  • Poo there is a possibility I’ll be asked to travel to NM and Las Vegas. I already told my boss that i don’t want to do both since I can’t travel out of state past May. My doc said 34 wks but i lies and said 30 lol. Anyways it’s one or nothing and that means it will have to happen soon. I hate work trips. They are too exhausting.

  • @flockofmoosen3 totally agree! I never understood the need for a child to have a cell or tablet. I didn’t get my phone till 18 yrs old when i could pay for it AND needed it in college. I know that there are some dummy phones out there intended for emergencies (not intended for daily use) and i can kinda agree with that. But why would my nephew get an iPad at 4 yrs old?? I don’t get it either.
  • @wildtot and @flockofmoosen3 I agree kids in middle school don't need phones and social media is toxic.  I did have a "dumb phone" in high school, but that was because there wasn't a pay phone and I needed to let my mother know if practice was cancelled and pick up schedule was changing. No data, no texting (well smart phones didn't exist then anyway, but like those emergency ones they have now). We did get a fire kids tablet for our 2 year old, but it is only for restaurants and if she needs to come to my dr's appointments where the attention span and sit still expectations for a toddler are too much.  She doesn't get it when we're home.  We do have issues with my MIL letting her play slots on her phone causing issues and have had to take all smart phones away from her and sometimes ourselves.  She's bounced back well and although we leave the TV on a lot for background noise, she doesn't actually watch it unless she's sick or over-tired, usually she's playing with her toys.

  • I'm stressing about my follow-up ultrasound tomorrow.  I've been okay for the most part but the closer it gets the more anxious I get.  I've been searching for positive stories of women who have been through the same thing (no stomach bubble seen on u/s and then everything looks totally fine at follow-up) and found some on What to Expect.  But apparently, no one on the bump updates anyone.  I read like 6 posts of women who were concerned after the anatomy scan and then never came back to update.  I'm telling myself that means everything was fine.

  • @cseley321 I live in an area with similar weather to Houston. I've never even thought about a portable AC for power outages. Genius. My parents' AC went out in July one year and they had the option of waiting 2 weeks to get it fixed or paying to get a totally new AC unit installed, and they had to pay to get a new unit because otherwise they'd have been living in a hotel for 2 weeks. I thought that was absolute extortion.

@gingerbride26 yeah our tv is on for noise too and he usually cares less. We only distract with a video on the phone at restaurants while we wait for food. Sometimes even the weird “PPAP” video does the trick lol

  • My kids have iPads and it doesn't bother me at all.  They use educational apps or watch shows on the Disney jr. app.  They don't have any clue about social media at this point.  And they are limited on how long they can use them.  To me, that's a completely different issue than cell phones.  At least at this age (almost 5 & 7).  But I guess their exposures to tablets could make them want a phone sooner than a kid without a tablet?  I don't know.  Parenting is hard and I don't judge when other kids can use tablets or phones.  I have no idea when my kids will get phones.  Their exposure to social media and the pressure that brings scares me and I'm just hoping I can teach them to be secure in themselves and to be kind to others.

  • @Sarafuss I hope everything goes well for you tomorrow, that wait sounds terrible. I hate when OP doesn’t update on scary posts like that, I turn into a super siggy creep which doesn’t do much good either.
  • @acunamatada thank you!  And I turned into a creeper too checking post history lol.  Almost all of them were that person's first and last post.  :/

  • @sarafuss I agree re tablets not being the same issue as phones/social media. Lots of kids use them for educational apps too. My kid watches TV and he loves it....Sesame Street, The Wiggles, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse are all he watches but I do not feel bad about it. We still interact and talk to him plenty, but he enjoys it and the content is positive and educational. Also, good luck tomorrow!!!
  • @wildtot and others have you seen the "walk up" thing? Someone posted a teacher pic of "walk up" which is something like, "When you are done, "walking out" try "walking up..." 1) walk UP to a teacher and say thank you
    2) walk UP to someone and be kind 3) Walk UP to someone and stop a bad situation or something like that. Its a great idea. I do know that a lot has to change besides gun control, but I think kids wanting to take a stand to support the kids in parkland is a cool idea. Also, I did just skim, so maybe someone said this, but I think the 4/20 one is scheduled because it was COlumbine. could be wrong though!
  • RE the tablet agree not the same discussion as social media (which I feel is as detremental to adults as any other age bracket) but in terms of amount of use - i think like most things it's kid by kid specific - we also keep to the educational things, but I worry about the blue light (bad eyes in our family) and my kid seems to have my hyper-focus tendency and trying to get her attention when she's plugged in can be impossible.  If it's readily available, it's the first thing she'll go for too, so we withhold to try to keep her diversified with motor function building toys as well.

  • Late to the party, but @runsomewhere I'm with you on the daylight saving thing, I don't notice a difference for myself, but my dogs never seem to adapt to standard time so I actually like the change, lol. Means the dogs aren't bugging us for early dinner. Plus by the time summer rolls around here it means it stays light until about 9:30 or 10pm which means more time outside after work.
  • @SmashJam yes I’ve seen the Walk Up posts and i love that idea!
  • Thinking of you and sending you creepy internet hugs @sarafuss

  • @SmashJam progress!! I cannot wait until I don’t have to clean poopy diapers... Not that it’ll last long with another on the way
  • @Sarafuss thinking of you!
@SmashJam that is so cute! I know probably not so cute in the moment, but I can just see the little guy thinking he is being so helpful and...bless.

My random for the day - why the hell is dreft so flipping expensive !?!?
  • @ashbub714 and anyone else that might be able to answer this. I already use the "white bottle" (free of perfumes and dyes) of laundry detergent bc I have sensitive skin. Usually All or Arm & Hammer. Do I really need to use Dreft? is there a difference? I was planning on just using what I already use
  • @moguippy right after I made this post I called one of my friends who has kids and she said she used All Free & Clear and dreft wasn’t necessary. I think I’m going to run with that answer so you would be good with your current detergent :)
  • @moguippy I don't believe there is a difference beyond the "baby scent" of Dreft. I think Dreft actually has a very strong fragrance so a fragrant free soap may be better for sensitive skin anyways.
  • @moguippy In one of the classes I went to, they went over baby detergent and said Dreft was promoted because it was the only baby safe detergent out there a long time ago. Now they recommend All's Free and Clear or any detergent that has a free and clear type product that is safe for baby. We use All's Free & Clear at home, so I will continue to use it.

  • SWEET!  Thank you ladies!  @zombiehoohaa @TalesOfASocialIntrovert @ashbub714

I am going to pick up some Dreft stain remover bc the current one I have isn't free and clear. and I don't know if I've seen another brand of stain remover that is free and clear
  • @TalesOfASocialIntrovert Thanks for the info, we're an allergy house and can't use detergent with fragrance unless DH wants hives and I want an asthma attack.Good to know Dreft is scented, we have some samples we've received and I think I'll give those to someone else that might be able to make use of it and stick with my normal dye/fragrance free detergent. Plus that baby powder fragrance has always made me and DH gag. We might be alone in that.
  • @noideawhatshesdoing I got a sample of Dreft in-wash scent booster and just the smell of the unopened sample pack sitting on the table was too strong. I threw it in the bag for the food pantry and donated it.
  • @zombiehoohaa and @moguippy agreed - we don't use dreft at all here.  DH swears by ALL Free and Clear but I find it doesn't get all the food/poop/baby stains out - maybe my kid is just super determined.  I prefer Clorox 2 fragrance free, and a good soak in oxi clean followed by a wash in fragrance free and extra rinse cycle for SUPER determined stains.  Orange slices are the work of the devil...

  • @moguippy good idea, I just offered the samples we have up to a friend, if she doesn't want them I'll take them to a food pantry.
  • @gingerbride26 We also use Oxiclean on top of All free & clear. I've also used the Tide's version of Free and Gentle. I did like that it seemed to get some stains out of my nephew's clothes (we babysit a lot) than what All's version did. However, we do use Oxiclean as a pre-soaker for things because it works!  So maybe it was the combo of the two.

I did try a sample of the Dreft on the baby's clothes. I ended up re-washing them in the All because the Dreft made the clothes feel weird almost like they weren't washed.

I know it can get pricey, however, it may be worth trying small bottles of a few different free & clear type detergents to find the one that works best. Maybe reach out to Tide or another company and ask for a sample? Let them know you are prepping for baby and want to see how the detergent works...

  • @noideawhatshesdoing I hate the smell of baby powdery Dreft also. Its the worst!
  • We have used dreft, seventh generation, all free & clear, honest, and they are all the same to me. Most were gifted so i haven’t purchased baby detergent since birth lol dreft can be a bit too strong for me sometimes tho
  • @moguippy We buy the powder at Costco (big box). We use it as a pre-soaker, add-in, cleaning house, etc. It's literally been a great buy for us. For pre-soaker, we add it to the washing machine water then put in the clothing and let soak for about 5-15 mins (depending on stains), then add the rest of the clothes, detergent, then wash it. So its like a 2 in 1 pre-soaker/add-in. We've also used it to clean shoes, toys, etc.
I've been tempted to try this

    Babysizer Geeky Pregnancy Tracker

  • Wow, I definitely need to up my detergent game and research, I use the "clean" Costco type but didn't know that there was a difference and some specific baby ones!
  • I use the Ecos brand from Costco for our laundry and for DD's laundry. When she was first born I got a bottle of Dreft but then switched to using the same stuff we use and it was fine.
