I stopped shortly after my BFP since I don’t want to have to try to get the off if my fingers swell unexpectedly. (I have a very strong memory from 3rd grade of my art teacher trying to help my drama teacher get her rings off.)
@knottieamusements I want to say I stopped around second tri? We were also living in Houston at the time and the humidity probably had me more swollen than pregnancy. It just started getting comfortable so I stopped. Never really started wearing it again even after he was born except for special occasions.
@knottieamusements - i remember taking my rings off as they were prepping me for a c-section. I was lucky to not have issues with swelling. I would also talk to a doctor if you ever have sudden or significant swelling before third tri! And, if they ever do get stuck, dawn works miracles on getting rings off.
This is probably also a FFC as much as a question, but i met with one of the OB's at my office, and she is SO young, it made me uncomfortable. Like, she must have just graduated, and i get it, you went to medical school, and honestly, your recent education might be a huge plus, but i just felt uncomfortable. I just want an old matronly woman delivering my baby, who has delivered hundreds of babies. Am i being weird?
With my first (April baby), I didn't take off my rings until the last month or so. I also gained like 65 lbs sooooooo... With my second (February baby), I never had to take my rings off. It will be interesting being pregnant during the summer. I have a feeling I'll lose that battle early!
@jengibre_zorro did she seem like she knew what she was talking about? She may actually know her sh**. I met with one of the midwives at my office and asked a basic question about antibiotics/strep and she knew nothing (told me to ask PCP) but she was not new.
She didn't seem like she didn't know what she was talking about, i think just her mannerisms put me off. Like at at least three points she alluded to this pregnancy being an accident, which it very much was not. Like, sweetheart, when you are my age, you usually are trying to have kids before it's too late.... Maybe i just didn't like her and am trying to use her age as an excuse. I just left the appt feeling very weird!
@jengibre_zorro - if you don’t like her, then find a different doc if you can. While the doctor you are seeing now might not be the one who delivers the baby, you are still going to have to put up with her for the next 7-8 months.
Also, regardless, next time she alludes to it being an accident, shut that shit down. Some doctors seem to forget that in addition to being patients, we are also humans and customers.
@knottieamusements - oh i definitely won't be seeing her again for visits, i just worry with my luck, since i have to have an OB for a VBAC (or csection if that happens again) and she is one of the 4, i will totally end up drawing the short straw and go into labor during her shift. *walking out of L&D at 10cm - "this is fine, i'll just come back tomorrow"*
One of my husbands and I's favorite bands is going to be nearby in September. Any thoughts on the likeliness of me wanting to go to a concert at that stage in the pregnancy?
@nayyohme DH and I have run into the same predicament. We decided that it wasn't a good idea. Not only did I read stuff that says the loudness might not be good for the babe (how true this is? idk) but it's not safe to be in a crowd like that very pregnant.
@nayyohme - if there are seats, i would be all over it. If it's standing room only, like an outdoor festival, i might pass. My mom apparently went and saw black sabbath two weeks before my brother was born. She says it was the best concert ever, lol.
@nayyohme What band is it? What type of crowd? H took me to a championship soccer game when I was 8 months with DS. Very rowdy crowd in a packed stadium. I probably wouldn’t do that a second time. I would maybe do a concert depending on the type of crowd the artist draws.
@Kfrob Babies DEFINITELY are affected by loud sounds that late: with DS, DH and I went to a loud movie (Fast Furious 7-- STILL the last movie I saw in theaters...) And DS was jumping in utero every time something crashed.
Anyone else get MS from drinking water? I usually have no problem downing 24oz at a time, but since like 6 weeks, almost ANY water (especially cold) makes me wanna lose it! Milk is fine, my one morning coffee is fine, XXX vitamin water 0 is a life saver (Lots of B complex! Try for MS!), but sipping water, bleh! Worried I'm not staying hydrated enough...
My mom went to a KISS concert when she was 8 months pregnant with me I've found, that people are usually pretty good about being helpful and protective over women/younger children etc at concerts (I mean unless you get in the pit). I've went to countless concerts (rock/punk rock/alternative whatever) and always found people to be really great in those situations. And I wanted to do all things towards the end of pregnancy last time. I say, if you feel comfortable, I would totally go for it!
My rings still fit, I take them off at night. I just hope that I don't develop the issue my sister had with her last pregnancy- she developed an allergy to the metal in her rings (white gold) and broke out in a rash on her hand. She couldn't wear them her whole pregnancy.
My rings are actually really big now that I lost 30 lbs, so I'm looking forward to them fitting proper again and I think I will be able to wear them throughout the pregnancy. I work from home so I only wear them out to meetings and events.
Me 33 DH 41 TTC since 2016 Due: October 12, 2018 Location: Ontario, Canada
I stopped wearing my rings last pregnancy (due Feb.), but I was also a pretty small person and gained 40% of my body weight by the end. This time I’m not expecting to gain that much, but since it will be summer, I’m expecting to not wear them the whole pregnancy again. I take them off every night (& most of the day since I’m home) and will stop wearing them completely when it gets hard to put them on.
I’ve got Smashing Pumpkins tickets for row 3 at the end of August. There are seats, and the average age of fans is now somewhere around 40 so I don’t think pit violence is a worry . Didn’t consider the sound thing, though. Eh, still going!
From what I've read: As long as you're not right up against the speakers, you should be fine. If you can be further back (like lawn seats) it's better. Ultimately, as long as it's safe enough for your ears, it should be fine for baby.
@tinattt23 yeahhhh I'm in HTX and definitely get sausage fingers in the summer...so I'm sure they are gonna get real big this summer. goodie.
@nayyohme I definitely asked my doctor that question because DH and I are hard rock/metal fans, and he didn't see a problem with it. He was more curious as to which venues near us actually host hard rock bands lol. That being said, I saw Nothing More around week 7-8 and it was miserable because of my MS. Also the strobe lights were making the nausea worse, and standing the whole time was really hard on my back. Good concert, but had to drink soda water and ginger beer to keep nausea at bay. But, you probably won't be feeling nauseous then so maybe only the standing thing will be an issue!
Did anybody else not get a chance to see the heartbeat at their first ultrasound? Not because it couldn't be detected. It all happened so fast today, I forgot to ask my doc about it. I honestly think she forgot to check too, she seemed kinda in a rush. I swear my ultrasound lasted less than a minute. I got to see peanut for maybe 15 seconds before she checked on my ovaries and pulled the wand out. I'm not too worried about it as the baby was in perfect measurement and is obviously growing up to par. I should be able to hear in on a Doppler on my next appt at 13w, right? I'll remember to ask her about it then. Anyone else experience this?

I’ll just mention that my ob for Dd was old and had seen it all. Which I liked, until I had post partum hemorrhage and he was too chill about it. I think it made him complacent. I called back when it got bad and the younger doc on call told me rush in and turns out it was serious. I stayed with the overall practice but switched to her as primary ob.

Yup. As a doctor myself I will never have a doctor that's older than 50, and ideally I want them between 30 and 40. Younger doctors tend to be more Up to date on current medicine and stay that way. And they tend to be more anxious about making a wrong call that they are more cautious.

Not a doctor, but this is my train of thought too. I took DS to my pedi from when I was a kid. Big mistake. Everything I did was wrong because she was so old school. His new pedi is early 30s and I love her. She’s part of a huge practice too so if I second guess or she doesn’t know, she double check s.
My Dr is really old (he delivered me and I'm 27). My husband doesnt really like him, but I trust him a ton. I think it's because he delivered me and my siblings and he listens. That being said, he doesn't do U/S in office and seems to be more on the gyno side than the OB.
My GP is a bit older (probably early 50s) but I work with her in L&D, and know how awesome she is. My OB is in his late 30s/early 40s, and he’s great (work with him too).
My OB is in his 30s and is super cute (which is neither here nor there). He always listens to my concerns, if he doesn't know the answer to something he will do research. I have his personal cell phone number and he is always available if I ever need something. We have discussions on whatever my "what if" scenarios are at the time and he never pushes pitocin (even when I came in with my water broken and was only dilated 1cm). He even asks me for my opinions on pedis (because he has children MS age). I pretty much consider him a friend. I guess my whole point with this is trust and comfort are the most important things with an OB. If you feel like your dr isn't taking you seriously, find someone that will, but I don't think age should be the defining factor.
Question about cat poop. I know Drs and everyone say it can be really dangerous, don't change the litter box, etc. But I also heard/read that if you have a cat you are likely immune. Would I actually be in danger of the disease? Whatever it's called... So I grew up with cats, and I love cats and kitties! My DH does not. He does not like cats and my current cat drives him crazy. Puma has a litter box and it's really not an option to have him clean i. He would just as soon get rid of her instead. All the caution around the whole cleaning the litter box thing makes me nervous, but I don't even touch it! I use a scooper, put it in a grocery bag and double bag it and put it in the garage with the other trash to go to the dumpster, then wash my hands and arms up to my elbows. Like, seriously, is it that big of a deal???
@coffee-saur is your cat an indoor? My SILs doc said if it's indoor to still take precaution but they're at a lot lower risk for getting diseases and worms so it's safer to change the litter. If it's an outdoor I would be doing more than washing your hands, the full 9 yards of wearing a mask, etc.. ask your doctor about it if you are the one that must do it.. or talk to your husband and tell him to suck it up, you're having a baby and you shouldn't be the one changing litter as a precautionary.
