OMG so I have a pregnancy app that I read just for the train wreck posts (all unicorns and glitter and "does this look positive?" and shit) and the women on there with the "How do I not drink alcohol but look like I'm drinking?" Kill me. I don't get it. I'm just not a "wine mom" I guess. I currently live in a "dry village" and alcohol is not allowed (like most prohibition type stuff though there is a massive problem with alcohol, FAS, and alcoholism here) so I don't have to give reasons for not drinking, but even whenI lived places where alcohol was fine, I just didn't drink. No one noticed, no one cared, I just said no.
@christycalifornia. Sorry i just noticed your post. I completely agree with the way you handled that situation. You were still teaching her cause n effect and allowing her some independence. Or at least you bent it to your will. Lol. I guess I should have specified. I think too many parents cave into their kids too easily because they just dont want to deal with the tantrum. Instead of using it as a learning opportunity. Drives me crazy, especially bc I feel close to them, like friends, but also work FOR them so its completely not my place to correct.
@mybell524 Totally get that. I grew up watching my cousins turn into spoiled brats because they were never told "no", and spent years babysitting where the kids would listen to me and not their parents. Tantrums not only can't be given into, they have to be deescalated or redirected. I knew what you meant. I just wanted to throw my nose in there because I don't take the bait on every fight and don't let them get to the fight stage because I don't think every fight is worth it. But yeah, once they start, the fight it worth it. Man, is it hard to stick to sometimes! I'm constantly having to remind my husband not to give in and to deescalate.

I guess she’s a hardcore drinker and it would give it away if she didn’t? Idk lol i would just say i don’t feel like it.
Tagging on that topic my UO - i don’t get the wine mom thing. I see posts about it all the time. I personally just don’t depend on alcohol to unwind or relax no matter the stress of the day. To each their own so cheers with my glass of milk!
MY UO: I don't get ready for Christmas until December 1st! No decorations. No music. No presents (1 because I hate shopping, 2 my family lacks giving ideas for gifts..)
UO: We love our Elf on a Shelf. I would NEVER give a gift a day. That is ridiculous. I will also never be the one who sets elaborate scenes for our elf, but I will do something easy and fun. Our elf brings a Christmas book the first day he is here and leaves Christmas pj’s on Christmas Eve with a note about how good she’s been. K
Our elf is showing up for the first time next week right before thanksgiving to bring a gift basket full of big sister books and a tshirt for DD (2.5yr). That's how we are telling her about our LO!
@AKFarmerBecky is it the What to Expect app? that one is full of train wreck posts! also I dont know how anyone has community there it is all one off posts and repeats because they cant keep anything straight over there
@AKFarmerBecky So, for some people it’s a very social group norm thing. For me: when I met DH I would always have the worst attitude because they drank a lot and I grew up not drinking, I just didn’t see the point and why it was necessary. I’ve changed my ways, I was just taught growing up that it was almost a bad thing. But living in Louisiana it’s pretty much a way of life for people (Its known for its crazy Mardi Gras parties). We’ve been to many “get togethers” at peoples houses where we’ll know to bring a case of beer. It’s not that we’re aiming to get sloppy drunk, just down here when you picture Louisiana life, relaxing equals sitting outside most likely watching a football game, grilling or having a crawfish boil while drinking beer. There are plenty of people who don’t do it and they aren’t weird or frowned upon. Just, I think the mass majority do. And, my friend’s dad owned a daqiri shop, opening night she was pregnant but not announcing. She was nervous people would know so she drank water out of a styrafoam cup all night (what everyone was was drinking out of) so she blended in. -sorry long post. I have seen some moms on this board express their worry that friends would question or pick up them not drinking when going out. Hope that adds some insight for you! eta last sentence
@lindsayleigh1989 I find that “Baby Center” has some pretty rough ones. Although I went to “Yahoo Questions” and that was a doozy. Sort of blast from the past and made me realize, no matter how rough I think my life is someone is worse off. Literally a story (summed up) I read on there just the other day: My boyfriend and I had a pretty intense make out session the other day while we were in our underwear. He sort of went inside me while my panties were on and precum got on my panties. DO YOU THINK IM PREGNANT?? Even better one: my boyfriend and I had a heavy make out session, but we didn’t have sex. I was suppose to start on *said day* but I started two days early. It’s been two months since and I’ve had two periods. I’m really starting to panic here. Do you think I’m pregnant? Wish I could make this up. I save them for rainy days when I need a laugh.

I have the glow app for this reason! Train wreck posts that make me laugh and say WTF!?!?! at the same time. On the flip side though, when young girls write posts like these, then get really mean reaponses...come on...let's provide the facts for them, not be a meaniehead. I've read some straight up chisme (gossip) on that app.
@AKFarmerBecky see, for me that's the only reason I'm announcing to my mom and stepdad over Thanksgiving. Lol. I would normally use wine for cranberry sauce and then my mom and I would share the rest of the bottle, it's tradition, and when I refuse my glass I guarantee the "are you pregnant?" will come in about .5 seconds. And like, tomorrow, our friends invited us over for a bottling day (they make their own wine and beer), and will know something is up when I turn down sampling the batch. That's actually how they found out I was pregnant with my son. I say to each their own when it comes to alcohol, but the situation can definitely surpass the simplicity of 'just don't drink,' especially if they know you've been hoping to get pregnant but you don't want to announce yet.
