@MrsVP614 It is quite possible that you saw something other than a penis. Ultrasounds can be harder to read than people think. I would continue to say that you don't know the sex and plan either way, but maybe make sure you have a boy's name picked out, just in case.
@Sugargirl1019@mrsmarygs@sarahufl@bridge-and-wall You're making me feel better ladies! It's silly to be upset over, because we'll be thrilled either way, but we will try to push what we thought we saw out of our heads and continue thinking it's a fun mystery!
Had our AS today at exactly 20 weeks!! Confirmed she's definitely a little girl! Measuring in the 37th percentile which doc said is good & weighs about 11 oz. They had a hard time with getting a good look at a part of her heart because she wouldn't turn over but once they finally got it he said everything looks great! She was so stubborn with putting her hands in front of her face and not turning over but we still got a good shot of her face and we're pretty sure she has DH's nose! just 20 more weeks or so left!
I did some googling last night about low lying anterior placentas and made myself a little paranoid. Has anyone been told any issues with this? My OB didn't bring up anything and just said everything looks great! Do I need to be concerned if no other US is performed?
@jessieR358 don't google about placenta anything, you'll only find worst case scenarios for previa. Since yours is low lying, there is a ridiculously high chance that it will move up and be of zero concern. Most doctors don't worry about it because it resolves quickly in the next few months.

Mine is low: 1.33cm from my cervix instead of the at least 2-3cm they "like" to see. I was 18+3 at my AS. Doctor said that as the uterus stretches it will usually pull the placenta up with it, so it will likely resolve itself. I got back in 3 weeks for another AS (they want a better look at his heart and spine) and they'll check on it then.
Do you know how low, or did you Google yourself into worry (which I have done)? If they are not concerned, I would urge you to try not to be.
The only concerns (and "concerns") I've had is that we're on pelvic rest due to spotting/light bleeding (likely due to the low lying placenta), and if it stays low, I'll be delivering via c section.
@lilpoots@jena333-2 yeah I usually don't google things, but I was like hmmm. My OB doesn't go over anything or give any measurements, which is fine. If it's normal it's normal. I just knew because the US tech told me. I did read they usually grow upwards, so I guess I won't worry! Thanks!

The uterus stretches upwards, usually pulling the placenta with it. If it is low lying, it isn't covering your cervix and covering the cervix is what's dangerous. Hopefully it never becomes a concern.
Had our a/s yesterday. They confirmed it's a boy, and everything looked good except for a little fluid in the kidneys. The doctor assured me that it's very common, especially for boys, and likely not an issue, but they'll do a follow up u/s at 28 wks. Fingers crossed it's clear by then!
I had my ultrasound on Friday, I was 18+2. Baby did not cooperate. It would only move its arms and kicks its feet. I have to go back in 2 weeks. The tech gave us a guess at what she thought the baby was and she only got one shot at the parts and it's looking from head down, not from bottom up like most. She told us she was 95% sure Girl but she likes to get 98-99% and this shot could go either way. I'm happy I get to my baby again but I feel like I still don't know what I'm having.

LO was waving when the u/s machine turned on and was so cute (S)he was totally cooperative..we were in and out in less than 30 minutes! I told DH I sort of with LO had been LESS cooperative so that we could have more time with him/her, but I was half kidding, and thankful to know everything is going well. Official due date is Sept 21 (in this country they don't say official due dates until the a/s), up from the 24th that the 8 week scan suggested.
We have the sex reveal in a box (whatever outfit the doctor placed on top...girl or boy...is what we're having!) ready to group skype our parents and some siblings who are around this weekend. It's so hard not to open the box.
The doc kept saying, "you have a good looking little person in there" and "wow, your little one is so cooperative!" so I reached down to pat my belly and say, "good job, LO" and smacked my hand RIGHT into the u/s gel. whoops.

Had our AS this morning. LO didn't want to face up so the technologist tried her best to give us a profile shot. Baby is looking good from what we could tell. He/she waved at us when we finally got to see. So cute!
DH thinks he saw "something" suggesting a boy but I'm not really letting that sway me one way or the other. Happily still team green over here!
We had our AS this past Friday. Everything looked good, baby is still a girl. The only thing they couldn't see well was her spine, due to her positioning. She's currently folded completely in half, with both her hands and feet at her head. So they want to repeat that part of the scan at our 24 week appt. I'm not complaining about an extra opportunity to see my girl, but I am slightly nervous. We have prior US pics that clearly show her spine, and they never had any concerns before. And they said they didn't have any indication anything was wrong now, they just literally couldn't get a good look at it, so they didn't feel comfortable checking it off the list.
She's also (still) breech. I know there's tons of time for her to flip, but she's been breech every time and it's starting to make me nervous. My daughter was head down from day one and never moved. My midwife gave me some old wives tales we could try to get her to flip, but said we won't worry about it until the 32-36 week mark. I'm anxious to try some things, but at the same time, I don't want her to flip too early -- because then she has lots of time to flip back! lol.
If anyone else was skeptical about that early Sneak Peek gender test, I'm happy to be your test case! We had our anatomy scan today at 18w4d, fully expecting to confirm that the wee one is a boy...only to find out she's definitely a girl. No boy parts in sight! I kept telling my family and friends that the boy results were much less accurate, due to possible contamination, but assumed it was probably right. After all, I'd thoroughly disinfected every surface, washed my hands with a fury, and have a medical background. Surely, *I* didn't contaminate the test.
Never have I been so happy to be proven wrong. Hopefully we'll get our money back from the testing company, as they advertise, but I'm just excited that our little girl looks healthy and hearty so far. She was squirming like crazy, but the ultrasound tech even commented that she has "such a pretty heart." Yeah, I might be swooning with joy over here...
@baileylove22@MyNamesTaken@Dmurphy10@DPandMB@MamaForester@dogdisnylovr@bridge-and-wall
went for a follow up yesterday. they said there was a possible echogenic focus (calcium build up) on the heart, which is a marker for down syndrome. doc said that with asians, it's very common for it to show up when it just goes away on it's own. so in my case, it's like a soft-non-marker. so she made sure to look at all the other markers, which were all normal. she also took a closer more clear look at the heart and said, "from this view, i wouldn't even consider an echogenic focus. so i'll chalk last week's view as an isolated incident." so all is fine
Had our anatomy scan yesterday at 19+2 and it's a boy!! We already have a little girl and would have been super excited either way but now we get to have one of each which is cool! Everything seemed to be good but we have to wait for the Doctor to call and confirm since the ultrasound tech couldn't officially tell us anything. They couldn't get a clear shot of his face so we get to have another ultrasound next month! YAY for getting to see him again!
We had the anatomy scan this morning, and we're having a boy! DH and I are very excited, and I'm so happy to be having another boy. We've got plenty of pictures, and will tell the grandparents tonight and tomorrow.
Everything else looked great. The tech said my placenta is laying a bit low, at 2.7cm from the cervix, but their cutoff for being concerned about it is 2cm, and it will more than likely continue to move up as my uterus does its expansion thing.
ETA- @jlf1019 Seriously, don't worry about positioning yet. With DS1, I was eventually able to tell the difference in third tri between where his head and butt were, and he spent a lot of time going to breech, then head down, then back again. This is not something the doctors are concerned about until your last month or so. Also, check out the website spinningbabies.com. My midwives, and other moms on my old BMB, recommended the site for various natural ways to help the baby switch position.

Yay for your girl!!
Can you explain the bolded part to me? Why would incompletely disinfected be more prone to contaminate the results, but you wouldn't? Is it just that any stray Y genes will scream BOY result, even if they're statistically insignificant?
I know with the Panorama test I did, a male result was even more likely to be correct than a female result due to pulling the fetal DNA directly from the mother's blood (eg any Y chromosomes must be fetal).
i think she was being a tad bit sarcastic about how could she have had a contaminated surface? and it looks like she may have done an at home kit not one at the doctors. so if her husband's dna was on anything it could have messed it up.
No I get that it was an at home kit. Rereading, I can see she means SHE couldn't have contributed any Y contamination (which would explain the sarcasm, haha).
I'm curious about how the lab quantifies their results (which could be in their pamphlet/website?), and how exacting and significant the percentage of Y chromosomes needs to be for them to say a male result. Of course, I assume they're just doing rapid PCR.
ETA: I was thinking more blanket contamination (eg bacteria, mold, dirt) not specifically Y chromosome contamination. Annnnd I officially see the world through my job.

Aaaaaand yep. Exactly. I feel as though your thought process is very similar to how a few weeks back everyone was talking about their financial plans and strategies...I'm a financial advisor and I was twitching by what I was reading. Lol
Anatomy scan this morning! I'll post pictures on ultrasounds when I'm on a real computer. But it went great. He's a little wiggle worm and smashed his face into my uterus when they went to take 3D pictures of his face. Lol. He has my husband's nose. He put this hands up over his face to start too. Silly boy!
@jlf1019 My LO was breech when they started the scan and flipped over during it so he was head down. And then back to breech and back to head down! The tech said they move all over the place at this point and not to worry.
So, our a/s this morning turned into quite the adventure, and we basically ended up getting two anatomy scans. Baby looks great, and is definitely all boy! However, I have a marginal cord, and a shortened cervix. I actually got admitted to the hospital this morning because they originally thought they'd have to do a cerclage, but after they got a better look at my cervix, they realized it wasn't as short as they originally thought (I'm measuring 2.7 cm, and they want to see 3 cm or longer.), and I'm not having any contractions or funneling (which, from what I understand, would indicate I was ready to dilate). I'm now on progesterone suppositories, restricted activity, and pelvic rest, but my doctor is very optimistic that it won't get worse, and could actually lengthen with the help of the suppositories. I've been a little emotional this afternoon, but I'm very thankful I don't need surgery as of right now, and that my doctor was very optimistic. I do have a perinatologist now, who will be keeping an eye on my chord, and I'll be going in to get my cervix checked every two weeks. But at least for today, things look positive!
Had my a/s this morning! Confirmed the panorama test that we have a little girl in there, and she has 10 fingers and 10 toes. :-) I'm assuming everything was good-- the tech told us what we were looking at but not how it looked, if that makes sense, and no mention of measurements, cervix length etc (except I asked how big the baby is and she estimated 11 oz based on head/stomach/femur size). She did confirm the placenta was anterior, but no one told me that in the first place-- I saw it on a written result and asked her about it today. Meh, I keep reminding myself that my OB said the high-risk doctors come in right away if anything is abnormal, so no news is good news...
The tech did have to spend some time trying to get baby to flip over for better shots of her heart-- I had to go pee, lie on my side, drink OJ, lie on a super-tilted table with my head below my feet, and the tech shook my stomach a lot (I was shocked by how much the baby moved when she pushed on me). Finally got what she needed so at least I don't have to go back.
also, anyone else think about how cramped baby looks in there??? I know they supposedly like being balled up in a cozy spot, but man, I'm sorry there's not a little more room to stretch, baby!
@zetega I had to do a bunch of stuff to get baby to flip over to get shots of his spine. He seemed so annoyed when he did finally flip over, I felt so bad! And yes, it's amazing that they already seem so scrunched, and they're only half way done!
Also, I can absolutely confirm that the high-risk doctors swoop in quickly. From the time I was told I needed to go to the hospital for a closer look at my cervix to the time I was already admitted and talking to the perinatologists' nurse was less than an hour. They do not mess around when they think there's an issue, so I'm sure you're fine!
Just had my A/S today and I think we are going to have our hands full with this baby. According to the tech, she hasn't scanned one the active in a very long time...and she's been doing it for 27 years. About 15 minutes in she had to start over entirely because baby decided to flip completely. He started out breech and facing my spine, in one move he went head down and facing my stomach. I don't think he slowed down the whole time either; his arms and legs were all over the place! He's also not on team scrunched up...I have a long torso and he is apparently perfectly happy to stretch out in there. My tech was super nice and sent me home with a bunch of great pictures. She also said that I am measuring just one day ahead so they will leave my due date as is.
I just got a call back from the nurse. Everything looked good but they couldn't get a good view of the heart so they're referring me to get another ultrasound next week. It's with the high risk doctor in town - like all pregnant women who might be high risk also see him in addition to their regular OB and he doesn't see anyone who isn't. So that freaked me out but my nurse said it's nothing to worry about that he just has the best equipment in town and is skilled at ultrasounds so they do referrals there for all sorts of things This has not stopped me from freaking the heck out of course. But, it gives me another chance to see LO and that's a plus. My FIL had a genetic caused hole in his heart when he was born that wasn't treated at all until he was 60 so it was something that they wanted to make sure they got a good look at. Anyone have experience with a follow up A/S?
@wineren with DS I had to go back for a follow up A/S because they could not get good pictures of her heart. Basically the second one they focused on getting the pictures that needed on the heart and then there was extra time so we had fun with the 3D ultrasound. I hope at the next one they get all the pictures the need for you.
@wineren I had a follow up ( level 2 ultrasound I think that's what it's called ) with DD because they heard an irregular heartbeat with the Doppler. Everything turned out just fine. It seems common that if they don't get the pictures they need a follow up will be done. Though everything looked great on my LOs ultrasound I will also have an in depth ultrasound again at around 32 weeks due to my DS's history. Everything will be totally fine but I know it's hard not to worry.
@wineren my ob refers all of her patients to a mfm for high def ultrasounds. Your doctors equipment may not be that great or they may want someone more skilled at getting an image from a baby who isn't cooperating. I hope your scan goes well and that the everything look great.
Our a/s is Tuesday and I thought I've been holding it together pretty well despite the occasional intrusive "what ifs"... however every. single. night. this week I have been having crazy preggo dreams/nightmares about this damn ultrasound! In one they told me there was no baby in there and so I ran to the store crying and pulled my pants down and started taking pregnancy tests aisle and last night they told me baby had "Cinderella syndrome" which obviously is not remotely real but I was absolutely devastated in dream land. Needless to say I can't wait to Tuesday to just come already... I only wish I was able to have a drink in the meantime to chill the eff out!
