Re: Names

  • @morganfu - It's pronounced "RE-o." I've only ever seen Rhea pronounced the same way, but "RAY-a" is very pretty.

@maureenmce - Thank you! I lovelovelove it as well; it seems to be picking up popularity (I'm meeting a lot of toddlers named Maeve) which is a slight deterrent for me, but we've been referring to this kid as Maevey-Baby for like three years. I wouldn't be able to let it go now, haha.

Edited to add: Her middle name will be Veronique, so the full meaning of her name will be "intoxicating honesty," more or less.  ;)

  • I brought up Molly again to mh and now he loves it. That may be a winner.

    Love Molly @rosebud332  !

I've been toying with these for girls:

    Katherine (Kit)
    Tess
    Wilhelmina (Billie or Mina)
    Cora

I think Wilhelmina is probably too much, and Cora is probably too popular, but I'm keeping them on the list for now!

  • I think we decided on Eloise Lavender for a girl. I’m so freaking in love.
    It’s wonderful!!

  • @katem987 I love the idea of doing something holiday related for a December baby. I know someone born on Christmas who is named Christine and I think it's great
  • @katem987 I have a whole list of Christmas names :D Holly, Natalie and Nicholas are at the top of that one, but I don’t know if they’ll make the final cut. I love the sound of Charlotte Noel though!

  • Girls names:
Haven Jane (Jane is a middle name that’s been passed down on my side for 4 generations, this would be 5)
Selah Len (Len is my DH middle name)

    Boys names:
Hezekiah William (William is a family name on both mine and my DH side)
    Asa William
  • @knottiea775b9f7696a865b One of my best friends is named Asa! It's such a cool, underused name! Also, if you get a chance, you should change your screenname to something more personalized - it's tough to tag you with all the numbers after knottie! :)
  • @maureenmce thanks so much! It’s so cool to meet someone that knows another asa I’ve only ever heard of one! Also, I’ve tried to change it a few times now and I don’t know why it won’t change. I’ll keep trying- thanks for the tip! :)
  • @knottie775ca2825c053c6b I think you have to log out and log back in, if you haven't tried that yet!
  • @maureenmce thanks so much for your help! I think I got it figured out!

Asa was on my list last time but I couldn’t convince DH. We recently met a little boy 16months named Asa.

My current boy names is Locke. It’s the only one left over from last round that I like.

Girl names Mercy, Gem, and Noa.
    Me: 36, H: 37
    FTM, 2 Furbabies
    married 03/17/07
lived in Houston, Austin, Los Angeles and NYC
    due: 2/15/17
  • I knew right away what our names would be.  Theo for a boy and Avery for a girl.  I’m not sure about middle names yet.
  • @Gwyneddlesliegrace love Eloise! It’s actually on our list this time. We’re thinking Eloise, Elodie or Eleanor.

I love those! I think Nicholas may be my top boy name! I didn’t even think of Holly, so cute.

  • Sorry for multiple posts in this, but I need some outside opinions. Mh and I both like Molly but not as much Margaret. If I named a girl Margaret it would only be to use the nicknames, of which my favorite is Molly. Question is—do you all think Molly is too “cute” of a full name for an adult? My first thought was Molly Kate, but now I am thinking of pairing it with something more formal (maybe Molly Elizabeth) for this reason. What do you guys think?

  • @rosebud332 I know adults named Molly and I don't think it's too "cute"!
  • @rosebud332 I know multiple adult people named Molly and I think it ages just fine! I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you love it! And don't worry about multiple posts on this thread - I think a lot of us might change or minds or need advice, etc, over the course of thinking of names for months!
  • @rosebud781 I'm a little biased because my daughter is a Margaret; we named her Margaret fully intending to only use Maggie. I feel like Maggie (and Molly!) are fine standalone names, but on the off chance that she feels differently later in life and wants something a little more formal (or even just a little different... maybe she'd prefer to be Margie or Molly, who knows?), I like that she's got an option. And even if she only ever goes by Maggie, having those extra letters on her birth certificate doesn't really matter.

I also had an unnicknameable name that I hated growing up, so that may skew my opinion.
  • @rosebud781 in full disclosure my name is Margaret so I think it is great! but my best friend is Mollie and she is a bad ass attorney it is an awesome name!
  • @AGK2015 I had no nicknames too and thus I am obsessed with nicknames a little bit. Molly of course really can’t be shortened anymore so that’s a consideration. Agree that Margaret has sooo many options. Even Peggy! And I really love Maggie too.

All of the Margarets I know go by Peg or Peggy!

  • @rosebud332 I don't think Molly is too "cute" for an adult, if you like it then use it! A nickname doesn't have to come from an actual name, it could be based off of something totally different. A guy I went to high school with was called Bama because he moved here from Alabama, nothing to do with his name.

@rosebud332 my sister is Molly Elizabeth! I do think it is a “younger” sounding name. But the biggest issue she has with her name is apparently a lot of people name their dogs Molly.  :D I think you can’t go wrong with Margaret, Molly as a nickname.

@texas_t I think that’s totally a preference thing. I’ve gone by 2 nicknames of my first name since I was a baby. No one ever calls me by my actual name. But I personally prefer “full” names rather than nicknames as a legal name.
    I like the name Heath!

  • @texas_t, @katem987 friends and familly always call "Sam", never "Samantha". I don't really mind it. So yeah I guess it is a preference thing :). (On another hand I HATE when people call me "Sammy" :# )

In France people usually have three names... As if finding one wasn't already hard enough  :D

For now our (okay, my) top 3 are:
    • Girl: Nina, Malorie, Liv
    • Boy: Ethan, Timothée, Malo

  • @texas_t my name doesn’t have a nickname, so I like them. My daughters name doesn’t lend itself to nicknames (Laura), but my son’s does (Edward). I could go either way on it. It’s not like I’m horribly scarred from having been called my full name my whole life.

Not sure about a boy’s name.
For a girl I love Charlotte, and if she’s born around Christmas (right now EDD is 12/26), I love Noel for a middle name.
I went to school with a girl whose first name was Noel. Super cute!

  • So my daughters’ names are Hazel and Zelda. If we have a third girl I like Eliza. The reason I like it is because it’s all basically the same letters, just one letter from each name is different. And we just kind of naturally landed on these and realize afterwards. For a boy I’ll be totally stumped and will need alllll the suggestions lol
  • @hazeldagarr He'll have to be Ezra, of course!

    Oh that’s good!
  • For a girl, don't ask me why, I fell in love with the name Evan. For a boy, it's Caden.
    Girl: Evan Elizabeth Marie
    Boy: Caden James Gordon

  • It seems like DH is set on James for a boy. It’s a family name for both of us but it’s his Dad’s name so still am not sure if I love it. I told him we should go with James Stanley (little old man baby) since that would then pay homage to my Pap, too... I thought he would veto it but he seemed to like it!
For a girl, it’s gonna take a while. We have a Fiona so names that go with that might be a little challenging. I do like the name Phoebe, though but I don’t think that will win out most likely. Good thing I have multiple months to get this ironed out...
  • @LostinUtopia a friend of mine has a Fiona and Stella!

  • I LOVE talking about baby names. For a boy, we're pretty already set with keeping the same boy name we didn't need to use last time: William Edward (after SO's dad) and he'd go by Liam, which I adore.  Girl names are more difficult. We settled on Brookelynn Grace for DD.  Olivia was a top contender for DD, and is still in the running for this baby, only hesitation is how common it's gotten/is.  He also likes the name Harper which I'm not completely sold on. :)
