Re: September IVF

  • @cxsimo08 thanks for the kind words! I am sure my job will be fine and my family has priority right now.

AFM, I am starting to get anxious for the transfer. Especially since I don't have any info on the embabies! This is cruel! I am hoping for one to transfer and one to freeze :-) but out of only 7 eggs that is probably wishful thinking

  • @cxsimo08 good luck with the TS tonight!
I don't take any Menopur so I haven't had to do any of the mixing
Its amazing how dehydrated the Ganirelix makes you, I normally drink 3 liters a day and at the moment I'm approaching 5 liters a day since starting the Ganirelix!

@decemberdoll27 thanks! And good luck for your transfer tomorrow! I'm nervous with you to hear how many you have and how it all goes!

@cxsimo008 @businesswife @adirat the whole "what to say to work" question is a tough one. So far I've taken all 7am appointments so it didn't interfere, but so far I haven't said anything about a day off for ER as I couldn't be sure how the stims would work - so if we go ahead I will go into work in the morning and say I need a medical procedure and day off on Wednesday. If anyone does find out the idea of saying you're planning on FET is a great one thanks @adirat
My 2.5 years of passing on alcohol I've put down to the other meds they know I'm taking for my RA.

I have only worked with this team for a year and they are all guys, half have a bunch of kids already and the other half have said they are no way having any. So I would not expect much understanding. Also here in Germany, whilst we are very lucky with maternity leave, at the same time this means nearly everyone assumes all women will take several years off after kids and then only come back part time, so it's almost impossible to get promoted if they think you're about to be KU. It's especially so in my company which is very traditional. The team I'm in also all think everyone gets KU straight away (based on several dinner conversations). So if I need to spend another 2-3 years trying, basically telling anyone would put my career completely on hold for that time.

  • @emmasemm I'm not sure I realised you were in Germany!  It's the language I studied most in school I just don't often get to practice!  That's a lot of the kind of thing I'm concerned with.  Not that they are necessarily traditional about things - one coworker I told is very excited and supportive but doesn't understand the first thing about ivf so I've been having to explain a lot to her and talk more about it than I planned on lol - but with my managers, I would like very much to keep moving up as quickly as possible to collect a better wage during mat leave, and if they think I'm going to just turn around and take leave / come back parttime (which I would actually LOVE to do), I'm afraid they might hesitate to move me up.  Idk.  I will have to tell them eventually when I'm ku.  For me it's more the personal nature of infertility I wish to keep some anonymity about.  Plus, avoid any judgements down the road if we happen to get ku again rather quickly, like they will know we planned it! Lol

  • @businesswife - yep I'm a Brit in Germany, having got here via China, the US and a lot of flying around the world.
How long did you study German for? I did a couple of years at school and it at least gave a good base when I arrived here 20 years later!

And I know what you mean about the side of telling people which will just trigger lots of questions and "how's it going" conversations. Someone on one of the posts suggested if the guys started asking questions to just ask if we can talk about how well their penis functions first... but I think I might end in HR if I did that lol.
In general neither DH or I are the kind of people who share all the details of our life very widely. We haven't told our families as they would be asking every day, which we feel would just add to our stress at the moment.
If we need money at some point to keep funding treatments then I guess we might need tell my parents and ask them for help. Also both my parents have health issues at the moment so we don't want to add to their worries.
    Have you told family?

@emmasemm I studied it all four years of high school, and then took German Lit in University as well!  Just the one more year, plus all my singing. ;)  lol about asking them how their penis/testicles were doing!  :D. I am lucky at least it's mostly women I work with, but still. Just not something we need to share with the world right now.  Our mothers don't even know, but I'm supposed to tell my boss???  GTFO Right?  The only one in the family who knows is DHs sister, and even that he sort of teases me for telling her bc I think he wishes no one knew. Then a couple very close friends, but that's it.  I think we would much rather be able to wait to tell people good news finally, if we can help it, than have them worrying about every step of the way, or making our whole pregnancy and the baby about our infertility.  Because that's not really fair either, to us as parents, or to the kid. But who knows, maybe we aren't giving people enough credit? Lol but I'd still rather wait and see how it goes first...

I know because of the MFI, DH really feels like how we conceived our child is nobody's business, but maybe in time he won't feel so ashamed, I hope.

  • @emmasemm @BusinessWife I work in retail and told my boss right up front (letting him know it was confidential obviously) and was surprised when he was very understanding and shared that there was a peer of mine who had struggled with fertility with his wife for years (and clearly was an over sharer on details since my boss was very knowledgeable about the process!) The previous two cycles and FET I was able to use PTO and plan accordingly and have the support of my hubby.  This time, not so much. Hubby has a 'cannot miss' work trip filled with high level presentations Monday thru Thursday this week. I know he feels horrible, but I feel worse because I really have no idea how I am going to get this done without him :( . We are very private people and being so, do not have a friend group that can take me into my ER! my parents (closest to us) do not know and are a last resort.  I have two coworkers who have offered to help, but depending on what day it is, they might not be able to drive me.  This is a mess. :(

AFM, I had my second monitoring and we have 11 measurable with a bunch just under 10mm. The largest one is already 18x15mm (33mm diameter and only 2mm away from my RE's threshold) with 3 more only 3mm away.  They generally trigger when there are 2 follies at threshold. So today, today I am freaking out.

If I trigger tomorrow I will have someone who can drive me the 2 hours to the hospital and be there to drive me home. If I trigger Tuesday, I have no idea what I can do. If I trigger Wednesday (which is probably not happening since they would need to potentially sacrifice the front 3-4 follies in the hopes the others make up for their loss) then hubby will be back to drive me to ER Friday and give a fresh sample.

Talk about putting ALL of your hopes in technology and medical expertise. We are potentially hoping that we have better results, with less follicles, with frozen sperm, with me *hopefully* having a way to get to the ER. Oh, and we are 100% OOP. Friggin' awesome.

    Yay for IF. :/

@cmiller73. Oof, that's a pickle.  It's rarely smooth, is it?  My best advice is to try and relax about the details, bc it's going to be when it's going to be. :/  if it makes you feel any better, all our samples are frozen!  Lol. People do it every day.  And I still would think frozen "fresh" samples would hold up better than frozen surgically retrieved ones.  So try not to worry about that if it comes to it.  If you'd rather not involve anyone, can you just call a cab or über? May be less personal, but I'm sure people have cabs take them home all the time.  In fact I know I saw one waiting for a patient when my husband had his procedure.  The details will have a way of working themselves out.   You just have to make good care of yourself, eat and rest well, and show up! ;)

  • @BusinessWife I get to go through the 'what ifs' at my monitoring tomorrow morning. I have been told that they will not release me to a cab/uber since ill have been put under so need a 'supervisor' hahah sheesh! Im sure it will all work out. Would love it if where I had the ER was closer. I get a 2+ hour drive into downtown Boston. AWESOME. :)

Thanks for the advice on your* samples hehe. I feel like we all sort of forced this cycle and should have waited a month, but that 44th bday is just around the corner so we went for it. Looks like I will be meditating a lot over the next few days....

@cmiller73  A couple of years ago, when I needed to have a surgery but I didn't have anybody in the area that could take me I found someone on care.com to drive me and stay with me for most of the day just in case I have any adverse effects to the anesthesia. That worked really Well for me
That is a great idea!  Maybe worth a shot!

  • @emmasemm Like you said, one step at a time! Are you doing a 3 day transfer?

@cmiller73 have they told you when you're to trigger? Hate the added stress of getting to and from your appointment on top of IVF, it never seems to be simple does it? It sounds like the ladies gave some good suggestions though, I hope you won't need them but at least you have options if you do!

@DecemberDoll27 when are due to transfer? Sorry if I missed it in one of the comments!

@adirat Menopur is a beast, I always do that one first because I dread it the most! Honestly at this point I prefer doing my own shots (we'll see how I feel once I get to the trigger and progesterone  ). The first couple of times were rough mentally but once I'd done it twice I felt more comfortable with it! I agree with @Decemberdoll27 that for me, the place it hurt the least (or not at all) was an inch or two under my belly button and over just a tad. The ones that have hurt the most were further out on my stomach.

@sunnyrain2 I'm glad you fought for what you wanted and got him to do ICSI on all of them! My RE told me that once you're spending this much money to do  IVF you might as well if you think that could possibly be an issue (for us MFI, it obviously is).

And fx your other two join the one already in the freezer tomorrow!

And oh I did laugh at your secret stash... you know, you could always get one from a shop between now and then ;-)

I don't have any in the house as I can't trust myself on any day in my cycle... though I am thinking I should get some to test if the trigger has taken in the morning and then to test it out, but only for trigger testing you understand ;-)

  • @emmasemm Just read your post about POAS to check for LH, your RE doesn't bring you in the next morning for LH and progesterone labs? I have a 7:30 blood draw to check that the trigger worked... just wondering as it seems things are very different depending on what country you are going through IVF!
    tinjp78BusinessWifeadirat
  • @cmiller73 Go trigger buddy!!!
Nope, he doesn't bring me in for more blood tests today. They will take labs during ER tomorrow, but he said he has had enough of my blood lol. My lining looks great on US (he called it "text book"!!!) and said with only 2 follies he is not concerned about OHSS and without Ganirelix for 2 days and really being close to O on Friday if the trigger doesn't work then he thinks my body will anyhow.
He did say he can't stop me from POAS to check it myself though lol.

Really pleased it's worked out with your own mom :-)

I could see signs of stress creeping in since the first baselining, but DH had seemed super relaxed - until yesterday I realized he was not relaxed at all and was checking in with me every hour. Bless him. He's in even less control of this whole process than me, and he is just as much a control freak as me.

  • I'm sorry to hear it @loverin :( Did you ever have your AMH or AFC done? I'm in the same place as you (bottom 10% AMH for my age, also 28) and it stinks.

I had an u/s this morning and no noticeable response yet. I may have to increase my meds to get a response. I was pretty disappointed.

    tinjp78BusinessWife
  • @adirat I know they did a blood test this time last year to look at my hormone levels before we were referred to the RE, would they have looked at my AMH then? They said all my hormone levels looked good.  I don't believe they did anything to determine AFC but honestly, they might have and I wasn't aware. My doctor is great at what he does and I trust him very much, but it is frustrating how little he communicates. It isn't done intentionally but it's very likely that one of the tests they did before IVF they looked at this and I wasn't aware that's what they were doing. They did an HSG, a SHG and a day 9 mock transfer to make sure all looked well but it doesn't sound like the right tests to determine either of those so maybe not.

I don't think they anticipated this being an issue since my age and all my tests have come back normal. I'm wondering if it has to do with such a delay in getting my ovaries stimulated? Last night was night 12 of stims and the first 5 days we were in a hurricane evacuation so I couldn't be seen. I went from taking 125 iu of follistim to taking 375 once he had seen me and realized I wasn't responding to a lower dose.

What day of stims are you on and what dose of meds? Sorry for the disappointing response, it's so frustrating to be doing all this stuff and to see your body just chillin, taking it sweet time or refusing to respond.

  • *lurking*

Aw @loverin doing IVF is already too tough and you don't deserve that treatement you got from your nurse today who couldn't do her job well. Her attitude is the problem and not your veins. Please feel better and relax. I'm cheering for you and your embabies!
    adiratBusinessWifecmiller73
  • @loverin please don't stress out too much, be kind to your self, screw the nasty nurse! 10-12 follies is a good number and it does not mean that anything is wrong with you at all. Everybody is just different. I only got 7 and was crushed by that number, but now we have one in and one frozen! My AMH is actually over normal at 3.65( PCOS)  and I still did not respond super well to the meds. Just try to relax and go through the process one day at a time! You are almost there. Ice cream and chocolate helps too. I know IF sucks but we all will beat it!

@adirat almost everybody gets their dosage increased after the first monitoring, I guess doctors just tend to start with a smaller dose for some reason. Hang in there. How long does your doctor plan to stim you?

@emmasemm ER tomorrow, that is awesome!!!!

@cmiller73 You are a rock star for doing IM shot yourself! I don't think I would ever be able to! And good luck with your ER tomorrow.

@cxsimo08 How did the ER go?

AFM, I don't feel any different being PUPO. Woke up in the middle of the night to a lower belly cramp and panicking now. I hope my contracting uterus did not squish the embryo.... I think crazy lady in me is making a comeback. I am over analyzing everything. Trying to stay positive though and talk to the embryo.

  • @tinjp78 Aw thank you so much! You're right, her attitude had to do with her, it just boiled my blood! I'm cheering you on as well!

@DecemberDoll27 You're right, one day (and lots of ice cream) at a time! I'm not stressed so much as just concerned but I agree, it doesn't mean anything for the quality and we could still be in a good place! As for the nasty nurse, this is all I got for ya.

I'm sure your little emby is just fine and having a grand ol' time on it's new water bed  At this point, couldn't it also be implantation? Don't stress, you got this! I know the waiting is hard (and for me has been the hardest part so I can imagine the 2ww is not going to be fun) but keep busy and my fingers and toes and extremities are crossed for you!

  • @loverin So frustrating :( But I agree with @DecemberDoll27, be kind to yourself. Your response wasn't what you expected but it definitely could be the delay or just random variation, and you're still growing eggs! I started out on 150 IU Follistim but just got the call to increase to 225 IU Follistim starting tonight. I hope that helps kick things into gear!

@Decemberdoll27 I have no idea how long stims will be...he estimated 10-14 days but I have a genetic condition known to cause poor response to stims so it's hard to predict. I hope things pick up now. Too funny about your cramp story -- we have all been there! Remind me when your beta is scheduled?
