Weekday Randoms - 4/9

Re: Weekday Randoms - 4/9

  • @lindsayleigh1989 I’ll be getting a booster shot st my 28week appointment. I’ll also get a rhogam shot and the glucose test. Yippee for me!

@zande2016 a doula isn’t really trained to help you make medical decisions. They’re just their to support you through birth. And they should be able to go to any hospital since they’re just a support person and you get to say who your support people are. (Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. But there’s my 2 cents anyways lol)

  • You guys remember when 10/11 weeks felt forever during first tri! Wks seem to be fly by these days!
  • @hillbillywife no I didn’t mean for medical advice...I want to go med free and avoid interventions if I can, and i feel like it will help me achieve that goal to have someone supporting me and with me. Since I don’t feel too comfortable that my midwife will be with me the whole time (since I’ll be at the hospital and their first priority is tending to the birth center), I am considering a doula. And since I’m considering changing practices/hospitals, I thought a doula might also be able to help with input on that decision since they have experience with the area groups/hospitals and know what their philosophies and practices are like. Like yes this hospital allows water birth, no that one doesn’t type of thing. Hope that makes sense. Definitely not looking to go against a doctors medical advice.
  • @zande2016 ok I gotcha now! I think a doula would definitely help support you in your decision to be med free. And they probably would know all the highs and lows about all the hospitals especially if they’re a seasoned doula.

Im sorry you haven’t felt like your midwife is in your side. That’s why people choose midwives over doctors, right?!
  • @hillbillywife yeah that’s why I chose them...I don’t know, maybe I’m just being oversensitive and hormonal. I just felt like her reaction to me being upset was to brush me off and sort of shut down. I’ll do whatever is safest for my baby, I just want to understand why medical decisions are being made and be involved in the discussion. She acted like I was being out of line for wanting to talk to the mystery doctor I’ve never met who made this decision.
  • @zande2016 I totally think you have a right to know why that decision was made especially since you’ve been on the medication before you even got a GD diagnosis..

And really, if your people skills are lacking that much that you can’t comfort a pregnant lady when you tell her terrible news, then maybe that job isn’t for you..

  • @zande2016 A doula will be able to help you make a decision about where to go. They have probably been to every hospital and birth center in your area if they have been around long enough. If you want an unmedicated birth and have risked out of the birth center, I think hiring a doula is your best bet. She will give advice during your pregnancy and advocate for you during the birth. They go through training and they understand the medical jargon so that they can explain things to you if the doctors fail to take the time to. If you end up not getting the birth you were hoping for, at least you can be sure that everything possible was done before intervention. I was afraid that I would be pushed into something that was not needed and hired a doula for DS’ birth. I had the birth I wanted and was fortunate in that everything went well. I hired the doula again because she was worth every penny. It is easy to forget all that you have read and learned in birth classes when you go through labor.
  • My car broke down at work tonight which sucks and is stuck there overnight why we figure out what to do ugh I hate my car!

  • @lindsayleigh1989 I'm getting my tdap next week (28 weeks) at my with my GD test, too.  Wahhh so many needles that day!
  • @lindsayleigh1989 boo! Cars really are a pain! I hope it’s not an expensive fix.

@SmashJam safe travels! You sound very prepared!! Mom boss status achieved!
  • @lindsayleigh1989 nooo that’s the worst, I hope it’s not an expensive fix!
@SmashJam so productive, I’m jealous! I’ve been trying to deep clean my house for days but I have zero follow through after completing one or two things.

This baby girl is tap dancing in there today! She moves so much more than I remember DS moving. For the past few weeks I’ve been able to feel her kick and then the rebound of her head, I’m worried she’ll hurt her head on my ribs! Irrational fear #3361
  • @lindsayleigh1989 sorry to hear about your car, that really sucks!

Count me in as another who is getting the tdap at just over 28 weeks next week (as well as the lovely GD test). Gonna see if DH can get the tdap vaccine at the same time as me.
  • @lindsayleigh1989 sucks about your car! Hopefully it’s any easy fix.
    @SmashJam have a safe trip!!
@sm05-2 with DS i had to go to a cvs to get it with DH. The OB didn’t do it. I would think maybe a primary care doctor could do both in office. Only i will have to get the booster this time around.
  • @zande2016 - based on my experience with my doula, I would 100% say that sharing their knowledge about local facilities/doctors is part of what they do!  I don't even think they consider it part of their "job" per se - I think they want all moms to get the birth they want, so they share what knowledge they have to help that.  The only reason I'm not using a doula this time is because I know now that the nurses at my hospital are amazing and did everything she would have (talked to me about avoiding cascading interventions, helped me get up and walk, got me on a ball, etc).

My GD test is today - I wonder if I'm getting the TDAP booster too?!?  After today I see the doctor every 2 weeks for a month, then I move to weekly appointments so maybe they'll wait.  Who knows.  I do still have to see the other 2 doctors in the practice and I think they mentioned those would happen in the later weekly appointments.
  • @MichelleAG05 you are already moving to every 2 week appointments? Are you high risk? I don't move to every 2 weeks until 32 weeks and weekly at 36 (I think).

  • Our VP is in the office today and I am slightly terrified of him.. like he's very fake nice to your face, but will also make your life miserable. I'm going to do my best to avoid him. Which I am actually very good at considering I sit in the middle of the office.

  • @MrsMiller8588 yes, I'm high risk due to both age and history of hypertension.  So I start every 2 weeks at week 28 and then weekly at week 32.

RE: pitocin - I took a natural birth class with my first called Baby Boot Camp (I think it's nationwide).  We learned a LOT about all the different possible drugs and/or medical procedures that may need to occur during a labor.  Pitocin was the one they focused on as the one that is pushed by doctors/hospitals more often than anything else.  I listed on my birth plan that I did not want pitocin (because moms I polled told me contractions were way worse after it and I planned non-medicated) and my nurse helped me to avoid it through other options. Full disclosure:  I did opt for an epidural despite all our planning for a non-medicated birth.  My DH says it was the best part of the labor.  :)
  • Ugh I think DS is getting sick. He had a rough night and woke up with a cough. This weather isn’t helping. It’s gonna be in the high 70s today and tomorrow but then back down to low 40s on Friday.
  • @MrsMiller8588 my midwife practice starts every 2 week appointments at 28 weeks, and weekly at 36. This is for all patients, according to their website. I saw them yesterday and going back in 2 weeks, when I'll be 28 weeks+. Pretty sure this is what my OB practice did last pregnancy as well.

First day back in the office in a week, since I came down with the flu. Already getting lots of phone calls and losing my voice all over again trying to talk to people. It's really crazy how long it's taking me to bounce back from this. I guess pregnancy really does mess with  your immune system.
  • @zande2016 Its still crazy to me how different regions or clinics do things so differently!

  • I'm jealous of all you ladies that get the tdap at your OB's office.  I always go to the little clinic at Kroger and hate having to make a separate trip!  From what I remember they want you to have it done between 28-36 weeks.

  • +1 who made family get the tdap before baby was born. Didn’t want to risk it especially since my sister works with kids. Family was like “why? We didn’t have to worry about this xx years ago?!” I’m yeah my baby my rules if you want to hold them freshly out of the oven.
  • Oh yeah - we made everyone get tdap for DD too.  My mom didn't, but she emailed me proof that she had it within the last 10 years.  HAHAHA
  • @lindsayleigh1989 nooo that’s the worst, I hope it’s not an expensive fix!

Mine too!  I thought DS was active when I was pregnant with him but this little lady is more so!  My dr laughs at how active she is at every appointment.  My Paternal Grandmother was first generation from Ireland and I keep telling my husband that she's already taught her how to step dance.  I swear that's what it feels like  :D:D:D

@gingerbride26 YAY for the kitchen being done!  Remodeling is such a PITA but it's so awesome once it's done.  :)

@wildtot I hope your little guy is feeling better!  Poor little man, it's so terrible when they are sick.

  • @stlmegs @acunamatada I feel the same way, but I had a girl first and this one is a boy!  I swear that he moves SO much more than she did.  My doctor laughs about it too.  I wonder if there's something to it, or if it's just coincidence?!
  • Just made the ultimate "to do" list for before the baby arrives. It includes deep cleaning the entire house as well as decluttering/organizing all closets, pantries, dressers and toy boxes. My husband is going to hate me  :#

  • @SmashJam safe trip, Ms organization! Good job.
@hillbillywife sorry about your LO possibly getting sick!
@acunamatada heck yes on the 3hr test!

I've been pretty good at organizing I would say but haven't gotten into the deep cleaning yet. Pretty sure I'll pay someone to do it even though I really should not...maybe I'll break it down in bits and pieces. Call me crazy but one thing that is bothering me is the window casings! I keep seeing all the dust and think about a time when I should just scrub it all. Blah!

This cough man. Every day is better but boy it takes forever. I am with you @zande2016! At least I've been home.

Had a 730 am call today and ended up fixing some issues until 10am. DH has been working on a video editing project he picked up as a freelance for extra cash so he was using my desk and I decided to work from our glider...bad idea... Just took and impromptu 15 nap! So comfy!!
  • @kbernal2021 I love those!

@lindsayleigh1989 I hope it’s an easy/cheap fix! Car issues suck!

@acunamatada congrats on good glucose test results! That’s so awesome and that gif is seriously cracking me up.

@SmashJam happy travels and yay for legally blonde quotes lol

@Sarafuss hoping they give you a good answer! Surely they would rather keep you working from home rather than lose you and have to hire someone new.

@gingerbride26 yay for kitchen design being done! That has to feel amazing to have that finalized.

*Whew* I think I’m finally caught up! Lol that’s what I get for taking a step back from my phone for a few days. Also, my docs haven’t mentioned TDAP but I’ve been wondering about it. I guess I’ll ask at my 28 week appointment!

  • @kbernal2021 I love those! What are they made of? Are they from Etsy? I need more information lol.

  • @runsomewhere I ordered them off etsy. Search foreverflowers by MK. I searched for a few months because they're so pricey on etsy and I am very picky. I found her shop and sent her a custom idea and they literally exceeded my expectations. And they were cheaper than any other shop i found on etsy which made it even better!
