Great Big Shower Thread

Re: Great Big Shower Thread

  • @tarheelgirl8 My mom and bff are planning my shower and planned it for the Saturday before Mother's Day. I'm not crazy about that because I know some people make plans for both weekend days, but it was really the only date that worked without going into mid/late June and with a July 5 due date, I didn't want to push my luck.

  • What's the difference between a shower and a sprinkle?

My mom wants to throw me a shower again because we're having a boy this time.  Most of my closest friends said they think it's totally fine, one suggested we have a sprinkle instead, but she had a hard time explaining what the difference was between the two.  I've got a registry for the completion discounts and we plan to buy most of what we need ourselves.  It would be nice to get some boy clothes and diapers/wipes though!

The BBQ idea sounds like something I would love and my parents do have a pool!  They're at least 30-60 minutes away from all our friends and family though....
  • @MichelleAG05 I can’t reallt figure it out either.. I think it’s a less extensive baby shower. More of a get together than a full on themed shower with registries and the whole kit and caboodle. But I could be totally wrong. A showers a shower to me. Lol (I also don’t think it’s tacky to have a shower for an opposite sex subsequent pregnancy)
  • @MichelleAG05 I think it's basically the name? And a lot of times they focus more on clothes/diapers/wipes then on the bigger items? The guest list I think is usually smaller and more of a casual event than a big shower. It probably varies by person and region though (just like shower customs can vary by region).

  • It's just a scaled down baby shower... so instead of being showered with presents, you get sprinkled with them, so to speak.

Usually they are more casual, smaller invite list (close family and friends only), and  sometimes people omit registry cards from the invitations (the thought process is if the guests want the registry info, they can ask the hostess). I can see the thought process behind no registry info, but as a guest I would rather have all the info in front of me, so I don't know how I feel about that.
  • @MichelleAG05 the sprinkles I have been to were brunches or small BBQs and there were no presents asked for, no registry stuff on the invites, people could bring stuff if they wanted. So I think its less focused on getting you stuff and more focused on hanging out and talking about baby stuff, lol.

My MIL told me that my SIL had asked her if they could throw a shower for me, so I brought up the diaper shower. If they decide to do it I will give them the diaper information but I'm kind of excited! I started a diaper "registry" on a cloth diaper website so thought I could just give MIL that along with the types of diapers I prefer and call it a day. Most of the diapers are like, $12 so if people wanted to go that route its still pretty cheap and comparable to the cost of the diapers I prefer.
  • Very interesting - seems like a sprinkle would be more my speed any way!  I'll have to bring it up to my mom the next time I talk to her.
  • Resurrecting this post to ask, has anyone put thought into a hostess gift? My shower is about a month out and it just dawned on me I should probably think about that. There will be about 5 hostesses minimum so I'm wanting to stay budget friendly. My first shower I couldn't afford to do a thank you gift for the 4 ladies that hosted mine and I can this time around but also don't want to break the bank.
  • @kbernal2021 crap. Good call...I haven't thought of that but open to budget friendly ideas!!

@kbernal2021 I have 4 hostesses who all love wine. So I'm thinking of buying my favorite wine along with a big wine glass (99 cent store) for each of them with a personalized DIY saying on each glass. I might skip wine for 1 of them, my sister, to treat her to a massage instead. She has been doing a lot for me and she NEVER does anything for herself.

    Edit: words

  • I went to the Coach outlet and got my hostess a nice purse.  They had purses that ranged from like 50 and up... they also they had nice clutches, accessories, etc.
  • My sister and mom hosted mine for my son. They’re both huge wine lovers so I just gave them each a nice bottle of wine. I don’t think either of them expected anything at all.
  • My group of ladies are coffee lovers and wine lovers so looks like I'm gonna get some personalized wine glasses, coffee mugs and some wine and some special cold brews for the others. Thanks for the ideas ladies!
  • Soo I've been thinking about hostess gifts as well. The two girls throwing the shower for me are not big drinkers so wine is out. One of them is also a type 1 diabetic so chocolate/sweets are out. I've been trying to figure out budget friendly ideas but I'm totally drawing a blank. I thought some outdoor flowers would be nice but it seems so impersonal.
  • @foxbaby2016 - You can get metal tubs personalized with a monogram on them through Etsy and local crafters.  Maybe that with flowers in it?

My mom is throwing me a sprinkle in less than 2 weeks - I should probably think about what to get her as a hostess gift too!  I may just give her the lavender bath stuff I bought for Mother's Day and then get something better for Mother's Day.

@foxbaby2016 - I just hosted a baby shower for my DH's cousin. They gave us a mini bag of sweets (which is out for your one friend), but they also gave us a RTIC water bottle (similar to Yeti. It's made here in Houston, so people know it just as well at Yeti). It's nice.

Last year I hosted one for one of my really good friends. She gave us some note cards with our first initial, a floral notebook, and a toiletry/makeup bag type thing.
  • So I went ahead and ordered my hostess gifts. 3 are big wine drinkers so I got them each a bottle of wine, a personalized tumbler cup and filled the cup with individually wrapped chocolates. For the other 2 who arent big wine drinkers but big into coffee I got them a coffee mug filled with on the go coffee/drink mixes and then scored some travel size sets from bath and body works on an amazing sale with a candle. Price wise I set a budget for all and spent the same on each one
  • Wow! I never even thought of a hostess gift!!! My husband is funding our shower though four ladies are doing the planning work. Thank you for bringing this up. I never would have thought of gifts! One friend is a chocolate lover so that's easy. One friend is making a three teir fancy cake for the shower so maybe some kind of a baking gift. Not sure of what to do for my sister and step daughter.  Maybe a #1 aunt and #1 sister thing from baby?

  • @kbernal2021 @And846 Your gorgeous shower pics are getting me so excited!  The gold and pink is so precious!
  • @kbernal2021 @And846 Wow, gorgeous showers!

Anyone want to share their shower dress? I am having a hard time finding something to wear. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a dress I'll likely only wear one time but I'd like to look nice of course.

I got a lace shift dress from Marshall’s and purchased an antique brooch to cinch it in the front to create a better silhouette
