@runsomewhere the butt test?? Yikes! I was always tested in the vagina for GBS, not the butt. How uncomfortable!

  • Loading the player...
  • Yup, it was vagina+butt. It was super quick but the cotton felt super uncomfortable!
  • @runsomewhere so many images running through my mind with your description lol i never got the GBS test (i think) with DS since it was a planned c section. I’d think i remember a q-tip at my butt. Idk if I’ll get it this time.
  • @runsomewhere "comin' at your butthole" lol. At my midwives office the second time around they let me do my own! Much preferable to the first time when a male doc swabbed me.

@MichelleAG05 and @rachelsogo you guys are making me scared for my 3hr road trip this weekend! I have been fine for the 45min to 1.5 hr trips I've taken the last couple weeks...

@runsomewhere glad I read this thread so I can be prepared for a butt hole swab on Friday! I'm pretty sure she mentioned GBS testing, but I just assumed it was in the vag along with cervix check!

  • @MrsMiller8588 It wasn't toooo horrible to be honest! Bring lots of snacks and drinks. I had a tennis ball to lean my back against (have had a pinched nerve back there for weeks) and compression socks for my already swollen feet. My H doesn't like to stop on road trips so we didn't, but stopping and getting out to walk around once or twice probably would've been nice.

  • @runsomewhere At my clinic they let you swab yourself which I'm glad to know, but I didn't know before I went in last week. Since H comes with me to my appointments, I had already warned him what would be taking place at the appointment. LOL. I told him he could leave the room if he wanted when they got to that part. Turns out I am was "fortunate" enough to be able to skip the whole thing. Apparently the GBS showed up in one of my earlier urine tests when they thought I had a UTI, so bummer I'll have the antibiotics during labor but bonus that I didn't have to q-tip my butt.
  • @gingerbride26 I had a horrible poo scare too, i wiped and there was blood, like a lot, and then I realized it was coming from my BUTT not my vagina so while still not ideal, not indicative of labor. I also have a hard time distiguishing between ninja baby and contractions, especially when he's totally breech instead of transverse and all the big movements are low in my pelvis (hopefully no more of that soon!).
  • I have the hardest time distinguishing between movement and contractions! I have to feel around my belly and figure out where exactly it’s hard. Plus she’s started pushing away with her arms reaaaaally low (hoping it’s her arms) which makes me really crampy with horrible back pressure that reminds me of labor. Three more weeks of this sounds miserable.

All that butt q-tip talk was hilarious! My MW only swabbed the vagina, thankfully- she used a sponge not a q-tip, and that would have been terrifying.

I’m so jealous of everyone who can willingly be done with car rides!! I still commute 1-1.5 hours each way, 3 times a week. The other two days I still have to drive 30 mins each way to my appointments. sometimes the motion of the car gets baby moving and I feel all the pain and pressure in my vagina and bladder and cervix
and even rectum the entire time. It sucks!

Funny, with my son I knew the GBS test involved a swab of the vagina and butt, but I specifically remember it being so quick that I didn’t feel anything at all - in either hole! We’ll see how it is this time.

Re cervix checks, so I assume my midwife group doesn’t really do them until due date, but I know I’m a different circumstance since they’ll be recommending induction between 39 and 39+6 for medical reasons, and they also know how badly I want to avoid pitocon. So one midwife said they could do a membrane “massage” at 37 weeks, which I assume would involve checking for dilation. I think what she meant was massaging the cervix to try to encourage dilation, and then maybe the next week if I’m dilated enough they’d do the actual sweep. They’re on board with trying to help me get nice and dilated and ripe and maybe even contracting starting at 38 weeks but that’s only because of the medical need for induction. I guess I’ll have to ask more about it this week and get more details.

I don't know if this should go as a symptom or dumb things people say.. but I was outside at the neighbors just now letting the dogs play and my other neighbor walked over and says "your ankles are SO puffy. You should he careful, when mine looked like that I had toxemia and they gave me 4 hours to deliver my baby before an emergency c section".

So that was not helpful and I was thinking my swelling was normal with this insane heat and now she has me freaked out...

  • @SmashJam i have digestive issues on the regular and have been known to leave the bathroom looking like a murder scene on bad BM days...so both times i've spotted during pregnancy the first thing out of my husband's mouth is "are you sure it's not your ass?" lol why yes I did specifically check with TP where the blood is coming from...
@MrsMiller8588 that is incredibly unhelpful :( I'm sorry. I'm a little puffy today from being on my feet a lot this weekend entertaining DD while DH continues the kitchen demo.  I've read before it's morning puffiness that's concerning or sudden drastic uptick - afternoon/night swelling is probably normal if you've been on your feet all day.

@gingerbride26 well I'm definitely still puffy in the morning, but not nearly what it is at night... and I was on my feet a lot this weekend, but I just sit at a desk all day besides the bathroom and water and food trips. I told DH I wasnt worried about it unless I get other symptoms going on. But I will bring it up on Friday at my appointment to try to get a better definition of what would be considered excessive.

  • @MrsMiller8588 I think that sounds smart.  I had similar issues with DD working at a desk and sitting so much - since feet were still DOWN and I wasn't moving had the same pooling/puffy issues as standing.  I also find after a particularly strenuous weekend it takes a couple days to go back to 100% normal.  If you can use a trashcan or box to elevate your feet it should help.  This pregnancy I've been mostly working from bed and the elevated feet have been SO helpful.

  • +1 to a ninja baby in there. I can tell it's not contractions, but she's strong and pushes so hard sometimes it really hurts!

  • Earlier this night i had the worst pain/cramping i couldn’t even lay down. I woke up to pee upon getting back in bed i couldn’t lay on either side because my whole lower belly, hips, and legs hurt so bad. Idk if the baby just got in a weird position or what but gosh it was a painful few mins. Everything radiated from my belly. I got on all 4s and it slowly went away but now I just feel a bit sore and cramping. Never experienced anything like it.

@flockofmoosen3 I’m 37 weeks and have another appointment tomorrow where I’ll get checked for dialation again. We’ll see if I stay the same for a couple weeks or if I progressed more. I’m honestly torn. Part of me just really wants to get this baby out, and it feels like the baby might just pop out between my legs at any moment already. And the other part of me really needs the baby to stay put for 3 more weeks so that my DH can be present for the birth.

@wildtot ouch! I’m happy the pain subsided and you were able to lay back down. That would’ve freaked me out momentarily also. Maybe drink lots of water today and see if it doesn’t happen again.

The third trimester is throwing me for a loop. Every cramp and “pop” makes me question if I’m about to start labor.
  • @emsnedds seriously pooping has been a really challenge lately and very questionable if it’s labor.
  • Baby has not been moving as much. Still
moving just not as much. So of course I am worried.

@zande2016 I'm jealous too of those who can be done with car rides. My commute home is 1.5 hours (if traffic is normal). It's gotten a little better since we are done with school here. Definitely uncomfortable by the time I get home at night.
  • Having tons of swelling in my feet and also having a hard time distinguishing contractions vs baby movements.  So frustrating!
  • nimmlenimmle member
@zande2016 @kc1293 I am also jealous of those done with their commute. I take a bus and an uber every day to and from work. In the morning it's quick (about 30-45 min depending on traffic), but in the evening the bus schedules are different because of when I leave so sometimes it can take up to 1.5 hours. 3 more weeks until I start WFH.
  • @elizabethrn87 have things changed? Hope baby woke up, are you planning to go in?

  • @elizabethrn87 have things changed? Hope baby woke up, are you planning to go in?

No she still isnt moving much. So this has been like 3 nights /days worth. I go I. For a sono at 11:40. When I called yesterday they kind of made me feel silly since I can feed her move some. But then I went to sleep since I had worked all night and I got up at 5. She moved a little yesterday but still no where what she normally does. Then I’ve been up since 2 AM worrying and she is barely moving. So I called again this morning when they opened.
  • I can’t imagine having that long of a commute for work . I float to different hospitals but my drive is 45-60 min . And I get compensated for that. But I would have a hard time living in a larger city so I guess that’s one of my perks of living In small towns ?

@elizabethrn87 I'm sure baby is totally fine just probably running out of room a bit. However, as everyone always says give your doc a call if you're worried. I've done it a couple times and it's nice to have the peace of mind.

EDIT-  I didn't notice your update. I'm glad you called. I'm sorry they made you feel silly. I would have firmly told them that you're following the standard advice on decreased/changed movement and that you don't appreciate the attitude.

  • Don't feel silly, I'm glad you're going. Better safe than sorry. Some babies are generally more active than others and things change day to day but only you can tell if something is off. Hope the US looks good, keep us posted!
  • @elizabethrn87 Follow your gut and do not feel silly. I had decreased movement around 37 weeks with my DS. Even though they kept saying everything was fine, I went back every two days for a NST. When he was finally born, he had knot in his umbilical cord. I don't want to worry you...he was perfect and everything was fine with him but I followed my gut instincts despite how the nurses were making me feel and I've never regretted it. I'm sure everything is fine...baby is likely just running out of room BUT it's ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. Just try to relax until your appointment....it'll be nice to have a peace of mind  :)<3

SAME GIRL! ^^^^^ I keep running to the restroom like "is this it? is this it?" I'm so confused.
  • Add me to the boat of still commuting. Takes about an hour each way in the worlds worst traffic in LA. By the time I get to my destination my back is killing me and I’m moving like a slow turtle trying to walk to my office. I keep hinting at possibly working from home at least 1-2 days a week but my boss doesn’t get it. I’m going to see if my midwife will give me a letter or something. I can’t imagine commuting like this 5 days a week for 4 1/2 more weeks. My worst fear is going into labor early and be stuck in bumper to bumper traffic with nowhere to turn.
  • @krystlerr sorry about the commuting nightmare! Remind me, are you taking any time off before baby? What about a letter from the doctor to convince your boss?

  • @krystlerr definitely see about a note! I'm sure my traffic isn't as bad as yours, but I deal with NYC traffic which also sucks! It's an hour WITHOUT traffic, so with traffic its been 1.5 hours on average lately, but sometimes 2 hours, each way. Right now I work from home 2 days per week because I have to go to twice weekly non stress tests. By 37 weeks my midwife thinks I should stop commuting - what if I went into labor and was having painful contractions, and was 2 hours away from my hospital, which could easily be 3 hours with traffic? I'd have to have someone come pick me up, I couldn't drive if I was in active labor, and it would take someone over an hour to get to me...it's just a bad idea overall. Nevermind the pain and swelling and discomfort of all that driving. I plan to let her know when I reach 37 weeks that my midwife wants me to stop commuting, and if she gives me any issues, I will get a note to back it up. Under NYC anti-discrimination laws, she legally has to give me the accommodation to work from home. Maybe see if your city or state have something similar.
  • This is the thread where we were discussing cervix checks, no? Can't remember haha. Anyway, just wanted to update, I asked if they do cervix checks at my practice and the midwife said not usually as they see no need, but they can if I want them to, starting at my GBS swab on Friday at 36 weeks. I explained I don't necessarily care about getting one at 36 weeks, but the head midwife had mentioned she could sweep or massage my membranes at 37 weeks, and since I'm trying to avoid medical induction, was that still an option...she said yeah sure, as long as GBS comes back negative, they can try to do a sweep starting at 37. It seems kind of early for a sweep but I guess when you're looking at a 39 week induction its not so early.
  • kc1293kc1293 member
@krystlerr - Yup mine is Houston traffic! Bleh. I definitely move a lot slower getting out of the car. I won't be requesting working from home though. My office is actually closer to the hospital than my house. But +1 to seeing about getting a note!
  • So many BH today, along with day 2 of horrible hip pain. I remember when my son dropped and not experiencing any of the same signs that would indicate baby girl has dropped yet. Also probably TMI but also on day 2 of so much throbbing in my vagina.
  • Getting the “gonna poop the baby out” feeling again. So much pressure!
