When 9 months becomes 9 weeks

I feel like the stress, anxiety, and excitement of our time getting shorter deserves its own thread right about now. You can post here about new realizations, what you still have to do before baby comes, and what you are accomplishing.

Re: When 9 months becomes 9 weeks

  • I have less time between now and my due date than my anticipated maternity leave (ahhh.... counting down the workdays until baby cuddles!)

I think I'm avoiding some things because my brain can't handle the length of my to-do list. The nursery is painted, but we're still working on painting the crib and I don't have much of anything yet. Maybe after my shower next weekend I'll have some things to set up.

Speaking of my shower next weekend. ... I have nothing to wear. I especially have no bra. I wear sports bras everywhere now except when I squeezed into my pre-pregnancy strapless bra for my sister's shower about a month ago. I guess I'll try that on with a pre-pregnancy dress this week and see how bad it is.

I need to figure out how to get a pump (Target and another online system didn't work with my insurance and when I called my insurance they said any pump was covered but I didn't really trust the lady).

Also, I am a FTM and am kind of avoiding all things breastfeeding due to feeling overwhelmed. I don't have any nursing clothes or nursing bras and didn't sign up for a nursing class. I want to breastfeed, but it is such a huge area to address.

I'm just very stressed but kind of procrastinating (which is not my nature)!
Sorry if this seems like venting/ranting. I'm not the only one, am I?

  • Awe!!! Crazy we are getting so close! I'm 31 weeks tomorrow which seems unreal.  I feel like it's still forever away but will also be here before I know it.  I'm getting super excited for labor and delivery (I know I'm weird).

I really need to dig out clothes and blankets and wash them and sterilize my pump and bottles.  I also have a bunch of little baby and post partum things I need to start buying now we are getting close.

My aunt is coming for a couple days next week while my DH travels so I'm hoping she will help me organize or manage the kids so I can get more done.

Im also getting more and more uncomfortable and large.  This baby is so so low I have so much pressure.  I had a ton of BH all weekend and if one of my kids woke up in the middle of the night I could not go back to sleep forever.  It sucked!
  • Seriously with this post title!

Its our 3rd round, so we are admittedly a lot more slack than the first two. However, knowing twins usually come earlier and we are hoping to have at least 7 weeks left, we haven't done anything to prepare aside from major purchases. We have no place for clothes or supplies, no hospital bags, no diapers etc. So probably going to start on that one now that it could be just over a month that they could be born and coming home immediately. Plus I'm huge and slow, so I should get this done while I still can  :'(

    Frick.

(Should add that we don't do nurseries, we bed share for 2 years so we just need a dresser or something cleared for their clothes and supplies for the first while).
  • Now that the weeks are in single digits I'm starting to get anxious. I have so much on my to do list and honestly no energy to mark things off.

My husband SHOULD be home from overseas for the birth but nothing is ever guaranteed with the military. Especially if this baby decides to come early.

My DD and DS are giving me a run for my money lately. Not quite sure if it's because I'm back to first trimester tiredness or bc they are both under 4.

The only way I'm going to get everything done is if I start giving myself deadlines. So no @kyreno11 you are not alone!!
  • Today we had our birth class, tomorrow is a BF class and next Sunday is the hospital tour. We have all of the big stuff and should have most everything we need after our next shower on May 7. Once that shower is done I should have everything pretty much ready and put away where it goes. We don't have a nursery (1 bedroom apartment) but her little areas are all set up and I even have the car seat base in my car! Soon to be 2 in my car since I'm nannying for twins starting tomorrow until the end of May and they have the same car seat as us. I feel pretty on track with being prepared but I also don't work full time so I've had a lot of time to do things. Plus we have a small space and are renting so we don't have a nursery to set up or paint or anything.
After the birth class DH is super excited about experiencing her birth! It didn't make me nervous or excited or anything. I feel more prepared for the labor and birth I guess.

  • I know! I keep thinking of things to do, but then I tell myself I want to wait until it's closer. Without a shower yet, we don't have much to clean or assemble yet.

  • @kyreno11 If you call your insurance again, they should be able to tell you what medical supply companies are in network for you you get your pump through. I used Byram, and they were great. They carry more brands of pumps than the target program, so they gave me more choices, and the aeroflow rep have me some bs about having to wait until I was at 38 weeks. If Byram is in network for you, I highly recommend them. They got the prescription from my doctor and mailed the pump right to my door. It literally took one phone call.

As far as other supplies go, you don't need a lot to start out. I'd buy a couple cheap stretchy nursing bras (or tanks if you are small enough for them) for the first couple weeks while your supply levels out and shop for real nursing bras after that. I don't think you need nursing-specific clothing really. Things that can be pulled down or unbutton are nice if you have anything comfortable like that you can throw if your hospital bag, but you can also just pull any shirt up to nurse. You'll have a better idea of what you want in clothing as you go, rather than shooting in the dark now, and you can easily order what you want online during middle of the night feedings! Oh, I'd also buy some lanolin and start using it as soon as you start breastfeeding, and a boppy pillow is nice to have but not essential.
  • Are nursing bras and tops a necessity? I was looking at store today, but just ended up with two dresses, a top, and underwear.

  • I need to make the curtains for the nursery, and I need to figure out what I am going to do about a dresser. We had been planning on replacing our old hand-me-down dressers with the ones that match the rest of our bedroom furniture, giving dd one of ours, and putting hers in the nursery, but today i found out that our bedroom set has been discontinued. So that sucks, and I guess I will be buying a random dresser for dd. I also need to refinish a little table and chairs set I have that I want to put out for dd to play at when I am nursing.  Then a bunch of other stupid organizational things around the house: getting the freezer organized, trading dd's clothes out of her dresser for her next size up, etc. I also just realized that I need to register at the hospital and schedule a tour of the maternity floor. We're not doing any classes this time because dd was born just 18 months ago and it feels pretty fresh, but we do want to re-read a couple birthing books, and we haven't gotten around to that either.
  • I am in awe to be sitting here just a few weeks away from meeting my baby. On one hand I can't wait for her to be here, but on the other I feel completely unprepared to be a mom. I imagine there isn't really a way to truly be ready (speaking more emotionally) and ultimately you just have to take it day by day. I just feel really scared half the time, and excited the other half. As far as being outwardly prepared we've had the nursery ready for awhile and deep cleaned the house this weekend. We took a whole truck full of things to the thrift store and now just have to do some minor maintenance. It feels good to not have to slowly open a closet because you aren't sure what will tumble out.

For me, yes to the nursing bras and tanks, but not the tops. It was easy enough to figure out tops that are easy to nurse in. I liked stretchy clothes, or button ups.
    Which bras?

  • @CurlyMommy416  I do NOT envy you moving so close to the due date. We moved in December and I still feel like we are unpacking and organizing.

I don't feel as stressed about getting 'prepared' this time around since this is our 2nd. With DS we had everything set up and ready to go so early.  At this point, I have her clothes and cloth diapers ready. We need a new crib mattress and I need new accessories for my breast pump.  I have everything saved on my Amazon registry, so I figure if baby comes earlier I will just quickly 'prime' it.  I think I was so organized last time because I just didn't know what to expect and being organized helped calm my nerves. This time I worry that I will be packing my hospital bag between contractions.  She has clothes, diapers, a bed, and my boobies, so I feel okay.

  • @jennas312 nursing bras were definitely helpful. They unsnap for easy access. I didn't buy many tops and I had a pumping bra... Holds the pump so your hands are free.
  • We have our nursery ready. We still need the car seat, pump and bottles. Waiting to buy bottles so I know what will be compatible with our pump. I am not anxious yet but excited to be getting closer. We have our birth class in 2 weeks that will probably increase my anxiety and excitement.
  •  Um my niece needs to vacate her crib and move to a bed so I can have my other crib mattress back.  SIL also has my Beco carrier and my car seat adaptor for the stroller, my swaddle sleep sacks.  I am done with everything I can do other than hire someone to deep clean my house prior to the baby coming.

  • We moved my son out of the now nursery, but it became a storage room of all the crap that was in the second closet in my daughters room.  We need to get that taken care of.  I did pick out a few boy outfits and a few girl outfits from my kids baby clothes to take to the hospital.  I am going to order a going home outfit hopefully this week.  Poor third baby haha I keep thinking I have all the time in the world left.

  • I'm not due till the end of June, but this thread is giving me anxiety. We didn't do classes the first time and everything went fine, so we're winging it again. Dd is signed up for a sib class next month though. We have all of our gear ready to go. We're waiting until closer to install the car seat. We also don't have a nursery due to space, but today we moved our bedroom furniture around and set up his bassinet. Tomorrow I'm going to hobby lobby to get him some decorations for his little corner. He still needs a few more newborn clothes too. We started our freezer meal stash today and I've got a nice long list of chores for dh to get the house ready for guests. Also needing to get my postpartum and hospital supplies ready.
Seems like so much I'm tired just thinking about it.
  • I'm a FTM due mid-June and start the round of baby classes this coming weekend. We have signed up for the birth of your baby, caring for baby, breastfeeding basics, and infant cpr. Hopefully they are all worthwhile!
  • We still need to make big purchases, but are waiting until we get our registry completion discount. Which will be available to us on 4/04  :o

I also want to pick up some more nursing pajamas and tops. I went cheap with DD and only bought nursing bras and I feel like breastfeeding is hard enough, I need all of the help I can get. I'm also going to buy reusable nursing pads so that my nipples can still breathe somewhat. The disposable pads have a plastic backing.

Oh and we just decided to start from scratch on the naming process so, that's fun.

I went through all of DD's old baby clothes and organized them, washed what I will be reusing, and put them in cute little baskets to keep in my room since DD2 will be staying in my room for awhile after she arrives.
  • This is baby #3 so I was feeling pretty good. We have a car seat, cloth diapers and some clothes. Don't really "need" anything else those first couple weeks. But then BOTH my babysitters I got lined up for my older two got jobs. Luckily the one I like better "only" works from 5-11 m-f. So I only need to find someone to cover those hours. DH missing the birth isn't an option for us. I just thought I had this taken care of. I'm just really hoping I'll go into labor on a Saturday or Sunday.

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • Yep! I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow, but most likely my csection will be the week before my due date. Luckily I got through the major things early on. Just finished up all of the baby laundry and put it away, I didn't realize how much clothes I had saved from my son. my husband has the most work to do, so I just try to remind him to get focused.

I find that I'm slacking on small stuff, like mailing in my hospital registration, so that I can get my pump, and getting my hospital bag together. Other than that I feel kind of ready, which is actually scary.

  • Ugh this post gives me anxiety. So far we have only sanded the furniture we will be using in her room. We need to paint, buy a crib and then get all the little things we need.

Anita nursing bras were recommend to me by my last bump group, as well as a cousin. They have worked well for me. Unfortunately, I wear an unusual size so I could never find any in a store that actually fit, so I get therm off Amazon.

I'm due the end of June so I haven't reached single digit weeks yet.  My shower is in two and a half weeks and hopefully we get most of what we need.  We had our maternity tour and birthing class is on the 25th.   I spent Saturday and Sunday cleaning out my closet so DH can move his stuff in.  Then the closet in the extra room can be strickly baby's.  But we still have to move all of DH's music stuff out of the extra room.  There are a million things we have to do and I have zero motivation to do it.  I'm so glad to see I'm not alone in the anxiety of it all.
  • Poor second baby! I feel as though I have hardly done anything specifically for him. Granted, we have nearly everything we need, especially since DS was born less than a year ago. We are pretty set for clothes; I just need to wash everything up and organize the NB/summer clothing in the closet for both boys.
I need to readjust DS' infant seat down to the smallest setting (I will probably get that done today), set up the cradle for LO, set DS' toddler bed up (he won't go into it yet, but I want it in his room soon so that he can start to get used to it). I need to prep some freezer meals and pre-portion grilling meats and various marinades in the freezer for easy summer dinners. I'm waiting on our tax return to just buy a ton of meat in bulk.
I think that I am going to purchase a few more muslin blankets, as we preferred just plain blankets for swaddling over anything with velcro or zippers, and DS is still sleeping with those.
I am trying to wait for sales on our double and umbrella strollers and Lillebaby carriers.
We also need to get a big box of NB diapers (we usually use cloth, but disposable is just SO easy in those first few weeks) and stock up on wipes.
I never had a good setup of nursing bras/tanks with DS, so I am going to get at least a few more of each of those.
AND I need to send in my hospital pre-registration and drop off my insurance info at the breastfeeding boutique.
10 weeks (or less) and counting! Gah!
  • I'm still 11 weeks away. I have nothing done. I'm nesting bad though. I'm still doing my Lent commitment so at least my house will be decluttered/cleaned and I can start getting the baby gear out again. We leave for Cali on a week vacation, this Friday, and then it's go time with the house and baby gear take over, when we get back.
  • We've got the major stuff done.  Nursery is nearly complete (waiting on the dresser), and all the clothes and cloth diapers are washed and ready to go.  I don't have a lot of clothes, so that part was easy.  Washing 45 freaking cloth diapers was a PITA.  Especially since we won't use them for the first few months, but I wanted to be prepared.

We don't have any formula and the bottles aren't washed/sterilized or anything.  We're waiting for the baby to arrive to see what the hospital feeds and if that's tolerated.   Plus, I'm still nervous things will fall through with EM, so I'm trying not to go overboard with things for THIS specific baby.  The nursery is gender neutral, and we've bought a few girl clothes, but every time I step in a store to buy stuff I have such anxiety that I leave with nothing.

  • We actually just picked up the last major baby purchase this weekend. Now we just need to buy the little things, diaper bag, towels/wash cloths, and this thread reminded me I need nursing bras/tanks and a new robe. That's it though. I'm pretty stoked.

I also need to get DD3 potty-trained and in her own bed in the next 8 weeks. :#

(disclaimer: we don't do a nursery either, because we bedshare/co-sleep for a few years. So all we needed to do was make major purchases.)

@jenna312, Target has some decent nursing bras and tanks. Tops definitely aren't a necessity in my book.

I actually feel a lot better after this weekend, as we got the nursery pretty much finished. Just a few decor touches left. I still have 2 showers left, but I went ahead and bought our car seat this weekend, since that's one thing we HAVE to have, and BRU had 20% off one item. We also took infant CPR class last night (which actually really freaked out DH!) but still have birthing and baby basics classes.
  • My to-do list is shrinking steadily.  I'm waiting for slightly warmer weather to give the cars a good cleaning and install the car seat(s).  Actually need to kick DH into gear for that since he will be doing some of the cleaning and installing.  Going to make some more freezer meals this week and finish buying registry items when the discount becomes available in a couple weeks.  It's getting real!

  • I am feeling pretty good about everything I've accomplished so far but it still doesn't really help with the anxiety. This is #2 for us. My daughter will be 18 months, so I have been more worried about how she will do, and also having all the feelings about our time together solo is limited. I am so excited to meet the new baby though and I can't believe it's almost time. My section is scheduled for may 30th so I am a little over 7 weeks away. SO CRAZY> Still left to do, install car seat, set up nursing stations around house, create a breastfeeding basket for toddler to have toys to play with while I nurse, set up maid, pack bags, put together baby's stuff and wash a few things.

About 10 weeks left for us. I am getting so excited to meet her, and I'm sure the time will fly by. The nursery is 99% ready as of this weekend. We have most big items but still need some basics, which we plan to purchase at the end of the month with our completion discount. I feel like I have so many bottle and breast feeding supplies on our list and that is my biggest stressor since I have no clue what will work for us. Our prepared childbirth class at the hospital is on Sunday and then a couple weeks later we have a baby care basics class. Next weekend we are heading to FL to visit my parents for a long weekend and it is so crazy to me that this will be our last beach vacation pre baby.  Overall, I feel like I'm as ready as I'll ever be!
