Hey ladies- so the MD I saw said he's pretty sure I broke my 4th metatarsal, but refused to do X-rays because I am pregnant. He gave me a 'hard soled shoe' which is a joke and was more concerned about baby Nora than my foot. While I appreciate the concern and him doing a bedside ultrasound, I told him I knew she was fine (I didn't hit my stomach or anywhere close). He told me to wear the shoe for the next 3-4 weeks and if anything changes to come back. I'm considering going back tomorrow in the hopes I get a more thorough foot exam and X-rays because every time I put any weight on my foot I want to vomit from the pain...I didn't sleep well last night due to the pain anytime the covers even touched my foot. Anyway, thanks for y'all's good thoughts....DH is a rock star and totally picking up the slack
@jutondreau that sucks. I hate when doctors are like that and don't listen. If he diagnosed it as a fracture, you may be able to get in to see an Ortho early in the week.

You and me both! Getting into ortho is impossible here--we have only one on the base and the wait is a few months. Since we head back to the States next week, I will work on a referral at that time. I'm thankful to have full insurance coverage without copays, but a lot of times we are treated like second class citizens with our medical care as military dependents.
@jutondreau A fractured metatarsal shouldn't be that painful. It sounds more like torn ligaments or a much worse break with the excessive pain you are having. I would definitely be getting a second opinion and an X-ray. I hope it heals up quickly for you!

I was going to say the same thing. I broke a metatarsal a few years ago, and while it didn't feel good, it wasn't nearly as bad as what you are describing. I really only got it xrayed because it looked really bad. Of course, every injury is different, but I'm worried there is more wrong. Either way, I hope it starts feeling better!
@jutondreau If you have lead on you should be fine to get an X-ray. If it is a broken toe, I don't think they do much for it anyways. But I'm sorry your having so much pain. I had a scaphoid fracture (I fell hard slipping on water from DH's dog that I'm always trying to give away lol) while I was in the 2 week wait with DS and they just put a full lead vest on me and took the X-rays.

My mom used to say that too. She had my older two sisters while my dad was in the Air Force, and they lived on base. She said she felt like a herd of cattle they way they "ushered" them through their regular OB appointments

I thought we could probably all relate to this.
