This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Cycle/CD: Finally counted-21 cycles. CD 13

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): Waiting for IVF

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We've been working on getting our pre-appointments scheduled. Next step is picking out a donor sperm.

How are things going? H and I had a good conversation about if we were millionaires, would he want to do IVF then. And he said yes, so I feel like he wants to do it. I finally got it out of him that he doesn't want IVF to stop us from doing other things in our life that we want to accomplish. Like redoing the floors in our house and going on vacation. If we can't do those things, then he just wants to do donor IUI. But I really think we need to do IVF with his sperm and donor back up so that we do not have any regrets. I promised that we would still do those other things in our life, because I also feel they are priority as well. I think we are in a good place today.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We are trying to go whole hog on pre ivf lifestyle changes to mixed results. My Italian husband has a very different idea of what a Mediterranean diet is (namely it is not eat pasta every day).

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WF cysts to go ago so kind of WFAF?

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) On BC to make these cysts go away

How are things going? Pretty ok

GTKY: If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life what would it be? Avocado pizza! For anyone not blessed enough to have eaten this, it is where you take a pita pocket, bake it int he oven for 10 minutes so it gets a bit crept, then take it out and top it with mashed avocado, sprinkle on some chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper, throw on some prosciutto and top it with a fried egg.

@JuneRoseRuby I'm glad that today you are in a good place. That was definitely a creative way to get down to the underlying concern he has around IVF and of course it is a huge financial piece. I'm sorry that I don't remember but will your insurance cover anything for IVF or donor sperm? And girl I'm with you on the macaroni and cheese!!!

@adirat are you on BCP or lupron yet? When are you supposed to start stimming? I can't believe September is almost here!!!

@kiwi2628 when will they do another US to check on the cysts? Will you stay on BC in the meantime until they are smaller/gone? And avocado pizza that sounds ahhmaazinngg!!!!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
DH had a semen analysis today at the new clinic. At our old clinic they said his morph was 28% but they used a different criteria so they want to do their own in their lab to check morph motility and count. They also do a sperm antibody test which my other RE didn't do. I went in today for BW and so did he. Not sure when we will get the results since this is my first time having testing done so I will try to be patient while waiting for results. We are gonna stick with the new clinic from here on in. AF came about 2 weeks ago and I never heard back from my nurse (we left off discussing IVF and I was supposed to call her in 2 days when my period showed up). I know they are busy but how can you go from talking with a client about starting IVF cycle in 2 days to never outreaching back?

Things are good. DH and I are just trying on our own this cycle. It's weird to not be on meds or going in for US and BW it's been a while since it's just been us.

@beachbunnyxo123 I start bcp once AF comes so in the next week or two. I also can't believe how close it is! But other days I'm like "ugh another whole MONTH?!!?!?!"

I'm so glad your new clinic is better and is giving you a more comprehensive workup! I am totally shocked you never got the follow up...but it's probably a sign to abandon them and stick with the new place like you said. I hope you don't have to wait too long dor results.

@beachbunnyxo123 I stop BC on Tuesday and on Friday I have BW and an ultrasound. They expect me to start a 'period' on Thursday or Friday, which is good because *TMI**** my last period most of the blood never shed (ugh) because of the hormones from the cysts so I have like really old blood in me and it is gross to think about. Also congrats on your H and you doing nothing this cycle. I think after this IUI cycle my H and I are gonna do that for 3 cycles before IVF, so I am looking forward to it. It is weird that your RE never called you back.

Nothing special, just trying on our own (cycle 1 of 3).

I'm 9 dpo and have no desire to test whatsoever - I just don't think I can deal with another stark white test. I'm removing cups and HPTs from my bathroom so I'm not even tempted.

@JuneRoseRuby No, we haven't picked our donor but its officially time. There are no more steps and we have to make a decision. I have several favorites so I'm going to ask H to finally sit down and look at them this week and see who he chooses.

@beachbunnyxo123 no ins coverage for IVF. So that was the big decision. We found out it was going to be more than we expected. We have been saving since before we knew we had IF. We saved for a nest egg to have a baby and be really comfortable going out on maternity. We wanted to make sure we had enough money that if MH and I both were not working for whatever reason, we could survive for three months. So that is the money we will now be spending on IVF. Once we knew we were having issues, I started hoarding money. We also haven't taken a vacation in two years or done any large house projects so that is how we saved money.

@kiwi2628 when I had my hysteroscopy last week, it was like a day after I stopped the last bit of spotting from the end of AF and I was curious if I was going to see any gross "leftovers" in my ute, but I did not. There was a hangy bit of tissue they grabbed for the biopsy though, so I am assuming that was a leftover bit.

@adirat I hear ya on the IVF lifestyle frustrations. We have been trying to live a modified version of ISWTE but MH has a bachelor party this weekend, a wedding for that guy in sept, and labor day weekend he is going to a big festival of drinking and concerts, so he has a non-stop binge drinking schedule for the next month which is so annoying. I've basically given it up except for one drink per week.

How are things going? Good! Waiting to hear back as i had BW and US today. Best news is that my lining is the best it has been this whole process! Keeping my fingers crossed that i did O or am in the process of oing so i can get this thing going

Diagnosis (If you've been): waiting for repeat SA at the end of the month, but right now it looks like MFI (2% morph and borderline low motility)

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) just your average cycle. Repeat SA on August 31

How are things going? Fine I guess. Part of me wants to just jump into IVF right away, but I think our insurance covers some IUI, so I'm not sure what to do. We are waiting to meet with an RE until the repeat SA results are back, so probably not until mid to end of September.

Any questions? I just ordered some fertileaid for DH. Has anyone had any significant impact after taking this?

@JuneRoseRuby my DH and I are pretty similar to you and your H. We still want to go on vacations and do our home projects, but we also desperately want kids. It's such a hard pill to swallow when you're dealing with the financial impact of IVF with no insurance coverage. I think if it comes to that for us, we will do it because otherwise we will be killing our selves over the what ifs. TLDR: I get you.

@BertieMeetsGertie I feel like we are in a very similar boat! I have DH on FertilAid, but he just started it on July 16, so we haven't had enough time to see a difference (or another SA). I did tell DH that I want him to get another SA late September/early October to see if there's a difference. He gave me a BAER and sigh, and I let him have it! FX your repeat SA is a lot better!

@juneroseruby I agree with making sure that you guys do things to make sure that you don’t have any regrets later on. We started putting money away a few years ago for the same thing. Basically 3 months of bills/payments put away as well as “fun” money while I was out on leave. That account has continued to grow, which is good I guess, because I feel like we will end up at IVF as well.

@kiwi2628 You just made up my mind what we are having for dinner. I llluuuurrrvvve prosciutto. And avocado. And fried eggs.. Yay for AF finally, as weird as that is to say.

Diagnosis: High prolactin, PCOM and Fragile x

C/CD: Month 21/CD 17

Status: TWW

What are you doing this cycle: Nothing with the RE. We changed the dose of cabergoline, and they want to test it again in 2 or 3months. But other than that we are trying on our own for 3 cycles. It feels so weird to not have appointments or blood draws. My nurse finally emailed me back this morning about the confusion over diet and meds that I was not on. She said sorry without saying sorry, if that makes sense.

How are things going? They're okay. I have been trying to get back in the habit of charting so that I can make sure things are okay. But I'm not doing so well.

Any Questions:

GTKY: I'm a big foodie, so this is a hard question to answer. My current favorite is a homemade yam and black bean burger with a fried egg and avocado-tomatillo salsa, wrapped in rainbow chard. (The tomatillos and chard coming from my garden.)

@JuneRoseRuby @Redpuma119 The process is super weird. It's like online dating but for donor eggs. Depending on the site I see their photos (always current photos, sometimes baby pictures, one site has professional photos taken), most of the sites also include a questionnaire which will have basic info like physical traits, personality questions, family medical history, etc.

I'm focused on 5 different agencies right now based on my clinic's recommendation. They have worked with these agencies before and have good history. Ideally, we can find a donor who is local to New England to make the travel easier. Beyond that, I guess I'm mostly focused on physical traits and I would like the donor to have blue eyes since I have blue eyes and I feel like if the child has blue eyes people will think he/ she got them from me (a little weird, I know). One site I am looking at says that they have particularly high standards and a lot of the donors seem to have a strong academic history but I had to email them for a detailed questionnaire so I'm waiting for those now. I'm not an unusual looking person so it really shouldn't be that hard to find a donor but its still a hard decision.

If anyone is curious (or looking for a Monday afternoon rabbit hole to jump down), you can go to any of the agency sites and create a username/ password to see the donors and their profiles. Some of the agencies I'm looking at are Center for Surrogacy and Egg Donation, The Donor Source, NEEDS, and Northeast Assisted Fertility Group.

@Redpuma119 I just got off the phone with her and ya, totally doesn't work like that lol. I feel like an idiot, but whatever. She said if I start bcps after my AF after retrieval, then have the polypectomy, it will depend how long I need to stay on estrogen, get the lining ready, add 5 days of progesterone... THEN we transfer. I feel like such a newb at pretty much every step of this whole process!!! :s

I have blue eyes too and I feel like I want that as well. I'm a blonde hair, blue eyed, lanky gal, so I feel like I'm a dime a dozen so hopefully I can find someone closer to my looks too!

@adirat girl I'm doing mostly paleo and this Italian girl is right with your husband. I love pasta, but I very rarely eat it and that just hurts. But for real...September is weeks away!!

@BertieMeetsGertie we haven't used that, but our RE very specifically told us that any changes the hubs makes won't affect his sperm for 76 days. Just keep that in mind when looking for improvements!

As of now I don't plan to test before my bloodwork but part of me wants to so if it's negative, I don't get that call at work bc this time it's going to crush me. Well, it usually does but the time and money spent this time around will make it worse.

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): waiting for sperm retrieval/IVF

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) hopefully getting lots of swimmers

How are things going? Last week, DH's surgeon made a surprise call and we are moving the retrieval up to Wednesday. We meet with the surgeon tonight after work to go over all the pre-op information. I'm so nervous and anxious. All the weight of IF feels like it's come crashing down on me after that call and I've had to really ask myself what I/we will want to do if Wednesday's surgery yields nothing. I'm trying to stay positive, but this is terrifying.

Any questions? @BusinessWife DH is going to have to be home alone after I bring him home from the procedure. Any suggestions for items I should have ready for him for his rest time on the couch?

@JuneRoseRuby I completely understand the financial aspect of all of this. DH was very aggressive paying off his law school loans and it is a big reason we started TTC this late, now that same loan money could go to IVF instead of down payment etc etc. It is all very very hard. It sounds like you guys have talked it through and worked it out though, I hope all goes well
@adirat I hope the Mediterranean diet goes easier for DH, it is so much easier to commit to something when both of you are on board. Hope you are staying sane these next couple of weeks

Okay, I have been terrible at keeping up with this thread and I am so sorry. This week my goal is to be on it!

Diagnosis (If you've been): low AMH, mild MFI

Cycle/CD: 14 (I think I have been saying 13, but I actually counted this time)/20

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW (6DPIUI)

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) 5.0 mg of Femara+ovidrel+IUI (3rd IUI) was on Tuesday Aug 1. At last monitoring appointment I had 2 follies on right within a half mm of each other so hopefully they both released

How are things going? Typical TWW. Swinging between complete optimism and complete pessimism. THis one is a little loaded because if it does not work we will be switching to IVF. I have been trying to bite information off in manageable amounts because it is all a bit overwhelming.

@Alohakumu I had lots of popsicles (to eat) in the freezer, as well as cold compresses he could alternate one and put the other back in to chill, but he mostly used the ice. Even tho he said the compress felt much cozier! Lol So just big gallon bags, a couple or 3 prefilled halfway ready to go, so he could stumble up to the freezer and grab a fresh one, dump the melt stuff in the sink and hang the bag up to dry a little. With a thin FST type cloth to put around it. I would say some kind of easy comfort food that he can just throw in the microwave or whatever is great too! I made noodles in bone broth with frozen peas and had that on the stove so he could scoop himself a bowl of soup noodles and lay back down. ❤ he also had nice tv snacks on the coffee table with him like poppycock and pretzels, etc.

Also - give him permission to leave the seat up! It hurt DH to have to bend over and lift the seat up each time to pee, so I gave him a pass for that. He also started cleaning it with iodine (tho the doc recommended peroxide) and covering it with about a 2x3 self-sticking / nonstick gauze pad - I think it was curad brand. So once a couple days had passed, he started doing cleaning, fresh gauze, and I bought him a pack of tighties to wear instead of the support cup thing. Tho he did wear the support up over the tighties for several nights afterwards, too. And is still using an extra pillow between his legs at bedtime.

Oh! Good news! The doctor said it's not infected, either! So that's a relief!

Thank you so much for the great suggestions, @BusinessWife! I'm glad to hear your DH doesn't have an infection after all. I'm sure both of you are quite relieved! I really hope all goes smoothly with your polypectomy.
@BusinessWife and @JuneRoseRuby Assuming all goes well with the retrieval on Wednesday, we are looking at our FET being pushed potentially being pushed out until October, too, depending on the facility schedule.
@JuneRoseRuby I really like the "if I were a millionaire" hypothetical situation, since it can help you to really focus on your priorities and where you'd like to be at the end of the day. We just have to take it day by day, even when we are overwhelmed with all the choices and unknowns.
@adirat My hubby wasn't too excited about all the diet changes we've been doing either. I'll admit that I have cheated with some pasta, but I try to get lots of veggies in there, too.
@beachbunnyxo123 I hope you get the bloodwork results quickly. That is super frustrating that they never got back to you. Yes, I know these clinics get busy, but that's no excuse for letting people fall through the cracks with such an important moment in our lives!

@LeilaK9288 Yes, assuming they find "so many little spermies" (I sure hope they do!!!), they will freeze them until my retrieval later this month. They will know if they find sperm almost immediately, since they examine the specimens as soon as they come out. Since we are doing PGS with DH's condition, as the embryos are much more likely to have chromosomal abnormalities, we will have to wait for the FET until September or October, depending on the availability at the clinic. I hope your test results come back with good news.

@50Wife , not sure if this is possible for you, but I always have them call my H. That way he can get bad news and have chocolate, etc ready when I get home... or conversely he gets to surprise ME with good news, which is a sort of fun twist. My guys would be the type to have balloons and a video and everything, so it would be sorta fun for it to be the opposite of what you see on youtube. Hahah. but also, really. When he gets bad news, he has a move ready to roll, blankies, takeout, chocolate, wine... the whole dealio

@LeilaK9288. It's definitely nerve wracking. DH waiting so. Long. To finally just go get his. (We were also OOP at the time so that was lame.) He claimed not knowing made it easier for him to have hope, but the truth is, it is what it is whether you <i>know</i> it not! So if anything, I think finding out is such a hopeful step bc it means you can come up with a plan. Fx the time passes quickly and maybe you even hear back sooner! ((Hugs))

I'm sorry you're so stressed about everything. I don't even have good advice as I'm always a walking ball of stress and anxiety.
Its easier said than done-but maybe plan a day and do something for yourself. I know it absolutely won't solve any problems, but it's nice to refresh. Something mindless-nails, pedicure, massage, get an adult coloring book! I've been coloring at night and it does somehow shut my mind off for a bit which is so nice. I got one with profanities from Amazon and it's the best!

How are things going? Stressful! Good lordy there's so much to do this month. We have a tentative closing date of August 21 for the house, and then moving the last weekend of the month. I'm also working on a huge goal in my business too and this is the last month to complete it, so..my mind is swimming. Plus, the last 3/4 of my house still needs to be packed! I'm so utterly relieved and glad not to be doing anything baby related this month. My period came this morning, as did a bout of anger, but I honestly don't even have the time to process not being pregnant, there's too much to do. I guess that's a good thing...
*TW pregnancy* My sister's EDD is any day now and she asked me to come and help when the baby's born. I really would love to help her...I just have to see how I'm feeling. Adding that to my plate right now may not be the best idea. *End TW*
