@DDRRT1982 Oooooohh, yeah Orthodox is a whole other thing. Because I'm a woman by Jewish rules the kids are Jewish whether we have them practice or not (and even though I'm technically a Hebrew school drop out lol).

I'm not surprised you had to go outside an Orthodox synagogue to get a Rabbi. They're just really strict like that. For our wedding we had an interfaith rabbi who herself had converted and was not born Jewish (also our rabbi was a woman which really freaked out some of my more old school relatives...) I'm interested to hear whether the Hebrew school poses a problem for you. It may depend on the school. If you have trouble with an Orthodox one and YH is cool with trying another, a Reformed one would probably work.
@DDRRT1982 It's my understanding that Reform accepts patrilineal descent and I know the movement is generally quite accepting of interfaith families so that might be a really good option for a Hebrew school. Plus your kid(s) would make friends that are around the same level of observance which is important.

ETA: I converted twice so I'm pretty familiar with all the different branches and systems of Judaism.

  • @pbtoast, I've never experienced it. But a friend of mine always has it as her first pregnancy symptom. With all 3 of her pregnancies. It's what caused her to test. With one of them it got so bad she had to go on disability from work.
Your poor friend! But that's interesting to me since I just expected it later; my only frame of reference is my experience with developing it later. Glad to know I'm not alone in it starting early.
  • I'm Coptic Egyptian and my husband is what we call Illinoisan. Our son is amazing looking. He has the cutest little good looking features with just a tint of coloring to really put him over the top.

Side note: Im totally majorly hormonally loving him right now bc he is asleep and peaceful...Like the kind of "I get to have another one of you!!!!" kind of moment so pardon my gush.

Thanks!  I would love to find some other interfaith families.  We do need to start looking into this bc my daughter is almost school age and I think they start Hewbrew school a couple years after.  The only reformed Temples I know of are a little further away from us.  Thanks for the info.

Just curious - anyone else having a mixed race jelly bean? I have not seen any threads mention it.

I'm white (irish, german, dutch, french-canadian mutt) and DH is asian (vietnamese and chinese). I am so crazy curious what our little one will look like! Also gets me thinking about how we will incorporate things from both cultures into his/her life. :)
Me :-) I'm white, hubby is black/white so the kiddos are like 25%.

My oldest has all brown/dark features and looks like DH. My youngest, to my astonishment, has blonde hair, blue eyes and lighter skin (but still darker than me). He looks exactly like all the cousins on my side of the family.

I told DH that this baby is gonna be the tie breaker baby!

so I'm just going to ask... has anyone out there had sex in the last month or so? I'm pretty sure the last time we did the deed was when I actually got pregnant. I am just NOT feeling it. I can't stand to be touched right now because I am uncomfortable all the time. My poor H is completely attention starved...I hope this doesn't last the WHOLE TIME
So we hadn't done anything since the time I assume I conceived :-/ because family was over, ect and two weeks later I was always tired (pg symptom apparently, but this was before I had any idea!) He did get some the other night and he just happened to approach at the right time because usually I feel tired and gross. Anyway, that one time was it.

  • Question!

just curious, but would you travel 8 hours away at 31 weeks pregnant?

my husband and I switch holidays every year with our families. My parents are local and his mom is 8 hours away. This year we are supposed to stay local for Thanksgiving (I'll be 26 weeks) and travel to see his mom for Christmas (I'll be 31 weeks).

Just curious to hear if you all would make that trip or not at that stage of pregnancy. Trying to plan ahead!

  • @hollyk224 I would, unless you're having complications and your Dr wouldn't want you to travel that far away. Just plan to stop a few more times than normal when driving. I think I was more around week 36ish where I started feeling huge and wouldn't have wanted to be that far from my Dr.

  • @hollyk224 I definitely would unless my doctor had some reason I couldn't.
  • @vflux33 oh okay, makes sense. Her pedi didn't go into a lot of detail she just kinda said to me what I had stated in my original comment.

  • @hollyk224 I would.... as long as it was within Canada. I wouldn't go anywhere where my medical coverage might be void. otherwise... bring pillow and snacks..... plan for some extra pee stops and enjoy your trip
  • @hollyk224 I went on a 10 hour drive around that time with my first. Just make sure you get out and stretch your legs to help prevent blood clots. I wore knee high compression hose because I'm paranoid.
  • @sarabeth5678 my husband was actually in a similar situation. His primary doctor recently left so we called around frantically trying to find someone who would get him in  to do the blood work.

I know what you mean, it's stressful to think about what could happen. Like you I'm just trying to focus on having a happy healthy baby.  I think part of it was I never suspected I would be carrier so I was surprised. Let me know how everything goes with you as well!
  • I have a girl's weekend at my cottage this weekend, and I wi be telling them I am KU. But, this weekend is usually includes alcohol. I clearly can't drink the alcohol, but am 100% ok with everyone else drinking as much as they want. We're in a safe space, no driving, so it's all good. I just want some suggestions on what I can drink that's fun as well. Something maybe premade, or easy to make. I will have a blender..
Just no strawberries or I will die.

    @bb3vj3n

Oh no girl,  you're not the only one! I feel so bad, too. I just reassure my DH that I love him and that it's nothing he's done.. well, actually yes it is. They got us pregnant, lol. But try looking at What To Expect When You're Expecting. There's a whole section in there just for the Father's about our changing bodies, moods, etc.. and I had my DH read it and he said he understood and will be patient. Mine is slowly coming back now that the nausea is not at its worst anymore. It'll get there :)

  • @bb3vj3n

also, sorry if this is TMI but maybe try taking a shower together and see what goes from there, if you can! ;)

  • @pbtoast I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right hand for which I was given a steroid shot for in April. It had not been bothering me until what seems like the second the implantation happened then it flared up BAD and has been bothersome every since. I am now wondering if I actually have carpal tunnel.

  • Anyone else losing hair? I feel like I'm pulling way more hair out of my shower drain the last few weeks than usual. I thought my hair was suppose to get all thick, long and beautiful while pregnant

@npkat  Yes! Mine was slightly thicker but I have super thin hair anyways. I got it trimmed a few weeks ago and it isn't as bad but it's still a lot enough to say, "How am I not bald?!"
  • @hollyk224 as others have said, I would as well! I traveled from the east coast to midwest for my brothers wedding when I was 30 weeks with my first. The only thing I'd recommend is allowing for lots of time to keep your blood moving (frequent car stops or space in your car to move your feet) my feet swelled sooo badly while travelling. It was in late Spring though so maybe won't be as bad in the winter!

@kalawa some of these look pretty good. I've been craving fruity cocktails and some of these look like they could curb the craving.

I had the best virgin mojito of my life last night at a bar where they were having free salsa lessons. It was surprisingly delicious!!

    Yes, tons.
  • Hey ladies, quick, probably dumb question considering this isn't my first go-round with being pregnant. So I always used to track my period, so I'm 100% sure on the date of my last period. Going off that, I should have been 10+2 at my ultrasound today, but baby was measuring at 9+1. Heartbeat was great so I'm not really concerned, just confused.

I guess my question is does it make sense for me to be 100% sure on when my last period was but to not actually be as far along as I thought?

  • @kalawa
I like coconut La Croix + pomegranate juice (get it at Costco, it's way cheaper than the regular store).

If you can find Spindrift in your town, that stuff is delicious. Target in one town here has it but not the one the next over. It's like sparkling water with a bit of fruit purée in it. It's low sugar and is around 10-15 calories/can (not that they specifically matter, just that there's that little sugar).

I'm also a big fan of Dry Soda. They have regular flavors like vanilla and orange and ginger and some fancy ones like juniper berry and cucumber. I think the cherry flavor is garbage though. They're also a lower sugar, more natural option.(About 50 cal/can).

And there's always pink lemonade. I bought some Simply Lemonade. That stuff is so dang good. You might even be able to freeze then blend it so it's slushy.

  • Thanks ladies! I am going to pick up stuff for virgin caesers (my fave), some pink lemonade to blend with ice and sparkling water, and some of the fruity drinks. If there was only virgin craft beer...I'd be set. I don't do "near beer", as it just tastes like skunky water to me.
  • Thanks ladies!

we traveled that far when I was pregnant with DD at 30 weeks, and that was the last time we traveled before she arrived. Thanks for all of the helpful info!

@pbtoast this was also among my first symptoms- pretty much just in one hand, the last three fingers. It's pretty much constant tingling. The doctor said it's not common in the first tri, but not a problem either, and could be related to a nerve in the elbow.
  • Thank you @kalawa ! That makes sense. I'd only JUST started getting my period again (2 or 3 cycles) when I got pregnant so it makes sense that maybe things were still starting to regulate so my estimated dates were off. Yeah I'm definitely not worried. I love my doctor and trust that if she's calm, I'm calm.

@kalawa my friend made me a few mocktails the other night that we're great! I think one was seltzer + lime juice + cucumber + basil + bitters and the other was ginger beer + lime juice + bitters (both gently shaken with ice). The bitters have a little alcohol technically but you just use a drop or two.

For me it's the fancy, heavy glass and the definitely not sweet! flavor that makes me feel like I'm "having a drink."
  • @kiki75 o0o0oo la croix and pomegrantate sounds amaze-balls right now!! I'm going to have to go find some ASAP

Add me down for zero sexy time. PGAL brain + progesterone suppositories + feeling like absolute crap = poor DH. We have twice since finding out and both times I am pretty much freaking out and just all get it over with quick! ha

Love all the other mixed race couples!! I have a question for you all - something that I was told today by my sister (pre-med) who indicated that she learned in genetics that mixed race fetuses test falsely positive at a higher percentage that single race babies, specifically the NT scan. I have tried to research the topic, but am not getting many answers one way or the other. Has anyone heard of this / have any more info.? The thought is quite worrisome.

If you like German beer, Erdinger Alcoholfrei is not bad. It hits the spot anyway when you really feel like a beer. Last time I was KU we got a few cases of it.

  • @GG620 Yep. The 3 exact same reasons we haven't been DTD. I stopped Progesterone today, but still, PGAL. And exhausted.
  • Also team no sexy time, mostly because I have no energy. We have had intimate time and showered together, but anything involving a little more cardio than that won't be happening until I get my second tri energy.

  • I was going to last night. I was kind of in the mood and I figured it would help me sleep... But DS didn't want to go to bed and I fell asleep waiting for DH to get him down.
  • I'm also nervous to even attempt anything intimate because I've always had an "irritable uterus" or so my doctor calls it, so every little thing caused BH. I know it's early for that, but it still makes me nervous especially now being PGAL.
