We tend to argue about finances when working on a budget so I've been avoiding it lately. We are both open and on the same page, but DH is incredibly technical and goes so overboard with spreadsheets that there is no way in hell we can use it. So just having a simple budget that we can both see turns into this week long ordeal of him creating a 10 tab multi-page excel document that never completely works right, so neither one of us touch it again. This happens every 6 months or so. Great intentions on his part, but budgeting stresses me out. I love reading about it though, like Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman.

I should be more into budgeting but I'm not. I have automatic transfers into my savings, retirement, and DS college accounts every month and then I just eyeball my balance and call it good. Maybe budgeting will be one of my 2018 goals.
I also need to get on the budgeting bandwagon. Well, and get DH more on the bandwagon. We tried Mint for awhile but stopped for some reason. Maybe I'll also look into YNAB. @jessafishy you should be a spokesperson!
@purplestarz I actually keep an eye on their job openings regularly. Most of their jobs are WFH remotely. I just need to get my technical skills in place haha.

I just got out of the shower and ran downstairs to grab my Coke. Guise, my kids are all sitting nicely on the couch, DD1 has the laptop and DD2 is laying across DD1s legs watching Curious George with DS. If only this bliss lasted longer
So, I just want to thank this board for talking about adult budgeting things. Last night I started going through all of our bills, and noticed that both my car insurance and home insurance premiums had significantly jumped in January (auto went up $70/month even though we haven't had any tickets or claims and home insurance went from $1500/year to $2300/year). DH has been calling around this morning, and we are going to switch plans and end up saving around $200/month. I have also cancelled subscriptions to things I forgot about that we were just wasting money on. I feel dirty for letting this money slip through our fingers, but NO MORE!

Hey also, what do stms think of a babymoon at 7 months? 3 hour drive, just hanging out at a resort with a pool all day. Will I be too uncomfortable or is that a good timeframe to do it?
Do it! Where do you live? Is it gonna be super hot? I am in Vegas and it's so hot I can't wait to move so I can float in the pool all day. A 3 hour drive isn't too bad. You will probably need a bathroom break during travel so you can stretch your legs.
@bluejeanbabi05 I'm a FTM but I say do it! 3 hours can't be that bad and it's close enough that if anything happens you can just turn around and come right home!
I am having problems with a paralegal and I'm starting to think it's a power struggle thing on her end. I gave her a good review last year because her husband asked for a divorce last August and I felt bad for her and attributed her slackitude to that. But it's a year later and she's even worse. I'm having to do filings I shouldn't be doing because I'll ask her and she'll say she's too busy. Meanwhile I billed 11 hours yesterday. I'm not good at confrontation so I'll probably just wait until her review to say anything but I feel lousy about that because if it were me I would want the feedback in advance. This prob belongs in the BF thread, sorry. But bleh I hate this ish.
It's totally my pet peeve when people count 4 weeks as a month during pregnancy. EVEN WORSE when they continue to do that after the baby is born and you wonder how their kid is advancing in months so quickly.
Lol @riverrainez I texted her earlier today asking her if 7 months was a good time to go on a babymoon, and she said "yes, I went on one at 8.5 months!"
....you're 8 months today and your trip was 3 weeks ago. Nononono.

Yea this seriously drives me crazy.

@migdala sorry lady. Power struggles at work are not the business. She sounds like she's taking advantage of your kindness and it should stop. I hope your review helps clear the air!
Sorry @bluejeanbabi05. Ill start eating sugar treats 2 by 2, one for me one for you..... Until they diagnose me with gd as well in 10 days. Edited to fix words
@bluejeanbabi05 I dont think its wrong to be afraid or sad. Everyone gets sad initially when something is taken away or is out of their control. But I'm glad we've come so far medically that induction and c section are safe and even routine options for birth.
@bluejeanbabi05 That sucks, I'm sorry. I don't know anything about GD, guess it's time to go Google. Do you have to go on a special diet or something? Do they know why it happened or is it just a random thing?
@bluejeanbabi05 I do 4 finger sticks a day and 1 long-lasting insulin injection every evening. I'm a needle-induced fainter, so the whole idea was very overwhelming to me. Now, the finger sticks aren't my favorite, but they are quick. The insulin doesn't bother me at all. I'll likely be adding a pre-meal quick-acting insulin at least once a day because my numbers aren't staying in range, even though I'm pretty restrictive on my diet. There's speculation with the specialist I see that I was an un-diagnosed borderline diabetic pre-PG and that's why it's not going super smoothly now. It's my understanding that a lot of GD moms can regulate with food and no meds.
Mostly, I eat pretty low carb and make sure I switch simple carbs for more complex ones, like eating 1 thin sliced whole grain toast instead of 2 regular white breads. A lot of the changes recommended for GD I'd already done because I have IBS with diarrhea and generally feel better when I limit the delicious, yet crappy food. The only one that really kills me is no watermelon. It's got way too much sugar, which is such crap, given that it's my go-to summer food.
I had a really shitty nurse tell me when I asked a reasonable question that if I wasn't able to restrain myself from terrible eating, that I'd have a stillborn baby. I vehemently disagree with her methods however once I was done bawling, that conversation spurred me to do my own research on GD and speak with a nurse/doula that I trust. There's a higher chance for c-section and/or induction, but that doesn't mean automatic. My midwife office didn't handle higher risk pregnancies, so I was forced to transfer care to a new OB office that has midwives there. I will be asking about increased ultrasounds for measurements as I progress, as well as about my intention to have as few interventions as possible during labor. My labor buddies other than my boyfriend are his mom (nurse) and my sister (nursing student). We've had long chats about how I'm not great at advocating for myself in the moment and how I need them to help make sure what I want is being respected. If my baby isn't in danger, I won't be doing an automatic -anything-.
Also, I totally freaked out for a couple of days and cried -a lot- because I felt like I'd really failed at pregnancy. I was assured that the freak out is normal. Now, every meal that I'm in the normal range, I take as a win, just to flip the script on my own negative talk. Plus, that end of the week treat I mentioned earlier is my reward for behaving all week.
