I work at a child care center and they already have waitlist going into March for our infant program. Thank god I told my boss about me being pregnant and I am now all set for childcare. I work at a higher end child care center in the suburbs of Boston so we are always booking up our infant rooms months in advance.
As for ratios I know in Massachusetts it is state mandated and we can have for infants 2 teachers to 7 infants. And as the child gets older and moves up the ratio goes up, ending in our pre-k program with 2 teachers to 20 children. I know we have had some parents who are 6 weeks pregnant recently come in and register their child even if they are on a wait list. I hope this helps!
Here's my question...I know that we can't "show" this early (I'm only 7+1), but omg my stomach is awful. So my youngest is 9 months. She was a big baby, and I never fully got back in shape after her. I definitely had a little pouch left over (plus about 7-10 lbs depending on the time of day I weighed). Lately, the pouch is SO BAD, especially by the end of the day. Do you think it's bloat? I'm feeling so crappy about my body. I'm definitely not gonna be a cute pregnant person, I'm gonna be a whale
I have the same leftover post partum pouch combined with bloating. It's super not cute.

Similar situation here re: bloat. I've been wearing a lot of looser/flowy shirts to disguise. Apparently my brother asked my dad today if I'm pregnant because he thought I had a "bump"

My DD put her hand on my belly today when we were standing in the kitchen and her eyes got huge. She said, "OH! Mom! It's getting bigger!" I bloat with the best of them, and at 10w with each of my pregnancies, I've totally given in to stretchy waistbands and not holding my core together if it's uncomfortable to do so. I wake up and look totally normal, but now by breakfast (post workout), my belly distends with a strong blump and I commit to clothes that fit it the rest of the day
How many donuts is acceptable to eat in one sitting? Asking for a friend.
I had four yesterday. So at least four.
I have a question about some testing we're getting done when I'm 12 weeks. It's non-invasive prenatal testing just to see if the baby will have any abnormalities such as Down syndrome or spinabifida (butchered the spelling, I'm so sorry). Can anyone tell me if this testing will also tell us the gender? Obviously I care a lot more about the other info, but I forgot to ask my doctor if it did, and I want to be prepared if they ask if we want to find out the gender right away.
@MrsBalletStar05 Depends. How many donuts were in the box? Were they really good donuts? The number of acceptable donuts goes up exponentially depending on these factors.
@ShawnnaO I'm a FTM but gathering from prior conversations on here the NIPT will tell you the sex but the other blood tests that are combined with the NT scan don't tell you the sex (both the NIPT and blood test combined with NT scan test for Down Syndrome, etc).
@ShawnnaO Do you know the name of the test? A lot of "brand name" NIPTs out there will tell you baby's sex, but some of the more generic blood panels won't.

I don't think the tests you are talking about are the same as the NIPT blood tests that tell you the sex. I believe I had these done with my daughter. If I remember right, these tests tell you if your baby is at risk and give you a percentage of risk.
@DDRRT1982 my doctor said this test will for sure tell us if baby has Down Syndrome with a 99% accuracy rate. I can't remember the exact name, I need to find the paper that had the name on it.
EDIT: okay the info packet I have doesn't have the exact name either. But she told me they would do an ultrasound and then draw my blood. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Ugh I wish I could remember. I just hate not knowing exactly what's going on and what I'm going to be finding out.
@ShawnnaO If it's combined with an ultrasound it's probably the other blood test they do with the NT scan (the NT is a special type of ultrasound), and not an NIPT, which I think means what you're getting will not tell you the sex.
JamieK1882 I feel crappy about my body too. I'm already a bit overweight. I've been exercising and getting healthier but now I have no energy and already feel like wearing pants is hell. I guess it's bloat? anyone with more experience have any input/ideas for dealing?

I found it very helpful to get underwear that were a size or two bigger than what I usually wear, and wear loose dresses or skirts.
Ladies who pack a lunch - I just found out I have an all day thing tomorrow from 10-10.
What would you pack? No fridge but there is a microwave...I'm lost and a little panicky about no nap and not having easy access to whatever I can grab.
@barrelocarol That sounds awful - I'm sorry you have to do that tomorrow. I would pack granola bars, BelVita cookies, a yogurt to eat early (Siggi's has tons of protein), a banana, maybe another fruit if you can stomach fruit (I can't right now), PBJ, Cheez-Its, dry cereal, regular cookies. And these are just the suggestions from 1st-trimester-me who doesn't like food. Good luck!

Stuck in the quote box. I'd pack some almonds, coconut water, and maybe a Cliff bar or two. Edited to add: that's in addition to the stuff already suggested.
Anyone else anemic? My blood work from yesterday shows I'm slightly anemic. I was with my last pregnancy as well. So now I need to take an iron supplement. Did your doctor write you a script or did you just buy your own supplement? The note I got from my nurse just says to pick up my own but I'm not sure how much more I need. There is already iron in my prenatal supplement. Should I call and ask or just pick one?

Aaaaaahhh I'm in MA. Def need to notify DD's daycare that I have another one on the way like, yesterday.

I'd call and ask. Also, be sure you drink a lot of water and get enough fiber, because iron can cause constipation.

I was just under the desired range last time so I got the low dose "gentle" iron (bought my own OTC). I'd definitely ask what they recommend for additional dosage so you don't take too much. And keep in mind you may need to adjust your dose the second half of the pregnancy when your blood volume increases.

Honestly, I would call in sick, but you're probably a better person than me. So to answer your question, I would pack a pbj sandwich, a cheese and hummus and veg sandwich, a protein bar, crackers or pretzels, fruit, and baby carrots. I normally eat about 5 times between 10 and 10! So def 2 sandwiches.
@barrelocarol, I like wet food so in addition to what's been mentioned: applesauce cups, water/juice/other bottles, love yogurt cups earlier in the day. Pbnj sounds good. Cheese and crackers and cut fruit. Can you open an avocado? I would need a lot of options cause I know I become very picky when it's actually time to eat.

That's what I'm taking too but my insurance is being wonky and my Rx might not be ready for the weekend. So I need to have a back up. Lol
@barrelocarol I've had lots of all day events, and having access to a microwave it a big bonus! As long as you have a good mini-cooler/lunch bag, you should be good to go with ice packs and food you'd usually keep in a fridge. Greek yogurt with granola, crackers with cheese, nuts and cranberries, cottage cheese, and maybe a meal you can reheat? I would prep some rice, chicken, and veggies with sauce and reheat that, or you could just pack a sandwich that you could warm up. I guess it's really dependent on what you can stomach right now! A couple protein bars are a good idea, too, just in case something doesn't sound good when you get there.
Question: During my *TW ectopic pregnancy last fall *TW end, when I was telling my boss what was going on, she confided in me and told me she has been trying to get pregnant for 3 years. Fast forward to today...my colleague just announced her pregnancy, and hopefully in a month, I will be announcing my pregnancy. For those of you who have struggled with infertility, what are some key things I can say when emailing my boss (which I think is the best way of communication in this case), that show empathy and compassion for he situation while announcing my pregnancy. She is a professional person, so no matter what she will act fine, but I respect that it's probably very difficult to hear pregnancy announcements when she has been struggling. Thank you for any advice!!
fatstagnationJamieK1882 , @bettyvonsomethingstein and all others who are currently being plagued by (what I assume to be) SEVERE bloating and pure grossness. Lol. Let me not openly body shame myself in public, but D*MN! Lol. My stomach is hard yet soft. Lol. It does not look like a cute bump (because I guess it's not, lol ). It looks like I have a HUUUUUUGE belly. And the more I think about how I need to eat a healthy diet that includes tons of fiber, the more I crave ice cream, cupcakes, and all things that will contribute to my increasing waist line.
Yea... The struggle is most definitely real.
ANNNNNND when I talk to my best friend about it (she does not have children, yet) she treats me like I am crazy! UGGGGGHHHH!!!

@ShawnnaO Sounds like what I'm getting done at 12 weeks called a sequential screening. They do an ultrasound and take some measurements of baby (neck thickness, etc) and then do bloodwork. It will not tell you gender, it's just for down syndrome, trisomy 18 and spina bifida.
Asking this here too (already put it in symptoms thread) because I'm not too sure where to put it.
For those taking Diclectin for nausea, what is your prescription? My tablets are 10mg. My OB said to take 2 at night, 1 in am and 1 in early afternoon. With the option of increasing the 2 daytime doses to 2 pills each if needed.
I've been doing the minimum but wondering if I should increase. I'm still nauseous all day, evenings are the worst, and throwing up at least once a day.
Quick question for those who are seeing a new OB- I was told I would not be seen until after 10 weeks for my first appointment. Which is fine. Except I am somewhat new to my town so I have no preexisting relationship with a doctor here. My nausea is making it near impossible to function- will my OB who I haven't met yet even consider meds before I see her?
@mcndkmtd normally I don't suggest people w/ non-emergencies seek care in the emergency department, but it is an option. We prescribe diclegis for MS routinely (just go prepared lest you meet someone old school who prescribes zofran). You could also try an urgent care, but I would try calling ahead to figure out if they'll just send you to ED anyway cos they're scared of pregnancy.
