@babygagnon2018 I only tore with my first birth (2nd degree tear with only a few stitches). I had an epidural and didn't feel any of it and felt like my recovery was pretty easy. I don't think you hear about episiotomies much anymore unless it's absolutely necessary. They should absolutely talk to you about it before they do it though.
@acunamatada yes, the pushing on your uterus to make it go back down is what I mean. I guess the amount of pain that comes with it varies from person to person. I think the contractions with breastfeeding those first few days/weeks is worse. And it definitely has gotten worse with each baby. I stay on top of the Motrin after birth just because of those!

@lindsayleigh1989 thanks for posting the birth announcement thread (OMG!!!) Question, I see it says "please share your birth story as a separate thread if you are comfortable doing so" so no talking about the actual birth/delivery in that thread? I'm kind of confused about that. Shouldn't we be able to post as much or as little info about the birth/baby in the birth announcement thread?
@runsomewhere honestly i just copied and pasted the one I saw in the other bmb's and didn't read it over haha I can take that out. That does seem weird
I kind of agree with @runsomewhere - it feels redundant to have a birth announcement thread and then more threads with birth stories... Could we not post birth stories in the announcement thread?
Maybe the threads just need to be titled differently to avoid confusion. I think a separate birth story thread is good because usually, people don't have time to sit down and type the whole story out right after birth but still want to share right away that their baby is here, a picture, and the stats like weight, length, etc. So maybe a, "My Baby is Here!" thread (I'm sure someone could come up with a more creative name!).

Thanks Sarafuss! Ugh tearing and stitching- my biggest fear. Did you guys tear naturally or get an episiotomy? Deff adding that to my list of questions for tonight too.
I tore naturally with my first and did not with my second. The second labor was faster.
This is the opposite of a TW...for a glorious 10 minutes today, I bumped on the porch with my feet up while DS played on the deck with his blocks and didn't require my attention or input, other than making sure he was not being a dick to the dogs.
Yesterday was really hard - DD was SUPER clingy and throwing tantrums all day/night, but only for me. She was fine until I got home but then cried if I wouldn't carry her, etc. It was overall a very trying and emotional day. This morning was better, but only in that the crying only last 5-10 minutes instead of 30.
DH just sent me a little animation of DD giving me a big hug with a message "Sometimes it's nice to be needed so much". So now I'm crying at my desk.
@SmashJam so glorious! I'm sitting in the sun now after the dentist while waiting for my ride to pick me up. Nice to break up the work day. @MichelleAG05 awww that is so adorable!
Two things: I love cleaned teeth but I hate the cleaning process so much. Ugh. And my gums aren't doing that well...
Secondly, I'm ready to have a second car. I hate to bug the VW guy again but it's been 3 weeks since we put the deposit down and this mama needs an estimate of when we can expect the car!
I am 100% incapable of keeping up with the Randoms, but I have a PSA:
If your baby/toddler gets attached to a lovey, buy all the extras! One of my twins is madly obsessed with his JellyCat elephant (called “Mouse”) and tonight at bedtime he refused to drink his sippy cup of milk until my DH walked him around the house to track down Mouse. He just kept saying his name over and over with a sad look on his face until he found him, then when they found him, he broke into a big grin, exclaimed “Mouse!” happily and gave him a kiss before setting in to drink his milk and finish the bedtime routine.
We have two Mouses, and I rotate them regularly but they are discontinued. My worst nightmare is losing or damaging Mouse beyond repair because my son would be devastated. So I just got a friend to grab two more new ones from US eBay and ship them to me in Canada because there can never be enough back ups!
Ladies! Someone actually wants to buy our desk! The big, heavy desk that is preventing me from finishing the nursery. We got paid for it already and this guy is picking it up on Saturday. He's opening his own business and loves how large the desk is for his office. I'm like...all yours buddy. We'll have a functional room soon! Woohoo!
Awake at 230. Baby didn’t move his usual at bedtime so naturally I’v been freaking out all night and try to count when I wake up throughout the night. Counting kicks is like counting sheep, i just fall back to sleep. Now I’m sitting up and feeling him move more, phew!
Woke up starving today. I’ve been up for almost an hour and haven’t eaten yet. It’s my own fault. Does it happen to anyone else when you eat early and then like an hour later your tummy is like “second breakfast??”
@hillbillywife yes! Omg sometimes i can’t stop eating. But I’ve noticed i haven’t been eating dinner much recently because I’m so full from all i eat throughout the day.
@hillbillywife I need to eat as soon as I wake up or I get super hangry! And then I eat a few ours later and never want lunch at normal lunch time... my whole eating schedule is messed up

@comealongponds I hear you on that one. DS loves his doggie blanket. Luckily we have two but the second one has been lost for a month! I look for it everyday and it stresses me out that he will lose the second one. I know it is in the house and he probably stuck in somewhere. I found them on Amazon but of course it is out of stock. Carters doesn’t sell them anymore.
@hillbillywife totally! I also notice on days when I am less hungry, I wake up the next morning absolutely starving and so cranky if I don't eat right away. Those are also the mornings when my fasting blood sugar is elevated, so basically I am now trying to incorporate more calories into my days. I added avocado to my lunch, one extra snack, and extra protein for my bedtime snack, and woke up not starving today, with a good fasting number and not too cranky for once.
@comealongponds yess!! DS has a special blanket, as soon as I noticed he was attached to it I tried buying more but it was gifted and a part of a set and I could never find another! Now it’s too worn down to be replaced so I’m doomed if he ever loses it.
@hillbillywife yes! Second breakfast, second lunch with the toddler, snack after lunch and then I’m too full to eat a real dinner- but not so full I don’t ask DH to make a DQ trip for a dipped cone after DS bed time
@TalesOfASocialIntrovert would a trans vag US also be a precaution to contributing to preterm? I totally understand why they wouldn’t want to do a manual check tho. Hope things settle for you!
I got sent for a trans vag weeks back for an extra cervical length check and the OB at the hospital was questioning why my OB was asking for it and said "after 24 weeks we prefer to leave things alone down there" - so I would say yes but depends on OB? @foxbaby2016 I always feel the same way - but the OB office always says "when in doubt call" - non pregnancy medical stuff I ignore, but pregnancy i freak out and call when it's "call if...." items @babygagnon2018 I didn't really tear much - they called them more "skid marks" than legit tears but did have a couple stitches. I was 100% against an episiotomy - it was pretty much my only request/plan. A friend from college delivered 2 months before DD was born and had a pretty deep episiotomy without dr asking - so if you feel strongly I would talk to your OB and nurses. RE holding baby right after - some women get the shakes after delivery - happened to my mother and also to me - so depending on how badly you're shaking you may not feel comfortable holding immediately after birth. I settled down enough while they were stitching me up, delivering the placenta, and checking over baby, but it wasn't immediate hold. @comealongponds YES! also DD has 2 different lovies - a butterfly (our choice) and a giraffe (SIL is obsessed with giraffe) and has 2 of each so we can cycle through the wash - very clutch for vomiting bugs! We went through 3 Sunday night alone...
Im glad I’m not the only one with wacky eating habits right now!
In other food related news, has anyone had the new English muffin bagels?? They’re sooooooo good! They’re super fluffy so the butter sinks all the way in.
@zande2016 I’m glad you’ve been able to find a way to add some filling things to your daily intake! Being hangry and pregnant is no good!
ETA @acunamatada always ice cream after bedtime! We skipped last night because we had dinner really late (like after 10pm) and even though I was exhausted I was bummed we didn’t have any lol
Thanks ladies! I plan on doing an un-medicated birth so the thought of tearing and/or being cut is seriously so scary. I know they will numb you but for whatever reason numbing stuff just doesn't work for me (at least Novocaine at the dentist lol)
All day yesterday my feet/ankles were horribly swollen. I didn't do much walking other than down the street to my mom's house and back a couple of times (she's 5 houses down) and I walked around my backyard with my little sister and held the bag while she foraged for dandelions. But my feet were so bad and still are slightly swollen. DH is planning on taking me to a big outdoor festival for mother's day on Saturday, it's a lilac festival with craft vendors and food trucks and it's in my favorite city to go shopping in and my favorite cafe/bakery is there so I'm really looking forward to it. But it's 2 hours away and I don't know how much walking I'm going to be able to do but also don't want to forfeit going all together. There was some not-pregnant-friendly event DH wanted to go to that same day so if I tell him I'm not sure about the lilac fest he'll probably just take me for a consolation prize breakfast at our usual diner and I'll end up spending the day alone while he's off at his thing
@babygagnon2018 I just wanted to offered a different experience and say that I did have an episiotomy with my first birth in conjunction with having the vacuum used to help get him out (this was after 2.5 hours of active pushing). I didn't even realize it was being done it happened so fast (my DH described it as a "ninja move" by my doctor) and he did numb the area first before making the cut. Stitches after were like the other ladies said - they numb the area and you feel a weird tugging sensation. I would be okay with having another episiotomy if that is what the doctor felt was best in the moment.
@carsonraynee that festival sounds so fun! Stupid question but is the swelling bad for you or can you just kick up and ice later and be ok?
I'm at work right now having the hardest time getting comfortable in my chair. I don't know wtf to do to fix this. I keep giving myself pep talks and reminding myself that I have just one more day left this week then 5 weeks till I'm out.
Also, I almost had a meltdown in a Ross dressing room yesterday
@runsomewhere omg I haven't been to a Ross in years! We don't have them up here :-/ Have you tried a donut/extra cushion and box under your feet? my work chair was killing me too and I'd start hobbling like a 200 year old women and all the men in the office would freak out.
@carsonraynee My ankles tend to swell more when I sit at my desk all day. Walking actually helps move the fluid out. Just curious if maybe you were sitting a lot with feet down and that caused all the swelling. Maybe walking around at the festival will help. Sounds fun!
In terms of eating, it's been weird. Since heartburn showed up even though not every day I'm almost scared to eat. I'm trying this small meal deal but I'm not good at it morning is the time I'm the most hungry and I too have a hard time eating dinner. In general I noticed my appetite has decreased compared to second trimester and I was shocked to see I only put on half a pound in 2 weeks (probably because I was pretty active in Hawaii).
@gingerbride26 I went yesterday because I was feeling butt ugly and gross and wanted to buy a cute maxi dress to cheer myself up and feel cute. It backfired and I looked disgusting in everything and the fitting rooms smelled like pee.
I haven't tried anything for the work station. We have good chairs, sit stand desks and whatever accessories we need to make things comfortable. Usually I feel great but I cannot get comfortable. It's mostly the back on my chair. I'm either sitting too upright or leaning way back. Nothing feels good. Maybe I need a back pillow? I think I'll just go hide out in the nap room for the next few weeks.
@runsomewhere NAP ROOM!? where do I apply? I had to vulture my ergo chair when someone quit and my adjustable sit/stand monitor set up has been "in process" for over 6 months... I shouldn't complain since my boss is so understanding and lets me work from home to compensate for total lack of employee care...
@gingerbride26 lol yes, we definitely have nice perks that I'm thankful for. Though I think I'd trade those in to work from home with no pants on in a heartbeat right now.
+1 for the weird eating habits and swelling. Yesterday was my dads bday so we went out for lunch and I ate half a sandwich and some fries. And then I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day/night. Nibbled on some food DH made for dinner just to make sure he ate (he won't eat by himself), but that was it. Also, my feet/ankles were swollen most of the day yesterday and still a bit today. DH gave my a foot rub last night which was amazing. Need to walk around a bit more today I think.

With #1 I retained part of the placenta so they dug around pretty good, and I wasn't medicated.
