Re: Weekly Questions 12/4

  • @Poppy0419 oh no!  I’m glad they’re treating you, though. Please keep us posted.

  • I have a question about weight gain if anyone has any insight. I forgot to ask my provider at my appointment. I started out at an obese classified weight and the recommended weight gain in total is 10 to 20 lbs I believe from Google. I lost 5 in my first trimester and since the second trimester I've gained that 5 back. This may sound trivial but weight gain is a huge anxiety of mine. Since I'm only at my pre pregnancy weight now, does that mean I can still gain the 10 to 20 or that I've gained 5 already? I know some people are like who cares? But this is very anxiety inducing for me and I have to always watch my weight or I will just explode up.
  • @gildah thank you. Weight has been an issue my whole life and I even worry about creating issues for my child due to weight. Luckily I'm a healthy person otherwise. But anyway, thank you.
  • @charlestonchew in my mind, I would count the 5 as total weight gained so far. I’m like @gildah though. I gained almost 50 pounds with DS then I “lost” 30 pounds in 2 weeks after having him.

  • Thank you everyone :)
  • Has anyone tried a support belt for RLP? I have an office job so I don't really need it at work but evenings and weekends chasing a toddler are really kicking my RLP into high gear.

Thinking about it. Past couple of days have been pretty bad.

  • Some chiropractors do a thing called “Webster technique”. It releases your round ligaments. It also helps with symphysis pubis pain
  • Question about baby movement. Earlier this week I was finally certain i felt baby moves, I felt slight taps on the outside. Past day I have not. Now I even drank some caffeine and had sugary things, I laid down and still don’t feel any dostictive moves. Anytime I feel like it might have been a wiggle, I start doubting it was gas. I am 17 weeks 5 days right now.
Anyone has felt the movement and then it was quiet for a while?

  • I have an effing anterior placenta and have felt nada. (20 weeks tomorrow). Totally not fair because I can more than feel all my gas bubbles and other pains and stretches.  I just want a little kick every now and then.  Is that too much to ask?

I felt flutters early on. Like 13 weeks I think? Now I barely ever feel LO and it drives me bonkers! The only time they get really active is when I’m exhausted and am laying down about to sleep. I felt J constantly from 15 weeks on, so this is tripping me up a good bit.

    Totally normal.

  • I felt baby before 12 weeks and then a few weeks ago I felt worried that I couldn’t feel him as often and when I did it didn’t feel as strong as my girls were at this point. At my AS last week I found out I have an anterior placenta, which I didn’t have with the girls, so that explains that.

  • @justsuzie I had an anterior placenta with DD. I couldn’t really feel her until 23/24 weeks. It drove me nuts and then she’d keep me up all night partying in there. It’ll happen!
  • Just catching up after the weekend, @poppy0419 I'm so sorry you're still dealing with this, but I hope you're getting some relief and, hopefully, some answers!  @lincbeesmom Glad you called your dr and everything seems okay!  @charlestonchew I agree with others that say weight can only be controlled so much during pregnancy.  Your body knows what it needs, and while I admire you for being cognizant of it, I hope you are able to not stress too much about it.  @onesmallcoconut I had a support belt when I was pregnant with the girls, and for me, it was life-changing.  There are tons of different options out there, but this is similar to the one I got:

  • @charlestonchew same boat here basically. Started obese, lost 8 lbs in the first tri. I have gained 6 of them back in the second tri. I figure all I can do is pay attention to my diet as best I can, and exercise as much as I’m comfortable with. The rest isn’t really up to me. It’s hard when you are already overweight/obese to see the scale go up and not immediately panic but my dr has been very reassuring that steady and slow weight gain is perfectly healthy and normal. She also said losing weight slowly is ok and staying the same is ok. As long as I’m doing what I’m supposed to do and feeling good the rest is up to nature. This is what I keep telling myself.
  • My boobs have been growing quite a bit over the last few weeks and suddenly my bras feel really uncomfortable. I have big boobs to start with which means finding bras that fit is hard and usually expensive, so I'm a little hesitant to go out and buy new ones now when I don't know how much I might keep growing before this is all done. But I also don't want to be uncomfortable forever! What are you ladies doing to manage to boob growth situation?
  • @thunderberry, I'm in the same situation!  Mine are uncomfortable, but still fitting-mostly, anyway LOL  I think last pregnancy I got one of those "comfort" sports-bra style type of bra that came in S, M, L, XL sizing instead of band and cup size.  It was comfortable, but I have to admit I was super happy to put my normal underwire bra back on when I was done nursing, though.

  • I haven't stayed the same size longer than six months in four years.  I have two soft stretchy ones that are okay for around the house right now.  I hate buying new bras, they're so expensive in my size and won't fit in six months.  I'm hoping some of the ones I used after #2 was born still fit, but I was a totally different size after #2 than after #1 so I'm not sure.

  • @thunderberry with DD I switched to supportive nursing bras around 20ish weeks, but this one I'm going to have to switch in like a week. They're not the prettiest things, but the Lamaze nursing ones (not soft, but no underwire) did the trick. They come in sizing like S, M, L, XL which helped a lot.

  • @thunderberry and @loko08 in my pre-baby naive days, I was so sure I would buy and wear all the "cute" nursing bras I saw in stores.  Yeah....not even close.  The underwire and non-flexible sizing does not go well with boobs that change size almost literally by the minute, depending on whether it was before or after a feeding.

  • I've never in my life fit into a cute bra lolol.

DH has promised I can get a reduction once we're 100% sure we're done with kids.

@sandbar517 I had that issue with nursing tanks - before a feeding (or after 3 hours) my boobs would be coming out the side, and after there would be a ton of extra fabric. It was really attractive, let me tell you.

  • @thunderberry I bought new ones a few weeks ago.  With DS, I did the same thing and I was okay until I needed to switch to nursing bras once he was born.
  • I went into a maternity store and they thought it was too early for me to be buying a nursing bra (which is all they sold) but suggested I try a bra extender to tide me over for a little bit.  I grabbed some at Victoria Secret and it's not perfect, but it definitely helps!
  • TMI medical question: I suspect I *might* have a BV infection, which *TW* Dr Google says may cause 2nd trimester loss *END TW*. My next appointment is not until Jan. 8th. I just spoke with the nurse at my OBs office and they are prescribing me antibiotics without seeing me. The nurse said it is safe to take, even if I don't have BV. Is that normal?  I'm not 100% comfortable taking it without an actual diagnosis. Since I've already called my doctor's office, I'm not sure what else to do. Am I being overly cautious? Should I just trust the nurse? I've had BV before and I'm honestly not sure if that's what this is. The nurse even said it could be "normal pregnancy" symptoms. Ugh.

@desertdweller21 I just went through this same scenario, almost exactly, but not quite.  When I talked to my midwives, they said they test for it because it can increase the risk of pre-term labor, but not necessarily 2nd trimester loss (although if the pre-term labor is early enough, of course.....)  They actually tested me for it, and my test came back positive.  They wanted to put me on antibiotics, even though I have no symptoms and most of the medical journal articles I read (not just random web articles or blogs) said that treating asymptomatic patients is not recommended because some of the treatments for BV have just as high a risk of causing pre-term labor as the BV itself.  They wanted to put me on Flagyl which I've taken before and I'm convinced is the WORST medicine ever invented as far as side effects go, so I fought with them until they agreed to do clindamycin instead.  Honestly, I didn't want to take the Flagyl because of my horrid experience with it in the past, and ultimately decided that if they could give me a more "pleasant" antibiotic, I would rather follow their recommendations than feel the guilt if I did have pre-term labor and would forever wonder if the antibiotic could have changed the outcome.  All that being said, if you truly are worried you have it, but don't want to take the antibiotics without a diagnosis, could you go to your regular PCP or an urgent care and have them test you for it?  That might put your mind at ease over whether you need the antibiotics or not.

Also, to answer your question about being given prescriptions for something without being seen by staff, the answer is yes, if it's something like a UTI, BV, yeast infection- especially if the patient says, "I've had it before and I'm pretty sure this is what it is", it's been my experience that a lot of doctors don't have a problem prescribing antibiotics without seeing the patient first.

  • @sandbar517 Thanks, I think I will call my regular gyno (though I know they won't perform pap smears during pregnancy, so I'm not sure if they will for this either). I completely trust my gyno and my RE, but I've only seen this OB since week 12 or so (my regular gyno does not do OB). I'm just paranoid because I'm honestly not sure if I even have it. And *TW* this is my 4th pregnancy (FTM) so I think I'm potentially being more paranoid than needed.
