I am 30 years old and I only learned about 2 years ago that tampons are not flushable...I thought they just meant the plastic applicator, which seemed like a no-brainer. So, unbeknownst to me, I was going around causing all kinds of plumbing issues for well over a decade.
Of course, when I found out, I acted like I had totally known all along. I don't think I've told anyone the truth. So there you have it.

ETA: I think I knew you weren't supposed to but wasn't particularly concerned about it. I was probably 27 or 28 when I noticed some stinky water standing in my front yard and called my dad to come check it out (yes, I still called him for things like that). He had the plumber come and pull what he called a 'rat's nest' of tampons out of the pipe. My dad said "I thought I taught you better than that," and I've never been so ashamed.
@kayemjay2 That's great! How could you have known?
My FFFC: I'm doing all of the "natural" methods of induction from here on out, because a) I'm so uncomfortable with this uterine irritability, b) DH and I are both so anxious after the past two weeks of contractions, that now we're ready, we're ready, and c) because I want to meet my baby already!! I feel guilty on one hand, but on the other I know that baby will come when baby is ready, so all of these crunchy granola things I'm doing shouldn't matter in the long run.
Wait, I thought not flushing tampons was just for septic systems and old plumbing. Apparently I'm a reckless vagina owner.
Wtf am I supposed to do? Pads youcan at least wrap up in the wrapper for the next one. I can't imagine just tossing it in the trash or trying to mummify it with tp!
@emilyalso - That article made me feel much better! I felt like this was just a thing that everyone else has known all along, but apparently I'm not alone!

On the subject of tampons, I wore one for the first time ever, last summer at the age of 25. My mom was super against them growing up (toxic shock) so she refused to buy them/teach me etc. I honestly only did it so I could still take DD to the pool. I still wear pads on the regular.
Even though "the experts" or whatever say you shouldn't attach a mirror to the backseat because it can become hazardous during a crash, I'm going to use one anyways. I feel like I'd be much more likely to be in an accident if I'm trying to crane myself around to look in the car seat than if I can just look in my rearview mirror to see the baby.
I only knew about the not flushing because when I hit puberty, I was obsessed with reading the box instructions on feminine products to make sure I was doing everything right and because I was terrified of TSS.
@starphish18 I think the general rule is nothing loose in the car that you wouldn't want to chuck at your kid's head. I used the soft-sided Brica mirror for DD and just bought another for this kid. Sure, it might hurt if it hit them in the head, but I'd be ok with it.. *shrug*
My FFFC: I think personalized license plates are incredibly obnoxious. Yes, that's a UO. But my FFFC is that my husband got one without consulting with me and I'm judging him for it. I also refuse to drive his car now.
I also don't care about the car seat mirror thing. It's cardboard with a film over it, my kid bashes his face on about eleventy billion harder things in a day.
I also got the soft edge Britax one. I agree with y'all, I'd rather be able to see baby and not be worrying than have it fall on their head (and probably do zero harm because it's not like dropping an anvil from a skyscraper.) @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I hate vanity plates, too, but only because I have no idea what I'd get one of if I ever did. I love that you're judging DH for his.
The mirror I got is soft around the edges, too. Plus, it has straps that go in both directions around the headrest. The crash would somehow have to unclip two buckles and loosen a long velcro strap for that thing to be going anywhere. I'm definitely good with it.
I also got a mirror I plan on using. As for license plates I don't mind them. I would get one, not anything crazy just an easy one to remember. I don't want anything too personal on there like names or anything those are a bit ridic.
Edited bc i'm an idiot.
We kept toilet paper in the top of my closet and I act like I can't reach it so I don't have to refill the toilet paper in the house.
I really can't concentrate on work this week. I sort of want the baby to come now (EDD = May 7th) so i can be off the hook and not try to fill my days with random work things (i'm not on a project now so it's just internal stuff like interviewing people and doing trainings and such).
I dont care what people say about my use of a mirror on the car. As a deaf mom it is an absolute must. DD has a soft one that I hate because its no longer well secure (aka flaps around easily) but she likes to be able to see me too so she doesn't mess with it too much. The other mirror is secured to the middle headrest with an adjustable option so I can see him better since he will be behind the driver seat. Not quite as soft but it has two buckles, is very secure and its on a headrest where theres no carseat.
My FFFC is I just sent my mom to my house to pick/send me pics of clothing options for DS to wear to the hospital when this baby comes, because I do not trust MIL to pick something cute and it was on my list for this week.
I totally have a perosnlized plate plate and have since convinced H, my brother, and parents to all have them. Mine is a nickname my grandfather gave me and H's is from Alaways Sunny in Philadelphia.

I'll allow this. I hope it says he's a Fullonrapist.
Oohh man the TTGP FFFC thread. Damn. I knew MH and I were super vanilla but woah I wasn't expecting that.
Related FFFC?: I know I'm more sexually experienced than H and I'm not sure how much he knows that. We never discussed "numbers" but I would guess I'm double if not triple his. he's far from the best I've been with but I love him for so many other reasons and he gets the job done (when I'm not knocked up).

I wrap mine well in toilet paper and toss them in the trash.
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
I also didn't know about not flushing tampons... Oh well!
I have a car mirror for ds that lights up and plays music. It has saved my sanity on dozens of occasions. No one can focus on driving with a screaming child in the back.
Oh my goodness, I had never thought that people didn't know about flushing tampons. I don't know how I learned but I never flushed mine. I just wrapped it in the plastic wraper of my next tampon or pad or whatever and ig necessary then tp too.
I got a kick out of the fffc thread over in ttgp. I cant imagine the face I was making. Were fairly vanilla here but I'm always fascinated by the stories. I imagine there will be an after dark thread at some point over in hogwart once were all more comfortable.
Ooh the flushing tampons one made me think of a FFFC. I dated a guy all through high school who was from Mexico. They didn't trust the septic system in their house - not sure if it was their particular house or a holdover from where they were from - so we all wrapped all of our TP and threw it in the trash. So yeah, a whole trash can full of poopy TP. To be fair, the few times I didn't do it that way, I clogged the toilet.
+1 for thinking everyone knew not to flush tampons! Haven't you seen the signs in public restrooms? haha

+1 to thinking everyone knew not to flush tampons... they're designed to be absorbent and expand, go and put a clean one in a glass of water and see what happens... i also wrap them in TP or the wrapper for the next pad, FFFC I can't use 2 tampons in a row I hate them. In the 13yrs I've been menstruating I've only ever bought 2 packs of tampons...

I think I'm finally caught up! I think I've always known you shouldn't flush tampons and I wrap them in TP and put in the trash. I hate pads and I'm not looking forward to wearing them! Makes me feel like I'm wearing a diaper.
Finally found the thread you all all were talking about (mobile bumping) yeah we're pretty vanilla too lol I didn't get through the entire thread!
Still thinking if a FFSC (now?) of my own...I'll be back when I think of one or remember what I was going to say.
ETA: is this the thread where men and toilet seats were talked about? Lol sorry that's how far behind I feel I am...I think I love tited a lot but never got a chance to reply. Anyway, H sits down too! And we put the seat down before flushing because that ish can spray everywhere! Gross!

Speaking of tampons and pads and such, just wanted to throw this out there. If you don't like pads, have you heard of Thinx underwear? They're basically magic. They're like normal underwear with a waterproof outer layer (so a little more akin to swimwear) and a series of liners that absorb liquid. The only downside I've found is that they're warmer, so not ideal for summer months. They might be a nice postpartum option...haven't tried that yet. If anyone looks them up and is interested in buying one, let me know. I can send you a referral and we'll both get $10. (I swear my activity here wasn't a 9 month long con just to get Thinx credit.)
@starphish18 lol you were sonplaying us this entire time so you could plug your period underwear! I've seen those but wasn't sure how well they work. I did get the samples of the depends someone had mentioned as well. I don't know if I can do underwear pads that make you really hot in the summer...which is like year round in Florida lol
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@BabyMC517 I will say, they really don't feel like pads at all. The liner is so thin, I don't know how it works so well. But yes, definitely not as breathable as cotton or whatever else (since it has to be leakproof).
The idea of Thinx is a little yucky to me. How do you wash them? I just don't know....
speaking of random product plugs, I just had a sponsored ad on my instagram from MomSense. Apparently it's like a nipple shield that connects to your phone and supposedly tells you how much BM your kiddo is getting during a nursing session...? Seems interesting but hard to imagine it's accurate. Has anyone heard of it?
ETA: Its apparently not a nipple shield. It is a sensor that attaches below baby's ear to track swallowing...? Even more skeptical hah
@ShadeofGreen816, that's a cool idea, but I can't imagine that it works. The baby could be swallowing like crazy and still not getting anything out of the breast.
