B*tch Fest/WTF?!? 4.10 - 4.16

Re: B*tch Fest/WTF?!? 4.10 - 4.16

  • I HATED writing thank you notes as a kid. It was painful to write them after my bridal shower. Thankfully H wrote half of the thank yous after our wedding. I convinced myself to write thank yous and get them in the mail a day after my baby shower. It sucked but I did it! I tried to think of something funny to say in each card to make it not so awful to write.

My bitchfest is about the wind and spring in general. It was really windy today and the front screen door on my house flew open so hard that the chain broke off and the hydraulic mechanism bent so badly the door wouldn't close. Somehow the frame by the handle got bent also. Basically I hate spring because it's windy every day.

@ChristinaWild I cannot agree more. I do grocery shopping, errands and appointments to include vet visits but if i were to ask him to do something on his day off he would lose it.
I needed to go fish out my sons short sleeves last night. I had used the 3 I had in rotation and its going to be over 80 today. When I got home at 630 pm my h and I played outside with ds for a while then made dinner. As soon as we were done with dinner I went into the living room gave him a snack of yogurt since he eats like a bird at dinner. My husband never came in after dinner from the kitchen. He popped his head in with a piece of toast and I said hey are you almost done in there I need to go find his short sleeves. He goes in an indignant voice "I'M EATING!" just close the gates and go upstairs ds will be fine. I say you just finished dinner (which he said yeah that was just a sandwich...) and all i wanted to know is if I should wait or if you'll be in soon too watch him. Somehow family obligations are not allowed to mess with his eating.... and somehow my asking him if he'd be done soon was "mean" and why if finding these shirts were so important I waited until he was busy eating to drop the need to go up there. I should have said it/ done it earlier. I'm sorry when the f did I have time? We were having fun family time outside then dinner! I have a solid hour and a half before bed time to do all this. Then hes like I don't know why your still down here just go! So I went upstairs looked in the few places I would have put the handme down short sleeves we would have gotten and came back to get him for bed. this then pissed him off because "he had just sat down with "his" son and I was taking him away from him"...... he also said if it was going to be that short of time I should have brought him up there with me. Yes I want to go through his drawers with him there so I can have him pull stuff out for fun and make a big mess. So the conclusion despite telling him it was just a coincidence is i'm the most unknowingly mean person in the world. A Hole you know 8 is bed time. My son gets up at 540 every morning. We are not keeping him up just for you to spend time with him and if i remember correctly he wasn't important enough to stop stuffing your face with toast earlier but now I am cruelly ripping him from you at the end of the day. Mind you this was already 830 pm. Other than this argument he accused me of having an attitude on the phone when I was driving to get ds after work and kept telling me how annoying talking to me was when I was trying to talk to him about my phone call to the carpet company on that same ride. Honestly I just couldn't win last night.

@Yiggle09: What a pain in the ass, seriously. Hopefully this evening will be less stressful.
  • @Yiggle09 I hope you have a better night tonight! I would have lost it.

I am with all those that hate thank you notes and its maybe a OU, but I have made DH do a portion of his side of thank yous for all events we have had (wedding shower, wedding, baby shower). I do not feel like all the pomp and circumstance is just for me to be thankful for.

My b!tchfest is that I am fairly certain my mom ended up with a virus on her computer today, so I get to go try to figure that out this evening. I wanted to just pick up the computer and bring it home to figure out, but my dad wants to see it so now I get to argue with him about what I think we should do. Hoping it is actually not as bad as it might be.

  • We are struggling so much with getting DS (2.5yo) to keep his glasses on. If we keep him distracted he will
keep them on but we have to bribe him with a lollipop to put them on and if we're just hanging at home he rips them off after a few minutes. I really wanted to work on potty training with him too but I feel like working on the glasses is the first priority and doing both at once would be too much.

Feeling everyone on the thank you notes. I wrote the ones to my friends and family and DH said he would write the ones to his family...3 days ago and it hasn't happened. Grrrr and he says I'm always nagging him.

Ok so my brother is getting married. My mom, sister and I went in together and bought my brother and SIL the rest of their dishes on their Macy's registry for my SIL bridal shower.
The dishes arrived today in two giant Macy's boxes and they aren't in individual boxes. Like they are in a shipping box wrapped in bubble wrap. 15 dishes, bowls, serving plates, cups, etc. WTF. It's super annoying. I'm probably just going to wrap the Macy shipping boxes to take to the bridal shower.
That sucks! Place settings should have been kept in their smaller packages.

Personally, I'd probably wrap one set and tell them the rest is at whoever's house or even just out in your car, unwrapped but packaged up conveniently to carry or move. It beats having to lug that big box into your vehicle and then into the venue and all without wripping the wrapping.

  • @bacorrea we did something similar when my friend got married and just wrapped one set with a note in a decorative box from Michaels. It was a lot easier than having to wrap the giant shipping box and we didn't have to worry about it being broken/transported.

This is genius. I second this brilliant plan so you don't have to carry big boxes.

Not sure if this would be helpful or not. But, my mom said that when I would throw my glasses off, she'd take them away for a little while. I guess she only had to do that a few times before I stopped, because I didn't like not being able to see as well. But, being that they're so new to your son, I'm not sure if it'd have the same impact.

How long has he had them? DD got her first pair at 11 months and it wasn't until about 6 months ago that it finally clicked. At first we allowed her to pull them off and give her a rest before putting them on again. As she got older (she'll be 3yo next month) we started taking away whatever she was playing with if she pulled them off after we returned them on her. We just kept putting them back on her. Slowly, she stopped pulling them off as much and now she does so maybe once a day, and then when she's being changed into pajamas we let her take them off. I also worked on making her ask to take them off first, which has helped because when I say no and she still takes them off, she knows I'm putting them right back on her head. I had to be so consistent with it to get to this point, which some days I just didn't have the fight in me to keep up.

It's frustrating, especially because we know with DD she doesn't have a significant vision deficit to see enough of a difference to prefer the glasses on, but rather she has an eye turn that is being corrected.

  • I have a non-pregnancy bitch.....

I'm a member of my local Junior League, this is my 5th active year. You are allowed to go "senior active" which means you don't have as many responsibilities after 5 years...then sustainer after 6. well even though new members can't start until September ( I was September 2012) they are claiming if you weren't active by May (in this case May 2012)  then you don't qualify for change of membership status. So technically they are making you be active 6 "league" years prior to changing.... I'm mad because the league itself has moved to things I don't really feel strongly about and I don't feel they are really doing anything for our "local" community anymore, not to mention they are no longer very "work friendly" as most things are moving to week days. So now I'm faced with staying "active" another year or resigning from the league all together....

  • @sweaterboots We may have the same mother. ;) My mom has Hashimoto's, too. While she doesn't go the natural route, she goes the not-listening-to-doctors-fully route. She's terrible at taking care of herself. For several years she fluctuated really bad, then she got AFib from it. Controlling the AFib scared her enough, I think that she listens better. She had to have radioactive iodine to kill off her thyroid. I think not being a good patient and neglecting to take her condition seriously resulted in a lot of other health issues. I hope your mom doesn't go the way my mom did and learn the hard way to listen to medical advice, but in the end I had to tell myself she's going to do what she's going to do because we're on opposite ends of the country. All you can do is smile and nod, and know how to take care of yourself. I know it's frustrating being pregnant (and for the first time), you want her advice and attention on you, not vice versa. But that's what you have us for? :) Sorry you're going through that with your mom, I'm sure the thyroid storm was terrifying for both of you.

Finished our last 2.5 hour birthing class last night. The chairs are so uncomfortable and because of how upright they are I sit with my legs more open to accommodate my belly but because of that, my SPD has flared up. It really hurt last night and now today I can hardly walk. Have to go to the same place tonight for a 2 hour infant cpr class that I'm debating on bringing my own chair for.

  • @RedInLove He just got them a week ago today so it's still early for us to expect him to wear them all the time. He fusses a lot getting his hair combed and has a melt down when we have to cut his hair/nails or even clean his ears so I have to remind myself that he's a sensitive kid to begin with when it comes to stuff on his face and body. His glasses are for farsightedness and he really needs them- he's +5 in each eye and it is also to correct an eye turn that hopefully wont become permanent and require surgery. I think you're right- just being persistent when he takes them off- we've been bribing him with lollipops quite a bit too.

Ugh the chairs at our class are so uncomfortable too! The nurse said we could use one of the 2 nicer desk chairs if needed or the birthing balls if they help. I used the ball last time, it was a bit short of the table, but I think they needed air and told her that! Hopefully she'll have them filled for tomorrow's class :) Not this Sunday, but the next we have a breastfeeding class and then the infant cpr...I'm almost regretting making them back to back! I believe there is a bit of a break in between, but still! Hope you feel better!!

  • @BeachMommy2B  I was in JL too and left after last year.  I didn't have the same active issue, but I found the league to be way too clicky.  The same 10-15 women did everything and controlled everything.  If you weren't giving 40+ hours a week to the league, no one really knew who you are.  I also couldn't handle the number of Stepford Wives or the amount of time I spent attending membership meetings rather than actually volunteering or working on charitable projects.

  • @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot ugh....the clickyness....in this small town if you want to be included in anything you have to play the game so very similar. It's getting to the point where the only things i'm able to "voluenteer" for are fundraising events... which OK i get are important, but I didn't sign up for the league just to go to gala's and volunteer at them. I want to help the at risk youth in our community (which is suppose to be our mission) but they are doing less and less with that...

  • @BeachMommy2B Our local league has thousands of members.  (side note: Sandra Day O'Connor was once president, which is sorta cool). And we had the same issues. So many galas.  I was also annoyed that they changed the focus a few years ago to "A healthier Arizona" or something like that.  Anyway, they mostly focus on food and exercise in a way that only JL can.  I was on a committee responsible for teaching kids in a low income food desert how to make healthier food choices.  The women on my committee wanted to introduce the kids to starfruit and specialty olive oils.  I was like, "Uhhh... they are shopping for groceries at convenience stores.  We need to focus on the things they can buy there that are healthier than potato chips."

@Hansolosparka And we all know how well reasoning with a toddler works, right? It will take time, but hopefully he'll notice the difference and start to accept them.

If he pulls them off a lot, like DD did at first, I got tired of losing them in stores so I tethered them to the back of her shirt with a pacifier lanyard. Just loop the one end around the strap (if they have a strap, DD does on her Miraflex brand glasses) and clip to the shirt.

ETA there's a FB group called Little Four Eyes. It's a great place for advice, support, commisseration, and AWing our L4E cuties!

  • @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot good to know its not just mine. we have moved our focus to human trafficking. Which is a HUGE deal especially in florida with the Ports. However, they feel that having symposiums and educational brunches, and a backpack stuffing once a year for the league is getting the job done... ummm.... yea no.. of course education is huge and important. But the entire focus of the league shouldn't be shifted there, its completely forgetting about all the community needs that can actually be addressed by local housewife's. Whereas human trafficking is still very dangerous and needs to be handled by the proper law enforcement.

Sorry to hijack the Bitchfest post with JL woes!

  • I'm just full of bitches this week.

MH finally got his notice about his license being suspended for his DUI. 4/20-5/19. My EDD is 5/24 and I have had two doctors tell me that I am not going to make it that far. I'm stressing a bit about what to do if I go into labor as far as getting to the hospital. Luckily we have family close by, but if it happens while all of them are working, then none of them are close. I don't know if I should hope to go into labor in the MOTN or at work.
  • @jayandaplus Man I don't even know if my Mom knows that killing the thyroid off is a very real possibility.  I don't know whether to try to scare her straight with your mom's story or if that would be awfully cruel with her current anxiety and already feeling not great...She seriously sounds like Donald Trump when she's talking about her new internet finds. "Many people say these supplements are the cure!" and "Big-time doctors have done studies!".  She seriously just believes anything she reads that plays into what she wants to hear.  It didn't help that she caved and went to the ER when she had her storm and was treated terribly there.  Now she's even less trusting.  She's 67 and set in her ways, I just don't know if she'll ever hear me! I'm sorry to hear about your momma too.

@nda_roxybabe it hecking sucks.  I basically just have it all the time now at night.  I started taking 30 mins before bed, no dice.  Changed it to an hour before bed, still got it.  1.5 hours seems to be the magic time for me but sometimes it's so hard to remember because I get tired so suddenly it's like, well, guess it's bedtime now at 9:30!  I've heard there could be relief when he drops, and my bump is definitely looking "further away" when I look down at it so I keep waiting... I hope you get relief soon, too!
