I just officially ordered something for baby boys room with his name on it! It makes me so nervous and excited all at the same time! My husband has a favorite name that he’s been trying to get me to agree to for a while and I was being rebellious even though I liked the name too bc he wouldn’t give me any other options. So I’m going to surprise him when it comes in and I can’t wait to see how excited he gets
DH would like to use Amelia for our baby and I was on board before, but now doesn't quite feel like I'm carrying an Amelia. I said as much the other night to GMIL and DH gave me the funniest faux angry face for it haha He said it's funny to him that I am the name hold out this time. I just can't commit!
I love Amelia @flockofmoosen3, have you tried saying it out loud?
As of this moment we are leaning towards Joel Alexander (last name sort of sounds like paprika). I like the flow and I like that Joel is uncommon but still familiar and feels like a "real name" and not made up. My hesitation is that in general I'm not a huge fan of one syllable names.... Other names in the running are James (also 1 syllable) and Jacob. Apparently this kid is going to have a J name...
@KatyF0813 yes, I have said it a lot out loud and to the baby and written it down in pretty letters during coloring time at home...but it isn't feeling right. Today I said I like Katelyn.
@flockofmoosen3 Someone I know used Amelia and call her Mia (Me-Uh). I love both so much. @KatyF0813 Joel is a great name, and even at the Christian College I went to I only ever met 1 or 2 in the waves of biblical names. Great name.
@flockofmoosen3 i agree with PP. The name we have for our baby is Amelie (ah-muh-lee) Violet. I was starting to not like it until my sister suggested to start using Amelie instead of baby or little girl. It has helped me feel better about the name and has actually helped me bond a bit with her. It's so dang hard naming a kid!!!
Eta: just saw your latest post. Fx to finding the perfect fit for your lo!
Almost midnight and we're up discussing and playing with names. This poor baby is still nameless. Wish I could just name him Blubs -its- been our nickname since he was as big as a blueberry in his first ultrasound:)
@kissableviv my baby is nameless too. At this point we are thinking we will decide when we meet her. This week I am back to really liking Ariella for this baby but who knows.
By this time with DD her name was not only decided on but on the wall in her beautiful, totally completed nursery. I feel kind of bad.
@kissableviv We were having a really difficult time deciding on a name as well. Our nickname for him was Taco (or burrito) and it felt so normal to call him "Little Taco" that it seemed impossible to change it.
We had to get a little creative with names, because we wanted something easy for both my American family and our friends to pronounce (not to mention he would be most likely living in the USA) as well as it fit in with his Lithuanian family and their cultural naming norms. In Lithuania, boy names almost always end in -is, -us, or -as. At the same time we didn't want a "traditional" name for either Lithuania or the USA. We have finally settled on Ellis. We think it is hits all of the things we were looking for in a name
@whiskeyandtrouble I am having a similar problem because I am Italian and I want something easy for people there to pronounce, and also would love an Italian middle name. Right now of course what DH likes the most is 2 American names, and the first name is one that I love but that I am pretty sure my family will not like at all. GAH!
We thought we were settled on a name (I even bought something that was personalized) and then we saw another name that caught our eye and now we are torn! Ughhh it is so frustrating to be back to square one!
@whiskeyandtrouble LOVE Ellis! That was on my name board for a long time. It's a wonderful name.
@And846 Ohhhh HP names. I tortured DS by loving names like Remus, Abraxas (NN: Abe), and Orion. A big frontrunner was actually non HP, Harrison, but with Harry as a NN.
@d_marie_23@And846 I torture DH with HP names also, but also Game of Thrones names. It's super hard to find appealing boy names from GOT that are not also after a-holes. Joffery? Nope. And then the characters I like I don't like the names...Jon, Rob, Ned, GREYWORM, Tyrion. Although Loras and Jorah aren't the WORST...
@kissableviv I totally feel you pain about being worried the family will hate it! I refuse to tell my family. However, seeing as my parents will learn the name at the hospital once he has arrived I'm banking on them not caring that much because they will be so over the moon about their first grandchild. I at least know my husband's family likes it because he is terrible at keeping secrets and broke and told them
@SmashJam Hello, this is my son Greyworm... Sandor, haha. You're right on Loras and Jorah, pretty cool names, actually. And what, you wouldn't want to use Ramsay? (Kidding! Don't shoot!)
Alright ladies, here are the names we have so far in no particular order. I love Milo, but thinking family in Italy will think it's weird. I also love Oliver Luca as it checks all boxes (easy to pronounce+middle name is Italian). DH loves Milo and he keeps saying if we have a girl we could go with out choice of Maia Eleanor and have them be Milo and Maia LOL. Elliot is a new entry for us. Would be with one T because our last name ends with two Ts.
@kissableviv with @comealongponds...Milo Elliot is my fave as well! I also like the name Luca though, it was on our short list (of two names, lol). We didn't keep it as a middle name just in case we have a third and its another boy.
@whiskeyandtrouble and @kissableviv I feel your struggle. We had to deal with the cultural naming issue here too. Went the unpopular route of two first names. It was too hard to find a name family in Japan and then the family here could say and not screw up.
In Japanese, the language requires all sounds in a word to have a vowel as part of it, unless it ends in N, and there really isn't an L or R sound (it's something in-between). For example, Frank (FIL's name) becomes Fu-rlan-ku when we go over there, and listening to people here say MIL's name makes me cringe. And of course we hated all the names that were easily said by both sides. So, opted for two first names (one from each of our backgrounds) and we just refer to LO as H.G. which are the initials for the names, we're big H.G. Wells fans so it fits us anyway. He can be Hotaru over there, Graeme or H.G. here and just decide when he's older what he prefers to go by. Middle name is MIL's clan's name (like a last name). Our last name is so so generic.
@kissableviv Milo is such a cute name, pronounced my-low right? I like Milo Oliver and Milo Elliot
Correct
So in Italy it would be pronounced Mee-lo, and it's not common at all. Also, there was a very popular cartoon in the 80s about a volleyball player and the cartoon name was "Mila and Shiro". So I wonder if people in my family would associate it with it...I may have to get over it!
@kissableviv Oh, I thought Milo was pronounced Mee-lo, since it's the masculine version of Mila, pronounced Mee-la. I like it slightly less if it's My-low.
I can't seem to decide on a name for our son & he wanted to leave it up to me this time, yet every name I come up with he shoots down. So he gave me 2 names he is willing to go with honestly im not a fan of them. 1 I am going to default depending on what our boy looks like when he comes out which is Jebidiah John Jr. After his daddy of course. The other is one his mother loves which she is a saint if i ever met one. Leviticus Kane. I prefer a more subtle name so its easier to pronounce when introducing & learning his name growing up.
@little_love_9009 while I wouldn’t use either myself, of the two I’d definitely go with Jebidiah John Jr. Leviticus is a bit full on for me. Bonus of the first name is the possibility of the very simple nicknames of JJ or Junior if that helps you like it a bit more! You could also always call him by his middle name if you prefer...John is nice and simple to learn!
@kissableviv I love Milo and either of those middle name choices!
DH has now seen that isabella is a fairly popular name even though isabelle is less common and is now unsure he wants to use the name UGH I just want us to be settled on a name!
I second what @comealongponds said @lindsayleigh1989. Theres lots of variants to it if you love it! I also think it depends on the nickname you'd give her. Would you call her Bella, Belle, Izzy, etc.?

So we've been getting a lot of pressure to give our daughter the middle name Lynn because it is my mother's middle name as well as my MIL's middle name. The problem is....my husband and I hate the name. I've been trying to come up with names that have Lynn in them (or even names like Adeline that isn't spelled like "Lynn" but has that sound). I haven't found any that I really truly like and my husband isn't a fan of "made-up names" (his words - not mine) like Gracelyn. Do you ladies have any suggestions?
@foxbaby2016 I'm sorry your family is pressuring you to use a specific name. Personally, we don't use family names for our girls' middle names. We did for our boys but for some reason using family names for girls feels like it could be drama if we use a name from one side of the family and not another. At least when it comes to our families. So my advice would be to pick a name you like and they will get over it.

@kissableviv i keep thinking of Harry Potter and naming when i read the name thread. Perhaps Harry.
