Wanted to call this shower porn, but realized that's probably an actual thing. But can't wait to see pictures and hear stories as we start having our baby showers!

Mid-plan of shower. Happening end of April - one of the last 2 weekends. My bff isn't able to attend, so she gave me her gift early. Home made crocheted blanket {vibrant colours - think sunset. GORGEOUS!} And she crocheted a kitty toy. She made it so it can sit on a shelf or something until baby's ready to have stuffed animals. Already warned her than it may be on my side table
Despite the weekend being something I need some distance from, I was so pleased and impressed with my shower. It was at my mom's house, but my cousin is the one who planned it and got all the decorations. She did an amazing job! She made mimosa shots in little baby bottles and the only game we played was bingo. Instead of crossing off a square if I got a gift, we just played standard bingo where I called out different baby related things and we had 3 winners. Since my cousin works at total wine, the prizes were bottles of wine. We also did advice/prediction cards which I enjoyed reading. Overall it was good seeing my friends, cousin, and SILs. My one SIL sewed a quilt (included a picture because it's adorable) for LO and got him a book with an inscription inside that I full on cried while reading. Also pink blush was clutch with the last minute dress purchase. Pics in spoiler.

@izza2 not at all, but when you work at a zoo, everything people get you is animal themed. I used to be an elephant keeper so that probably tied into my cousin's decision to go full elephant. We're actually shying away from any safari animal theme since I feel like that's too cliche for me.

@doxiemoxie212 yes they are! So delicious. It's dangerous knowledge, but they can ship nationwide and it's not that expensive. MH got me a dozen for my birthday this year and I was in heaven.

@Amphibious22 when I worked in DC, we used to get them for our monthly birthday celebration every month. There's a store here in NYC (but there are SO many cupcake places in NYC, that's dangerous in and of itself) and their designs are so cute. I used to love getting the sampler boxes around the holidays because they'd put in weird flavors and have such cute little sticker-ish things on top. UGHGHGH NOW I NEED A CUPCAKE!!
@Amphibious22 That dress is so cute! Love all the shower pics. I'm glad the shower turned out great despite all the other BS you had to deal with during your trip! Thanks for sharing
@Amphibious22 Pardon the cliche but you are glowing in that dress! Your shower looks so cute it's making me excited for mine. The food looks delicious. It sounds like you had a great time despite your other family troubles.
@Amphibious22 - you look great! Love the dress. Your shower turned out cute! I’m glad you were able to enjoy it despite the rest.
Thanks for starting this thread! I can’t wait to see how everyone’s showers turn out. Mine is the first weekend in April, which seems to be fast approaching!
Every time I see this thread my brain thinks we're talking about taking showers here. That said, a thread or even a conversation about shower practices does sound interesting. Just me? Ok.

aka how is everyone doing shaving their legs, etc?
Well I can assure you, I'm still doing it on my own. I sit on the shower floor. Painting toe nails? Nope, that's out now. lol
I had my baby shower yesterday and it was a lot more than I ever expected. My sister and my mom went above and beyond and I had the best time. A lot of ladies showed up including some old high school/college friends, and everyone was so so sooo generous with the gifts. I didn't have a registry so I received mostly clothes, books, blankets and all the nik nak stuff. I thought I'd be able to bring things home in my suitcase but that's no longer an option so my friends will help bring things back to NJ in May when they visit and my parents will bring the rest when they come when the baby arrives. The theme was English tea party with some safari details on the games and the prizes were all David's Tea products. Here's some photos (with lots of food!). I did end up wearing a dress! I ordered from Pink Blush and it showed up Friday before I left Saturday and I'm glad I wore one.
@becca_123 As a STM I am loving seeing the showers! And I am so inspired by your dress! I will not be getting showered for baby #2, so I will be living vicariously through all you guys! I do, however have a wedding May 12th, that I will need a dress for at 34 weeks pregnant... Love seeing all the Pink Blush stuff... am stalking that site...

@becca_123 I love all the decorations and the food is making me hungry Great choice with the dress! I’m glad it was a better experience than you were hoping for!
@rnielsen321 They really do have good stuff. Free shipping, free returns. I ordered 5 dresses to check sizing and style and it arrived in 2 days. I picked the one I wanted and sent the rest back in the mail. @Amphibious22 persuaded me to go for it so thank you!!
@becca_123 I love the dress!!! I'm so glad pink blush worked for you too. Their dresses are so nice! Also all those cakes look amazing. So hungry for sweets now! I really wanted to wear slippers at my shower but my mom told me I wasn't allowed. Lol.

@Amphibious22 I asked my mom if I was allowed and she said to do whatever made me feel comfortable - I wasn't going to give her time to change her mind
This thread is making me excited. My shower is still a month away. The showers above are so cute and I love that they are in homes. I tell people all the time you can make a room (or two) look just as nice as a restaurant or fancy event center. Im in love with my shower invite. I
I wasn't going to have anything, because this is my 3rd, but my two friends are insisting on doing a sprinkle. We're going to do it April 25th, I'm really excited. Tbh, I just love getting together with friends, lol. We're going to make it more of a get together and not so much a shower.
I wish I could say the shower turned out fantastic, but it didn't. I'm trying to be positive about it, but it was a little depressing. Details in spoiler below because long.
The Good:
My mom went down to the lounge space 3 hours before the shower was set to start and began setting up. 30 minutes before the party started, the hosts joined her along with some of DH's friends. They all worked really hard setting up the decorations from what my mom says (though she was a bit frustrated she was doing it by herself for so long since she was not one of the hosts lol).
The hosts in charge of food did bring my favorite cupcakes and got an assortment of snacks.
My BFF setup some really cute decorations, and she designed this custom coloring book (A is for... Avengers, D is for... dachshund, etc) and everyone had a lot of fun coloring the pages, etc. She's going to turn it into an actual bound book for us, which will be really cute.
There was a baby bottle chugging contest that was pretty funny.
I think DH had fun seeing his friends, and he was really outwardly positive and bubbly most of the day which was great because I was having a hard time keeping my fake enthusiasm up. I really appreciated that he could "get it up" when I couldn't lol, and even though he'd spent the week prior shit talking the hosts out of frustration for all the drama (and I thought he'd flip the eff out about the $250), he spent the day only pointing out positives and trying to ignore the negatives.
I think my mom had fun seeing DH's mom (they don't see each other often since they live on opposite coasts).
I think guests had fun with each other.
The Bad:
DH and I ended up having to pay the $250 non-refundable fee to use the lounge space, which we didn't find out about until the morning of. (Another party interrupted ours toward the end and just sort of took over, and they did not pay the fee since they were not on the online calendar, so I was doubly annoyed we had to pay.) I also spent $35/host last weekend on thank you gifts, so...
I felt uncomfortable most of the time -- both physically and emotionally. We arrived 15 min after start time, and everyone was still setting up or out getting coffees (like individual coffees for themselves, not for the party) so no one really said hi, it was just sort of chaos, which made me feel shitty for not being able to help more and also shitty that no one cared enough to get there when they said they would so setup could be done in time. There was a lot of seating (couches, comfy chairs, etc.) so while I tried to stand and talk to everyone in the beginning, eventually I just needed to sit down, and not very many people wanted to do that, so I mostly just hung out by myself/with DH's dad (who was watching college basketball on the TV). Everyone was coloring in another part of the space together (the lounge has 4 semi-separate spaces), but there wasn't really room for me to join unless I stood, so I just waited for folks to finish up. Most people wore jeans and super casual t-shirts (no makeup, etc.) so I felt really out of place in my dress and converse -- like I was trying too hard or something, IDK. I am not particularly shy, nor do I have any interest in being the center of attention, but seriously I could have left that party, and it would have taken at least an hour for anyone to notice.
Gifts -- ugh. I know I shouldn't complain, but two things were weird. 1) the host who pushed for the shower the most (and then forgot it was even happening last weekend, and sent out invites to her bachelorette party on my due date when her wedding isn't until November) was also the one I had talked with most often about how I was on the fence about agreeing to a shower because I thought people might get us stuff we don't need/want/have room for, and she assured me that they would include the registry in the invite (which they did), and reiterate it verbally to anyone who asked, etc., to help combat that. She got us a trinket tray (which, while cute, is obv not from our registry), and when she overheard me mention registry discounts said, "Oh did you register? You have to send me the link!" Really? 2) the hosts included an insert in the invite that said to include a book instead of a card, yada yada, you've seen the poems. Most people instead gave us 4-5 books each and a card. There were no duplicate books, which is great, but we actually don't have room for that many books. Like, we got 50 or so books? And sort of nothing else. And some of them aren't children's books (And no, no better bundo book lol). And then the entire party the question I was asked most was, "So do you have everything you need for the baby yet?" ...................well I have a lot of books?
All of the drama leading up to it was not worth it. I am sad we missed our birth class.
I don't really have any photos. My BFF took one photo of DH and I at the end (which I don't have yet), and I think she took a photo of each person individually to include in the coloring book, but I think that's it?
But it's over now! And soon my registry discount codes will be available, and I can just buy the stuff we need for the baby, check stuff off our list and be done with it. And this day can just be this weird thing that happened that I laugh about moving forward.
