Is anybody else who isn't finding out the baby's sex getting a lot of pushback about it? Most people keep reacting with some version of "I don't like that at all." It's starting to really piss me off. I wavered on whether to find out a little at first, but having so many people tell me that they're mad I'm not finding out or that I "HAVE" to find out just brings out my stubborn streak. No, I don't HAVE to do anything! I'm pregnant and hormonal, so I do what I WANT
@beanship who cares. One of the most fun surprises of life! You do what you want for you and your family. If I have another one I won't be finding out the sex for sure.
We did a co-ed shower for my first and it was fine. The hostess still did all of her games and stuff, but there was other stuff setup for people to do, like outdoor sitting area, xbox, horse shoes, cornhole boards, etc.
I got to see and tell my girlfriends yesterday and it was SO nice. We all left our jobs about a year ago and don't get to do lunch every week like we used to.
Amazing how a good good group of friends can lift your spirits!
@beanship a little bit, but I couldn't care less what anyone thinks. Mostly people are shocked because "if it was them, they'd want to plan ahead" and then I tell them there's not anything different to plan for a boy vs a girl, and their mind is blown.
I wanna make a spinach salad with a good vinaigrette, dried cranberries and walnuts for dinner with in laws Saturday. I would typically add goat cheese, which I can still do and just avoid, but anyone else have thoughts on a good cheese I could add that is safe for pregnancy? Or any good salads they love that are straight up healthy (MIL is a health nut) and don't include cheese I can't eat?
@nimmle I always thought that, but, I am concerned because the process for making chevre is hanging it for 8-12 hours in the air, so there is a bacterial presence. I know a local company which has never had an issue with making people sick, so it might still be ok, but I think its also the process of making chevre that is not safe. It's part of the reason you can't have brie and other cheese with rinds as well, they are aged and mold ripened so that process introduces bacteria into your system (although not typically harmful and totally regulated).
@beanship my friends are up in arms that I’m going to find out the sex and then wait a whole month to inform them. Like really this is my 3rd baby. You really don’t care what it’s is, you just don’t like that I’m making you wait. Poo on the people who are giving you flack, girl!
@emsnedds - I don't want to pile onto your Canadian hate, but my cousin lived there during her last pregnancy. She was having a boy and said that they would not perform a circumcision there! They had to plan a trip to the US before he was X months old so that he could get circumcised.
@beanship - Someone will always have an opinion regardless of what you decide. Whether it be on team green, not sharing a name, or even sharing everything and they don't like your name choice. It's not their baby. Yes, it will get old. Just find ways to say something back to stop them from continuing down that path.
@acunamatada & @Sarafuss - I'm drinking a blonde caramel macchiato right now and it's SO good!!! This could be dangerous, there's a Starbucks between my DD's school and my house.....
also unrelated i keep overguessing every single stomach gurgle, twinge and hoping and praying it's baby i feel... sadly it never is. ugh stupid anterior placenta!!!
I’ve been trying to guess if it’s babt too! I’ll be 14 wks on Friday so i know it could still be early. With DS i didn’t feel fluttering till 16 wks. Sorry about your anterior placenta! Kicks are what i miss the most about being pregnant. Hope you feel them sooner this time around!
I told my Aunt I was naming my son River and she said “I like the name Forrest.” Lol... cool, I do, too, but maybe next time. People will always find a reason to disagree with you. @beanship
@lindsayleigh1989 I hope you get to feel it sooner than you think! I know it’s more common to feel it early if you’ve already felt it before but ever since my doctor asked me if I’ve felt any movement yet, I keep questioning everything! I think I’ve been feeling little movements but don’t feel confident that it’s not just my body twitching lol.
@ckmb_knottie YES!!! It blows their minds when I say that I wouldn't do anything differently even if I knew.
@MichelleAG05 This is definitely preparing me for the fact that people think they have the right to question my parenting decisions! I'm trying to come up with a clever response so I don't have to explain my reasoning every time.
@hillbillywife I know, people are just so nosy and hate being made to wait!
@wildtot I had a croissanwich from Burger King for breakfast. I know it's technically "breakfast food" but still. No shame though. It was delicious.
@SmashJam I have had a good spinach salad that had everything yours has but add bacon and shredded parmesan cheese. Bacon might not go over well if MIL is a health nut but I think parm is a safe cheese option? My other go to would be feta but I think that's on the no no list.
@kissableviv thank you for sharing the Moroccan stew recipe, I'm excited to make it.
I'm also from Europe and we don't do all the showers and extra parties like gender reveal. I have lived in the US for most of my life now but I still find it awkward to have such a self involved party and be the center of attention like that.
@MichelleAG05@emsnedds born and raised Canadian here and I can say while I've been team green the last two times the techs offered to tell me the sex of the baby at my 18 week ultrasound... and we didn't have our boys circumcised but it was offered both at the hospital and my doctors office... must depend on what part of Canada you live in!
@runsomewhere granted I haven't looked at other countries.. it does seem like mainly a US thing for people to have Gender (sex) reveal parties. My husband isn't a fan but watching other people have them is cute.
I need to think abiut what to have for lunch. It cant have too much carb or sugar because im having my glucose test at 5. Im also afraid of having a salad because of the whole leafy greens making people sick. Ugh.

@runsomewhere I didn't take it that way! I wanted to say that as clarification on my side, not for us, but I don't have negative thoughts for other people doing it.
@KatyF0813 that actually is really encouraging. I currently live in Cape Breton, but I feel like if I expand my horizons and drive a little ways out of town I can find a doctor that will tell me the gender for free. Maybe I can post on the “moms of Cape Breton” Facebook page and see if any other moms know which doctors can tell me and which ones cannot.
@hayhay93 I can’t remember if I already told you already or not, but I love the name River!!! Don’t let anyone change your mind
@KatyF0813 - ah, good to know! They were living in St. John's at the time. Probably not many options out there!
Wait, isn't is early for a glucose test? Or am I remembering all wrong? I've got to lay off the leftover Christmas candy if it's soon!
I also think we should all come up with one-liners for @beanship to use. LOL Maybe "We're anticipation junkies" or "Funny! I made the decision just to drive you crazy!" (Honestly, I wanted to be Team Green when pregnant with #1 so I asked around. Every single person I spoke to who had more than 1 child and had done it both ways said it was WAY cooler in the delivery room for the birth that was Team Green, including both men and women.)
@nimmle, don't worry, I plan on having a slice of panettone (traditional Italian sweet Christmas bread) with a large home made latte! @beanship "I don't like that at all" , well luckily it's not their life so they don't have to like it! @SmashJam I've had lots of goat cheese, oops! I think the kind I get at trader Joe's is pasteurized.
DH woke up sick. I was terrified it may be the flu but he had no fever and said he had no stomach flu symptoms but he was cold and said he had stomach pains. I think he has indigestion...he insisted on having ice cream yesterday ("saved calories" for it), it was past 10pm and I think the chocolate kind he had was just old and has been in and out of the freezer for probably 6 weeks. He seems to be doing better but has said "I'm dying " 4 times already
@amylu914 that sounds perfect! And she suffers through bacon! @kissableviv i am sure its actually fine, just like lunch meat is usually fine, but its just one of those things that CAN make you sick, so they tell you to avoid.
@SmashJam - that the experience was cooler. Mostly that it just added a level of excitement that helped to ease normal labor pains, gripes, worries, etc.
@MichelleAG05 yes, it is earlier than most people get the glucose test. I'm not sure of the reason for others, but for me (mine is Monday) I have to be tested early since I have had GD in all my prior pregnancies. Most people get tested between 24-28 weeks. If I pass this one at 12 weeks I still have to be tested again around 28 weeks (or sooner if I am showing symptoms).
