This is a total TMI post but I’m desperate so read at your own risk.
Most of you know I’ve been insanely sick for weeks now. It started with a stomach bug and UTI that went away after antibiotics. Then I had something related that they still can’t diagnose. It started with a 103 degree fever a few weeks ago. I thought i was getting the flu so I went in and was tested. Flu, strep and UTI all came back normal. Then I started getting horrible diarrhea. Even water set it off. I went to see my OB the day after the walk in clinic and they ran blood work that came back normal and gave me fluids because I was dehydrated really bad. They put me on Zofran and Phenergan because I was miserable and told me it should pass fairly quick. It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’m still not any better. I can barely eat. My like intestines hurt all the time but now they’re also sore from all this work they’ve been doing. I’m on vacation with my family and I’m currently laying in bed with a heating pad and water because I’m miserable. I’m so at a loss of what to do anymore. Imodium helps but i don’t think taking it for weeks on end is good especially when this needs to apparently run its course. I’ve lost 15lbs now. I started at 115lbs so I’m basically a miserable sick dehydrated skeleton at this point.
I don’t even know what my question is at this point. I just need help and the doctors can’t find anything wrong. I’m desperate for relief.
@Poppy0419 I’m sorry you’re going through this. My mom went through something similar last year. They couldn’t find anything wrong. They even checked for stomach and colon cancer but everything kept coming back all clear. The only thing that helped and ended up stopping the whole thing was when one of her doctors suggested that she eat applesauce with nutmeg. I know you probably want better advice but I’m just sharing what helped my mom. She had also lost like 20 pounds from constant diarrhea. She was scared to eat anything.
@Poppy0419 have they checked to see if it is C-Diff? It’s common to get after taking antibiotics. I wonder if it’s worth asking. I’ll be thinking of you.
@poppy0419 holy shit, that sounds awful, I'm so sorry! I'm not a doctor, but drawing from my limited knowledge, have they looked at your white blood cell count to see if that might indicate some sort of undiagnosed infection? Or is there any consideration to maybe doing an MRI or something to see if (god forbid) there may be something more serious causing it? Is there any Crohn's or colitis in your family? After this much time it doesn't seem acceptable for your doctors to brush it off as "who knows, oh well".
@Poppy0419 this is awful. I’m so sorry you are going through it. My SIL who is about 20 weeks had a similar issue. Her OB had her stay 3 days at the hospital on constant fluids and Tylenol until she could semi function and then bed rest at home for 3 more days while forcing fluids. I don’t think she ever got an official diagnosis. Basically every terrible pregnancy symptom at once plus some kind of sinus infection. I know this probably isn’t super helpful but maybe a hospital and fluids could do the trick for you as well.
They haven’t checked for anything bacterial yet but I’ll definitely push that at my appointment next Tuesday. I think once I get home I’m just going to ask to be admitted. I’m having to go in for fluids anyways so might as well stay and rest. They haven’t admitted me because DH has been on a business trip still. Though if he says again his stomach is always like this he might not be alive to matter anyways.
@lincbeesmom just sent my stepdad out for applesauce and nutmeg. As weird as that sounds I’m willing to try anything.
@thunderberry theres no family history of anything but I’m going to push for further testing. They did a CBC panel and it came back normal so I’m at a loss there too.
@mileswithmyles that thought had crossed my mind before. It’s probably worth asking especially because the ER prescribed the antibiotics and not my OB so maybe I didn’t communicate that well enough.
@bjkay22 do I even want to ask how long it took her to get better? I’m just not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel here.
@poppy0419 my first thought was c-diff as well but if your CBC came back normal without an elevated white count that’s kind of weird. I’m so sorry girl, I really hope you get some answers soon!! Hang in there!
@Poppy0419 I wish I had something helpful to say, but just wanted to say I’m thinking of you and really hope you get well soon. I hope you get admitted as soon as you get home and the doctors figure out what is going on.
Princess @Poppy0419 I am so sorry you are going through this. I second the c-diff suggestion. I had it for six months and it was miserable, I was so weak...I cannot even imagine going through something similar while pregnant. I know we can't help you too much, but just know that we are thinking of you and hoping your condition improves soon.
@Poppy0419 well her symptoms all started piling up and not going away over the course of 2-3 weeks. A lot was blamed on stress due to some other things going on in her life. It was about 3 weeks when it all culminated and we went to visit her and she could barely speak or open her eyes. Let alone force fluids. She is semi lucky and works at her hospital so we just took her phone and texted her OBGYN and he called labor and delivery and had her admitted straight away. After her hospitalization and her 3 days of bed rest she felt probably 50 percent human. It’s now been about 10 days since she’s been released to live normal life and she said it’s still a struggle to function every day. No more fever but she still has a lot of the other symptoms. I would say she’s still probably only at 50 percent but she’s getting a little strength back.
@bjkay22 that’s kinda where I’m at with it. A week of bedrest helped so much. But the stomach issues aren’t going away and I’m super weak. Like still in my PJs. My momma has my kid. I can’t function weak.
@kpc914 6 MONTHS?! Oh my lord. I can’t imagine. 2 weeks so far has been insane hell. The weakness and almost like I’m so empty I’m sore is what’s the worst right now.
But I can feel baby fluttering right now so that’s helping me know she’s okay.
@poppy0419 I don't have much to contribute either, but always follow your instincts. If your doctor keeps telling you there isn't anything wrong, go somewhere else. Go to another doctor, another ER, whatever you have to do. Doctors aren't perfect, they make mistakes, they miss things. Just because they aren't finding a "common" cause of your symptoms doesn't mean you're making it up. I hope you start to feel better soon, and get some answers.

@Poppy0419 I don't really have anything helpful to add. I just want to say that I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I hope you can get some relief soon and hopefully answers too!
@Poppy0419 yikes that sounds terrible. I'm so sorry and I'm thinking of you. Have you thought about going to an alternative medicine doctor?? I know it's not always popular, but sometimes they have the weirdest/best ways to treat symptoms that doctors don't always think of. It can sometimes take a bit to diagnose but it might be worth a shot? Wishing you lots of luck!
@lincbeesmom glad you called your doctor! I hope he/she could give you some guidance. For me, RLP is a strong, acute pain. It most often get it when I sneeze while lying down. It's intense but a short duration.
@Poppy0419 I hope the doctors at the hospital can figure out what is going on. Thinking of you.
Oh Princess @Poppy0419 I’m so sorry you’re so sick. I hope this trip to the hospital helps you feels better, and allows you to heal, once they figure out the why’s and the how’s that is.
For me, round ligament pain is similar to a terrible stitch you get from running, only worse and lower down. It’s a really sharp and severe pain. I’m glad you called your doctor. I’m sure everything is fine, but period cramps and back pain always warrant a call IMHO.
And there was a small dot of blood (like tiny, like probably just from an itch I scratched or something) on the toilet paper after I peed so of course now I’m paranoid
@lincbeesmom glad you called the doctor!! It’s worth it going into the weekend. I never had RLP with my first but this time around, oh boy. Sharp sudden pain. Usually when moving too quickly (jumping up off the couch). You could have muscle soreness from all the stretching!

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking it is. No blood and (TMI) i pooped in case it was pressure from that. I’m just lying down now and DS is watching videos on his phone so I can get a little rest while I wait for my OBs offic to call back.
@Poppy0419 I'm sorry that yo are so sick!!! I hope they can give you answers
@lincbeesmom I've been thinking about calling my midwife today because I'm having the sort of crampy, stretchy pains that I didn't get until way later last pregnancy. My belly feels much bigger all of a sudden so I made myself feel better by saying the baby is growing but I'm still a little worried. Let us know what your OB says!
They called back and don’t seem to concerned. I don’t have any bleeding or other fluid and the pain is really minor. She said it just sounds like stretching so she suggested a belly band and to stay hydrated and to call back if I have any other concerns. I have my anatomy scan on Tuesday so at least I have an appointment soon.
Being transported to a hospital with an OB to admit me. Not the coolest ambulance ride but I’m feeling a little better thanks to Zofran dilaudid and fluids

Thanks for keeping us updated! Hope they find the source of the problem
Good luck @Poppy0419. So sorry you are dealing with this! The only thing I would add is that if it is C-diff, Imodium is not recommended and can lead to serious complications. I am NOT a healthcare professional. I just used to work for an attorney who handled elderly neglect cases and we had several c-diff cases. With the elderly, immodium often lead to prolonged illness, sepsis, etc.
@Poppy0419 yikes!! That is intense and kinda scary. So glad you're in the care of medical professionals though! Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping someone figures out what's going on! (P.S. I love that your bumping through all this lol - but also thank you for the updates!) Get well soon!

I feel like I’m having period cramps and my lower back aches but its constant. Not something I can time like a contraction.
Eta: called my doctor since it’s friday and don’t want to be stressing all weekend long
@Poppy0419 I hope the doctors at the hospital can figure out what is going on. Thinking of you.
