@BellaO21 are you planning on nursing? If so, I would almost wait on the rest of the bottles until you're sure that the baby will take that kind. My youngest was super finicky (actually, he still is, about everything), and wouldn't take the bottles we had from my oldest. I think I tried 4 different kinds with different nipple shapes before we had success. I imagine if you're going straight to bottles, it might be easier to get them to eat from whatever, but I'm not sure. Then again, maybe it's just my child who's difficult.

  • @BellaO21 I second what @mrt said. My first took whatever bottle we have her and switched between breast and bottle no problem. My second, nope. We spent a small fortune on bottles trying to get her to take one. She would rather starve then take a bottle. Luckily I'm a sahm do it was a pain but doable. Just saying you never know what type of bottle baby will like.

Did anyone post about what paperwork is needed after baby comes? I know my state disability, and I thought something with health insurance,  but I'm not sure what exactly.
My hospital will gave me the form I needed to send in to insurance, but I would also recommend calling them to have ins add baby to your policy asap. It makes newborn check ups much easier.

They should also give you the forms you need to get a social security card, and a birth certificate. For disability, I'd check with HR, or your specific policy before baby comes, just to be sure.

My hospital provided all of the necessary paperwork for birth certificate and SSN. We just had to fill it out and mail it.
Like PP said, give insurance a call to let them know you are adding a baby. With my insurance this doesn't need to be done immediately though; we have a 30-day grace period. It's nice to just get it done so it has time to go through and get an insurance card, however.
  • Someone told me or I read while pregnant with dd that you should pick bottles that have nipples that look like yours if you plan on feeding both ways. Very awkward shopping experience and dd never had to take a bottle so I'm not sure if it worked or not, but I thought I'd throw that out there. Lol

Hahahaha never heard that one...pretty sure Dr. Brown's looks NOTHING like my nipples (thank goodness). DS was perfectly happy either way!
  • @Kylieslip24 I've never seen bottle nipples that look like breast nipples.... I'm super curious now lol
  • I actually washed and sorted baby clothes this week! And put them away.  Also burp clothes and blankets.  That's really the first baby prep I've done.  Next will be the pump/bottles and swing/rock n play padding.
  • @ladylolly89 and @doodleoodle I know right?? I wish I could remember where I heard that because it was hilarious. Probably the weirdest advice I got while pregnant with her. And the bottle shopping was hilarious. Am I more of an avent girl? Or dr brown??? Lol
  • Should I wash the swing and bouncer inserts/padding if I got them new?

  • @alm52386 I always wash that kind of stuff just because factories seem like they would be dirty. But it could be overkill.

I would probably wash them too!
  • @mrt & @awoodruff27 I plan on exclusively BF for the 1st couple weeks to get my supply up, but then pumping so that DH can help out with those late night feedings  :)
My nephew was super picky on his bottles too but we thought that was more due to him being tongue-tied.
I'll take y'alls advice and hold off on any other bottles! Hopefully she likes what I have and makes it easier on us! Lol

  • Those of you at the washing things stage, are you washing them in your regular detergents, or in the baby friendly detergents (fragrance free, etc)?

@CurlyMommy416 I started packing too! Bought travel toiletries and an extra inhaler to leave in the bag. Have I mentioned this yet? Anyone who uses an inhaler at all, even if just for working out, BRING YOUR OWN INHALER to the hospital! I was having trouble breathing after my first (not enough for it to be an emergency, but enough for me to be coughing pretty constantly, which was awful with fresh stitches). It took 2-3 hours for them to get an inhaler for me from the hospital pharmacy.
  • Ive washed the sheets, boppy covers, some outfits, ktan... we just use all free and clear. Same detergent for the whole family.
Ive also moved the car seat straps back to the lowest setting and got that ready, got a pack of diapers, and just sanitized pump and bottle stuff just in case. Ive started throwing things in a box for breastfeeding as I think of it. In the early days it was easier to just have a few things I could take room to room .
Im feeling pretty ready. Ill make a delivery bag in a few weeks. Im planning on going home from the birth center right away so I dont have much to pack. If something happens Ill send my mom to get more stuff.
  • We washed everything in our family detergeny (liquid purex). I figured unless baby showed an allergy I was going to spend the extra money. (DS was fine.)

I have everything I need for a hospital bag around, so I haven't worried about it. Last time, I only needed some basic things, so I wonder how ahead of time I will actually pack. The hospital provided almost everything.

  • I wash everything in our regular detergent. I make my own and DS never had a problem with it. If I need to make a change for this baby, I will.
  • We use Kirkland brand free & clear or something like that so I've just been washing her stuff with that. I did read somewhere that you shouldn't use fabric softner or dryer sheets with baby stuff? I guess my dryer sheets aren't free & clear. Didn't even think about it!

re: hospital bag - I started packing mine when I unpacked my gym bag! Because let's be honest, I'm not going to the gym between now and delivery haha. So I had an extra of all my toiletries. I even labled each little bag so DH can find what I need easily when I'm yelling for it. I also put in my nursing nightgowns, robe, flip flops and a towel. I don't really have much left to put in there besides an outfit for me to wear home. I will pack the diaper bag when I get it! Hopefully at our shower the first weekend in May. If I had my diaper bag I would have packed it weeks ago. I love to pack super early and over pack.

  • I use tide free and clear for everything already so I just washed baby stuff in that.
  • @CurlyMommy416, airheads are totally a necessity!  ;)

I'm still not ready for it to be that real, plus I still need to buy a new robe and slippers.
  • I use All Free and Clear for all of our laundry. I made the switch when I was pregnant with DD and it's actually cheaper than the detergent we were buying previously. MIL keeps clothes for DD at her house and uses regular detergent and the scent now bothers me after using a scentless detergent for so long.

I am so not ready for the reality of packing a hospital bag. I know it should be packed by this point, but I'm dreading it. Once it is packed I'm planning on just keeping it in my car. I kept it at home last time, but was told at an OB visit to go directly to the hospital so I couldn't stop at home to pick it up. I have a scheduled section this time but they scheduled it for only a few days before my due date so I'm pretty certain I'm going to go into labor on my own.
  • So some of you have bags packed already?  I need the stuff I would pack.  Did you buy extras?  Or do you just have some stuff in there and a list for everything else?

Last time I kept stuff like things for baby, clothing, bras and some snacks for me, and important paperwork in my bag. I had a detailed list for the rest that I kept in an easy to find place so my mom or DH could have gathered it all if I ended up going straight to L&D from an appointment.

I'm going to pack soon (due last week of June). I plan on buying new toothbrushes and travel sized shampoos and stuff like that. Cheap dollar flip flops for the shower. I did that last time and there's something about a fresh toothbrush that is just wonderful when your feeling gross and sweaty. I did have a list of last second things to grab though- wallet, phone, charger...
  • the list for husband is a great idea.  He's good with a list.  Dumb question- what paperwork do you need?
  • I still need to buy a few more things for my hospital bag.  I know exactly what I'll pack and I've laid out the baby portion.  My goal is bgy 36 weeks.  Maybe cutting it close? But I doubt it.  I'll also have stuff like makeup and phone charger that I'll add last minute.

Its interesting some people like to rely on the hospital/ live in the hospital gown and some people like the comforts of home.  I fall more into the comforts of home camp.  I like my own clothes, underwear and pads as soon as I can get up and shower.  It makes me feel more human and comfortable.  I like the hospital gown and stuff up until after labor and delivery though.

I do use the hospital diapers, wipes, lanolin, nose sucker (for the baby).

We brought our change of benefits form for insurance purposes.  I wanted to get everything updated ASAP.  Otherwise my hospital allows you to pre-register (forms) so I didn't have to worry about doing anything once I got there.

Sorry - I was in a hurry and should have specified! I had a copy of my preregistration just in case, as well as copies of our birth certificates. I also did a birth plan last time. I really had no idea what I'd need. This time I won't bother with those.
I did have a preauthorization form from insurance for DS and will probably get/bring that again. Also a copy of my insurance card just in case.
  • Has anyone else received a pre-bill from their hospital? I got one for a little over $600 with the date of service my due date because we have already hit our deductible. I never saw that with DS. Why would we pay before? I feel like a lot can change like natural vs. CS or epi or no epi. Just found it weird.
  • @mombod what is in your breastfeeding box? FTM here and I'm clueless as to what will be helpful/necessary to have nearby while breastfeeding.

My hospital does this. I believe they just reimburse if you overpay. For us, it is completely optional whether you pay ahead of time or not (we don't).

I didn't get this from the hospital, but I did get a paper from my OB. It is optional because they aren't technically allowed to bill you for a service that they haven't yet provided. Like PP said they will reimburse you if you overpay, but from my experience it can be like pulling teeth to get your money back. It's just simpler to pay afterwards.
  • @kyreno11 I have coconut oil(used for nipple cream), burp cloth, muslin swaddle (doubles as a cover if someone shows up, I have the covers for the ice packs that go on your boobs (early days you can get engorged and ice helps). I will add a few thjngs to keep toddler occupied or yourself like a book or ipad and when the time comes I will add easy to eat one handed snacks and water.
  • @awoodruff27 I'm definitely the same! I feel like maybe I'll start a bag at 35 weeks? Totally in denial.
