@bntfroggie How old is your DD? We are keeping DS in his room, but slowly moving all of the nursery stuff out. We’ve involved him in process of picking new stuff for his room.
@cdepperschmidt She was 2 in April. She will be 2.5 when new baby gets here. I'm not sure why I'm so stressed about the new room. I decided tonight we will take apart the guest bed and move it to the basement and I think somehow that will give me some peace of mind.

SS was super excited to move, but he's 6. He got to move to our upstairs bungalow and so it seems huge and private. The only thing I hate is that it gets hot up there. So he has a fan. But it's only hot in the summer and hee doesn't sleep there often.
We haven't bought anything yet. I have it all picked out and in the cart, just holding off another couple weeks. We have the donation place coming to pick up the random junk we need to get rid of then it'll be empty. But we're leaving for a few days mid-month, so I don't want to take the chance of something showing up while we're gone. So going to wait to order until we get back.
Also, even though we're planning on moving around the first of the year, I'm still going to set up the nursery. Just because I'm going to want to nest, and this is my first time, and I just want to do it, dammit.
@bntfroggie It’s all very stressful! I try to come at it from the thought that having a new baby will be a huge change for DS (2.5 now, almost 3 when baby comes) and so I want to keep anything I can the same for him.
@cdepperschmidt and @bntfroggie DD is about 2.5 and we've moving her in with SD. I'm starting to get really stressed about the change, about her giving up her room and nursery furniture to the baby and about SD's willingness to share her room. We're going shopping for new bedroom furniture for them tomorrow and trying to let both SD and DD have a say in the decor to ease the transition. We've also been talking up how exciting the change is for them. Hopefully it goes smoothly for everyone!
Mylitta I feel like you've summed up real life parenting perfectly! We have expectations and then life comes along and you go with it! For my DS, we were in a 1 bdrm apartment, so he got a crib in the corner. This time, we're in a house, but we got pregnant THEN started the Reno to add the bdrm. I was SOOO excited to have a "real nursery" this time, and now I'm like, "we just need texture/paint up and carpets in before we put up the crib". Oh and there's a door that needs to become a window...lol. Oy Vay!
Nursery is not near done BUT we finished DS (2.5) room transition today so I want to share pictures. Hopefully, we will have time this summer to paint the dresser a different color and get new curtains, but other than that it’s done! The glider will also go into the nursery, but we still use it.
So envious of all of the nurseries. H and I are in kind of a stalemate with space and where the baby will be. He has a weight bench in the perfect baby corner of our bedroom and he’s really resistant to moving it because he works from home and taking short breaks to lift periodically is sometimes the only time he gets to work out..
On the other hand it’s the perfect space for the kids stuff/crib etc—otherwise it’s going to have to be in the living room in a separate corner and we will have to get rid of bookshelves etc. The weight bench really doesn’t fit into that space.
I feel like he needs to just give up the weights but I also don’t want to discourage him from staying in shape. I just wish we had more space I guess.
Yesterday DH built Gs dresser and today he made shelves (he took the wood crates from Michael's and used his torch). The shelves might get rearranged when we get everything together, but their main purpose is for diapers.
I had the idea, but hadnt mentioned it to DH yet. At lunch he told me he needed to go to the craft store for something. When he showed up with those I was excited because we had the exact same idea.
Came home from a wknd away and my MIL painted the nursery for us! She is seriously the best. I wish i had a before picture...it was a dark mauvy-gray. The room is quite small so I wanted a light colour to brighten it up and make it feel bigger.
Next step is to rip out the gross carpet and lay laminate. Build the furniture and get the wall art up! Still so much to do!!
I want stuff in the nursery so the dogs can get used to the change gradually but I am not sure dh will set anything up until it is panted and he will be doing that early August when I am out of town for work. Ugh. I want to nest and get over the shock of baby stuff on our main level of the house!
@SweetSweetTooth I know exactly what you mean. We cleared out the nursery (which I am still mourning as my late office) last week and shoved everything into our guest room which is now unusable. I want to push my husband to paint so I can start arranging stuff but it’s our first summer in our house and we’ve been busy every weekend with stuff. It’s so much less exciting to get baby stuff when you have to shove it in a full room!
I’m trying really hard to not just empty my library into the rest of the house to make the nursery. I’m afraid if I do that, I’ll never get organized again....
@sammierose464 The new crib looks great, and I love the shelves!
Everyones nurseries are coming along so well!
DH and FIL have been working all day on the nursery to put up crown molding that they just had to have. The room previously had crown molding when it was my walk-in closet, but I told them we didn’t need it and it would just be easier to remove it...but they insisted. After working on it for the past 5.5 hours I just heard them give up and rip it all down. I hope this is the end of it and they will just agree to finish the rest of the room so we can build the furniture and set everything else up. Plus, I’m tired of contrinuing to buy pieces of crown molding just for them to cut them wrong and have to go buy more. Next weekend is the last open weekend we have until Labor Day and I really want to have the furniture boxes out of our living room sooner rather than later.
@jennybean80 They gave it up! FIL texted DH and is still trying to get him to try again tomorrow but we both said no. All they have to do is paint the bottom trim and the top where they had to do some patching. Then they have to hang the new ceiling fan and they will be done!
We need to put new blinds in there, but now we are debating about blinds or curtains. What do you all plan to use? I worry about him pulling down the curtains when he gets older, but DH likes the idea of curtains better. I am planning to go look at cordless blinds tomorrow. Thoughts?
@spartan4life our nursery had cordless blinds installed already. We definitely need some curtains (hopefully blackout curtains) in addition because the blinds don’t darken the room too much. I suppose you could get some blinds that are blackout or the equivalent if you are looking to control the light coming in a lot.
@spartan4life and if I’m being honest I want curtains for decorative reasons too. I’m a ftm, but I did see somewhere along the way room darkening/blackout curtains can make putting the baby down for a nap easier. Not sure if this can be corroborated by some STMs.
@spartan4life - there are cordless blackout shades and blinds. You just have to look for them. I plan to do valences instead of curtains because I’m also concerned about Blast pulling them down when xe gets okder.
Re: AW: Nursery thread
For the dinosaur fans I saw this and had to throw it on my registry.

DH built the crib while I was at my glucose test.

@sliztee that's adorable
