I know the average BF baby gets super chunky in the first three months and then begins to plateau, eventually thinning out if that helps.
DH decided he would try to dictate a nap for LO today despite my telling him his "cry it out" method would ultimately fail. Sure enough, he screamed for 45 minutes. When I went to go get him DH scolded me about not waiting long enough until I pointed out what he thought had only been 15 minutes had actually been 45. Ugh.
Opposite here. DH was home all day with her and frustrated because she only napped 3 times for a total of 3 hours between 6 am and 5 pm. I rinks him that sounds normal. When I got home he was putting her down for a nap. She was calm so I took over by just putting her in the crib and walked away. She was crying and I was going to give it 10 minutes. He freaked out and said it's been forever, it had only been 3. She fell asleep at 6 minutes and slept for 30. He doesn't like letting her cry for even 5 minutes and feels he has to be with her all day and can't let her have independent play so he can go do something quick. I tell him letting her cry it out for 10 minutes is not the same as abandonment.
@m6agua While I do put him down in spite of those feelings, your DH sounds like me. Although my LO rejects napping entirely lately unless it's in my arms with his hand in my shirt.
The annual conference for an industry group is in La Jolla, CA this year. I didn't go last year because I was pregnant and had just been to Hawaii and didn't want to miss more work (would have loved to go because it was in Seattle and I've never been but it was like a week after I'd just been off for 2 weeks). Oh how I wish I could go this year but there is no way I can since H can't even watch LO for 10 min. Sigh.
I get where you're coming from @kvruns, only for me it isn't whether DH would watch them so much as if I was able to leave them longer enough.
As LO gets older, hopefully your DH gets a better handle on him. I know for a lot of dads the six month mark is when they start getting a little more excited.

STUCK
I'm not sure if I could actually leave him that long anyway so I doubt I'd do it but right now dreaming of beach and sunshine! H's dad and step mom are in southern CA but even then I'd not want to just try to dump off the baby to them for a few days although it would be nice.
I'm really having to resist the urge to go buy baby clothes. I have no idea why i want to get stuff, he has a ton and barely fits into his 0-3 stuff, most is still too big, so I have tons of clothes still waiting to be worn. Not to mention some of the cuter stuff like sweaters or whatever that I'm fairly certain he'll never wear because there are no occasions for it
Today is is one of those days where I recognize there are two distinct lives I've led - pre baby and post baby. Oh, the delightfully bad decisions I've made on this holiday.
Instead I'm pretty sure with a week left before returning to work, we have hit the sleep regression HARD.

omg yes! I was thinking how this would be the perfect weekend - St Patrick's Day on a Friday and it is March Madness - those used to be the best weekends. And instead I will be home with a snotty baby hoping he sleeps ok.
Welcome to motherhood @kvruns. I like to think of it this way: an overtired fussy baby who has just been nursed is a lot like you're drunk college roommate.

Yeah so I thought my feet wouldn't be bigger after pregnancy...WRONG! My right foot is bigger so now my shoes are uncomfortable. I am not buying new shoes. Off to find DIY ways to stretch shoes.
I had the exact same thought today as we were strolling through the mall this afternoon, @kvruns. "Wow, I'd normally be somewhere in Broad Ripple this time on St Paddy's day (office is off the strip) but instead I just spent 90 minutes in Baby Gap.
Haha, my husband and we're just talking about St Patrick's Day being on a Friday and how we would be hitting up the bars tonight, but we have two kids now and there's no way that would happen now.
B just fell asleep in the swing. I didn't even notice at first. Thanks day care for teaching him this I guess? Though I hope he still goes down for a real nap later. Might have to move the swing back to the living room - my H moved it to the baby room since it wasn't being used

In NJ it's not legal to let them sleep anywhere but the crib. Maybe he's just super tired from his big new experience at daycare?

Yea he just passed out in it. I think at Day care he has cat naps in the bouncer and rock n play (o don't think they have a swing).
In NJ if the kid fell asleep in a rock n play they would wake the baby up or transfer to a crib right away?

Transfer to the crib.
That stinks only because I know B would most likely wake up the second they put him in the crib so there goes the nap. I mean I get it, safety rules and all but sheesh
I remember asking why they didn't just leave DD in the swing and that's when they told me it's against the law. We're at a different daycare this time and they don't even have swings.
I think it's due to positional asphyxiation. There has been several instances around the states where babies die because their head tips a little forward and actually cuts off air flow and they stop breathing. This happens a lot in car seats. Even in Canada a lot of day cares will not allow infants to remain in their car seats if they are asleep for that reason. As a parent we can assess the risk and make the decision. As a caregiver you are responsible for that child. If you're distracted with another kid etc and something happens a parent could easily argue it wouldn't be the decision they would make and there caregiver would be liable for the death of an infant. I'm not sure if it's an actual law (meaning it would be a crime and if caught would be charged) or if it's against policy/child care regulations or guidelines in order to keep a day care licensed and registered. Either way it's to save their butts if anything happens.
S isn't in daycare right now so I'm. It sure how it all works. But I thought daycare helped put LOs on a sleep schedule and helped them learn to fall asleep. Is this not the case??

ok sorry. So I had hoped that and even provided our schedule and they said they would try but I don't think they have. I do think for older kids they do more of a schedule but for us infants are a free for all it seems. Probably since a lot of babies aren't on schedules at this point anyway and there's no way to maintain all of those schedules with babies this young

Awww man, I was considering sending S to daycare just so they would put her on a schedule. Now I know to save my money.
With our first it got her on a two a day nap schedule... eventually. The first few days she refused to nap and then slowly succumbed to one and finally a second. They also guided her off the two naps when it was time. In my experience, they get to know your child and how s/he functions at daycare and then begins to set a schedule. We actually started following their schedule once it was set.
Wr start daycare Monday with thsi LO. I guess time will tell.
In other news, LO has been screeching like the seagull from The Little Mermaid as his version of conversation for the last hour. It's a little hysterical and a little ridiculous.
ETA: And he just screamed himself into sleep... I don't if I'm worried or relieved.
@Ladybug2821 I'm sure there are some that are better at it than others. Near me I think a coworker said her new daycare was supposedly working on it (her old one didn't) but it is one of the most expensive ones around here
DD has starting soothing herself by grabbing onto things repeatedly. She'll grab onto her clothes, my clothes, a nearby blanket, currently a stuffed hippo that's in my lap, and she just grabs and grabs like she's kneading dough and eventually falls asleep.
@SandNStarsNJ Do you have to pay your daycare when you're out of school? The three centers we looked at only give you one week of "vacation" - so, we'd have to pay for the 11 other weeks that DH has off of school, even if we don't take her in. That is so much money!
(We've got care covered until he's on summer break, luckily.)
Please H tell me how tired you are. You stayed up until midnight watching basketball it is your fault. I was up all night with a sick baby and barely slept but I'm not complaining. Nor can I take a nap anyway but you can so If you want one go take it stop talking and being grumpy
@hoosiermama - We have to pay all 12 months; there's no vacation days at all, but it's cheaper than the previous one we attended where we could pull LO without consequence.
@mrsmoose5 - Our first would do the same thing and now rubs/pets anything soft to calm down or fall asleep. It beats the alternative of crying!
@kristah2 have you had your dog groomed recently? It sounds like an anal gland abscess. My dog that we had to put to sleep in February, had one anal gland that was smaller than the other and if we didn't get her groomed every 4 weeks (on the dot), the left side abscessed every time. A quick trip to the vet and they expressed it, sewed it up and gave her an antibiotic. This must have happened 4 times over the course of her life.
@RhodaMorgenstern so sorry to hear you lost her in February. That sounds possible! He was groomed about a week and a half ago. He then had some blood when he pooped and lost control of bowel movements for a couple days. Now it's obviously bad. He has previously had trouble with his anal glands (one ruptured once so now we need to make sure they get drained whenever he is groomed). Hopefully it's a nice "easy" fix like that!
Thanks guys, I still miss her an incredible amount. She was the first dog that was truly mine. My husband thinks she waited for A to ease my pain. Keep us updated @kristah2, hope your pup is feeling a bit better.
Anyone's else's LO scratch the crap out of their face? No matter how often I cut S's nails she still manages to tear her face up. Mostly from rubbing her eyes when she's sleepy. She opened herself up real good yesterday and I'm hoping BM helps it heal quickly. I'm also wondering if the rash on her face is super itchy but she only does this when she's sleepy/sleeping so I don't think so.
@ladybug2821 YES!!! LO scratches a lot more lately, at first I thought she was itchy (scratching her belly where there is a rash and head that is dry with cradle cap). But now I think it is just a new skill. when I hold her she has her hand on the top of mine/my arm and scratches the hell out of it. I clipped her nails and filed them and they are still sharp. Yesterday my arm looked like my cat got me. I also had her sitting on a chair and she was scratching the arm of the chair. I think the head thing is when they are tired. I've notices she scratches at her head and pulls her hair when she is tired.
