@Puddlewonderful wellllll for a while it was going great!! I of course can't be for certain if it was them or time in general.
When he started we noticed he didn't click well with his SLP. She was very shy and quiet herself. But then an intern came in about 3 weeks in and basically took over while the original SLP sat in and observed.
He hit it off with the intern. She's was AMAZING and he was making leaps and bounds.
Well her internship ended and husband first day back with his original SLP be wouldn't talk the entire session. He reverted back to sign language and it broke my heart. Then she went on vacation for two weeks and we go back on Thursday.
Sorry that got long. Overall speech therapy has helped both my kids. My daughter did it from 18m-2y as well and it helped her tremendously and fast. My son is taking a bit longer though. He started at 21m and we've been at it for 5 months but not seeing the same fast results and we saw with DD.

  • @dinonugget @lauranicole91 thanks for your honest responses! We'll see if he progresses or we need to start back up. We just moved him from a small (3 kids) in home daycare to a bigger daycare center and he already seems to be saying more

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?  My irritability plus my daughter's extra whining lately have been rough.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I love how interested she is and excited about the baby.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:

@Dumbgurl04 I will also say a good carrier is well worth it. I'm planning to buy a new half Tula and a ring sling for this baby.

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

I hear you.  My DD is absolutely an angel, and has few behavioral problems. But goddamn, she sucks at sleeping.  It really negatively affect almost every aspect of your day.

  • Right there with you guys, @ladythrice and @ngolimento !  I can't tell anymore if it's sleep regression or teething (she does have one tooth that's almost about to poke through the gums right now) but my DD does. not. sleep. lately. My husband has been absolutely awesome and has been taking most of the middle of the night wake ups since I started feeling really fatigued a few days ago, but last night I had to help him give her tylenol and once she sees me it's game over: she will insist that I get her back to sleep or she'll be up for hours screaming.  So I was up from about 3-445 and I am FEELING IT this morning.
  • @alsbaldwin regarding double strollers, we have the Baby Jogger City Select with an extra seat and it's love. I recommend it whenever someone is looking for a double.

Is that the brand that has the little attachable stand thing for older kids? Kinda like a little skateboard? Haaaa, maybe that makes no sense... I've seen those, and want one that attaches to whatever stroller we end up getting, since I figure my 3 yo would love it.

Thank you so much for the suggestion!

@alsbaldwin I think a few brands do it but the Baby Jogger definitely does! The below image is a random photo from the internet just to show you how the City Select can configure with the rider-board and the seats. We typically have the seats facing each other because the kids like to see each other, however, DS occasionally likes to ride the rider-board instead of sit so we do change it up lol.

ETA: You don't have to buy an extra seat for the Select, it is designed to be a single stroller too with an optional add-on of the second seat. The rider-board is another optional add-on. That's how the companies get you... so.many.add-ons.

  • Mother of the year here. I woke up exhausted and only mildly nauseous but couldn't fathom chasing my 2.5yr old around. So I sent him to daycare haha. After my coffee, I was totally fine. Oops
  • @ladythrice do you actually travel with yours? We have a city select to use with our three kids but honestly I usually end up using an umbrella stroller because it is SUCH a pain to get in and out of the car. It's heavy and you have to halfway disassemble every time you fold it to put it in the car and reassemble when you take it out.

That being said, it is a great and super versatile stroller if you don't intend to take it in and out of the car often or (heaven forbid) try to fly with it.

@lindsye, its like my worst nightmare to think about flying with the damn thing lol.

We do actually travel with it though. We have a minivan so it fits quite nicely in the section behind the third row (two seats up, one seat down). We just stick it in (folded) standing up in the compartment. We'll occasionally leave one set attached but always have to remove at least one. The roller-board stows while attached so no issue for that. It's not the lightest stroller to travel with nor is it the most compact, but damn it pulls its weight when we need to use it.

While I don't even want to think about flying with the stroller, we did take it on a train trip we did and it was a life saver for the in-the-depot times and while out and about at our final destination. My kids are still pretty young so they prefer being worn or sitting in the stroller.

ETA: the stroller permanently resides in the van. If we use it at home for walks on the trail or in the neighborhood, we just take it out of the van and set it up. We break it down and put it back when we're done. While it will fit in a compact car trunk (Toyota Corolla for sure) it does not leave much room for anything else.

  • @ladythrice If you have three who regularly want (or need) to be in the stroller, I can totally see it being worth it. Mine are 5, 3 and 1 and I always have one (usually the 3 year old) who has no interest in sitting in it anyway. Double Maclaren is my favorite double umbrella stroller and the one that lives in my car full time.

  • @Dumbgurl04 I am obsessed with the Moby wrap carrier. It does take some practice to tie it right, but it is so comfy for baby and mom. When DS was tiny he practically lived in that thing.

Mostly just hoping i can keep up with the kids during the first trimester!

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Just happy to be pregnant and not worrying about ovulating and timing and all of that stuff.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
We think this it's going to be our last baby. So I'm trying to really treasure this pregnancy since I have not enjoyed being pregnant in the past. It also makes everything way more emotional.
  • I haven't joined this check-in yet, thought I'd pop in!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now?
This pregnancy was definitely a surprise, and we were going to let a little more time pass between my DD and the next one. So I feel some guilt about her "sharing" us and having to devote a lot of time to another little person. She's still little and demands SO much attention. Also not sure how the heck we are going to pay for 2 kids in day care  :o  Also we too are in a sleep regression and it's killing me, and I'm scared of never sleeping again. I'm not feeling totally prepared for this, tbh.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
The flip side of having kids close together is that (hopefully) they will grow up with a close bond. All my siblings are 2 years apart or less and we are super tight-knit. I hope the same happens with my kids.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions:
Morning sickness this time around has been SO much worse, blah! Can't wait to get out of the first tri.
  • @mountainsmama if it makes you feel any better, my sister and I are 18 months apart and have been best friends our whole lives. I never once resented having to "share" my parents with her or anything like that. The surprise can be stressful on the parents but I'm sure in the long run your DD will love it!

BFing is really important to me and I had a really hard time the first go round. Idk if I will be able to commit to EPing again if I am not successful nursing and I need to be able to be ok with it.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I have a stepbrother but biologically DH and I are only children. I am thrilled to be able to give my daughter a sibling.

  • @saisongbird hey there! I also had a hard time BFing DS and ended up EPing for about 6 months then moved on to formula. It's haaaard to EP. And I get what you're saying about wanting to be mentally prepared for doing that again but also, you don't need to be ok with it right now.

[This is what I tell myself on repeat in my head]
Maybe you'll EP again bc you decide it's worth it. Maybe you'll be luckier and this baby will nurse. Or maybe it will all be too hard this time and you will formula feed. Or maybe some combination of those options and that's ok. Dont let that decision weigh on you yet :)
  • I EP-ed for 9 months with my first born and I hated it. With the fury of a thousand suns. Hated it. I mostly did it out of mom guilt, and before my second, I had so many in-my-head conversations about however things work, it's okay. As long as the baby is fed, that is what matters. My kids were close, so I knew it would be impossible to pump with a newborn and an 18 month old. When I was in the hospital, I had the lactation consultant sit with me and check the latch so many times, and I wasn't hesitant to speak up if it felt uncomfortable or weird- with my first I was too shy to say anything. My advice is don't guilt yourself, and don't hesitate to keep asking for help! <3

  • I will literally BOW to moms that EP. I hate pumping. I like to think that when I'm done having kids I'm going to set my pumps on fire. Realistically I know I'll donate them.... but I hate.them. I could never EP. Women that do are my heroes.
I only made it to 12 months with BFing with my DD because I had to pump at work.  It was next to impossible to so it in the meager time they allowed me, especially since I am an overproducer.  I was almost at the point where I was trying to claim my time pumping as community service work since most of my milk went to the local NICU.
