Re: FFFC

  • @SKZW I am truly honored!!   :D

@ShadeofGreen816 a mom friend told me if you don't have any caffeine while they're being cooked, then they're not used to it when you're nursing and you're f*cked because you need coffee and they'll get jittery! So, I also had regular caffeine coffee in the morning, but adhered to one cup a day.

  • FFFC: MH sleeps in the guest room most nights (we did this a lot even before being KU, since he's a light sleeper and a horrible snorer and I also snore a bit myself...). I give him trouble for it, because I generally prefer to sleep next to my husband. I've kept it up, but I would be so annoyed if he actually wanted to sleep with me right now. I literally take up 70% of our king sized bed with all my pillows and everything.
I couldn't tell you the last time we shared our bed, unless I really stopped to think it through. H is a huge insomniac and sleeps maybe 2 hours a night, so he never comes into our room. Non-pregnant me hates it. Pregnant me embraces every moment of whipping my preggo pillow around the bed without having to worry about disturbing anyone else!!

I don't think that's necessarily true.  I think caffeine crosses the placenta different than it enters breast milk. I think LO actually gets more exposure while pregnant than breast feeding.  Can anyone science us on this?

  • I had no caffeine while pregnant the last 2 times and definitely drank it while breastfeeding with no negative effects.
I may or may not have limited myself to 200mg a day this time.... I didn't miss a day of coke and coffee and I feel no shame anymore. I wouldn't have made it through the day.

@cato99. I've had caffeine my entire pregnancy too.

I made sugar cookies for DS's Easter Party at school and I couldn't resist a small bite of the raw cookie dough.  I'm making a trip to Target to get the safe cookie dough mentioned in Randoms.

You won't regret it. I just bought some and ate a big spoonful. It was AMAZING.

Hm I don't know about this. I had my daily cup my entire first pregnancy but once DD was born, I had to control how much and when I could drink it when nursing. If I had any at all before nursing, DD would be more likely to be fussy/gassy. With that said, I had to wait until after the first morning session, drink some of my coffee (refrigerated), nurse again a couple hours later then drink some more. She was okay that way.

With this, though, are you sure it was the caffeine? Seems like the acidity of the coffee could have a similar effect. I have no experience with this, just spit-balling. Like @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot said, I'd love some science on this. @mdlorenz maybe!?

  • +1 for basically not monitoring caffeine intake. I do not drink coffee, but do still have a couple cans of coke a day. And on occasion sub in a Mt Dew. I gave it up the first few months last pregnancy and limited the rest of the time. None of that happened this time. I'm just trying to make it through with a toddler.

  • I know I have talked about my newfound love of Kickee Pants on here before. While I have managed to curb my spending (it helped that DH put me on restriction), I am still OBSESSED with my b/s/t groups on FB. I am currently watching 3 purges and plan to set my alarm for 3 a.m. for the Spring 3 release. My name is emilyalso and I have a problem.

  • FFFC, I don't want to breastfeed. It didn't work out with DD and I have absolutely no desire to BF this LO. I feel shitty just typing it, but I just don't want to.
If it makes you feel better you're not alone, I'm happy to try again and see if I feel differently this time, plus I would like LO to at least get the colostrum, but beyond that I have absolutely no desire to breast feed, I don't care if it works out and quite frankly would probably be happier if it didn't because then other people can help.

  • @PartiallyDomesticated @bacorrea @RedInLove @MrsFreeman2010 Thank you AL for the support...I'm glad to know I'm not alone in feeling that way, I've been afraid to say it to anyone other than DH and my mom because everyone is constantly preaching about how awesome BFing is and I just don't think it's for me. When DD was in the hospital I had nothing and as much as I wanted to, I couldn't feed her and when I asked for a bottle, the nurse practically scolded me for it to the point where DH and my mom basically told her to F off and go get the baby a bottle so she can eat. I could've tried again when my milk came in, but at that point I was too upset to and now the whole idea of it doesn't seem right for me. It feels selfish, but I just don't think I'm the right kind of person for it.

im trapped in a box, but don't feel shitty. It's not like there aren't other feeding options, and all this stuff about guilting moms who don't nurse pisses me off. Do what works for you and your family!

  • @OmegaRose3 don't worry! I go back and forth with it. FTM so I want to try but not putting any pressure on myself. I think I mentioned it before that I really don't think I will like it and that's ok. Baby can get formula! No big deal! He's just gotta eat something!

  • @OmegaRose3 don't let anyone make you feel bad!  The nurses at the hospital were the same way with my son when he needed formula- I actually had to sign a waiver or something that I would allow them to give him formula!  I felt like such a failure it was terrible. This time around I'm open to whatever happens- but I won't let the nurses boss me around or make me feel bad about anything!

  • I cut out the daily caffeine, but will occasionally have fully caffeinated Starbucks awesomeness. I feel like having more than the recommended 200mg every now and then isn't the end of the world if it only happens every now and then.

  • @OmegaRose3 you are definitely not alone in your feelings and you shouldn't let anyone make you feel guilty. I've been dreading breastfeeding again ever since I got my BFP. I'm just not someone that enjoys it and feel more anxious than anything else. I decided that I'm going to try again this time, but if it doesn't work out, formula will work just fine. I'm not going to put the pressure on myself that I did the first time through.

FFSC: I frequently have the feeling that I want the baby to stay right where he is because I don't want to share him with anyone but my husband. I'm already dreading all of the family wanting to visit and hold him constantly. It doesn't help that they like to ask how "my" baby is doing -- as in, their baby.

Our families are just really overbearing, but I feel bad thinking that. I lived far away for 8 years and moved home a year ago, so it's an adjustment... I'm happy with one visit a month and they'd prefer multiple times a week. We're at about an every other week schedule at the moment, but I know it's going to be a constant fight when the baby comes for me to preserve my space.

  • @kns1988 I hear ya! I was just talking to my mom about this this morning. She's a bit more understanding and I was talking about my bio dad and step mom coming the week after my EDD then my MIL coming at the end of June. It's spaced out but still feels like a lot. How are you supposed to get used to a new baby and deal with company?
