"L" names for boys

I posted earlier about about naming our son after my father in law who recently passed away. Someone mentioned using the same first letter, which would be "L" for Larry. I never even thought of doing that, so simple!

We have so far...

Lawrence
Logan
Landon

what else do you have for us!? We have 8 weeks to figure this out!

  • Was your FILs actual name Larry? Usually that's a nickname for Laurence/Lawrence. My grandfather's name was Ralph Lawrence and he went by Larry.

  • His name was just Larry. I am having a hard time getting behind Lawrence.
  • Don't know if you'd feel differently about any of its variants, but here are some of them:

    Larkin
    Lars
    Laurent
    Laurie
    Laurits
    Loren
    Lorens
    Lorenzo
    Loris

  • Technically, Larry is the nn for Lawrence, but in the mid 20th century it began to be used as a name on its own.  Of your 3 choices, Lawrence is my favorite.  Sometimes little boys named Lawrence go by Laurie. Personally, as a child of the 1970s, I couldn't use Laurie as a boy nn because of the prevalence of Lori as a girl's name during that era.

Logan is nice, not too common, but very 1990s.

Landon is just okay.  Where I live, it's the name of a very snooty all-male prep school, so it's not too common to meet little boys with that name in my town. Without that issue, it's an acceptable name in the same vein as Nolan or Owen.
