Boy Name Help! Very different styles

DH and I are really struggling to agree on a boy name. We both have very different styles and we're trying to find a happy medium. He likes traditional/biblical names and mine are probably considered more trendy (though I don't care for overused). We have literally been over thousands of names and both love the name Cole but it does not go well with our last name (One syllable starting with K). He wants to use it anyways but I just can't get passed it. Oh, and it would be good to note that DS is named Emory.

His list:
Jeremiah (strongly dislike)
Connor (ok- the one I dislike least)
Tyler (meh)
Casey (I think it's too girly)

My list:
Graham
Wesley/Weston
Greyson
Hudson
Carter
Marshall
Nolan
Griffin

Thoughts? I'm open to suggestions but I can pretty much guarantee they have already been shot down by DH.

I don't care for Nicholas at all. One of those names that was ruined for me years ago and it brings back negative emotions.

We we did top 500 and the only overlap was Connor!!! (And the only reason I even selected it was because I knew he liked it). We really are polar opposites here. Maybe I should just try to be more open to Connor and see if it sticks.

I will add that he agreed to Hudson and we settled on it a couple weeks ago but since then I've told him it just doesn't feel right.

Why is is this so hard???

It really seems like you two are on the same page. Both have picked trendier names.......just not the same names. Most are to cutsie for grown up boys and men.....in my opinion.
    Suggesting
    Jared nn Jed
    Odin
Charles nn Casey (LOVE this one) Casey on a boy is so awesome!
    Leo
    Luther nn Lou
    Blaise
    Keller
    Conrad
    Arlo
    Otis
    Osborne nn Ozzy

  • I love Keller but it's my cousins name. The rest aren't really my style (or Hs). Your comments about them being cutsie is interesting to me. I know grown men for each of the names except for Greyson so maybe that's why I didn't see them that way but it's good to see different perspectives.

I love Casey and Connor (although I'd spell it Conor) from your husband's list. From your list I really like Graham, Weston, and Hudson. Love Love Love Hudson. My husband vetoed it. What about Harrison or Gavin? Caleb?
  • What about Grant?
  • I don't feel like you are that far apart. I love
Nolan and Marshall and then Tyler

    maybe some middle ground

    Elliott
    Warren
    Russell
    Donovan
    Micah
    Reid
    Silas
    Adrian
    Calvon
    Lincoln
    Seth
    Garrett
    Bryce
    Ian
    Nathan
    Hunter
    Jonah

  • Greyson is one of those names that is becoming overly trendy. Just to clarify, you mention you aren't partial to overused names; I think that name might get there soon.

As a PP suggested, perhaps you could come up with a formal name but use the NN Cole. Some suggestions:

    Colin
    Colton
    Colby

Alternatively, here are some names that users favourited alongside the name Cole on a popular name site:

    Adrian
    Beckett
    Chase
    Declan
    Dylan
    Emmett
    Hadley
    Jameson
    Miles
    Parker
    Wyatt

    Good luck! :)

  • Thanks y'all! I suggested Lincoln and he really likes it! He's also considering Landon which is surprising to me. We're making progress! I think he's starting to come around after vetoing so many that we had nothing left. (I should add that I brought up my list to him again and said no to all of them).

  • Here's our new "short" list. These are all names that we might not both love but would consider.

    Connor James
    Lincoln Thomas
    Landon Hayes
    Wyatt Austin/Cole/James
    Carter Austin

Any of these stick out? Which would be a good sibling name along with Emory?

  • Out of your updated short list I say Lincoln or Landon. I would scratch Connor and Carter, kinda boring imo. To be honest from your original post Casey takes the cake!! Love it. Underused, adorable!

I like Lincoln Thomas best as I like the nn Link
    Connor James next
    Then Carter Austin
I know a ton of Landon's so it's kinda blah for me
Wyatt just seems very country to me.

  • I like Connor and Carter best... like Wyatt and Landon but I know quite a few... Carson, Cade, Caden, Porter, Holden, Henry, James, Oliver, Jasper, Arlo, Leo, Sawyer, Silas, Miles, Cedar?
  • I would add Seth and Corey to your husband's list, and to your list I would add Warren and Grant.
  • Adding Kyler (since you like keller but can't use it).
  • I like Connor from his list (although this seems like it would have the same alliteration problem as Cole) and Graham from yours (prefer the Graeme spelling.)

    Jasper
    Joel
    Jesse
    Jude
    Gideon
    Gavin
    Duncan
    Malachi
    Married 9-4-04

I agree Casey is an awesome name and 100% boy.....not girly at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just ran all of them by DH and got the big thumbs down. (I think I may have the pickiest spouse of all time).

*throws care out the window* our last name is King which is specifically why Cole won't work. All I think of are Old King Cole and Nat King Cole references. The alliterations dont bother me but I do think the first name needs at least two syllables (i.e.  Connor) if we go that route.

Im pretty sure our new short list above is THE short list. (Only change is we are still keeping Hudson in mind). We did the top 1000 names last night and there were no more matches. So now just need to figure out which one is *right*.

    Edited for words.

  • Would he go for Joel instead of Cole? Similar sound, but it works with your last name!
  • He said it sounded to close to "joking" if said quickly with our last name. *eyeroll*

Caleb, Corey, or Cooper might work
  • Have you checked out behindthename.com?  It has a ridiculous amount of names on the site and many are very uncommon.  It's likely that there are names on there that you two haven't tried out yet.

  • Could you try. Out downloading the babyname app. It's like tinder for names. You both set it up and swipe left or right on names you like or don't like and it notifies you of names you match on
  • I like the choices on your updated list with Landon slightly ahead of some of the others.  I think it sounds best with Emory.

Kind of late to this party, but I like Wyatt Austin out of this list. Especially paired with Emory, I like the symmetry of both names having 5 letters. I saw someone mentioned it sounds country, and maybe so. But I get more of a wild west vibe, which... while it still wears a cowboy hat, feels more "dangerous".

I don't like either of the C names because of your last name, even tho they have two syllables. Landon just seems trendy and I'm tired of hearing / seeing it.

Lincoln is my second choice. After is Connor, Carter, Landon .
