, avocado, banana, etc.). Sweet potatoes mashed up where what we gave my first as her first food. When she was old enough, I'd give her shredded cheese as a snack.

I went on a pinning spree last night bc I haven’t had solid food for two days.  We are going to have all the yummy recipes, lol!
  • so sorry @megpeg I've been thinking of you.

Dr visit was bad b/c baby wanted to eat and sleep, so she was fussy when pedi was examining her and screaming by the time he left the room. We had to give a bottle *before* the shots. Then those were bad too, of course.

Then last night was a train wreck. She kept waking up, I couldn't find the baby tylenol bc DH put it "away". Then when he could find it, he couldn't find the syringe. Then when he found that he pumped all 3ml in her mouth at once and she freaked, gagged, then spat it all out. The second time, before I could stop him DH did the exact same thing with same results. at that point we didn't know how much she had swallowed and didn't want to force the issue but she def had a low grade fever and was unhappy.

UGH thank you for letting my rant. Today I got tylenol in her when she woke up and she's been a little fussy and very low energy, but no fever.

  • @megpeg, Best of luck with the follow up! My FIL was diagnosed diabetic two years ago but changed his diet (he now mostly follows a keto diet) and started going on hikes regularly and kicked its butt. I’m sure you will too!
@fatstagnation, I’m sorry LO had a rough couple days! The shots suck for some babies. But baby Tylenol and lots of snuggles and she’ll be ok in a couple days.
@sgrn18, our pedi is pretty specific with solids- only introduce one new food at a time and give it about 3-4 days before introducing another. That way, if baby has a reaction, you’ll know which food triggered it. I spoke to the pedi last week about when to introduce solids and allergens. Since none of the rest of the family has an egg or peanut or wheat allergy, she recommended we keep doing only the grains (cereal, oatmeal) until 6 months then start solids. I think we discussed solids earlier in this thread pretty thoroughly- but what I found from that discussion is that there’s a lot of different advice and methods available. Some people do baby led weaning. Others introduce earlier than 6 months. Some do it later. There’s no real right answer to how to feed your baby, except just to make sure they’re fed and happy. :)
  • @fatstagnation hope LO is feeling better today.
  • @maelily15 yeah we got the same information from our pedi.  I wanted to avoid the cereals but at the same time he looks interested in my food. I caved and tried the rice cereal in breastmilk last night.  At first he didnt get it, like he thought it should be a bottle but it was a spoon lol but after a bit he calmed down and did surprisingly well with it.  I'll call that a win for now!

@fatstagnation same for our LO. He did fine with the 2month shots but the 4month shots he had a fever and was really fussy.  The fever lasted about 36 hrs but tylenol worked well.   Hope its better today!
  • thanks everyone! Vinny is a lot better today. sleeping a little more than usual but otherwise herself.
