@sparklingdiamond I don't blame you in feeling nervous. I would be too and with everything you already have going on, the last thing you want to do is have to mentally be in a good place to make that kind of decision.
Jumping in the men v. women weight loss convo...soooo with ya'll, haha. However, I also noticed it takes DH a lot longer to gain the weight as well. He eats horribly, while I really try to eat clean and he never gains the weight. I look at junk food and gain 5 pounds lol. Men
Not to re-hash my dilemma with DH, but I thought this would be funny to share this story for those of you who followed my conversation about the issue. DH are on somewhat better terms now. I haven't completely gotten what I need in order to move on from the situation, but its getting there. Anyway, last night we had Chinese for dinner and got our fortune cookies. I always read them just for the fun of it, but as subjective as they are, most anyone can always relate to whatever it says...but still always fun to read. However, DH's read "With listening comes wisdom and with speaking, repentance." Too funny and so so accurate for our situation.....Then I open mine and it says "You are not one to be ignored." Oh MY GOD hahaha. So random, but hilarious as to how accurate they were for BOTH of us. I couldn't stop laughing.
So I decided against the amnio for today. I went ahead and did the bloodwork and we are going to start with that and then I can always do the amnio later if I decide. I feel good about the decision.

That is probably what I would have decided too. If your bloodwork comes back with very low chance of chromosome problems, then the amnio is overkill anyway.

Did you do the NIPT or the quad screen they typically offer around this point in pregnancy? (I'm just curious). I'm glad you came to a decision you feel good about!

@irenejean I still can (and will) take up to 12 weeks, per FMLA, it's just all unpaid. And I can probably take my sick leave, but like some of your mentioned, I'd like to keep a little of it for when baby gets sick/doctor appts, etc.

Guys, I’m being brave and taking DS to a new playground today. Maybe I’ll meet new Mom friends?! DD starts her home daycare today (just a few hours a week to give me a little break) so it’s just me and the boy. Pray to the gods of sociability that I won’t be awkward
@kmalls (creeper over here) If you're going to the one mentioned in the local FB group I want to know how it is! DD's school went on a field trip there over the summer but she missed it! I've heard great things!! And good luck with the other moms! fingers crossed!
@ekendall09 yes! You totally know who I am now! The playground was huge and awesome and you should definitely go. I met a mom of twin boys the same age as DS and she got my number. I feel like I’m finally a legit mom
@kmalls I definitely didn't put two and two together initially (i.e. that you were the one asking haha). That's awesome that you made a friend! i'll have to put it on my weekend list, especially given that its getting colder and indoor activities are only so exciting!
I asked my babysitter, who is also my DD's daycare teacher, if I might use her for childcare when I'm in labor. Told her not to answer me quite yet, and to think about it and any questions she may have. And we will reconvene after the holidays. She seemed very ok with it, made me feel better. Also, found a spare carseat a neighbor said I could borrow for her when I go into labor, in case DD is at school or she needs to take her the next morning.
It was a rough morning. DS wouldn't cooperate so I was already running way late. Then he cried hard at dropoff. I need a do-over.
If it makes you feel better, Wednesday is always our roughest drop-off day. I don't know why! This morning there were two other kids crying - the one was really melting down. Wednesdays are hard.
@ladythrice did you see that Cards Against Humanity actually bought land along the Mexico boarder, and hired an eminent domain lawyer, specifically to screw with the Trump plans for the wall?
Anyone have a recommendation for maternity tights? I got a pair from Motherhood my first pregnancy and they were the devil. Do comfortable maternity tights exist??
@kmalls I'm not sure what you mean by tights but I just bought a pair of maternity leggings from Blanqi. Right now they are 50% off. I'm hoping they turn out great. My friend swears by them
@mispanda lol yes, I mean nylons. The kind you wear with dresses and have feet. But the thicker kind you can wear in winter, not sheer and opaque. I call those tights.
Thanks, @JJMNO1616 and @Dumbgurl04. His teacher just texted me that he’s doing great, thank goodness. Now I’ll just go eat my feelings with a chocolate donut...
@kmalls preschool has been so great for each of my kids! I know it's tough (for you) but it has definitely been worth it for us. I'm glad he's doing well - my DD2 cried the entire first month when she started at 2 but after that absolutely loved it.

I just had an intensely random encounter on my lunchtime walk: a man strolling down the street holding a chicken with a harness and leash on. He held an old Chihuahua in his other arm.
Feeling pretty bummed right now because I just found out I likely will not be getting a raise this year. Apparently there is a freeze so no one I work with will be. I was really looking forward to having that little extra with the baby on the way. Sigh.
Oh man, I’m sorry @JJMNO1616. It’s such a letdown when raises don’t happen, and even more so when a baby is on the way. Hopefully they find other ways to show appreciation (like a big awesome gift) before you go out on maternity leave.

I’m not holding my breath but that would be nice! lol One of the things that really bugs me is I have had a suspicion that I am personally being underpaid compared to other coworks in the first place. This is my first year in the position so I haven’t wanted to say anything. Not getting a raise feels like an even bigger slap in the face. I would have a conversation with my boss about it at this point but considering I will be taking 3 months off after the baby arrives it feels like a weird time to bring it up.
@JJMNO1616 I am pretty sure I was underpaid for the first two years I was at my current firm. I really struggle with talking about money, and I knew I had to first prove myself before I could ask for more money. The next time around, I made it very clear I was displeased with both my bonus and base salary (my bonus is usually between 50-65% of my total compensation) and my boss was caught very flat-footed. I could tell he was a little concerned I had been talking to my (all-male) coworkers and tried to say while my base was lower my bonus equalized me. I didn't actually know my base was lower until he said that.
I just clearly stated that my stocks had outperformed my peers and that I wanted to get paid a fair market rate. So he came back a week later with a small but meaningful (to me) bump in my salary. A lot of comp is optics and what you bring. If you feel like you really contributed a lot to the table, I would try to have a follow up conversation on goals and targets to make it clear you delivered and expect to be compensated fairly in line with what the market is paying. It's SO hard to do, I know, but you deserve it.
The only thing is, I do think having a baby definitely complicates things in this country. I get my bonus in March and I am NOT looking forward to having that conversation with a giant belly staring us both in the face.
AFM, guys, I am realizing people touching my belly is going to be a problem. I have a friend who was so excited when I told her last week, she wouldn't stop touching my belly. I'm still not really showing yet, but I do get bloated at night and it kind of freaked me out to have her touch that. How do you keep people from touching you? It feels so invasive.
