Confessions of a new mom

LO has cradle cap and read online that Aquaphor is one possible solution.  So I rubbed it all over his head and put on a hat.  It was bath time last night and well, that stuff doesn't come off easily.  He now has a messy-gluey-dandruff-stuck-on hairstyle going on.  Sigh...have to fix it somehow today.  He looks awful!   :s

Re: Confessions of a new mom

  • @knuttyplus2 have you tried lightly combing?  I used coconut oil with my first and would just comb through while he was feeding.  It should break up the loose bits and hopefully work some of the aquaphor out.
  • Loading the player...
  • @knuttyplus2 I love your description of his hair! Lol

I got lanolin in my hair last week and I got it out with dish soap but it took some pretty vigorous scrubbing and I also didnt wet my hair first.  Idk if that will work? Can you use Dawn on babies?
  • @fragglemom.  Yes, but I feel bad because his head just looks so sore.  I think he has a combo of cradle cap and dermatitis, so I have to careful with the comb.

    Anyone else have any confessions?
  • +1 to always holding the baby because she’s so little and cuddly and I know this won’t last. I had said I wouldn’t do it because I didn’t want her getting used to be held to go to sleep.

Confession - I hate changing her clothes because I feel like I’m hurting her head or arms while I’m trying to put the new shirt on
  • @DDRRT1982 +1 for not bathing much I think Declan’s had 6 in 7 weeks maybe.

  • I’m on the other end of the spectrum. If I could I would give Jeffrey a bath everyday. He loves baths and it seems to help his gas pain and calm him. I don’t want to dry out his skin so I only give a bath every other day. I feel I’m being selfish by doing that.

@bexster05. We do every other day baths too! He loves them and it definitely seems to help him relax.

ETA we also use a bunch of lotion after to help prevent dry skin. I'd probably bathe him everyday too if I could.
  • @DDRRT1982 we haven’t even done a real bath yet - still on sponge/wash clothes baths as her belly is still healing. We go for a check up Saturday so maybe after that?
  • @maelily15 I’m glad your doctor could do that for you. I’m so sorry you have to go back before even 8 weeks.

@maelily15 - I’m glad you doctor did that and so sorry you have to return early.
  • Thanks @shoretobe and @mmom3, my doctors office is pretty chill about stuff like that. We could afford for me to take the full 8 weeks (I had an amazing short term disability plan plus almost 6 weeks of paid leave banked up) but I’m ok returning before 8 weeks. I love every opportunity for baby snuggles, but my brain might melt if I have to watch Peppa Pig for another 10 days. Plus I miss being around adults and love my job most days. I tried joining a mommy group to be around other adults besides DH and his family but couldn’t find one that we’d be able to go to after I return to work.
  • Confession: I co-sleep. And I love it. She would totally sleep in the crib now since daycare has trained her to do so.. but I don't want her in the crib just yet.
  • @mccurleya - same! Or when I put her in her bassinet for the night and she’s just looking around.
  • @crossfitbabybump Nate sleeps in his crib at night but as soon as my husband leaves for work, he's in bed with me. We just woke up from a 4 hour snuggle session. I adore it.

@shoretobe I don't care as much at night because I'm so tired haha I think about it but fall right back asleep

@nancysimp we have always showered our babes after the cord stump falls off. Way easier and they don’t get cold like they do in a baby bath.

@megpeg yes much warmer :) plus the steam clears up his nose! When DH joins it becomes a fun and even more special bonding experience.  <3

Hubby used food coloring to have LOs "sign" their grandma's mother's day card.  Needless to say, baby safe ink pads are now on their way from Amazon!   :D
  • @nancysimp - how old is your LO now? Alice is 3 months and I'm debating on showering now with her. I'm scared she won't like it though. But she loves baths and we let her "free swim" as I call it, where we hold her and let her just float in the water. It's her favorite! Our baby bathtub sucks, she slides off of it all the time!
  • @crossfitbabybump it’s worth a try...
My LO is six weeks and seems to enjoy it. I turn the spray to the lowest setting and the shower head toward the wall then let the water run over her body and use a wash cloth on her.  My husband stays out of the shower to help with the wash cloth. At the end I pass the baby to him and he wraps her in her little hoodie towel (I love those things!)
  • @shoretobe - love the hooded towels! we have a giraffe one lol! We did spray her bottom half off with the shower head the other day when she pooped in her towel as soon as we took her out. She didn't seem to mind too much lol

  • @megpeg - we have something just like that! we tried to put it on her the other night and she cried sooo... hoping maybe down the line she'll like it????? lol
  • @crossfitbabybump we started putting him in the shower at 5 weeks. If my hubby is in the shower too, he holds Massimo while I wash him. If I'm alone, I put him in his tub and soap him up in there and then wash him with the shower. Today I managed to soap and rinse without the tub because he's a bit bigger now. :) Everything is set up by counter sink...change pad, diaper, bath towel, and sleeper. He loves it!!!
  • @nancysimp - I asked DH to try that last night and he said he's scared to drop her! I get it, they are super slippery but I wonder if we wrap her in a small towel to help hold her better? Any advice on that?
  • They make special ring slings that can be used in the shower.  You can typically find them on Amazon for less than $20.
  • @crossfitbabybump

I was a bit scared too. I walk in with Massimo hugging me so his stomach is on my chest and his head is just under my neck. I watch not to get water in his ears. The water doesn't make him squirm and he doesn't fidget. He just hangs on like a little monkey or koala bear  <3 I have one arm under his butt and the other on his back which I use to clean him with a washcloth and soap very carefully. So far he doesn't move around in the shower he just hangs on contently looking at the water and smiling sometimes...can totally see he is enjoying the spa. With two people in the shower it makes it even easier.

I can't promise your babe won't move around or feel slippery...from my experience my babe is calm and surprisingly not slippery. Yes, with soap he is slippery so we're extra careful or put him in his tub that's in our shower if I'm alone.

You gotta do what is comfortable for you.  :)

10 weeks post and I still don’t want to have sx with DH.  Done a few times to be a nice wife but it definitely didn’t feel good and I have no drive.  Feel like last time my recovery down south was better.  There’s my confession!
  • sgrn18sgrn18 member
@slr1229 I'm 8 weeks PP and I don't want to either.  I almost feel like I'd be fine never having sex again lol. I know my husband wants to but for some reason I'm just not into it.
  • @nancysimp - we did the shower this weekend and she LOVED it!!! It really helped her congestion too!
  • @crossfitbabybump Yay!! Good to hear! It's a nice way to bond as a family too :)

I'm going to try to massage him too after his next shower...if the bathroom is warm enough and his hair is dry. Talk about spoiled. Hahah
