Questions w/o 11/27

Re: Questions w/o 11/27

  • I hadn't even considered the swimming issue!! Ugh.
  • Loading the player...
  • @noideawhatshesdoing I didn't either, then for a second I was confused like "guys swimming during pregnancy is totally fine."

  • I'm excited that I finally get to float in our pool with a giant belly this summer. At least I'll get that so not being able to do it after won't seem so bad. Geez, but how do I do the pool the following year with THREE kids? Hopefully DD will learn how to swim before that.

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • You guys. This thread is awesome today. I applaud you all. I'm basically a cat and don't like getting my hair wet in the pool, so I'm not a big swimmer. I will, however, totally be on board with @busymommy23 and getting my wine on poolside... maybe rocking one of those fan/ sprayers like the super cool 90's/ 2000's kid I am.

Adding to the questions, though, anyone else finding they're losing weight, not gaining, and getting a little freaked out by it?

  • @zg49 hmmm....there's a broken hose in my backyard
  • 6 weeks no swimming after baby!?!? I haven't even thought about that!  :|

Also I have a question...is lower back pain (localized to one side) a normal pregnancy symptom? I assumed there may be lower back pain but not until late in the pregnancy. I’ll be 6 weeks tomorrow and my back is really bothering me today.
  • Omg. Dreams crushed. I was looking forward to swimming as well. Although, who am I kidding, I only swim in the cold Pacific ocean in late August. So maybe I can enjoy a dip then. Guess I'll have to make sure to visit the in laws in Texas as soon as we can since they have a sweet pool! It's not too hot here until mid July so hopefully the heat is not a huge issue. Yay for summer dresses!

@zande2016 I work from home for a small company. Thankfully, it's run by women. I'm going to HQ next week and staying 5 days. Holiday dinner will be then as well. I plan on telling my boss even though I'll be 9ish weeks because I think it's considerate since I'm the only one in my position. Also, I might not be able to take tooooo much time since it's a small company so I'd like a plan sooner rather than later so I can make arrangements. Hubby has 8weeks paid paternity leave so that's amazing! At least I work from home so hoping I can manage with part time help.
  • @nimmle Perfect! That's basically the same thing.

@d_marie_23 It's totally normal especially if you don't have much of an appetite or if you've been throwing up.. In most cases it isn't anything to worry about! I actually don't mind it so much because then I don't gain as much weight that I have to "try" and lose after baby. Don't worry though - your body will make up for it later! My last pregnancy I was gaining 2lbs a week the last 8 weeks.  :/

@ashbub714 I've been having this pain too and I remember it from previous pregnancies as well and yes it is normal. If it becomes unbearable or is accompanied by spotting/bleeding, you should check with your dr. I got some relief this week by going to my chiropractor and getting adjusted.

  • @sm05-2 With my last two pregnancies I was on daily Prilosec and that really helped. I think most OTC are safe (except Pepto).

  • Adding to the questions, though, anyone else finding they're losing weight, not gaining, and getting a little freaked out by it?
Unless you started out significantly underweight or your doctor is concerned I think it's no biggie and common. A lot of women lose in the first tri due to MS, food aversions and decreased appetite. The baby will take what it needs to develop.

  • @zg49 thank you for the response! It always makes me feel better to hear what I’m going through is normal.  :)
  • @ashbub714 same. I was freaking out because it felt like the same back pain I get for menstrual cramps, but apparently its normal.
  • @ashbub714 if it is low back and more on one side that sounds a lot like sciatic pain which tends to be one side rather than both and yes mine has already flared up too :(

  • @sm05-2 I've heard good things about papaya enzyme as a natural aid for heartburn
  • @Duckie07 I actually had that thought initially too!

@lindsayleigh1989 oh I’ve heard that word but have no clue what it is. I’m going to have to look that up. It is low, almost to my butt, just on the right side. It’s crazy to think pains like that start now when the baby is so tiny!
  • @ashbub714 definitely sounds like sciatic! I started getting that too recently, thankfully not super painful yet but it was with my last pregnancy
  • @d_marie_23 I always joke that pregnancy is the best diet for me. MS hit hard with my first two and I actually never made it back up to my pre-pregnancy weight with #2.
  • Thanks for the reassurance @zg49 @runsomewhere The doctors have me on the cusp of "underweight" and had told me to gain a little to help conceive, so of course that was ringing in my ears looking at the scale. It just totally threw me for a loop. It's so true what they say about pregnancies being different. My son's pregnancy I started gaining before I even found out I was pregnant, lol.

@ashbub714 Definitely a normal symptom, albeit a totally awful one. Before I knew I was pregnant with my son I was certain I was on the cusp of throwing my back out. It was roughly at the 6 week mark, too. I took my heating pad EVERYWHERE. Tennis balls help a TON if you lay on your side with the the ball under where the glut dimples, also sitting upright with it just below the butt to hit the hamstring tendon. Hope you feel better!

  • Has anyone been to their first OB appointment and been told they do not do a first trimester screening unless you have high risk for Down syndrome, etc? I was told since I am not high risk, they wait until 16 weeks and just do AFP Tetra. I thought there was always screening in the first tri...
  • @d_marie_23 I’m going to have to try the tennis ball trick! Thank you!
  • @ckmb_knottie There's an NT scan you could get late 1st tri that can test for DS (not sure about other problems). It's not a standard, but some insurances cover it. Unless your higher risk most insurances won't cover any extensive testing.

I was the same weight the day I gave birth as I was the day I found out I was pregnant with DD and left the hospital over 10lbs lighter. So much vomitting.
  • @blair_krank @eagregg Oh my gosh! That both is awesome yet the absolute worst. Cheers to hoping you ladies don't get as sick this time around!

  • @sm05-2 apple cider vinegar for heartburn is a home remedy that has worked for me. Sounds counterintuitive, but it totally helps.

has anyone else found out they are not rubella immune?
    April Siggy Challenge Social Distancing

  • @lindsayleigh1989 i was not rubella immune my last pregnancy. They gave me the vaccine as soon as he was born, while I was still in the hospital. You can't get it while pregnant so you just have to hope you aren't exposed to it during pregnancy, not much else you can do.
  • @ckmb_knottie I've never had an issue with getting my NT scan covered by insurance, but I guess it depends on your plan and insurance company.  If it is important to you I would ask to have the NT scan done despite not being "high risk".

    **TW**

I'm not trying to scare anyone but I was not high-risk (29 years old at the time with no history of chromosomal issues with my other babies) and my daughter had a not-compatible-with-life chromosomal abnormality.  So for me, I do the testing regardless of my age.  Also, with her, we had an abnormal NT scan but normal AFP bloodwork at 16 weeks.  So I don't rely on the AFP alone.  Again, I don't want to worry anyone because her situation was VERY rare.  But I also think the thought that just because you aren't 35 or older you don't need to do NIPT.  Of course, only do the testing if it is important to you.  Some people would rather not.  And now I'm just rambling!

  • The NT scan is standard in California if any of you asking are from here. I don't remember if or how much we were charged for it but it's part of the genetic screening protocol that the state promotes.

Question as I sit here and not freak myself out. It is normal to possibly just see an empty sac if it is only measuring 5w 4d right? I know I posted in the u/s thread but after my wonderful friend started asking if they mentioned a blighted ovum and a few other things, my mind...which was quite content in waiting until the 11th foe my next appt...is now racing and I am trying to save myself the horror of google just because I dont want to cause myself even more worry. I was supposed to be 6w 1d but that wasnt what the sac was measuring and she said she didnt have a clear view with either abdominal or vaginal ultrasound. She said its possibky just too early. Can someone talk me down from the google ledge please!

Sidenote: totally blaming my friend for putting these thoughts into my head. It hadnt even struck me until she brought them.up.

  • @busymommy23 totally normal! Your dates are most likely off, at 5+4 I wouldn't expect to
see much more than a sac. I had an u/s at 5+2 and that's all they saw. Fetal pole + (sometimes) hb starts becoming visible around the 6wk mark, a few days makes a huge difference this early

Thank you! Its been quite some time since Ive been down this road and with having been trying for 2 years for this little one, it has my emotions all over the place. Im sure my friend didnt mean to make me worry but it did.

  • @zande2016 I would tell your boss ahead of time, so they can have time to process. That way when you make your announcement to everyone else at the office you can just enjoy it instead of watching your boss for a reaction (and your boss can just be happy for you in that moment instead of feeling stressed, which might in turn make you feel stressed).
  • ::staying out of the water next summer::
  • @blair_krank @eagregg Oh my gosh! That both is awesome yet the absolute worst. Cheers to hoping you ladies don't get as sick this time around!
In the cruelest trick of all, I gained a ton of weight breastfeeding. Between not having eaten well for 8 months and all the extra calories I was burning, I was ravenous.
  • Is anyone else scared to tell work about your pregnancy? August is the busiest month of the year for us so it is not an ideal time to be out. I know my boss will be nice about it but my jerk co-workers will be mad they have to help cover for me.
  • @limoncat I was called out by one of my managers on Wednesday because I asked to take an extended lunch for a doctor appt, who then outed me in front of my other manager. I was nervous at first, because like you said, I'll be out during the busy time. I know my coworkers will be pissy, but I say fuck em. My managers are happy for me.
  • I am super nervous to tell work because I am fairly new (started in March) and my boss is the one who will have to do all my work while I am out. We also actually have a really generous leave policy (5 months paid plus 2 months after leave you can have your kids stay in the company day caredownstairs for free so you can see them and feed them and what not) so it’s like a long chunk of time I might be leaving him to do all of our work for (and he basically just hired me to make his life easier). I know he will be supportive and it’s a huge fortune 50 company so he has to be, but I still feel really bad about it and keep putting it off.
  • @Duckie678 I like your approach. Truthfully I don't even like my coworkers, so oh well if they have to do some extra work. My workload can probably be spread between about 10 people, so its not like its a huge inconvenience to anyone. I am kind of glad to miss the busy season anyway. @devilcat139 your leave policy sounds amazing! It sucks for your boss, but maybe he can get temporary help or something? That is tough.
  • Anyone have any advice on telling your boss the news?

I work as an assistant manager at a large/high pressure jewelry chain store and my immediate manager is like family and already knows, as does the rest of my team. They are all excited for me but I am hesitant to tell my district manager as she is very intense and never had children of her own. I am also planning on stepping down from my position and switching to part time after the baby comes. I'll probably only want to work 1 or 2 days a week when I come back. I'm nervous because 2 of the women I work with were recently pregnant and came back very soon after and immediately resumed business as usual. They didn't have the financial freedom to decide otherwise but I'm worried that by going against what they did I'll be looked down on by my district manager for not be committed to the company or that my ambition will be called into question.

Any one dealing with anything similar or have any advice it'd be greatly appreciated!
