@DecemberDoll27. So happy your three little fighters all made it!!!!

@adirat most people don't have much measurable the first day, and most people have to go up from there, too.  Try not to fret. ;) They may keep pushing it up as you go, and that's fine too!  We all have everything crossed for you, but it does just take time.... Mine too today, I was like, is that all there Is?  As in hoping we'd be farther along.  But I think the key is remembering to be kind to ourselves and to our bodies and all will be well.  When is your next scan again?  Thursday?

@loverin don't worry, that's a great number of eggs!  One of my doctors said 8-12 is ideal.  I think a lot of cases were they retrieve so many more, they aren't all mature or viable.  Like my previous, we got 18 (!!!)  But still just 10 of those were mature.  Hang in there and don't give up hope!!! (((Hugs)))

@DecemberDoll27 and @emmasemm thanks for checking in on me and apologies for the delay! Retrieval went well, as I'm sure you know the anesthesia hits you hard so I have been falling asleep like crazy today but minimal cramping so all is well.  Apparently last time I did IVF I was hyper stimulated (didn't know until now because I feel a lot more functioning at the same time period) so its good to be able to go to the bathroom by myself etc!  We ended up with 14 eggs! No idea how because I thought I only had 11-13 follies but it must be a blessing.  They didn't tell us how many are mature yet and we will find out fertilization results tomorrow.  I'm sticking with the D3 plans (although googling like crazy the likelihood of multiples) so Friday will be my transfer if all goes well! Thanks again for checking in, seeing your messages after retrieval brought a (sleepy) smile to my face

@cmiller73 I'm SO glad to hear you told you mom and she responded in such a positive way.  It's good to hear that your family history has a success with women in their late 30's and 40s! I called my mom and gave her the heads up that she may need to go to Boston and she said she of course would lol, but I'm so happy your mom will be there for you! How did the trigger go? Feeling okay? Is this your first cycle? Let me know if you have any questions going into retrieval.  I always have anxiety because of the anesthesia component but it always is just fine!!  BTW I do my own shots too including IM and I totally agree, it doesn't hurt, all mind-over matter.  My trick on doing my own IM shots is lying on my bed and twisting so no weight is on my legs.  After a few cycles of progesterone in oil, It's gone okay, so totally agree with you, it's a lot less scary then it seems!

@emmasemm how did your trigger go last night!? I'm sure you're getting ready to fast for tomorrow's retrieval.  I'll be thinking of you.  BTW   I did estrogen priming as well and I swear that and acupuncture gave me a much more stable cycle where my estrogen levels gradually rose vs. spiking

@DecemberDoll27 I am SO HAPPY for you! 3 Blats to freeze, thats amazing.  I would be emotional too.  I cry when i'm sad, cry when I'm happy but thats just wonderful news <3 How are you feeling today? No more stress I hope!

@loverin try not to worry about a lower number of follicles.  I just turned 31 and was panicking for a similar reason.  I had between 11-13 follies at trigger which compared to last time was really low for me.  Prior cycle I was at 25+ follies.  However, last cycle, I only ended up with 13 eggs, where as this one, I found out today, I somehow have 14!  So many ladies on this board have told me quality over quantity so try and remember that.  Also, for me personally, the slow grow has been better than the rapid growth I had last time which led to such a-typical results, so fingers crossed it will do the same for you! You will do great on your trigger tonight.  Don't forget, your eggs will keep growing! Try not to stress and let us know if you have any questions! What is your dose of HCG? Any Lupron?

  • @loverin, Don't worry too much about the follicles number. from what I've seen so far - it doesn't directly translate into the number of good embryos in the end. Maybe having fewer eggs will translate into their better quality - I see that a lot. Also, smaller number of follicles are easier to control to bring them all to maturity around the same time. I had 70 follies growing during IVF - it was hell, and resulted in only 10 mature eggs (then only 2 normal blasts), and bad OHSS. I see people all the time that grow around 10 follies, and end up with better fertilization rate and embryo survival!

    @DecemberDoll27 Congrats!!!!! that's totally awesome!

  • @cxsimo08 I am very glad you are feeling ok, that anesthesia is no joke! And 14 is an amazing number! I respect your decision with d3 transfer. Fingers crossed you will have some to transfer and some to freeze this time! How many are you planning to put in? I really wanted to have twins but my OB and my DH are very against that idea. I am 5'2" and 110 lbs with history of premature labor in the family. I am feeling like my normal self today, trying not to symptom spot and not analyze every single twitch. Consuming pineapple like crazy.

@DecemberDoll27 Thank you! Just woke up from my 4th nap today lol.  We'll see if I sleep tonight.  My doctor is also not a huge "transfer two" fan for a 31 year old, and I am also similar to you in size but I weigh a bit more! She is willing to put 2 in since we are doing D3 (she would not do that if we were doing D5) but she prefaced that we would have to be ready for twins.  I'm 90% sure we're going to transfer two, but unlike you, I am avery nervous about twins! Its a brand new thought for me and DH and I haven't had a chance to do a lot of research here around risks.  My best friends are actually triplets (two Identical one fraternal) so of course my mind is going to those "what ifs" as well!! I'm such an over-thinker!

The great news for you is that since you have a happy little embryo in you and got to freeze 3, you will have lots of extra chances for more babies! Maybe Irish twins ;-)! Plus frozen success rates are great!! Now that you said Pineapple I want some pineapple! lol- cracking up over here.  Should I make DH go out?

FuzzyDust Oh MY GOODNESS, 70 Follies! You poor thing. I hyper stimulated slightly, but it was minor and I felt  awful, I can't imagine what you must have went through.  It sounds like you're doing FTE with one of your two frozen blasts this cycle? When are you scheduled?

  • Yeah, that IVF cycle was something - pretty much at my first check up after starting stims my RE told me that there is no way she'd do fresh transfer with so many follies growing - the ohss was pretty much a guarantee :( I was so swollen and bloated, and walking all funny with lots of feeling of jiggling inside, my husband joked that I carry two baskets of eggs in my belly. All the hope was that that would mean plenty of embryos to chose from later - nope! Now I see women with 10-15 eggs, and this number sounds like a jack-pot to me!

@cxsimo08 - I'm getting one of my embryos transferred tomorrow!!! so excited, and very very scared. The thought of going through another IVF cycle is truly terrifying (even though I've already decided that if we don't end up with two babies with these two embryos, I will do it again).

Hope all of you ladies have amazingly successful IVF this month!

  • Guys, I'm breaking down right now.  Just got a call from a random nurse who knew nothing of my case or past history, and she told my only 4 out of the 14 eggs fertilized (last time 10 out of our 13 did).  She also told me only 8 were given ICSI not all 14, which makes me think they used my last times protocol of 1/2 with ICSI 1/2 natural insemination, instead of the new plan of all with ICSI.  My doctor is in a procedure and has not called me back and I am a complete mess right now.  Why would they only do 8 of the 14 with ICSI? I don't understand whats happening but it's really hard for me to keep any sort of hope when last cycle I had 10 fertilized and none made it to blastocyst and this time I'm starting with 4... :'(

  • @cxsimo08 First of all just take a deep breath and try to calm down

4 out of 14 is certainly not an encouraging number but it does not mean defeat.  You can still get a baby out of it, just do not give up hope. Hopefully your little fighters will keep growing and you will transfer two of them the day after tomorrow.

It is really maddening to hear that a clinic can screw up like that though! I would totally raise hell with them. They should give you a free cycle if this one does not work out in my opinion for not doing ICSI on all of your eggs! but for now just wait for a call from the doctor and keep breezing.

Hope is not lost, I am praying for you and for your four little ones.

  • @cxsimo08 oh I can imagine you're confused and frustrated and worried and a whole host of other things right now.
First of all you have four. Four in with a chance.
Secondly you already have a plan to do day 3 transfer and in case they're not sure if they will make it to day 5 or not, you will basically cover both bases this time.
I really hope the clinic didn't fcuk up the ICSI directive. What we were told if some eggs are only borderline mature then sometimes they can't ICSI them, but can at least try the "old fashioned way" just in case. So maybe it's due to that. Hopefully your Dr can tell you more.
This is a cruel process which is so unpredictable and believe me when I say I am right now feeling all the same worries for my one little eggie so I (and many others here) get you.

  • @cmiller73 Sorry for such a rough retrieval. Yay for 14 eggs though.

I don't know how I missed that you were in the Boston area. I just moved from there last year (not a native). I lived in Foxborough. The IVF I did for my daughter was at NE IVF in Lexington (I think Boston IVF now due to merger). I was so thankful the clinic was on the outskirts and not downtown. I can't describe how much I hate Boston traffic. I was reduced to tears one day when I had to drive downtown.

14 eggs is really good though and fx for your fert report Thursday!
Hope your mom can handle the chickens for you whilst you're recovering too!

@loverin wishing you a smooth and successful ER Thursday!

@rainbows2018 so that means Friday ER for you? Fx that your 8 follies have been sucking up all the meds and are nice and mature!

@artemis618 @adirat @businesswife any more monitoring coming up? All doing ok with stims?

AFM I feel totally sick waiting to here if our one lonely egg fertilized or not. I know we have a plan for next time if it doesn't so I didn't expect to feel this nervous

  • You guys!!!  The doctor said I may be tracking for Sunday retrieval afterall!!! Fx and thank goodness for small mercies....

Left side had 3 at 15, one each at 17 and 19, plus four 13s and a 10.  Right had one 15, two 17s, one 19, a 13 and four 10s.  So 9 over 13 right now?  I think those tend to have more of a chance to be mature, so hopefully should go well!

@loverin I am keeping everything crossed for you!

@businesswife That's great to hear! Fx it goes super smoothly.

AFM -- monitoring this morning, I have only three measurable follicles :( Even the RE said he was surprised that it was so few. He's upping my Follistim to 300 in the hopes that some of my small ones catch up.

  • Morning ladies, feeling a bit better, but eh... then I got the fert report. Could have been better, but Im sticking with a PMA and thinking good thoughts.
So it looks like of the 14 retrieved, only 10 were able to have ICSI attempted on them (3 were very immature and one was abnormal). of the 10 they did ICSI on, only 4 fertilized. The nurse with the report had no details on any why's or how's etc...

Luckily my RE is in the office today so they are going to meet with him in about an hour and go over fresh transfer options.

I have Estrace leftover from my last FET and I may be converting from a FET/Freeze all to a Freshie asap.  WHOA.

I have no idea how to mentally get my head around that rapid change... has anyone else gone in planning FET and changed over?

I admit I get a little overwhelmed by all of the activity on here sometimes - so sorry I’m so awful at keeping up.

@cxsimo08 I’m sorry if there was some confusion with your clinic - Fx for your four!  We only had five fertilize from our 14 (not all mature) with our last cycle - we still got three blasts to test.

@cmiller73 Boo for traffic and a not smooth retrieval :(. That sounds really painful.  Hope you’re feeling better soon.  For my second retrieval, because my first cycle went so poorly, we prepped for day 3 transfer just in case then made a game time (day 3) decision. So I still have leftover meds too - about which I will inquire about using if we only get a few this cycle.  Our plan is always to PGS (so I hope to get to a FET one of these days), but we consider day 3 transfer if we only get a few (although think twice about it as another *TW* loss would cost us precious time - also just read on fertilityiq that fresh transfers tend to be less successful for East Asian women (which I am)).  So not so much switching as lots of conditional back and forth.  As long as your Dr. is comfortable with your E2 and OHSS risk ‘cause that could be a thing too if you get *TW* pregnant).

@loverin Hope your retrieval went well this AM!

    @rainbows2018 GL w/your retrieval tomorrow!

@emmasemm I love your gratitude.  You’re so sweet for checking in, and I’m SO happy you have a little embryo to put back in soon!

@BusinessWife Yay for getting back on track - hopefully things keep going that way. :) How many days have you been stimming now?

@adirat I’m sorry, I don’t remember what your baseline AFC was (not that I’m sure how that translates anyway).  Hopefully the higher dose will help, but you still have a chance with three.  Would you consider converting to IUI with three?  (at my age I think I could have quite a few and still consider it). Is this your first cycle (sorry, I’m usually on mobile so can’t see people’s signatures)?  Even on my fourth cycle now it still feels like a lot of trial and error.

Not too much going on with me just yet - third night of stims is tonight, then I have my first monitoring appointment with my Dr. late tomorrow.  So I guess we’ll see how things are looking in there (like if I have dominant follicle(s) and may need to consider converting to IUI - hopefully not, just trying to prepare to go with the flow).

Did anyone else do a course of doxy?  I find it so annoying to time taking it with buffers for dairy consumption and the magnesium I take before bed and not lying down for 30 min.  My previous RE never had us take it as part of an IVF cycle. At least it’s only for a week this time!

  • @loverin Congrats on your 9 and fx for a great fert report tomorrow. I don't know what it is with several of us here and follies that are hard to get eggs out of this month...

@businesswife wow those are great numbers of follies! And perfect if you can have ER on Sunday. That's really fast this time - and maybe you're one of those people who gets a better response on your second cycle in a back to back.

@decemberdoll27 We are one hour ahead of London, and I'm scheduled for 1pm. I'm am keeping everything crossed our little emby makes it through the night.
Is your test date next week?

@adirat I feel you with the disappointing low numbers. Hopefully the higher dose will make a difference - or if not maybe those 3 have been soaking up all the good drugs and they will be super strong!

@cmiller73 I can imagine after yesterday and then the nurse having news but not all info today is a real head-f**k. Did they call you back after talking to the doctor?
I'm sure it's best to look at all the options and weigh them up. Do you have a special reason why you wanted to freeze?

@artemis618 good luck for monitoring tomorrow, you're in nice and early so they should have a chance to adapt to what they think will work best
